Who ever had the idea to stencil rankings onto the front of helmets should be shot on principle.

x.Shino.x Nuclearwinter angelfire5x Xenos Mortium All I have to say is this: Julius Caesar was a very cold and calculating general, caring little for the death toll or who was to die so long as his objectives were met. In battle he would be the kind of person to make calculations of how many people he would need to kill however many of another. Alexander the Great on the other hand led first hand and with great passion. Each and every death was a tragedy, and making those into a statistic was an affront. It wasn't about the numbers to him, it was more of... the sport of it. I would prefer to lead my men as Alexander the Great did. I wouldn't want to view my men as expendable tools to meet an end. Call me a romantic, but I'd prefer my miniatures to be more as my comrades then as mere units that may be used and sacrificed to complete objectives. I'd have to lead from the front, i hate losing any men in 40k, from the lowliest gaurdsmen, to the elite stormies. Funnily enough, i don't feel as bad about losing my commanders..... then don't ever become an army commander, at least not a high ranking one. You'll get shot real fast. But I can see you're point. Some people enjoy commanding troops from the front. The thing is, the 40k universe is a brutal and unforgiving place. Billions can go unaccounted for, an entire worlds lost just because an adept forgot to write a "0" in some book. A good commander expects causilties, they are unavoidable. You'll save more lives by accepting that some will die for the greater good, (lol, tau) while the majority must move on to do their jobs. High ranking officers have no choice but to lead away from the front. Snipers would have a field day. If I was a commander I would be no less or more than a a mile from the front lines. That if men fall back I will be ready for a last stand, should it be nessecary. The risk of damage to a chain of command can be reduced by removing/concealing features which would otherwise indicate an officer’s rank. Also, armies nowadays tend to avoid saluting to officers and eliminate rankings on BDUs because snipers tend to target officers and specialists first. Just thought you should know. it's still far too dangerous to be on the front. Pot shots, artillery and all that nonsense.

Let's just lug this into personal prefrences and regimental doctrines, that way you can all be a winner.

Yes I understand that, but for the sake of making everybody feel special, you are all right, just don't enforce your view onto others.

I like to take 1 Vet. Sergeant and 9 Veterans, all with lasguns, with an Autocannon and place them in some nice cover with good firing lanes. Only 100 points, too.

Well, I field a Grenadier army, so I can have my cake and eat it too. I use a Vet. squad with two meltas and a ML, lead by a Sergeant with the Honorifica as a objective clamer/area denial unit. The stormies I use to plug holes in my battle line. I should tell you about the time my stormies rapid fired a daemon prince to death in one round of shooting.
And before you berate my choice in Vet equipment, I know it's not the wisest, but it's part of the fluff for my army.

Savayan Well, I field a Grenadier army, so I can have my cake and eat it too. In all seriousness, how's that work out for ya? Specifically against marines?

It's worked as well against marines as any other guard army. Mind, the list also includes two Bassies, so that probably helped too smile . But they are very good at what they do. If you're smart with them, they can take a sizeable chunk out of an opponent's force. Case in point, my stormies kill count includes a Daemon Prince of Khorne, two Leman Russ, and almost four times their number in miscellaneous troops.

Hey fools. I have a question regarding Imperial Guard codex. For Sentinels the Scout ability gives them a free turn at start of the game. Does this mean they get to make a full free turn i.e. move and shoot, or does this mean they can only move? Thanks

I do believe it only gives you the ability to deploy early. But don't trust me, I don't use the scouts ability that much. Also, any of you guys know what colors to paint the Death Korps of Krieg? I can't find any pictures of them not looking like the SS and can't find any colored pictures of World War I German infantry.

I can't find any pictures of them not looking like the SS and can't find any colored pictures of World War I German infantry. the sentinel scout rule lets it get a free move after the roll has been made for first turn but before that turn is actually played out. It can only move. As for your painting problem, why not just try to paint them so that they look all muddy? and just have a neutral color underneath (I think the trench coats were brown in WWI though)

w00t! I stumbled across the armored company rules at games-workshop. OK, so I have lots of imps and some heavy weapons but I think its time to take my army in a new direction cool Ha I'll definitely need to raise some money cause I only have a couple Leman Russ as it stands but I'm uber pumped for this twisted
HQ- Leman Russ Tank Hull Heavy Bolter Heavy Bolter Sponsors Heavy Stubber Smoke Launchers Anti-Tank Rounds Ace Gunners
Elite- Leman Russ Tank (x2) Hull Heavy Bolter Heavy Bolter Sponsors Heavy Stubber Anti-Tank Rounds Ace Gunners
Troop- Leman Russ Tank (x4) Hull Heavy Bolter Heavy Bolter Sponsors Heavy Stubber Ace Sponsor Gunners
Heavy Support- Basilisk (x2) Indirect Fire
Heavy Support- Leman Russ Demolisher Hull Lascannon Plasma Cannon Sponsors Heavy Stubber Smoke Launchers Ace Sponsor Gunners
Total Points: 2000 exactly biggrin
Maximize awesome firepower at long range. Demolisher can deal with any pesky Terminators or the like. Anti-tank rounds will make short work of the heaviest armor 8+2d6 penetration 4 BS 3nodding
