"Order" is such a misleading word. For us, it usually means PIZZA PARTY WOOHOO!

((round of applause for Lorika's oh-so-descriptive summary?))

"Fair enough..." Xeiashi muttered noncommitedly. He assisted in the making of the small oven before laying back and admiring the clouds while the fish cooked. He ended up dozing off a few times, only to be reawoken by the cawing of a seagull or the snap of the fire.

((short short short... scream ))

Many thanks to Bapp for the artwork!

Harata tried not to giggle at the boy. He was another strange one. This island seemed to be full of strange people. "Dinner's ready."

"Dinner?...I thought it was lunchtime..." Xeiashi asked, confused. Regardless, the fish was indeed cooked, and he tore right in. Pre-gutted fish seemed to have a curious, flaky consistency that he had ignored recently, as he was more focused on not eating the organs. Shortly after polishing off his first piece, he paused long enough to say, "This is delicious...thank you kindly"

Many thanks to Bapp for the artwork!

Jessie grimaced and bowed his head slightly, expression quickly twisting into something of an abashed smile. "You are far too complimentary in thinking so. Though..." he continued, apologetic, "Perhaps I was slightly misleading - I've been in love once in my life, and betrothed once in my life... though neither to the same woman."

Pausing, he allowed this to sink in... before bursting into laughter at the sight of her expression. "Very cryptic, I know! ...Suffice to say, relationships do not work the same way where I come from."

Sobering, the explanation continued in a more reserved tone. "We men... as you know... are basically slaves. It was the betrothal, in part, that caused me to run away."

He cocked his head to the side, strands of hair dropping into his line of sight - only to be brushed back by slender, dark fingers. The Captain's voice became thoughtful, similar to the time he considered the implications of his long absence from his family. "I was not afraid of the ceremony so much as what it meant for me and my life. I'd never been free... if I were Branded, I never would be."

"And as for the woman I loved... well," he continued - not with sadness, but the air of a chapter long closed. "She was taken from me far too early... far too young. Isn't the world strange? The good and the pure are swiftly smothered, while the evil and the miserable made to live on."

He cocked his head at her once more, contemplating whether or not to continue in the conversation's natural course. Curiosity ended up getting the better of him - though, wary of her feelings, he pressed ahead tentatively, respectfully. "I suppose it would be too forward of me to ask about your relationships in return...?"

I met a lady in the meads
Full beautiful, a faery's child;
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild.

-------------

Cressa glared out at the morning sky from the window of her luxury penthouse, slouched unnaturally (for an elf) against the wall. The thick curtain was held back by a hand which also clutched a half-empty bottle of vodka - the clear liquid sloshed in its thick glass container as the woman, with a wince of disgust, pulled her hand away and screwed her eyes shut. The curtain flapped shut as the free hand went to her forehead, and the not-so-free hand brought the bottle to her mouth.

"" she hissed.

"" the crow replied sneakily from the top of the armoire. It was mocking. It was mocking. The drow, suddenly enraged, gave a most unbecoming animalistic howl and spun, releasing the bottle, which crashed with dangerous precision into the wall just to the right of where Corie was sitting. The familiar gave a shriek and flapped away from the glass as it shattered explosively.

Cressa growled, then sighed, the silk of her kimono night-robe brushing against her calves as she stepped over to the vanity to take up another of the alcoholic containers. Unscrewing the top, she lifted it up for a swig... stopping just before it touched her lips. She started, and glanced round at the lack-of-apparent-disturbance, seeing something only she could see - or feeling something only she could feel. Her mouth split into a familiar cruel grin at the wall.

"" she whispered, drawing her head back for a small, short giggle. ""

The neck of the bottle finally found its target. She gulped down its contents greedily, like a baby at the breast, as her glossy-feathered familiar, unfazed by her apparent near-brush with death, hopped down onto the mirror.

""

"always angry with me, it makes no difference,>" she replied confidently, ""

She spat out the final words before taking another swig and setting it down somewhat woozily on the vanity. She swayed, but caught herself and, with a hiss of frustration, closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath and flexing her shoulders, she "injected" more magic into her bloodstream. The alcohol's effect lessened pleasantly.

"" she breathed, her words casting an ominous shadow over whosoever's life she'd be making more difficult today, ""

-------------

I saw pale kings, and princes too,
Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
Who cry'd--"La belle Dame sans merci
Hath thee in thrall!"

And this is why I sojourn here
Alone and palely loitering,
Though the sedge is wither'd from the lake,
And no birds sing.

A chilly gust awoke Xeiashi from his work-induced sleep. He had made the final touches to his hut, but seemed to have forgotten to close the door. No matter to him, he went directly outside, having slept in his robes as usual.
Hey, look at that...its cold out... he thought, still drowsy, as he headed for the Temple via his newly-made path.

He could then be found in the Kitchens, eating whatever he could find.

Coline tilted her head, occasionally squinting, trying to take in every word as he went on. She must have looked quite the fool, noting the Captain's sudden outburst, but she remained silent. If not a little embarrassed.

It wasn't a topic she was intimately familiar with, but a chance to know her superior better was always welcome. She hadn't quite expected for the tides to turn on her so suddenly, however.

"Relationships? You mean... a boyfriend...?" she trailed off as her gaze veered elsewhere to think. A minute or two passed before she spoke again, hesitantly. "I... don't think I've ever had one, no."

"W-We should get underway." she shot up to her feet, as if to stress her point. "The other recruits may start to worry if we delay our departure any further. I... will be off to prepare. P-Please, head off to breakfast without me. I'm sure the Priestess would be more than happy to keep you company." turning to the drow, she bent over for a deep bow. "Excuse me."

And with that she made hasty steps for the bathroom. Closing the door behind her, Coline let out a shaky breath as she slid down to the cold bathroom floor, one hand loosely cradling her heated cheek. What a way to start the day...
