So, what's going on in everyone's lives right now? I catch bits and pieces from those who are on Facebook, but I'm curious what everyone's up to now.
I've been working in a DA's office for about a year and a half now, which is fun and exciting. Lots of court time and trials and the like. Last December, I got put onto the office's grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, which pays for a full-time prosecutor to handle felony DUI and drug DUI cases. So that's pretty much been my workload for the past year. It's interesting stuff, and it lets me use the science I absorbed from my parents pretty well. DUIs tend to be somewhat science-y cases, especially when defense hires experts to say ridiculous things like that someone could have been not impaired, then drink enough beer (7 or 8 beers) to rise to a 0.18 BAC, but get into the car immediately before any absorbed into the system and drive and get into a crash. And yes, that's pretty much a case I had not too long ago. I'm enjoying the grant, even if the office itself has some really frustrating internal politics and other issues. But, for the moment, I like the grant, so I'm happy to stay in Middle of Nowhere, CA.

Zelyhon So, what's going on in everyone's lives right now? I catch bits and pieces from those who are on Facebook, but I'm curious what everyone's up to now. Sounds like you're having a time of it, Zel. Good on you, very exciting that you're working with a DA. As for me, I made the move down to Music City, so I've been eating, sleeping and breathing country music for the past six months. Not that there aren't a lot of other types of bands playing, but it grows on you after a while. A very nice change of pace to be able to go out on any given night and find somewhere that's hopping (Kaiser and I hit up a piano bar a few weeks ago, what a trip!), but I don't really have time for fun and games. I managed to swing my way into Vanderbilt's Divinity School and am wrapping up my first semester there. I'm increasingly stunned at how out of touch a number of career students are, both with the outside world, and the expectations placed upon them by professors. That aside, I'm taking names when it comes to most of my classes; I've become one of the go-to people for some of our incoming class to discuss hermeneutics and exegesis, and I've managed to make a few second and third years mad because I call them on a lot of different things. The only real hangup is that Koine Greek is kicking my tail, but it's probably my favorite class. Outside of that, I feel like a damn Luddite in my home. No real internet access, no XBL, no cable, the only access to the outside world is my phone. So if I'm not studying I'm out in the world or rereading old lecture notes. Or drunk, one of those. Now that I'm back in the swing of things though, I'm looking for work to supplement the small stipend I'm getting. P.S. Happy late Thanksgiving to you, friends. And a very late Thanksgiving those of you celebrating from America's hat.

You couldn't possibly be talking about Nashville, the place that I used to live about 20 minutes away from.

Zelyhon So, what's going on in everyone's lives right now? I catch bits and pieces from those who are on Facebook, but I'm curious what everyone's up to now. Sounds interesting, Zely. I only have Pi on Facebook, so people should hit me up because I miss all of your faces. Just let me know who you are first. sweatdrop (If the link doesn't work, I'm on Pi's friend list - Iain Ellmes.)Bought myself a flat few months back and still not really settled in properly. The lounge is sorted, but there's lots of decorating to do in both bedrooms and the hallway... I just lack the money to do anything currently. All the entertainment stuff is set up though, so hey. Been in my current job for about 3 years now, and really needing to move on I think. I currently work in customer services for one of the "upmarket" supermarkets but have been working more with the social media side of things. Would love to get more involved with that as it's good fun, but no opportunities yet. Can't complain too much though as it pays the bills after all.

Awwww!
Well, things have been okay in our household. I'm going to be starting a new job sometime in January, and Stream's doing well, too.
And since these are the holidays, I'm not going to dump the bad on everyone's holiday. After New Year's.
For now, I'm just going to enjoy what I have. And I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday, whatever and wherever you celebrate.
