At least it didn't look like he had gotten himself turned around again. Instead, Alexander had to deal with one of the other local pokemon, a numel. Not that there was much to deal with. The small camel pokemon either didn't notice him or simply didn't care as it leisurely strolled across the path at a pace that could make a slugma look like an olympic sprinter. Still, as more ordinary schools had drilled into him, patience was a rather irritating virtue, and after waiting for a good, long while, the numel finally made it to the other side and Alexander continued on his way.

Alexander let out a ragged sigh as he continued along the path. He almost wished he was back at the bog. At least he wouldn't have had to deal with all of the heat if he was there. It was far too late to change that, though, and he would just have to press onward.
Moments would pass, and yet the girl would find nothing nibbling at the end of the line. ((Alright, I feel I should point out to you for your sake. An Old Rod is only capable of catching Magikarp.))

It seemed as though nothing else would be biting, and she wasn't going to waste too much time with this. Resigning herself to it, she tucked the Old Rod away again before continuing on the path. Maybe if she got a rod upgrade her luck would be better, but for now she'd have to live with it.
As the journey brought Alice deeper into the lush, wet grass of the meadow, she would find herself in the presence of the only tree for miles. Not a single leaf left on the dead oak, it was gnarled and heavily charred. More important however was the beast that inhabited it.
Something scrapped against the bark as a voice called out ">So another group of evil doers have come to take my tree!<" More scrapping, the flick of a brown tipped tail appear from behind the tree for just a second ">Well it ain't happening! I have sworn to defend all who live here....nyamely me!<" Lighting flashed in the background, casting a figure in silhouette as it stood atop the tree. ">I am the cat who sits in the eye of the storm! The feline of personal justice! These claws shred evil and grass alike!<" The Pokemon turned, the flash of the lightning glinting off the coin embedded in her as she struck a pose ">In the nyame of doom, you're toast! Nya~!<" Lighting flashed and thunder rumbled dramatically as if on cue, and Alice would get an eyeful of one particularly over the top Meowth!
Alex was about to find that the heat wasn't going to get any less as he continued on. The next thing he encountered would prove this all the more so. Down the path was the unmistakable bulk of a Phanpy, and of all the things in the world it could be doing, it was dipping itself into a bubbling pool of magma heated water, and spraying itself with it. ">Ah! Nothing like a nice hot shower on such a warm day! Really gets the blood boiling!<" It would seem some of the inhabitants of this place actually enjoyed the heat!
An upgrade certainly wasn't a bad idea. Perhaps something to consult with her professor at a later date. For the time being however the girl would find herself face to face with another Shelmet. This one unlike the first however didn't merely squirt and run. Instead, it's body noticeably battered and dented, the Pokemon stood directly in her path, blocking the way. From the seriousness of it's gaze, it would seem she wasn't just walking by this one. Like a knight standing in the path of bandits, the Shelmet would give a nod of it's head, causing the 'visor' of it's shell to fall down. Nope, this time the girl was in for a Battle!
Alice watched the strange routine from the tree with rapt attention. As the Meowth appeared, she couldn't help applauding. "So cool!" What a showcat! What a darling! She could hear Vorpal sighing, and realized that this wasn't his battle... for multiple reasons. So she'd lightly kiss his hilt before recalling him. No, one good sparkplug deserved another...
Bouncing on her toes and giggling like a loon-- this was a striped monster with a plan. >I am the starfall that lightens the darkness! < The Blitzle' was practically glowing in the darkness, her new tiara catching some of that shine. >I am the carthorse that carries the cherries! I am the Alpha, and she's the Omega!< The electric pony struck a pose, pointing a hoof up at the Meowth! >I.. am... MADDIEMON!< She'd hold the pose, and sit right on her haunches. >So, what are we doing?<

A defender of justice Maddie was not. More so than anything the Meowth felt like she was being distinctly mocked....mocked by a buffoon in fact. Which was even worse. What did one do when they were being mocked by a horse? Well the answer was obvious really. Resort to childish comebacks! In this particular case that would involve the Meowth turning about, bending over, and shaking her rear at them childishly.

((Oh, I just remembered something! In the previous battle with the Bellsprout Shinx got 17 exp from it, was the Seed of Experience factored in there?))
Another Shelmet, only this time it stands in front of them and blocks their path, where the previous one had only popped its head up and squirted water at her before diving back down. This one looks intense, no-nonsense and ready for a battle. That was fine. "Shinx, it looks like another battle. Use Night Slash." It would be a shame if this one were to be taken down in one hit like the Bellsprout, there was something about it that appealed to her. She wasn't going to tell Shinx to hold back, though, because she wanted to see what the Shelmet was capable of.
Pleased with the prospect of another battle, Shinx bounds forward to meet the Shelmet. >Try to last a bit longer than the last one, okay? It's not as fun if everyone is taken out so easily!< Done with his bit, Shinx draws up his claw to Night Slash down at the Shelmet.
(I had forgotten that, and for that I apologize. It should have been 26 not 17.)
(7 - 5) + (15 - 9) = 8 DMG
Shelmet HP: 6/14
Survive the Shelmet would indeed, but that wasn't going to be the end of it for the Shinx. Oh true it had muscular superiority in this fight, but the Shelmet had an advantage of her own! Diving off the side of the lilypads and into the bog, the Shelmet would come up a moment later covered in mud, and flying straight at the unnamed Shinx's face! If the cat wasn't quick enough they'd be going down in one mighty Mud-slap!
>Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle...< Maddie watched the bouncing tail with curiously, her head following the odd creature's movements. How curious! Her own tail began to swish back and forth, almost of its own accord... but unfortunately, she couldn't wiggle forever. At Alice's command, she'd focus (so hard she almost sneezed!) and summon up a relatively weak electric current. She'd rear into the air, sending the Shockwave right at the Meowth. A safe bet, if not a particularly impressive one.

As it happened though this cat was more than used to being occasionally electrocuted. So the rump wiggle would continue, only this time she'd make an addition of snapping her tail back and forth. Maddie was receiving a Tail Whip!

((It's alright, I forgot too! I'm just glad to have remembered before it was too late))
Not only did it survive, but it also had a very interesting move for a low leveled Bug type Pokemon. In fact, it was not unlike Shinx who hatched with a Dark type move rather than the standard moveset for Shinx, thanks to one of its parent Pokemon no doubt. Recognizing the move as a Ground type and one of Shinx's weaknesses, Poppy calls for him to move back. "Shinx, keep away from that mud, try your best to dodge it." It was an impressive Pokemon, and she thinks she might like to try to catch it after this attack on Shinx.
The little bug was still standing, huh? Watching the Shelmet as it dives into the water and come up muddy, he acknowledges Poppy's recommendation with a flick of his ear as he bounds from one side of the lilypad path to the other. >Not bad for a little squirt! I'm almost tempted to let you hit me just to see how much it'd even do!< Always with the cockiness with this little cub.
Let was probably not the correct word here, as the Shelmet swung it's body and successfully smacked the Shinx upside the head. Unfortunately, even then the blow managed to be glancing. More of a flick across the nose actually. A cleaner blow would have been painful, but this was not that blow. Shaking the remaining mud free of it's body, the Shelmet would hunker down on the lilypads.
