Liani Vine Maybe it's just because I grew up with the first 2 generations of Pokemon, so when they started chucking new ones out I was horrified.
I still have an oooooooold book that lists only the first 151. I got it when I was 5... Yea, but I have the same type of stuff, and I LOVE the new pokemon that come out. For me, sticking with only a few of them limits the number of combinations that you can run into. (Like how EVERY rocket you ran into had a Zubat and a Rattata.)

EDIT: @ Mirou: Well in Emerald, every Aqua you run into has either a Poochyena, Sharpedo or Carvanha.
And every Magma either has Slugma, Numel or Houndour...
I think it's just a trend that they keep. Easy to differentiate between the teams.

Mostly.. yea.
I did enjoy that in Pearl, Platinum, Diamond, HG, and SS, the teams were more diverse. And there is an enormous amount of potential in the new games for positive change.
For instance..
The protagonists are no longer 12 year olds.
The battle system is fully animated, with shifting cameras and attack and defense animations.
The entire format is now in 3D.
Brand new pokemon. Presumably evolutions for old pokemon.
New abilities, with more diverse playing strategies.
The water starter is an Otter.
Seriously though. Epic win.

Pad Chief Ekans is the best Pokemon by the way guys. Did you know. Ekans is SNAKE backwards? Did your brain just explode? Sorry. Arbok is KOBRA backwards. Oh oh, I'm sorry, has yer brain sizzled yet? razz Personally, I agree with Liani on the upcoming Fifth Gen. The pokémon are just... too cute for my liking. They're like that really thick icing that tops a wedding cake; sweet, but in an extraordinarily unnatural and sickly sort of way.

Shame they couldn't do anything about the oversized "nodding doll" heads they still seem to have. -.- I'm still waiting for them to make a console version where you can actually CONTROL your pokémon.

Gah. I wish they would release proper Pokemon games for the Wii (Pokemon Battle Revolution was a bit of a joke- you couldn't really play it unless you had a DS...)
@ Tez: What do you mean? Like you use the arrows to move your pokemon around?
