(( Sounds fun xD
I'll try to! But I'm going to get him back for touching my head like that >:c ))

"You pass....for now," he said with a teasing tone to his voice.

He moved in front of her and assumed his own position, getting ready.

"Let's focus just on your defense for right know. You should learn to block the best you can. Try and stop as many of my hits as you can, alright?"

He waited for her to say she was ready before his hands started to dart forward towards her sides in a quick pattern of short chops. He was gentle with the force he used as he landed hits, so as not to bruise her. Since it was just a training exercise, there was no need to use his full force.

(( Okay, but be careful! We don't want you forgetting anything important up there if you see him again! *Knocks on your head lightly* ))

Scowling playfully, Kiah waited for him to pick a spot and get ready, focusing on her stance as he gave her instructions. "Okay, I'm ready when you are!"

His speed surprised her at first, which allowed him to get in a few good hits before she realized that she should be blocking them. She was somewhat glad that the chops didn't hurt very much, but she didn't exactly agree with him going easy on her. Her attempts to stop the hits were clumsy at first, more like flailing than anything, but once she got down a good rhythm she managed to block at least a third of them. He was much too fast for her to have any hope of blocking more at the moment, but it was good progress, at least.

((
Forgetting anything important? o: What do you mean? *shies away a little from the gentle knock but doesn't get upset by it* ))

"Good."

He continued to throw shots at her, smiling as she got the hang of it. She was already getting better than before and he encouraged her improvement with little comments now and then.

"That's it, you got it."

He continued for about 8 minutes (which actually felt like a lifetime when you were constantly throwing and blocking hits) before stopping and straightening up. He shook his arms out to stretch the muscles a bit, turning around and walking around the little circle. He was pleased with her level of skill so far and looked forward to gradually continuing with her training. He suddenly stopped walking around and put his hands on his hips, turning around to face her again.

"What's the main reason you want to learn these things?"

(( Because when he touches your head, he can make you forget things! D: You might not remember him if he manages to grab you again! ))

Kiah was laughing breathlessly at his comments, a smile practically glowing on her face at his encouragement. She didn't bother to say much in those 8 minutes, as she was trying very hard to keep improving while they continued with the activity. Once he'd stopped she paused for a brief moment, registering that they were done, and also straightened up.

She watched him walk while getting her breath back, tilting her head at his question. "Well... I guess the main reason is that I want to be able to fight if the need arises, and not be someone that needs to be protected," she answered, shrugging a little self-consciously.

(( Oh. I thought you were talking about something more important that I shouldn't forget. I don't think I could forget the man who touched my head and tried to mess up my hair! ))

"I see.."

He nodded and thought about her answer for a bit.

"I thought maybe another reason would be because of what happened in town that time. Do you know anything about basic self-defense?"

He asked not only because it was a good thing for everyone to know, but because he was still concerned about her well-being. He didn't want her to be afraid to go into town alone anymore, although he thought he wouldn't mind being her escort as long as she wished him to be. Regardless, it would be best for her to learn for when he couldn't be there to watch over her. If it would also give her self-confidence, that would be a plus in his mind. He was already aware that she was an independent young woman, and it was obvious she didn't want to be babysat or worried about. He certainly didn't want to be the source of her irritation if she thought his looking out for her was bothersome.

(( Hello Sil c: ))

(( I don't think he would take any super important memories away... >///> Haha, then you better not let him mess it up again! XD

Welcome back Sil! <3 I'm glad you got home safe! :'D ))

She couldn't help a small wince at the mention of the incident, unconsciously moving her arm over the healed area. "It's not the main reason, but it is another one... I try not to think about it too much."

"Um... I don't think I do...," Kiah answered with a nervous laugh, sifting through her thoughts in hopes of finding something. "Oh! I'm usually pretty good at slipping out of holds... That counts, right?" She gave him a hopeful look, not sure about any other forms of self-defense. It had been awhile since she'd practiced it, and she couldn't exactly say there was a rhyme or reason to the way she did it, but it was the best she had.

(( I hope not :c There are thing up there I really wanna keep! ))

He noticed her small flinch and felt bad for bringing the subject up, but was still glad he had. Knowing she could use more practice with self-defense was something important. He was happy he'd be able to address that for her, too.

"Getting out of a hold is very important. I'm glad you know at least some about that. I'll prepare some things for next time, so we can boost your skill in self-defense. But now...are you ready to climb some trees?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 03, 2012 8:54 pm

(( Oh? Like what? : O ))

"I think I'm as ready as I'll ever be!" Kiah was excited and nervous at the same time as she tilted her head upward, trying to decided which tree she should use. "This one should be okay, right?" she asked, already heaving herself up onto the first branch above his head.

The tree was close enough to the others, and the branches weren't spaced out too much, so once he'd approved of the tree she continued to climb. Once she'd gotten halfway up, she turned her head to Kanda, being careful to remember her father's old rule for climbing trees (One hand and one foot on the tree at all times!). "How high up should we be?"

(( Like....certain people. ))

"I don't think you need to ask that if you're already climbing," he laughed.

He followed her up the tree and tried not to look up too much, because that meant looking directly at her behind. It wasn't that it was something he didn't want to look at, but he thought it wasn't appropriate for him to be staring at. Every now and then he still glanced up and caught a glimpse, convincing himself it was so he could check her position.

"As high as you can go while still being certain the branches can support your weight. The reason for this is so you can be more hidden among the dense leaves, and also so you have a better vantage point. You can always move lower if you need to as you switch between trees."

He moved up until she had gone as far as she dared, remaining below her because he was heavier and couldn't go as high, but also so he could be there if she were to slip. He glanced up again and cleared his throat a little before crouching on his tree limb.

"If you keep your body lower, your center of gravity will be lower. No matter what you can always use your arms to balance yourself and grab hold of another branch if you feel you're swaying and losing your balance. Another important thing to remember is that the branches are flexible and can dip with your weight as you land on them. You have to be prepared to compensate for that, and pick your spot ahead of time. The best limb to jump to is one that has others around it so you can use your hands if you slip..but you don't want one that's too crowded, or you'll just end up getting caught up."

(( Ohh... Yes... I would hate it if I forgot someone, too...

And I must get to bed... orz Goodnight! <3 ))

"Okay then, further up I go!" Once she'd gotten to a relatively stable branch near the top of the tree, she'd stopped, slightly tugging at a branch above her and finding that she didn't trust it to hold her weight. She debated on if she should look down at him from her position, but quickly shook the worry and listened to him attentively. "I got it... So, that one over there would probably be good..."

Kiah set her sights on a branch that didn't seem too far away on the tree across from the one they were in now, slowly standing up from the crouched position she'd been in. She stared at it for a long time, determining that it would hold her weight and glad to see that there were a few others around it she could use to catch herself. She braced herself with her hand on the trunk of the tree, refusing to look down this time. "Well, here goes nothing!"

Running as far along the branch as she dared, Kiah launched herself over to the next branch, heart beating frantically in her ears. She managed to land on the branch without slipping, but her body was tilting forward more than she was comfortable with. Holding her arms out and waving them, she attempted to right herself again, lurching forward and grabbing a branch in front of her before she could fall over. "Haha... That was a close one..."
