"I did want to come." Until he had to go and do that. Fishing used to be something they'd both enjoyed. He stared at the murky surface of the water for a long moment then glanced over in mock surprise before his face closed up and his lips took on a pouting position. "Why wouldn't you? If I lose then maybe I'll give up my silly dream of being the best and focus on something practical. Like school or runes or potions. I'll be the good son and sit behind the desk and do something worthwhile with my life. But that's not my dream and you already have plenty of good children, don't you? One bad one isn't going to hurt your reputation too badly. So be happy. And now you've got a fish so mom can be happy, too."

"Sometimes. But temptation is one of the most difficult things to go up against. More often than not I yield and then I'm stuck because I know I shouldn't be doing it." Shaking her head and frowning. "As if that makes any sense at all." She was quite pleased to hear that he was getting along so well with the job she'd given him and nodded happily then set down her wine glass and began to rub at her shoulder and neck. It was paining her from where she'd been lying on the couch. "Good. The horses all seem quite enamored with you just as Destyny appears to be with Jin. Silly ones they are. You have everything you need?"

Said fish duly make his line snap and thus get away with his bait and his line, though he hadn't moved to even care to do anything about it. "I'm sure you'd be surprised if I told you that you are my favorite, if you even believed me to begin with." Yes it was like a vicious circle he couldn't get out of...one thing went right in his life and two others went wrong. Perhaps it was some sort of divine punishment that not even he could get away from. "You must think me stupid." Shaking his head. "If you lost you'd never do any of that...you'd work harder to fix your mistakes and the very next chance you got, you would show them all up and rise from the fall you had taken the time before." Looking out over dark water, giving a sigh. "You're not me and I can't make you have everything that I didn't at your age. The more I try to, the more you hate me for it. The more I push at you, the more you resent me." No he wasn't stupid...he knew the truth, he just didn't like to admit it. "Believe it or not...we're more alike than you think. You never wanted what I had in mind for you, and I never wanted what my mother had in mind for me." Or more preceisely his sister but that was arguing semantics to a point and he didn't have the will for that at the moment. A look to his broken line then to Kel out of checking habit but they didn't come back to Zykariel, more or less focused on the bank where the water barely made noise as it hit the rocky shore. It was time to just stop fighting it all and letting things fall into place..whether or not the cards fell in his favor or not. He was tired of trying to earn the approval of everyone else around him that he would never get...perhaps his age was catching up with him. And here they were about to have another baby too. Oh it didn't look good. Quiet he may be, one could see the distraught look that flashed over his eyes before his mind tried to will it all into a dark chained corner in his mind, just as it had all the other things in his life he wished weren't true. Bad as Zykariel may think himself, there were worse of Sevilin's children...like that girl for example. "I let you out of school because it's what you wanted...I let you do whatever you want because that makes you happy...I have nothing else to offer you and you're still not happy. What else would you have me do then to make you so?" A shake of his head and a dismissive wave that made the questions perhaps rhetorical since Sevilin feared his already knew the answer. "You should head home with your brother..."

Getting up he walked over and took to rubbing at her neck and shoulders for her, knowing that no one ever really got relief from doing it themselves and she had been laying really funny when he had come in. "Makes sense. We all feel guilty afterwards and such. "Suppose I jsut have a way with horses...or I just spoil then. I think Zykariel's horse only tolerates me because I'm making them work better together. As far as her and Jin...I have no clue there." Giving an affirming noise though since he was behind her. "I do. I've been keeping myself together despite all my short comings nad you're making things easier for me now so I can concentrate on other things."

"I don't hate you." Never had, never will. "I just wish you understood me but you don't even try. You hate what you hate and have prejudices against what you will. No, I'm not you and I don't know what it was like growing up with sisters who used and abused me. And I'm sure mom feels sorry for you and has comforted you more than once on that point. Great." then sighing once more and tossing his own line since apparently they weren't actually fishing at all. "I want you to be my father. Just once I want you to really be proud of me because of what I've done not because of what I can do. I want you to look at me and see me, not what you want me to be. See me. Just as I am. This is me." But his dad was giving up just like he always did. "Come on, Kelligrin. Dad doesn't want us around anymore."

The human saying was little pictures have big ears and it was no more true than on that bank. Kelligrin had heard it all from his spot at the water's edge where he was playing with a lizard that had wandered his way. Towards the end of that conversation, however, he stopped trying to trap the unfortunate creature and instead jutted out his bottom lip as words from the older elves flew around him. The mood was no longer happy and he knew something important had just transpired. "Daddy?" Very unhappy at his brother's words, he ran over and threw his arms around his father's arm. "No!"

Rolling his eyes at the toddler's antics, he walked over and tried to tug his little brother off but the child just burst into tears and held on. "Fine. Stay with him. Maybe you won't disappoint him." Shaking his head and turning to leave. "Just tell mom I went for a walk or something."

She closed her eyes and sighed happily as his fingers reached that troublesome spot and brought soothing relief to the aches nestled there. Nadai gave fantastic massages, something to remember for future use. "Destyny is a spirited girl who never really knows what she wants. She'll n** at Jin's flank and annoy him until he ignores her and then fight to get his attention back when she misses it." Shaking her head, "A silly mare, fast and high-spirited. It's always so amusing when you see your own personality manifested into a horse." Very pleased with his response, she nodded her head and let her eyes close though she noted with a frown that bond disturbances were taking place. All three of her men were upset... "That's what I like to hear, Nadai. Have you ever considered pursuing what you do here as your career?"

The boy just didn't understand did he? And he was wrong too...he had always been proud of Zykariel, he had always seen the boy as he was, perhaps had just tried too hard to do better by him. Yes...the boy made it hurt all the more with how then then took his father's past and made it trivial. Even when he tried to say the boy was right, he threw it back at him...he didn't believe that his son didn't hate him for a single second, just like Zykariel didn't believe him either on other things. Even went further by twisting words. He didn't look to Kelligrin either as he merely picked the child up and got up himself. "No, you're going home." Grabbing Zykariel by the shoulder, he pushed the child to him and with a scribed rune, duly sent the two back to the front porch, leaving himself standing there alone. Poles and such were merely left to slip into the water and he pivoted on his heel, heading to Twilight to leave a message with Keely, duly leaving that place then without another word and heading away from both there and the direction of his own home.

"I see you saved me pointing out the similarity." Chuckling at that before sitting down beside her as he deemed that her muscles has loosened up enough for the time being. "I'm afraid she won't get much out of Jin without being direct. You know how non-nonsense he is." Blinking at her frown a moment. "Trying to compete with you? Never."

Okay...that wasn't good. Kelligrin was trying to wriggle free and get to his father and was putting up a royal fuss which made it hard for the teenager to hold onto him. "Kelligrin, stop it! Ow-" Dropping the younger elf, he watched him scramble off and rubbed his nose. "Damn you! Come back here!" Kid couldn't run very fast since he'd only just learned to walk a few months ago. He could get him in a minute. Right now he was just going to sit there and feel sorry for himself.

"So it is that obvious, hmm? That's almost frightening." She settled more comfortably on the couch, swiveling to face him and then laughed. "Not compete with me. I meant as a healer for the horses. You know nearly as much as I do about potions and the care and feeding. A few more years working with me and you'll face every possible situation and be ready to handle anything you might run into in the field. You could work for the tracks or private owners. With horses becoming more and more popular, their problems and the needed solutions are as well." And that was a huge negative bond spike. What in the world was going on?

She paused for a few moments and let her bonds settle and move about in her mind. Kelligrin was the least happiest but Sevilin was right up there and his was becoming less and less coherent as if he were moving away from her. Holding up a finger to Nadai, she pushed off the couch and went outside. "Zykariel? What's the matter?"

He glanced up at her, never happier than that moment to see his mother coming towards him. "Mom." Feeling her embrace him, he buried his head in her shoulder and started to cry, listening to her soothing words and reveling in the feeling of her fingers petting through his hair.

Letting his tears taper off, she rocked him gently and pressed a kiss to his temple. "Did your brother stay with your father?"

"No...he ran off, Mom. I'm sorry, I tried to hold onto him but I couldn't-"

Zahara stared at him for a long moment. "Where is Kelligrin, Zykariel?"

The teen looked at the ground and picked at a lonely patch of moss. "I...don't know."

"And your father?" The same answer had her up and shaking her head. "Nadai!" Oh good, he was already outside. "Get your cloak and Jin. We have to find Kelligrin!"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 30, 2008 7:39 pm

He blinked as if he hadn't thought of that and honestly it did make sense. "You know, that's not a bad idea at all. After all, there's enough horrible things that happen to horses when they aren't cared for and the like. I think I could do that. Something I'm good at and something I can indeed do. Provided you have the time to teach me though." Blinking again as she got up and wandered outside. Equally surprised he followed and it seemed things had gone bad with elves somewhere. "Screw the cloak." A whistle brought Jin to him and he mounted up despite tack, giving the horse a kick. "You stay here, I'll get him."

He couldn't of gone too far and he was right as he did indeed find the little elf belly down on the hard ground and crying with scraped knees and elbows and under his chin. Obviously he'd taken a fall in his little haste to get away. Getting down off of Jin, he picked up the little elf making soothing sounds to try and quell his crying. "Shh, it's alright now...we'll get you back to your mother and she'll fix you right up." Hopping back up on Jin, it was a little trot back to the house with the baby.

Gods love Nadai. She knew he'd find Kelligrin and bring him back and in the meantime, she could get the entire story out of Zykariel. But the boy was proving to be more difficult than she'd originally thought and she hadn't gotten very much of what had transpired at all. "Where is your father, Zykariel?"

"I told you. I don't know. He shoved Kelligrin at me and told me to go home and then sent me here against my will. Kelligrin wanted to stay with him but he wouldn't let him. He's gone, Mom. I don't know where and I don't know when he's coming back."

Which wasn't good news for her. The teen refused to say anything else on what he'd said to upset his father or what the two had argued about, just that harsh words had been exchanged and they'd fought. Great. But glancing up as Nadai came riding back, she shook her head and ran over to meet the two, gently sliding Kelligrin into her arms. "There, there, baby. I've got you. Come on, everyone. Into the house."

Kelligrin was a very unhappy elf indeed. Not only was he unable to find his father but he'd also seen a spider and in trying to squash it had indeed tripped over rocks and fallen. He was bleeding and hurting and Daddy was nowhere in sight. Even when he'd called out for help, his father hadn't come. Nadai had managed to soothe him slightly but the moment he saw his mother, the volume hiked once more.

Getting down off of Jin, he wandered over to Zykariel and rested a hand on the boy's shoulder in reassurance, waiting for him to get up before they all headed into the house. Yup, something had seriously gone wrong and this was the afermath. A look to Zahara and a tilt of his head. "Anything I can do?"

Attempting to soothe Kelligrin, she held him against her breast and rocked him, all the while covertly feeling for broken bones. "Would you get my medicines' bag? It should either be in the stables, in my room, or in the herb closet." When she'd calmed the little elf down to sniffles, she carried him into the kitchen and began checking him over and gently washing his cuts and scrapes.

He really didn't know how to feel. First he'd upset his father and sent him away and then he'd lost his little brother and that baby elf was all scraped up because of him. He glanced up at Nadai rather forlornly, but didn't move to help any of them. They were all upset with him anyway and he knew it. Waiting for everyone to become fully immersed in other things, he quietly grabbed a pack and stole out of the house. He was going to find his father and he knew the first place to look.

"Keely? Keely!" Glancing around for the human girl. "KEELY!"

He fetched the bag, luckily for him it was in the first place that he looked for it and he brought it back to her, setting it down on the counter with a look to the door as he had heard it open and close. Attention back to Zahara and the toddler though and he made an effort to replace her bowl of quickly bloodied water. "I'm sure it's not as bad as it looks."

----
This day was just getting more and more interesting, that was for sure. First Sevilin and now Zykariel had shown up. Coming to the front door a the sounds of the boy's distressed voice she frowned in concerned manner to him. "Zykariel what on earth is wrong?"

She gave him a smile as he really was trying to help and was quite concerned as well. "No, it's not. He just took a rather nasty fall trying to squash a speeder, didn't you, baby?" Pressing a kiss to the little elf's forehead and handing him a cookie while she doctored him up. "He'll be just fine." A few bandages and a bit of stitching on a cut that was deeper than she felt comfortable with and the little elf was being rocked in her lap on the couch once more where he promptly fell into reverie after crying so much. It had been a stressful while, really, and she was so thankful Nadai had stayed with her through all of it. "Would you take him up to his room, Nadai?"

He was so glad to see her, he picked her up and hugged her tightly. "Keely, I've done something really really bad but I don't really have time to go into all that now. I need you to go stay with my mom. Can you do that?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:10 pm

As was the way with children, cookies seemed to solve most problems and being back with his mother probably helped all the more. But he merely followed her about helping as he could and now was once more keeping her company as she seemed in need of it. "Sure, I can do that." Thusly taking the little elf from her and wandering upstairs with him to the room that held the crib that of course had to be the child's. Back downstairs he sighed. "Eventful..."

--
Another blink in surprise as she was twirled then and set back down. "But Zykariel, I have to take care of things here...tell me what's going on. I need at least something to go one and frankly you sound like you're going somewhere."

She had been prepared to reassure him through it that he couldn't mess it up and it was a highly simple process, but he seemed just fine. He took the little elf with a strong grip and carried him easily up the stairs the way Sevilin usually did. She wanted to know what had happened to upset things so much but no one seemed very forthcoming with answers. "Eventful is right..." She was trying hard not to burst into tears. "I'm pregnant, dammit! I can't take all this stress." Shaking her head. "Are you staying?"

"I know you do and it would only be for a little while. I just don't want her to worry and she will if no one is there to reassure her." Frowning as she went about asking all sorts of questions. "I have to find my father. He...left."
PostPosted: Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:58 pm

Patting her shoulder he took a seat next to her again with a sigh and trying to be comforting for her as best as he could. That's what friends were for, right? "Calm down now...and I can stay if you'd like me too. After all looks like you can use some help around here for the next day or two that I can't just walk away from."
--
And she was still confused looking. "Yes...I know he left. He told me. Why do you have to find him. Did something happen at home that you need to get a hold of him?"

"I'd like you to." She needed comfort and Sevilin wasn't around to give it so Nadai became her comforter. Leaning her head against his shoulder, she wrapped her arms around his neck and breathed in his scent. Not Sevilin but he was a warm pair of arms that could hold her when she felt so totally alone. Like now. 'I just wish I knew what happened. Something went terribly wrong and now...things are just so messed up and I don't know what to do about it."

"He told you? Did he tell you where he was going? When he was coming back? Why he was leaving?" Frowning again at her as she seemed to not want to answer his questions without more information, he sighed. "I said some things I shouldn't have and he became upset. He wouldn't let Kelligrin stay with him and then he sent us both home. I don't know where he is and my mom is going to really worry. Where is he?"
