She hadn't been feeling well lately, the morning sickness that had been so awful when Zykariel was renting space returning with a vengeance with the new baby. Luckily she wasn't being pulled into random reveries just yet since the baby wasn't fully formed yet. Sitting now with a cup of tea, she glanced over the books once again and shook her head. They still had no idea where the added funds were coming from and it was a bone of contention between the both of them. Nadai and Zykariel were far easier to be around these days than her husband.

Studying had never been a problem as long as it had something to do with something he wasn't already well versed in or really good at. Today...it was something he was really good at so he wasn't really studying for an hour but more skimming and reviewing. Yes, his father said he only had to attend those classes he chose but the school disagreed and strongly encouraged him not to push his luck. He'd been quite a discipline problem lately according to them. Stupid bastards.

Slapping the book shut before Nadai's sentence was even finished, he tucked the book away and bolted towards the stables, leading an already saddled Destyny out. "What's today's lesson?"

"I think we should work on jumping." That got a worried nicker from a nearby grazing Jin and he chuckled, walking over to the horse and petting him in soothing fashion. "No, I'm not going to make you, just borrow your saddle and another horse. No worries old friend." Though Jin did made a sad sound and nose at the tarnished and dirty champion tack that was his and Nadai's that was sitting nearby. "You know I don't blame you. It was my fault." Thusly walking back over to Zykariel. "You're going to have to learn by listening today or she's going to have to tolerate me as a rider." Said as he was adjusting Destyny's new style tack some. "And we really need to get you a proper tack set made rather than modifying a normal rider set."

Zykariel knew how Jin felt about various things and had been rather amused as Destyny continued her strange behavior around the other horse. Sometimes she nipped him randomly and other times she shared a treat or grazed nearby but never in a way that seemed accepting. She was such a picky mare but that was one of the reasons he adored her. She reminded him of his mother. "Listening is good, Nadai. You can't show me everything after all and this will help in school." Patting Destyny's neck and leading her through her warm-up exercises. "You'll have to wait for my financier to come back home. He has my steel."

"What have your share stashed away? I suppose I could get one made for you, I have some connections after all." Shrugging lightly and letting the boy warm himself and his horse up as he strolled over to the little training area they had set up together for such things, this time perching himself on the fencing as he waited. The boy coming over though brought on the teaching voice. "Jumping with your heels up so high makes you feel like you're going to come right out of the saddle. First things first is to know that won't happen if you anchor your feet properly. Secondly it is again a lesson in counter balance. A horse jumps head before feet. When they go into their jump you need to shift your weight back and then follow their bodies with your weight through the jump while also keeping your tension on the reins so they know you're still there. Watered down...you're going to keep your reins steady, lean back and then lean forward with her jumping, right into your proper race posture we've been practicing."

He looked uncomfortable for a minute. "It went to a good cause." Shaking his head and then clicking his tongue at his horse and leading her into the arena with the jumps and whatnot. Nodding, he attempted to visualize it all and then chewed on his bottom lip. "It's all about timing. Alright." Thus, giving wordless commands to Destyny and working her around and into a gallop before taking one of the first hurdles. He managed it though shakily, nearly losing his balance and his seat but saving it all at the last possible second. The second one, a bit higher didn't fare so well and he went flying. "Ow." Picking himself back up, he brushed himself off and walked over to Nadai who had gotten Destyny back under control for him, giving a rueful smile. "Not as easy as it sounds."
PostPosted: Sat Aug 23, 2008 11:18 pm

"Mostly. Here, I'll show you." Thusly a pet to Destyny and making sure he had her attention. "Let me have a ride with you girl? That way Zykariel can see and won't fall off anymore and maybe get hurt." Knowing how to appeal to the mare and thus be granted permission, further showing her that it was on her terms as he eased into mounting up on her. Though to her he was probably more comfortable in said riding tack for her even. Zykariel would perfect with time.

Thusly he got Destyny to cooperate with bribe promise mostly, getting her to go through the motion a few times so she could feel how Zykariel should be moving while at the same time letting Zykariel see how the motion was done. More push and shove with ankles than the boy was doing to begin with. Trotting back to the boy, he gave him back his horse with a pet to the mare. "See? You have to just let it become second habit sort of."

"They're adding jumps of that caliber into it all now?" He had to get out of his stifling house and thus he had ventured out, only to be watching these two...which made him resent Nadai all the more seeing as it seemed he was even stealing the admiration of his own son along with his wife's.

Destyny did indeed take that bribe as well as appealing to keeping Zykariel in one piece. It was important to her that Nadai understood that was the only reason she was doing such things. But she performed the jumps beautifully, just as she'd been trained and then stood obediently while her own rider mounted back up.

For once he was glad that his sore bottom wasn't going to be touching the saddle and he clicked to her and took her around to get his bearings then attempted the jump again. A few more falls and some more movement and he eventually managed to jump nearly all the hurdles in the arena with only a few minor mishaps, none of which resulted in him being unseated.

The little elf who was acting as his companion merely looked up at him and blinked wide red eyes then rubbed them and nestled against the large chest. He was tired and Mommy wasn't giving hugs lately. "No."

Nadai blinked and looked over his shoulder at the voice, seeing Zykariel's father as well as the other young elf. Was he that one's father too? Man seemed to be around an awful lot. "Racers have evolved since my day. But even back then they had jumps and such." Despite the vibe he got from the man, he tried to be nice. Looking back to Zykariel he gave a clap. "Good Zykariel. See how it feels now and how you have to move with her? Gives her the room she needs to move as well."

He watched his son, yes indeed he could see the boys riding was better and it perhaps made Sevilin hate him more. A look down to his younger son who had little to say as of late. A pat to the child's back with his free hand, trying to soothe him as best he was able...it was almost like it was back when it was just him and Zykariel and Zahara was trying to detach herself from them. "No? Now what's no?"

"There's going to be the same kind of jumps in the race in a few weeks, Dad. I've got to get it all under control in this method of riding if I'm going to take home the Big Three." And he was planning on it. It was the biggest event in Labyrinth aside from the annual tournament. But that was Malikhai's chance to shine. His was the races and he was determined. Taking another trip around, he led Destyny back through the jumps and then gave a happy nod to Nadai. "Getting your body and timing perfect is all it really takes. And once you know how it's supposed to feel, the rest is just concentration and proper signals."

Sniffling, he rubbed his face against Daddy's tunic and then glanced up at him again. "No Kariel. No horsies. No hugs." Big eyes going watery. "Mommy love Kelli?"

"Oh well...I suppose practice is good then..." The boy was excited clearly and was enjoying even showing off for his new idol. All he could really do was stand by and watch it all happen or make his son even more upset with him personally and Sevilin wasn't sure if that was possible. His attention turned to his youngest once more, sighing as he seemed to not be able to make even the little toddler happy. "Mommy still loves you..." A look to his son and Nadai, then to the house, then back to his youngest. "How about we go fishing? Would that make you happy?"

"That's right Zykariel. All about timing and learning to move in a way that is beneficial. That's what old racing style used to be like, you weren't riding your horse you were one with your horse. I dare say some more practice and you'll indeed win that race by a longshot. While everyone else is weighing their horses down, you'll be giving yours the room she needs to be her best."

Hah! He was right and that just gave him even more confidence and pride. He let Destyny prance around a bit, showing off for his father really though when he looked up his father wasn't paying very much attention at all. More focused on his little brother. Zykariel sighed and went back to putting Destyny through her paces, training her harder than he usually did all in the name of progress and competition. He didn't know why he felt the stab of hurt since he was used to being passed over for his other siblings. Inthara's learned early that in order to be noticed you either had to need something right then or draw their attention in another way.

"Yes, Mommy does still love you. Why would you even begin to think otherwise?" Reaching down and scooping her current baby of the family off his father's lap and holding him close to her. "Did you see Zykariel practicing, Kelligrin? One day you're going to be able to do all of that too." Rubbing his back with a chuckle as he wrapped his arms around her neck and refused to let go.

"Daddy and Kelli go fishin'."

"Yeah? When?"

"Kelli no know. Daddy?"

His son probably wanted him to leave anyway, the boy was quite adament that there was no point for Sevilin to be involved and that he should just leave him alone and let him do his thing...and by deal standards, he was obligated to let Zykariel indulge. Still didn't stop the covert glances, watching the boy being so happy and more or less basking in the praise of the younger man teaching him. His attention however was drawn back to his wife as she took the youngest and seemed in a better mood herself. "Suppose in a bit, maybe bring something back for dinner." Turning another look to his eldest with a light sigh, "Not like I have anything else to do..." Just when he thought he was getting his son back, he was going to lose him again.

He wasn't stupid though and he noted the look the boy had given over to his father and the slight disappointment there. Shoving his hands in his pockets he watched a bit more before speaking up. "Is Sevilin Kelligrin's father too?"

She jostled the toddler who was happily babbling to her about everything under the sun and glanced over at Sevilin for a moment, watching his gaze closely. He was standing sentry over Nadai and she didn't like it too much but there was nothing she could do about it. The grounds were his domain and when he didn't trust something, it didn't leave his sight. "That would be good. I don't believe I'll be eating tonight and we haven't had fish in a while. The boys would enjoy it, I think."

Zykariel pulled Destyny to a stop and let her rest for a minute, glancing down at Nadai and nodding. "Yeah, he's my little brother. Dad's got quite a few kids though we're the only ones he really is involved with. I met my half sister a little while ago." Pursing his lips at that and deciding not to mention that said half sister was now dead along with the aunt he never knew he had. "Mom complains about always having to take drugs when she doesn't want to harbor life for year in order to have any 'fun.'" Wrinkling his nose at that. "I think it's really because of my dad though."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 25, 2008 9:19 pm

"I'm the one that doesn't eat, remember? What happened to forcing yourself because you have to?" After all she was pregnant and what not. A surrendering sight though as if he didn't have the drive to fight her on the matter...not the normal learned habit complacent sigh, just one that said he didn't know how else to approach everything. "Well...at least Kel would enjoy it..." He doubted Zykariel would even care what he was eating if Nadai was at the table...and Nadai had been at he table several times this week.

That was interesting...he couldn't figure it all out completely what was going on around here with Zahara and Sevilin and the kids that she did have. Didn't really need to know about Zahara drugging herself to prevent against more kids but he wanted to know more about all these things. He liked Zykariel and the teen seemed like he needed a vent source. "Because of him? What he doesn't want anymore kids?"

"I know but this one is tearing my stomach to pieces. If I do put anything down, I'll end up expelling it once again." The toddler told her everything he wanted to and then whispered a secret in her ear and she nodded and handed him back over to Sevilin. "Couldn't hurt to ask him. Worst he can say is no, right?" Glancing back out at the two in the arena and then getting that thinking look. "You could even take Nadai along. I'm sure he'd be a lot of help either in the fishing or watching the boys."

The questions didn't faze Zykariel in the least. He didn't know why Nadai was asking them but it seemed pretty harmless really. "I don't know what he wants and half the time mom doesn't either. Sometimes it feels like he really doesn't care about anything anyway. Those are usually the times he makes mom cry." Shaking his head to that one and then dismounting and letting Destyny go and n** at the grass a bit with Jin. "How come you don't have a girlfriend, Nadai?"
