Can anyone please tell me this much?
If you've suffered from a head concussion, what's one of the two tests they run to assess damage to the brain?
Please tell Ember btw. Because I find it highly odd that someone who's been hit by a car on the head and has suffered a concussion does not know this. A big FREAKIN machine that makes a lot of noise. You remember now Ember? HMMMM?
Get someone to flash a light in your pupils. Make sure that they are dialating correctly.
*claps* pretty good Jamjam, I'm impressed
biggrin That's actually one step beyond what I was looking for.
Yay! :] I just took a test on the brain in Biology today :3. I also go a concussion last year hehe. *Hugs Kei* How did you get a concussion, bro?
I haven't Jamjam
smile The last time I hit my head was when I went mountain climbing on the island of St Kitts, I rolled down a hill and smashed the side of my head against a rock. No concussion though hehe.
And I know MRI/CT scanning because :p I'm in 3rd year med school...and I plan to go into neurology. It's our tools for screening and diagnosis. Your pupil comment was excellent though; shows a good understanding of neuronal circuitry.
Let me make a correction though:
Darkness dilates the pupil. Light constricts the pupil.
When you shine into the pupil, it activates the pretectal nucleus and then the Edingar-Westphal nucleus (oculomotor nerve center). Oculomotor nerve (cranial nerve 3) is a parasympathetic nerve, it functions to pupillary constrict in response to light.
If a person was brain dead, and you shone light into their eyes, their pupil would remain dilated. It would not constrict.
