Sil laughed, knowing that he was right—if he tried to force her to do anything it would be as effective as commanding a boulder to roll. The guilting was nothing more than a joke, of course, and she expected to get no reward for it. However, as he noted in that moment that she would be the first and theoretical last who would ever hear him sing, whatever words were on her lips instantly silenced.
As his lips parted and his actual singing voice came out, she felt a shiver come over her. The sound was one that she was not used to hearing and the meaning of it was far from lost on her. She knew what it was to share a piece of something that was purposefully kept hidden, and as the song continued and his voice mixed with the harmonic symphony of the water they were settled by, she drew in a deep breath. Her eyes softened and she drew her knees into her stomach to hide the smile that had touched her lips; one that was so smitten the feeling actually scared her. His singing voice was different, natural, and to her it sounded raw and wonderful.
The crescendo left her shaking her head slowly, incredulously now. “That… was beautiful, Lavi...” she said softly, reverent and awed her voice barely audible above the waters song. As the glass was lowered back to the ground, she placed her poll horizontal, saddling to her knees, her warm, soft lips gently brushing the corner of his lips when she was close enough to reach them. “Thank you... That was the best present anyone has ever given me...”
