That's sad. It's good though, isn't it?
"Yeah, I do. I don't spend as much time at home anymore since I'm a racer and there's more to do in Vesendar and Deepwater and whatnot. I mean he's my dad and I love him and always will. He's been there for me since the beginning. And even when he does lecture, he does it because he's worried about me. But like I told him, I don't have anything else that I'm good at that I enjoy like I do racing." Shaking his head. "He hates horses and the feeling is pretty much mutual."

Very good. I may have to bribe him into getting some...or stealing some. Whichever. Although he knew Nadai didn't like being a thief anymore.
"Well my advice is to at least find something tolerable that you're good at in some way. That's what I'm doing now, or at least trying to." Giving a sigh and leaning back on his palms some. "Horses just aren't for some people." Blinking at the boy, "Doesn't sound like you're so much mad at him, more like you just want him to understand the racer's mentality.

Don't worry. I think you'll be having some very soon. Zykariel only gives it to me when I've done something really good.
"But my options are limited by what I can do and my age. I'm supposed to be in school now and I haven't stumbled on anything in school that just strikes me, you know? My mom loves potions and horses and my dad loves his runes. I hate runes and I don't have the patience to sit down and study for the amount of time I'm supposed to. Doesn't leave me with too much." Shaking his head and then studying Nadai as he finished roasting the fish and handed one over to be consumed. "Yeah, I guess that's really what I want from him."

The you should be good more often.
"I wouldn't say you have to pick now...you're still a young boy. Long as you have your basics down I don't see what a little harmless fun would hurt." Chuckling lightly and sitting up as he took the cool end of the stick that was handed to him, picking at fish with his fingers to pull off pieces and eat them. "It's a hard one to grasp...might be better to not butt heads with him to spare everyone the headache." Sighing lightly, "When we head back to my place, make sure you ride with your knees up though so you can get more used to it."

She nipped him in the flank for that one. I'm always good.
"It's a little more complicated than that though. I have some of my basics down and a lot of things I can do really well but I randomly zone out in my classes because we're doing something I already mastered. So it seems like I don't know what I'm doing. I'm pretty sure most of my teachers think the only talent I have is racing." Shaking his head and then taking a few bites of his own fish. "Do you think I should go back home soon?"

A snort at her nipping. Not always.
"Then make a point to show people up when they do try to say you know nothing. And do it overboard, that wil hush someone up quick and no one will question you any more." Both tending to their food in silence for a time before it was back to talking. Nadai took a moment to pick a bone out of his mouth and flick it aisde before swallowing what he had in his mouth. "I think that you shouldn't stay away so long that your mother will start to worry about you. Or you'll probably stay till I run out of food to eat." Chuckling at that, though at the same time it was probably true.

"Yeah I was kind of thinking the same thing. I mean I appreciate what you did for me and all but...I kind of miss home and mom's cooking." Her too but he wasn't going to admit that to another male elf no matter who he happened to be. Saying 'I miss my mommy' just wasn't something they did. "I was thinking about leaving tomorrow. I want you to come with me."

"Sure, I can come with you if you go home tomorrow. It would probably do your mother well to know that you weren't just out and about wandering the underdark." Getting up he put out the fire the boy had made and offered him a hand. "Come along then, best to head back and maybe practice some more. You'll enjoy your reverie tonight I'm sure."

He took the hand and used it to stand up then called Destyny over and did indeed mount up, keeping his knees up and his butt lifted off the saddle slightly then gently shifting his weight so she'd pick up her speed naturally but keeping her reined in. "I think that's an understatement."
Which turned out to be very true. He even remained in it longer than usual but continued with his original plan, packing up the small bag he'd thrown together when he left. "Ready, Nadai?"

"Yeah I'm ready." Swinging up onto Jin and giving the horse a pet before a snap to reins to get them going, both of them making thier way out of Vesendar and into the open wilderness of lands that were indeed mostly claimed with D'vinn name. He let Zykariel lead mostly since he knew the way home better. "I don't think you'll have to worry about her being angry with you."
He was in the middle of a chapter when his ears twitched and he perked up where he was sitting at his desk. Marking his page he got up and wandered out to the front porch, peering out into the underdark. Yup, those were nightmares, that was his son...and there was Nadai. What the hell was he doing back here?

He did indeed know the way home and led Nadai that way, pulling up to a stop and dismounting with a wince. His thighs were killing him from being in that crouched position for so long. He caught sight of his father a moment later and blew out a breath, moving his bangs slightly. A little embarrassed about coming home with his tail more or less between his legs. "Hi Dad. Where's mom?"

He watched Nadai mount down to, indicating that the man was planning on staying...well he could just stand out on the front lawn for all he cared. Though red eyes turned back to his boy and he watched him a moment before a hand pet through his hair like when he was small. "I believe she's in her potion ingrediant pantry thing."

He gave him a half crooked smile, a replica of the one he'd seen so many times but caught his hand before he did too much damage or embarrassed him too much in front of Nadai. "Inside? Okay, come on Nadai." Thus into the house with him, finding his mother and tapping her on the shoulder then blinking as he was more or less smothered by her. "Mom. I'm fine...really."
She didn't care, she was so pleased to see him that he was showered with hugs and kisses and then she stepped back to look over him and sniffled. "I'm sorry, Kariel. I was just so worried about you." Shaking her head and then looking to Nadai and vaulting herself into his arms as well. "Thank you for taking care of him."

He was afraid he was used to the brush off his son had a habit of giving him and that didn't sit well with him but there wasn't too much that he could do. Did not sit well either that Nadai was invited in and more or less walked by him without so much as an acknowledgement. He stalked in after the two, silently watching and nod enjoying anything he saw really. Nadai was a rival in his eyes.
It was kind of touching really, Zahara did love her children he knew that much. Though he stumbled lightly, regaining his footing as Zahara launched herself at him and he wrapped his arms around her, rubbing at her back in comforting manner. "It was no problem, we did manly things. You know, ride horses, cook fish on an open flame, all that good stuff."

He managed to squirm his way out of his mother's arms and turn his attention back to Nadai. "He was real nice, Mom. Let me stay with him and eat his food and everything." Giving her a grin before leaning against the wall. "Mom," he began slowly. "Nadai was wondering if you might need some extra help around the stables..."
She laughed softly and then stepped back, wiping her eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm just extremely emotional right now." Manly things. Of course they did. "Well, he's back in one piece. How can I ever thank you?"
"Actually, we were talking about that." Obviously she hadn't heard him earlier, had she? "Nadai wants a job, Mom."
"A job? Oh..."
"Yup. In the stables. With you pregnant and all, you can't possibly take care of them as efficiently as you do otherwise and once the baby comes, you'll be all engrossed. And with my schooling and training, I can't possibly pick up the slack." Yes, he was manipulating her.
"I've never hired anyone before, Nadai, so it might be slow going but I would appreciate the help. We can work out salary and all of that later if that's workable for you."
