It's a big fish. Stepping back some to let her have her own time at the slightly cooked fish, knowing that mares could be quite snappy when it came to such things and he had no desire for that. I'm a good fisher. Have to help Nadai out as best I can. Poor Nadai indeed.
"They probably can't speak to their horses either. You know I was told for a long time I was crazy for saying I could understand what he says...I don't know how I do know, but I can understand him." Shrugging lightly to that mystery that he never worried about really. "Well, they'll never be winners if their hearts are not in it." But it seemed the boy was continuing to be excited...which was odd. Did his mother or no one else show positive ways to this and thus he had no support about it? "Of course I'll still help you...you have a lot of potential in you. I assume you're not going to quit afterwards anyway...so you might as well soak up all the old trade tricks there are."

Thanks. She used her own hooves to cook one side a little further and took a few more bites then stepped back. He not a good cook? Zykariel isn't really either but he has his mom to do that for him.
"They just don't understand connections. Some of the humans that race are really out of the loop because they don't understand bonds like we do." Shaking his head. It always seemed silly that a human would try to compete with an elf when they had little prayer of winning anything long enough to spit at. "I appreciate that. Malikhai's just my financier and mom doesn't have anymore tricks to share. She never raced before. Plus she's kinda busy with the others."

He's a good cook, he just needs the help getting things to indeed cook. Money's tight. Nipping again at food before he left the rest to her and headed back to the water to try and stomp more fish. After all, Nadai was very much the runined racer. He made his money on racing and when that was gone...well he kind of took what work he could get these days and made things last. Though Jin knew he was studying certain things lately...which was a good thing.
"Ah to be elven." Chuckling some at that and turning a look to the horses, one eating and the other back in the water and fishing. He always thought it was funny to watch him fish. A quirk of an eyebrow though, "The D'vinn boy? You've got yourself some pretty fancy sponsoring there. What about your dad? Does he come to watch?"

She wasn't really a sit and watch kind of mare though and she got herself up and wandered over. You just stomp the thing? You'd think it'd be smart enough to not come that close to you anymore. But she lashed out with her own hooves, attempting to knock one that swam by on it's head. Harder than it looks.
"Yup. We've been friends since we were little elves in the cradle thanks to our respective mothers." And fathers but moreso mothers. He couldn't even count the many times he'd been over to the D'vinn's playing when he was little. Nearly everyday. His face took on that typical teenage look that meant he was irritated with something. "Only when he feels obligated to. He doesn't like racing too much. Thinks it's a waste of time and my other talents." Using his freshly sharpened blade to chip away at the rock outcropping. "He wants me to focus more on school and stuff."

They like the heat of the water so they come close. Shaking his head with a nicker. Just stop when they venture too close, takes some practice.
"Well, you do indeed know people in high places. It's a nice thing when it comes to such issues as racing." Frowning lightly though as he seemed to not be too happy about his father...well then why'd he take his name. "Maybe he just sees the worries so much that he can't let himself see the joy it brings you. But yes school and such is important...or you end up like me kid." Chuckling lightly, "Not as glamorous as it sounds."

She tried again and again and again but managed to miss everytime. This was getting frustrating. Stomping wildly, she walked further out and nearly lost her footing as something brushed against her. Vaulting out of the water, she snapped at whatever it was and turned a look to Jin. Don't laugh.
"He does. And some of it is probably warranted." Putting his dagger away after a bit of further inspection. "I'm not very good at controlling my magic. When I get really upset or taken off guard, things...break. He wants me to spend more time focusing on that than I do racing. Mom's kind of torn because she knows how I feel." And because of the whole issues when he was small but he wasn't getting into that. "It's kind of complicated. What do you mean, end up like you?"

It was funny watching her try and actually spooking herself from the water, but he didn't make a noise at all about it. Merely perked his ears forward and tossed his head lightly, moving back to the water and fish that were attracted. A few stomps and he'd caught himself another one, which he brought back to shore and went out to get another one.
"Magic is rather important and if you don't have it under control it can be your undoing one day. It's just dangerous othewise but I'm sure you know that and don't need a lecture on it." Shifting his weight lightly with a sigh. "Before I had Jin...well I was a thief and a blackmailer. When I got him, I got into racing. Racing was everything to me and like many a young racer I thought that it was going to be there. But as you know, I had a fall and that just ended it all in a flash. Now I wasn't a studier when I was younger and I never really did anything other than quick simple fixes. So here I am now, scraping the bottoms of barrels week to week while trying to make myself more useful."

He didn't need to make a sound because she knew he was laughing at her. She would have been laughing at him if he'd been the one to do it. She snorted at him and then watched once again as he began to catch the fish again. How did he do that?
He was so right that Zykariel didn't need a lecture on it. He got enough of those from his teachers at school and every once in a while from his parents. Usually they started in when he broke something because he still couldn't control it. "A thief and a blackmailer?" That was...not what he was expecting. But he could appreciate the valuable lesson seated within the story. "Why don't you come work for my mom?"

It just takes practice and patience. Grabbing another two fish and plopping them back on the shore in the little pile he had before he stepped from the watched, shaking water off his hide with a snort and flare of fire.
"Yeah, not very proud of it but I'm from the generation that built Vesendar. Not too many things to fall back on. But I get by as I can. It's not easy I'll tell you that." Blinking though in why didn't I consider that fashion. "You know, I never thought about it...mostly because your mother has yet to hire anyone into her things. When she used to come by Vesendar more frequently, others would ask and she'd turn them down."

One thing she didn't have and the other thing she didn't particularly want to do when it came to fishing. She watched him for a few more minutes then walked back to the little pile of fish and set her hoof on the top one, letting it sizzle and cook. Picking up the one beneath it, she carried it over to Zykariel and plopped it in his lap with a snort.
He blinked as the fish was handed to him and picked the thing up by its tail, holding it up for Nadai to see. "Dinner? I know how to cook them by campfire. If you want, I can fry it up for us." He and his dad had gone fishing since he was just a little elf. "That's because she didn't trust anyone with it before. But now she's got too much going on to be as involved with her horses as she wants to be, especially if she's pregnant again. I'd mention it to her and see what she says. She trusts you."

"Yeah, that's mostly what me and Jin like to do for most meals. Fish is free and you can do a few things with it." Petting at the horse that had wandered over and nibbled at his tunic. A grin to the boy though, "If you'd like to cook it as such feel free. Maybe I can learn something knew as far as meals go." Shifting some for comforts sake on the hard ground though he gave a nod. "I suppose she does in some capacity. But boy is she hard to find as well."

Destyny earned a pat and one of the small treats in his bag which she brought to Jin and dropped in front of him with a nicker. Zykariel, meanwhile, went about what he'd been taught since he was knee high to a grasshopper. He gutted the fish with a dagger, removing the entrails and unmentionable pieces that weren't any good cooked. Tossing those back in the water for some other fish's dinner, he started a small fire and used a stick to roast the fish. "That's because of my dad. He feels better when we're hidden."

Jin had given a sniff at the treat before eating it and giving quite the surprised nosie. He'd never had anything like that before, what was that?
He watched the boy that demonstrated quite the expertise in this manner and didn't offer any help other than handing him the other fish as well to do the same to. "So...your father lives with you and your mother then?" This just got more and more interesting.

Sugar. I get it when I do something really good but since you shared your dinner with me, I thought you deserved some, too.
"When he can. Sometimes he's busy with work and since the D'vinn's are gone, he's been spending an awful lot of time at their house lately." He gutted the other fish the same way and soon had both roasting on spits over the fire, turning them as his father had taught him to. "It's nice to have him around though. Even when he is lecturing." Rolling his eyes at that one.

Sugar? Oh that makes sense, we can't afford that.
Oh so his father didn't live with him? He supposed that made more since seeing as Zahara probably didn't want such men around. She seemed too damned on being on her own really. "So you like spending time with him then since you don't see him very much? Or is it more of you're annoyed he's around despite how nice it may be?"
