He's not a teacher.
Emile is too young as well, and he's a shapeshifter, not a bardi.
He's someone she would scribe/summon at night and wouldn't want to be overheard talking to in the dorms.

In the last guild I was in charge of I made a character do a dramatic exit (like suicidal) before I left for Japan.
