Hello all. Just sneaking in to say goodbye, really. Culling can only be expected to keep the quality up to par in any group, so I understand the stiffness completely. I don't know if I should be posting this in the absent thread, but I think it would be best to take my name of the guild's ledger. I'm going to be gone for a few weeks more, and I doubt I'll really be able to jump back into the game when/if I come back to Gaia longterm.
Pleasure doing business and games with everyone. Oh, and rock on, you wild and crazy guys and gals. - Mat

Sorry everyone for my unexpected absence. Cox Internet around my area just went crazy and it would be random if it would work or not. One minute I could be starting to get on to read topics and halfway through loading the page the Internet would quit on me. But now they have fixed it so that shouldn't be a problem anymore hopefully. Now off to read what I have missed thanks to it.

Serrated A friend of mine I have RPed with on MUDs for a good deal of time once told me that in most original-character RPs, people tend to make their characters portray their ideal view of themselves. God bless you Xerokine Dyrnwynn Caeruleus, for your astute powers of observation. I've created many different oc's for rp and my own stories. Does that have something to do with many multiple ideal shades of oneself? btw, sorry about that short absence, but i had work, a late night, then early work and then I conked out. So i'm going to post for the rp now while I can.

I really don't want to be kicked out, but then I really don't just want to jump in on an event that started so long ago. I need time to think.

I think a good RPer will make a character with personality quirks and traits that are suitable and beneficial to the story at hand, while being at least somewhat interesting to those both actively involved and passively enjoying. But I do disagree with Xerokine on one crucial aspect of his theory: most people's ideal selves have no flaws at all, but flaws are what make an RP interesting. For example:
Xerokine (and everyone else on that MUD) has the potential for flight, but he's scared of heights. Don has a long, calm temper but his anger tends to be explosive and overly hurtful. Rednal (what ever happened to him?) was self-confident to the point of near-Narcissism, with a sadistic streak. Ruby had serious problems opening up to people. As did Kay, as do many of the other characters here.
My thought is this: every character you create will have some part of yourself locked within, and that level of "Mary-Sue"ness varies both from character to character and player to player.
I'll go into further detail on this later, but it's borderline essay format and I'm a bit to zonked out right now to do a college-level paper on how RPing an OC is an example of being made in Jehovah-God's image.
