Lorelei resisted the urge to sit for another few minutes, then sighed and took a seat on one of the headstones after murmuring a small apology to whoever was buried there. She would sit, but not anywhere near him.

"I still don't fully trust you. Why me? Why not my brothers and sisters?" she asked, referring to the caravan as a whole.

Taniel smiled softly as he watched Irina relax, eyes darting over to Kal and Eerie - and they, too, were at ease. He hadn't entirely lost his touch, then, and that was reassuring.

He continued to weave his song into the meij, words and voice coaxing the child inside of Irina to come into the outside world. He didn't try to force it - he merely made sure that the child knew the proper way to come. The slower the birthing process, the longer he would have to sing and keep Irina in a trance.

"I don't recall every asking for your trust, just that you follow me, but as you have seen i have done nothing untrustworthy while we came here." Warren was slightly ruffled by Lorelei's stubbornness, but under the circumstances he realized he should have expected it, still it irked him somewhat. " I was sent by someone who was concerned about this situation, he was under the impression you would like to know what was going on, so here i am, as your guide. you can decide once the whole evening has passed whether it was worth your while" he gave her a quizzical smile "and if it is a waste of time, you lose nothing but an evening, but you may learn something invaluable, and then you should be thanking me and my benefactor."

Ki rolled her eyes at the guard to the holding house and held out her bag for inspection. The round woman was getting tired of jumping through all these inspection hoops. All she knew was that Zak was here in the jail and that he and a friend needed bailing out. She rolled her eyes again.

In her bag there was a few nonsense things, some of Van Dien's wooden blocks and wooden animals, a canteen, the couplets needed to bail Zak and company out and something that Val had given her with specific instructions. "Is that all? Are you quite finished?" She sneered at the guardsman, and he sneered back, waving his hand to show her through the door. She wished that would be the last time she would ever see him, but she knew all the same that she'd have to walk out that very door and past that same man on her way out. Oh well... cross that bridge when she came to it.

It was almost a full ten minutes later when she had sorted everything out with the deskman, and had a peice of signed paper saying that Zak's bail had been paid and that he was currently free to go with all his fingers intact. Now all she had to do was wait for them to bring him to her... so she had a seat on the rouch red leather bench in the entry way, and tried not to make eye contact with the deskman.

Zak was looking rough with dark circles under his eyes he haden't slept well in the holding cell and had taken to running his hands over where by all rights there should have been fingers.
he and Tam had talked to lawyers, they had talked to cops, neither had done much more than shake their heads or in one case a particular backwards whistle at the idea of their case.

but here he was being walked to the end of the men's area hands behind his back with feeling definitely more whole. he grinned and wiggled his thumbs against the shackles as he was led to the reception area.

"Ki!? oh my god! KI!" he shouted when he saw his landlady the hand of his handler on his shoulder and the shackles prevented hugging "what do I owe you for this now?" he said jokingly.

Tamlin followed Zak out feeling much more optimistic about this island with all her finger back in order, she decided she would bring out her usually ignored flute as soon as she returned to the wagon. although, she mused, after being kept locked up she felt she needed to expend quite a lot of pent up energy, perhaps some local children might be amused by an acrobatic show...

her thoughts trailed off as Zak jubilantly thanked Ki, the wonderful woman who had taken the pains to remove them from this unfair mess. once Zak had finished his show of gratefulness Tamlin, now with her hands free and whole, gave the woman a full embrace.

"My dear what a mess this landed us in, we were getting absolutely no where with anyone who was supposedly helping us until you came here. those insufferably kind police and lawyers were just hopeless. if i had known the law here better i might justify calling them worthless and inept. the inactivity of it all felt nigh to kill be with frustration."

Tamlin caught herself before the rant began to really make way, remembering she was trying to thank Ki for her help and her manner became formal.

"My thanks are unbounded although i have nothing to repay this kindness, please, should you ever need a favor do not hesitate to call upon me."

"oooh bad choice for there" said Zak attempting to subsume his grin and rubbing his wrists as they waked out of the jail. "Ki, she'll take it outa yah hide in hard labor"

Tamlin laughed heartily at Zak's warning

"After sitting on my arse for so long doing nothing productive I'd agree to pull her wagon"

her laughter continued momentarily then she looked slightly apprehensive not completely knowing if Zak's warning was warranted or not(consonance for the win)

"although, i suspect I would be able to provide more help in other ways" she amended her statement for Ki just a bit.

Ki rolled her eyes at the two young former inmates, and frowned at Tamlin. "Don't be absurd. If you pulled my wagon then my horses wouldn't have anything to do, and if you don't have a purpose then you're not fit for anything." She turned to Zak, looked him up and down then turned back to Tamiln. "You two look like you're half starved and smell like you need a bath." With a humph she turned around more quickly than a woman of her size should have been able to and frowned at the deskman. "What the's matter? Don't the tax coins pay for dinner for the accused? How are you supposed to lay charges on dead people? Huh?"

Then with a huff, Ki turned again and started to storm out of the room. "Oh, and don't thank me. It's Val who sent me here, and Val who paid your bail. Something about not being able to leave caravaners in a jail or something... she put it a lot more eloquently, but I'm not Valelldia." As she reached the door she called back without looking. "And once you're hands are free and you've got the idiot at the desk to give you back all your stuff, I'll be waiting outside. I've got something for each of you from Val."

Zak lifted his arms and sniffed experimentally whilst makeing a face that expressed a thought that hey, I smell like this all the time, what do you want? its not like I sleep inside.
the guard chuckled darkly at this and the suggestion of baths for inmates and gestured with mock aplomb at the door.

Zak strolled out into the muted marine sunshine thumbs hooked on his pockets. He scanned the steps for Ki and upon catching her eye grinned and shrugged.

"Oh stop grinning at me." Ki chucked a small bag at Zak. Inside was a peice of bread and a skin full of clean water... and a few couplets (5). She had another similar bag for Tamlin when she came out of the holding house. "If I were Valelldia I'd not have bailed you out so soon. I'd have let you stew in there wihtout your fingers." She glanced sidelong at Zak while she adjusted a boot. "What were you in there for anyway? Oh nevermind." She turned away and started to ruffle through her own bag, looking for something. "I don't much care anyway. As long as you're back soon enough to care for the horses again." Then she seemed to find what she was looking for. "Here. This is for you... from Val."

And then she handed Zak a dog collar... a very old looking beaten up dog collar with a name etched into the inside... Romana... There was also a note.

Val's note
Zak,
this is for you. Please take good care of it, and do not wear it or put it on another animal. It belonged to a friend of mine a long time ago. Maybe it will help to remind you, that captivity is not at all enjoyable. Please, deign to stay out of trouble for a while.

"uhh" Zak looked at the paper while he chewed the now vanished bread, writing okay, well "do you know what this says?" he asked Ki and fingered the collar with an uncomprehending expression.
cool collar, its for a big dog too

Ki eyed him for a second before nodding her head and taking the note off the man. She read it through for him without commentary on his lack of literacy, and then handed the letter back to him. "And if you ask me, which you didn't but you're gonna hear my opinon anyway, that collar's probably somethin' special you're gonna wanna watch out for. That's just how Val works I think." Ki shrugged and looked over the collar. "Oh, and there's a name scratched into the inside of the collar here. She pointed at the etched leather. "Romana. Probably a dog's name or something."

"Right" he tucked the leather collar into his pocket with the money. it was stained and rough but felt good in his hand. "I'll hafta thank her when I see her next, and she's right about jail being no fun a'tall"

(occ, dammit, now I might have to name her Pax for obscure pun reasons)

"Ehm, uh, no...thank you." Anezka accepted the couplets and then slowly backed away from the strange man. She shot a look at her mother and gestured with her head, wanting to leave the area before things became much stranger. She looked over at Irina and gave her an unsure smile, before grabbing onto Lesh's hand and heading off after Caroline.

Intending to stay with the group, Anezka unfortunately lost them in the crowd. Wandering around and looking everywhere, the only person she recognized was Leshya'e. Haven't lost mum, that's good at least. Deciding that it would be better to stay in one place then wander around looking, she put her hands on her hips and continued to scour the crowd with her golden eyes.

(( Anezka.... pm me if that post is for me XD ))

Ki turned as Tamlin came down the stairs, and without a word to the girl, Ki held out a very old looking burlap sack. In the sack was a chunk of bread, a bottle full of water and 5 couplets. Only when the bag was in Tamlin's hands did Ki speak. "It's from Val. And you can thank her as the one who bailed you out... still." She shrugged her shoulders. "Who knows why val does the things she does huh?"

Inside the bag there is also a note.

Valelldia
To Tamlin,
I send you some things, food and water because I know that you'll apreciate them, and some couplets becuase you never know what you might need on the way home. Also, the bag that these things come in is meant for you to keep. Put in it only the things that you may never need again, for I do believe that you'll have to go wihtout them once the bag has them. But please do use it.
Come and talk to me if you have further questions.
~Val.
