I'm sorry, I feel really stupid while asking this, but what's the difference between Folk and Viking Metal?

Viking is actually a sub-sub-genre of folk isn't it?

It's a specific type of folk metal. Viking also generally has an epic, sort of battle type sound rather than fun.
Korpiklaani's folk sounds different from the folk used in those considered as Viking to me.

Viking has more thematic elemets and such. However now, most viking isn't legit viking anymore, it's Viking/folk. Oh the slow decline of music, why do you mock me?

This may have been asked, I don't feel like skimming all the pages right now (really sorry) but what would you say Sonata Arctica goes under? I always have trouble with that one because their genre depends on the cd and sometimes the song...

My Hollow Not a problem, this is exactly what this thread is for. Ummm... I never actually found it, so I was just gonna make one next time I get online... they were my favorite band at one point and I still can't figure out exactly why... but I digress, they're good.

You have to be more specific on what you mean by mellow band. I would say Rainshadow is a pretty mellow band.
