((for the record: Gore was a half orc. not an ogre))
Tochi listened to the conversation that was going on. Remembering all the stories that Travis told.

*Hikari and Adhara appear in the kitchen. "Busy as usual" she thinks. She walks over to the enormous refridgerator and peers inside*

What looks good to you Addie?

Ignoring as usual the nickname, Adhara looking into the fridge. After a moment of consideration, she pulled out a bowl of fruit salad and half a loaf of bread.

"You see any roast beef in there?" she asked Hikari.

Shinta sat in the kitchen listening to all that was going on. He felt frustrated at the way the others had handled the ninja attack and the hostage they had captured. Nothing had been done to safeguard the pagoda in the future. Such was his anger that he failed to greet the newcomers in his usual courteous manner.

Deciding he needed some air, the swordsman stood and bowed to those gathered, then left for the lakeside.

*Hikari dug way back in the fridge and found some slices of chicken, but no roast beef. She pulled it out of the fridge and started to set it onto the counter next to the salad. Just as she was doing so, she saw Shinta get up and leave. He didn't look right. Usually he would have greeted anyone entering the room but he had just stormed out when they entered. She hoped he wasn't angry at her, although she couldn't imagine why... She tried to think of anything that might have upset him. Hikari was so deep in thought at that point, she didn't notice she was still holding the plate of chicken and the fridge was sitting wide open, blowing cold puffs of air onto her. She shivered, but really didn't notice*

"I take it there was no roadt beef in there?" Adhara asked, taking the plate of chicken from Hikari. "I guess this would do for a sandwich just as well."

She found some mustard and lettuce near the front of the fridge and turned to making her sandwich.

"Are you alright?" she asked her friend. "You look more worried than usual."

Oh, there was no roast beef, you want this chicken?

*Hikari motioned to her now empty hand. The fact that the chicken was no longer there snapped her out of her thoughts. She looked slightly embarrased but it passed*

Oh, sorry... It's just Shinta. I've never seen him look so upset. I mean, even in very tense situations, he's always been very calm. But just now, he looked, well, he looked angry. I dont think it will come to it, but I would just hate to see him return, even for a moment, to his past self...

Oh, I dont think you've met Shinta have you? He came here shortly after you left. He's rather sensitive about his past, I should let him tell what he wants, but suffice it to say, it wasn't pleasant.

*Hikari made a quick sandwich and sat down heavily. She looked back at Adhara*

You'll find many people here have some very colorfull stories to tell. I dont think you could find such a eccentric group of people anywhere else, but I think that is a good thing. No one here is satisfied with living within the narrow supid rules that the world seems to want to live by.

"Rules are meant to be guidelines. Some people just take them a little to far when it's all they've known," she shrugged, piecing together her sandwich and sitting down across the table.

"I'm sure that your friend Shinta is fine. People do tend to get a little touchy from time to time, but I doubt he meant anything personal by not saying hi. I bet he just has a lot on his mind, or something," she added, trying to sound reassuring. She toom a bite of her sandwich, and then she realized something.

"Hey, want something to drink?"

Sure. Wait, I'll get it. I read about a levitation spell a while back in the library but haven't been able to try it out...

*Hikari focused on a pitcher of iced tea sitting on the counter, brewing in the sunlight. As she whispered the incantation, the pitcher began to shake. It only lifted about an inch above the counter before the shaking grew strong enough to make the tea start to slosh over the sides. She stopped and the pitcher sank back down to the counter. She hadn't considered the effect an unsteady levitation might have. Maybe she'd try an empty glass instead. She focused on a glass in the open cupboard and began again. The shaking was still present, but concentrating hard, she was able to bring it just the few feet between the cupboard and the table. It hit the table kind of hard and fell on it's side, but she had managed to bring it anyway. She grinned and got up to get another glass and the pitcher and brought them to the table.*

Cool huh? Maybe if I practice it enough, I can stop the shaking...

"Yeah, I would prefer to drink my tea from a glass, not the table," Adhara grinned. She got up and grabbed the pitcher to bring it over, along with another glass.

"But that was pretty neat. How long have you been practicing that?"

Adhara

Well, actually, that was the first time I really tried it. The incantation was similar to a binding spell I know, well, kinda the reverse actually, but the mode and level of concentration were the same. If I can find time to practice it more, I should be able to move almost anything that isn't firmly attached pretty easily. Well, that will come after a long time of practice... I can barely move a glass three feet yet

*Hikari poured some tea and sat back in her chair. After so many weeks of intense happenings at the Pagoda, and the journey with Travis, Hikari was glad for a few moments of peace and quiet*

"Hmmm, well you certainly have more concentration than I do," Adhara smiled. "I never liked sitting still for lessons for long. They were always so boring."

She took a bite of her sandwich, thinking about her lessons so long ago in her home village.

'Perhaps I should have paid better attention instead...,' she wondered.

((I'm baaa-aaack!))

Lux listened with half an ear to the conversation, then watched Shinta disappear from the kitchen.
Rising from her seat, Lux strode to the refrigerator and removed a water bottle, then left the kitchen through the back door.

Shinta reappeared in the kitchen. His sword practice and the conversation with Cole had done much to straighten out his mood. Donning a pleasant smile he went over to the table and bowed politely to Hikari and Adhara before sitting down.

"It is good to see that you are well Hikari-dono." He said amiably. "Last this one saw you was when you left on the quest in aid of Travis-san."

He wide expressive eyes landed on Adhara. "Good afternoon, this one does not believe we have met good Miss. This lowly one is called Shinta here."

Sensing regret from Adhara he asked, "Pardon me for asking, but is there something troubling you Miss?"

Aideki

PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2004 2:17 am

After getting a good rest, Aideki awoke from where she had fallen asleep in the living room. She couldn't remember the last time she had slept so long. And though her sleep was dreamless, it was comfortable compared to the nightmares she was accustomed to.
Feeling her stomache growl irritably, obviously angry because she slept so long and ate so little, she got up from the sofa and headed into the kitchen. She noted a few others already in there, but only made eye contact with them before she headed to one of the fridgerators...searching for something to eat. She found an apple, some cheese and bread, and though her stomache was hankering for something more, she was too desperate to take the time to cook something up. For now, simple sustenance would have to do...
She took a seat off in a corner somewhere, still quite weary of her traveling, though indeed, that wasn't the only thing pulling her spirits down.
