I'm new. My name is Nicole (hollywood_addict). I became interested in Saiyuki during Season 1 (ADV) before Volume 11 came out, and fell in love with the characters (Sanzo is obviously my favorite), but Hakkai is honestly more similar to my persona. I now own Season 1, Reload, and Volume one of Gunlock. I don't know about you, but I felt that Reload had better stories in the Creativity department (not necessarily depth like Season 1), hence, I did enjoy Reload. The kitty episode was my all-time favorite in Reload, I believe the second Volume. It was soo cute!!
My favorite episode in Season 1 is a tie between Vol 3 (Goku's decision to remove his band, that limited his demon powers and fight Kougaji to defend the scorpion-lady-poisoned Sanzo), Vol 9 (the monkey wine drinking episode, because it's funny and Hakkai outdrinks everyone, and I can understand the Japanese the best), Vol 10 (I think the one when Goku asks if Sanzo does really care about anyone), and Vol 12 (the last episode that made me cry)..
Gensomaden Saiyuki made me realize how interested I was in East Asian philosophy and culture, so here I am now, an East Asian Studies double major with Mass Communications! I was pleasantly excited to learn that Zen Buddhism fills Saiyuki often: "When you meet the Buddha kill the Buddha, when you meet your father kill your father, free of everything you are bound by nothing, live the life that was given to you". My interp: When you do not limit yourself with constraints, one can focus on strengthening/concentrating the self by not limiting capabilities and living for yourself (taking charge of your destiny and life). This, I believe was what the samurai were famous for in battle, and made me envious that people could achieve such confidence and pride in life. Season 1, Volume 12 still puzzles me to this day in meaning. Why did Sanzo decide to save the earth rather than the harmony Hamura created? Was this his embrace of life and acceptance of what life was, and knowledge of his abilities that this world/life held for him? What do all of you think?
Also, what do you think of Gunlock so far? I am not sure if I like it, but the bear episode I thought was very cute!! The hyponotism I felt was also creative, but I don't know if I liked it yet or not..

hollywood_addict Also, what do you think of Gunlock so far? I am not sure if I like it, but the bear episode I thought was very cute!! The hyponotism I felt was also creative, but I don't know if I liked it yet or not.. I really enjoyed Gunlock. The episodes gets much better later on. There was one that must have been influenced by the movie Jumanji. rofl When the Sanzo-ikkou were playing some magical board game. It was hilarious. I also liked the ep of Gojyo's little fling with another half-breed.

hello! i'm hakkais! I really like saiyuki among other things! manly yaoi and hentie. i'm older then most but youger then some. i live in my own little world, but that's ok they knowme there. and i found a new saying today!
