Because all they care about is how a person looks or something along those lines. Maybe it's because they can handle a sword or their bad a** personality. I don't know, I'm not a fan girl. *shrugs* I can only make guesses. Perhaps, some are trying to make up for their lack of love life in the real world or maybe I'm going off on a tangent here.
But yeah, self inserts should be kept to yourself and maybe close friends.
Admitantly, I've done a few self-insert fics; however, I'm some nameless background character that shows up for only a few lines or page (at the most).

I once read an essay where an author was talking about 'head stories'...the type you make up in your head when you're young and you've just read a really good book (or when you think you've got a really good idea for a book), but you never share them.
Ups and downs of the internet, I guess. I know I'd rather have to search through reams of badfic to find the goodfic than never be able to find any fic at all.
(Mind you, the person in the essay then went on to show how a lot of manga are really just 'head stories'...and yet they're rejoiced in and celebrated. I dun geddit.)

Some of them may have started out that way, but I doubt they would use their ideas. Maybe they could have expanded on it or made them be more realistic especially the characters. The story I'm working for on my manga (slow process) started out as a dream. The initial concept was a dream, but I slowly expanded upon it.
I'd rather have a site that has good fics than have to wade through bad ones or at least have some sort of filter like those character bars for ff.net.
I don't get that person either.

I'm er... responsible for that term over a year ago. Made it up because I didn't want to keep typing 'people who are willing to get their work beta-ed' every second sentence.

I never heard of the term until I joined the thread. Wow, that was a very long time ago. O.o

Yeah, they've both had their profiles updated since the 20th. The VC is apparently without internet access for the next bit...but I did PM the Captain with a heartfelt plea.

Sankyuu. We, crew, don't know what to do half the time so we're winging it. We need the people who started this. Maybe they'll make one of us VC so we can get some things done around here.
