As for the Cleris glorification... sorry but, to me, that can easily be the pot calling the kettle black.
AC does leave off for Cloud and Tifa very well both as family and/or lovers. Unfortunately, I don't like using the movie to support Cloud and Tifa just as I don't like using the novel to support Cloud and Aeris (or visa versa). Both support each side very well and they are both official... but there is one MAJOR problem with using these things as evidence for either side... fandom influence. (See What do you think of Tifa Lockheart thread for rant.) I think using either weakens arguments more than strengthens.
As for the Highwind scene... I have yet to hear/read "Tifa only slept on his arm". The argument I see on this is actually very valid in that the Highwind scene can and does change based on how the player interacts with the game. In fact... if you are REALLY flat out mean to Tifa she says rather hateful things to Cloud (Learned that from watching my brother play... he HATED Tifa crying ). The Highwind scene CAN be very romantic (So cute! 4laugh ) But it can do the opposite as well. The Highwind really isn't a good argument for either side either.
But I do like the upsurgance of Clifa fanfiction... mostly because it is better written now. Older writers... more mature and in the end funner reading.

Amylin As for the Cleris glorification... sorry but, to me, that can easily be the pot calling the kettle black. Well for me personally I don't over glorify Tifa but I do give her the credit that she so well deserves. I'm willing to admit that Tifa has her flaws and weaknesses. In fact that's one of the things that makes Tifa's character so great (In my opinion). However I have yet to see a Cleris admit any of Aeris's faults and or weeknessis. Also I have yet to see a Clotif supporter write that "Tifa was the most important person in that game and she was Cloud's most important person." I would like to think that Tifa is Cloud's most important person but in all honesty I think that Marleen and Denzel are the most important people to Cloud now. Amylin AC does leave off for Cloud and Tifa very well both as family and/or lovers. Unfortunately, I don't like using the movie to support Cloud and Tifa just as I don't like using the novel to support Cloud and Aeris (or visa versa). (See What do you think of Tifa Lockheart thread for rant.) I think using either weakens arguments more than strengthens. I didn't know you made a rant in there. I'll go check it out. Amylin As for the Highwind scene... I have yet to hear/read "Tifa only slept on his arm". The Highwind scene CAN be very romantic (So cute! 4laugh ) But it can do the opposite as well. The Highwind really isn't a good argument for either side either. I have to disagree with you here. Yes there are two different scenes but the dialog isn't all that much different. In the seen with high Tifa points, Cloud and Tifa seem to be more direct with their feelings, where as the seen with low Tifa points they seem to be rather vague about their feelings. Either way it's played, the general romantic atmosphere still seems to be there. Amylin But I do like the upsurgance of Clifa fanfiction... mostly because it is better written now. Older writers... more mature and in the end funner reading. I agree. The newer Clotif fanfictions seem to get better and better every time I read them.

I'm surprised you have yet to see it... I guess you simply have to converse about the character Aeris without involving the pairing issues. Because I know that when I talk Aeris with friends one of the biggest reasons they like her is because she is the only character in the game the gets angry about things that we the fans get angry about without being and dark, angry, or brooding character in the first place.
As for the Highwind scene... there are three different scenes... not two. One for high affection, one from medium/low affection, and the last one which is RARELY seen because for this one you have to go out of your way to be mean to Tifa (putting her in your group solely to use an optional statement to say something mean then taking her out)... most Tifa haters just simply avoid the character. That when Tifa will be down right mean back.

If you relate Cloud and Tifa's relationship in AC, that 3rd Highwind scene will be pretty irrelevant if it shows her hating him and same with the novel. When it comes to Aeris, me and my friend would talk about her without any pairing issues. She likes Aeris and hates Tifa. I like Tifa and don't like Aeris. (She's really passionate about her hate for her) The things she describes about Aeris---"So pretty! blaugh heart heart heart " "I like her cheery personality." Wait...I think that's it......Not much to say about her.

The point of the rare 3rd scene was not to say that its evidence against Clifa... but I am saying it can't be used as evidence to support either since the Highwind scene is based on the player. That particular scene depends on the individual player. Whatever... it took me four tries to get that scene anyway. I don't want to talk negatively about Tifa anymore. I came to this thread to avoid that. (Yeah... nice job on that. sweatdrop ) As for the Aeris fandom thing... sorry that's been your experience... but that is what happens when your perspective is based firmly with small amounts of people. If you ever do want to hear an Aeris fan talk of Aeris' human side your more than welcome to PM me.

Most Aeris fans aren't open-minded and will bash Tifa just like that which annoys the heck out of me. blaugh Though you're definitely not a Tifa fan, you understand both sides of the story. So maybe the Highwind scene doesn't push Cloti that far, but it does illustrate that they do become closer. (ex. Sleeping on his shoulder) I'm not sure about the 3rd scene.....could you tell how Tifa was mean?

Because I know that when I talk Aeris with friends one of the biggest reasons they like her is because she is the only character in the game the gets angry about things that we the fans get angry about without being and dark, angry, or brooding character in the first place. I'm sorry but I have yet to meet an Aeris lover that can admit Aeris has any faults. Here is one of the mean examples I could give. Me: I thought Aeris was pretty heartless when she told Barret to just forget about it and have fun, after he had just come back from killing his beast friend.Random Aeris lover: She didn't do anything wrong. She was just trying to be nice and cheer him up.I have had this conversation one to many times with Aeris lovers. She was clearly being rude and insensitive but Aeris lovers excuse her because she was supposedly trying to be nice. One she wasn't trying to be nice. If she was, she would have tried to apologise after making Bareet so mad. Two even if she was trying to be nice that still doesnt excuse her for being such a jerk. It's clear to me that in this seen Aeris just wanted to go have her stupid little date with Cloud. Meaning she was being selfish like usual. Opps sorry no more of the Aeris hate sweatdrop Moving on... Anyway the point of this was to show that every time I have talked to an Aeris lover, weather on Gaia or Advent Children.net, it's still generally the same answer. I have yet to see an Aeris lover tell me "Yeah your right that was mean of Aeris to say." Amylin As for the Highwind scene... there are three different scenes... not two. You know what? I'mma shoot it, Aeris is not exactly perfect. There you go... Aeris is a very nice and caring person, albeit she can be somewhat childish at times. One example of this would be when she becomes fangirlish and asks Cait Sith to predict her love life or something to that effect. That's somewhat blind sighted on her part, thought not completely. I cannot remember if she asked for her future with Cloud, or her love life in general. But, that's kind of being kiddy on her part. She is kind of dependant, though. She DOES have her strengthes, but she needs someone to be on her side like Tifa needs someone. It's not really that bad of a weakness, but she seems kind of needy most of the time, andit would be nice to see her take charge in life without it being causing her own death in trying to save the world. That was a LARGE sacrifice, and showed she could make her own descisions in life to help the world, but I felt she could have done so much more if she lived.
I don't know, it's hard for me to find faults in Aeris. Yuffie is a bit easier since she's young and hyperactive, and Tifa is a normal girl with half strength/half weakness, and Aeris is very strong but really weak.

Makes her human, makes Tifa human, makes Yuffie human. Anyone who's just perfectly perfect is a mary-sue , and someone exactly evil just makes you seem strange.
