The Bull Of The North A pretty good read and I agree with pretty much all of it.
Also, I think people tend to underestimate, or I guess in this case overestimate their abilities empty-handed. This is why even, though they're illegal, I know carry around a balisong knife. Weapons, especially knives can be used to deter in the case of a violent confrontation. I find the balisong adds to this simply because its basic mechanics make it intimidating; it's scary to watch someone skillfully whip out a gleaming blade like that. The only reason why I would never carry a knife is because i've known people to have a scrap and if they are receiving a beating they end up pulling the knife and using it on survival instinct. You can end up serving a life sentence even if you didn't mean to kill the guy. You'll do time for getting caught trying a bladed edge weapon, minimum. I prefer blunt edges weapons, just as effective (maybe not on the intimidation factor) but it certainly lowers the fatality factor.

The idea of actually stabbing someone really me puts me off, so I'm confident in my ability to take the beating.
There are dangers to carrying the knife. But most of the time, I find it deters well. I'm walking down the street in a bad area, and someone says something to me, I whip out the balisong and I'd say 95% of the time the person won't want to do anything anymore. But yeah, if the cozzers find you with it, you're screwed.

It's great high-carbon steel, is sharpened to the point where I can shave with it, but it's not too long, and folds into a simple antler handle. I've never had a cop bat an eye towards it, it just looks like a utility knife. However, the quality of steel and the barlowe design would make it deadly in a fight. However, the only time where I've ever had the need and ability to use it legally against a person, I was to wasted to remember I had it on me. So that's the irony of it all. Thankfully I survived the encounter and I don't have to live with the guilt of gutting someone.

Brass knuckles ******** kill, I agree. Getting hit with them hurts like a b***h.I'm referring to it being stupid to carry on you. If I cop searches you for whatever reason and finds brass knuckles, you are going to get fined and they are going to get confiscated. Same goes for switchblades and butterfly knives. Carry a good jackknife on you, if you are going to get into a fight, a large blunt object like a staff, cane or bat is better than a knife anyway, and doesn't share the stigma.
