Mallet players!!! I have just received the coolest mallet ensemble in the entire world! It's called METRIC LIPS and I suggest looking it up and begging your perc director to let you play it. There's a four-mallet vibes part, a xylophone, and marimba 1 and 2. It's absolutely awesome....**drools**

sounds awesome, but if you want a real challenge, then try playing the song called Ride at full tempo on xylophone, it's sooo hard, the time sig changes, the key sig changes, it just goes on and on and on and on like that....

2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 3/4, 7/8, 2/4, 7/8, 2/4, 7/4, 2/4

Ab, F, Ab, etc....

yeah try that one for size

No key changes, but the meter is constantly moving from 3/4 to cut time to 6/8 and back through almost randomly in Metric Lips. So it's probably as difficult, especially because of all the accidentals they employ instead of key changes.

Mm... Section leader is not all it's cracked up to be...for some reason, all drummers are innately opinionated. They don't take to being bossed around lightly, and for the most part, they will not STOP PLAYING unless you grab their sticks and put them in your pocket. Sometimes, that doesn't even work. ...

OMG! That is soooooooo true. I thought my band's drumline was just especially annoying.

I began playing drums in the seventh grade. There was a percussion class, so I joined. I ended up moving schools. Halfway through eigth grade, I moved up to the highest band, and I'm still there today. I'm a ninth grader! Hurray! I'm a rudimental drummer. When I get better, I plan on joining N.A.R.D. No dirty comments people, even though the rudiments sheet says N.A.R.D. examination required. *giggles immaturely* I love playing rudiments, except paradiddles. For some reason, I can't play them as fast as some other ones... Grr... Oh, well. Drums rule, people. They have the most fun! When we were marching in the Daffodil Parade last year, we were dancing around. Can other sections do that? Not in my band, lol. They tried and they just ended up sputtering. Good times, good times.

Hrmm, introduction I s'pose.

I'm in 8th grade. Played in pit for the past two years. First chair in concert band/everything else we do. Begining Highschool next year, obviously, which means I won't be the best anymore. xd But that's ok, then I'll have someone (other than the percussion director) to challenge myself. Heh. Anyway, yeah.

And to, I believe it was, Helter:

As far as creshindoing by going from the rim to center of the drum, that should/can some times be used. It's easier, in some aspects, and it looks nice. xp

-is a freshman- whee

I've been playing the clarinet for about 4-5 years, and I wanted to learn new instruments and branch out and stuff. I decided to try out for the keys since y'know, I can read notes and stuff. xd Anyways, I've been playing for about a few months and today was our first competion. We got second place for Indoor Standstill Small Ensamble. Yay.

The end? sweatdrop

dont let the guard see that...they will yell at you for misusing tape
PostPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2005 4:10 pm

It's not misuse! Sticks need tape.

But anyway. I'm not sure if I'm "qualified" to post here, since I only play marimba during the winterline season, but...

Our show looks like it's gonna be awesome this year. We went to our first show on Saturday, and with half a show (music for 2 songs, drill for 1, out of three total), and no uniforms, we still managed to score a 65! I'm psyched.

I play Marimba... but I'm just learning four mallets in myt spare time right now sweatdrop I'm only a halfie (I also play flute) but I love my marimba... The three octaves is very, very nice 3nodding xd

My music this year is nuts... The guy who wrote it never played it eek It was written on a computer and now we have to break all the rules i was taught crying (ex. we have to start with the left hand at some parts and we have to double stick sweatdrop )

*wanders off to hug her mimba* ((don't ask xp ))

Hey!

That's awesome... I normally play alto sax... But I was pulled into the pit for marching band, so here I am!
Our school has this kick-a** five-octave marimba in the practice room... That thing... is what taught me! ::tear::
Wow... I wish I had my own marimba... Nope, for now I have the mallets my sister took from our school (sort of on accident, and they're cruddy anyways) and my floor, and I'm welcome to go in and practice AFTER school, as long as the percussion ensemble doesn't have practice after school... And jazz band isn't in the band room... And... other times... GAH!

*shrug* I'm not actually a mod right now... Masq demoted me when I disappeared... redface

We're trying to dig our drumline out of the hole we built last year... no motivation. The highest score we got last year was a 57. We got beat by a middle school at Regionals. sweatdrop

This year will not be a repeat, thank .

I went to this awesome day of percussion thing at a college on Thursday. It awesome. *Drools* There were clinics on Marching Percussion, Latin Percussion, and Mallets. I got to 'learn' how to hold four mallets. For an hour. And I already knew. Man, I hated that clinician.

gonk I wish you would come to my school right now. Our A drumline holds auditions for middle schoolers to try out, and I think the person who wrote our music expected a little much... Because they had a few extra four mallet parts, so we had to teach the seventh and eighth graders, and it was just bad news bears.

Anyway, this past marching season our drumline was HUGE. Ten snares, six bass drums, five tenors, five cymbals, and fifteen people in the pit. Thank God we split up into two groups for winter season. We have a World line and an A line. stressed We're too big!
