Kiri frowned slightly, she had known that Alice was unusal but a refugee from the Garden of Eden she had not expected. It was a lot to take in. The garden of Eden was supposed to be paradise but it also didn't sound like the kinda place you just left.
Shaking off such sombre thoughts she smiled at the girl again. It wouldn't do to appear judgemental or impolite, besides regardless of Alice's beginnings, she was Kiri's daughter now and they would work through any problems this presented as they appeared.
"Yes I got your letter. I don't know how many letters you sent out but my house was the one in the old part of Durem, with the park in the centre of the square." She didn't think anyone else with such a house had gotten a letter, she thought Mrs Potts or Simon would have heard if they had.
"My name's Kiri Faeson." She belated commented realising she hadn't introduced herself. "And this is Alice, or at least I'm fairly sure she's a girl and so Alice." She didn't know why she thought the leaf was a girl, it definitely didn't act very girlish but somehow she was sure of it.
"So if you don't mind me asking, how exactly is a leaf going to turn into a little girl and is there anything particuar I need to do to make her comfortable?"

"The time varies, but generally it will go through some sort of metamorphosis. It's gathering strength now, but as long as you keep it watered and sunny it should be fine," said Shouko.
"I've heard of it taking anywhere from a week to over a year for a leaf to manifest as a child," she added. "So don't get worried if nothing happens for a while!"
She remembered that house with the park. "I went there! It was a beautiful neighborhood."

Kiri blinked, that was a pretty big time gap. She didn't think that it would matter much since the nursery would keep but still. Sun and water seemed easy enough, keeping Mrs Potts calm if this took a year might not be quite so easy.
"The house was my grand-uncle's. I inherited it when he died some years back." Kiri said, to explain why she lived in such a grand house.
"Do strange things ever happen around the pot?" Kiri asked cautiously. "It's just strange as it may sound, I think Alice maybe chewing on hers." Since nothing else seemed affected that was the conclusion Kiri had come to, to explain the marks. There weren't many of them and they were rather weak, but definitely there.

"I've heard of worse," shrugged Shouko. Maybe that was a sign of what was inside the leaf?
"I wonder..." she sighed, leaning in to inspect the pot. Sure enough, there were bite marks. A carnivore then.
"Oh, it probably won't take nearly that long. Only a few have."

Worse than eating their pot! She hoped that Alice did nothing worse but wondered what some of the other Edens may have done while potted.
She also wondered what Shouko had been about to say when she trailed off like that but assumed that if it was anything of import the girl would have finished the sentence. The idea that is maybe connected to the plant or animal soul Alice possessed didn't occur to her, it was still taking her a while to properly assimilate that information and would probably take her a while before she started trying to guess.
"I'm glad to hear that, my house keeper, Mrs Potts, is already coming up with all sorts of schemes for her entertainment and residency. She would be very disappointed to have to wait a year." What she didn't say was that she was relieved because she was sure the Mrs Potts would think it Kiri's fault if it took a year and become increasinly sulky the longer it took.

"Well, good luck!" said Shouko, smiling broadly. "Be sure to bring her back once she grows! Things have been a little hectic around here, but once everything settles down I'm sure it'll be easy to find fun things to do around here."
Her eyes flashed as an idea crossed her mind.
"Why don't you go out back and look at our gardens before you leave?"

"That sounds nice." Kiri commented politely. She wanted to see more of the place anyway, although since she didn't look the gardening type she didn't know why Shouko would suggest it. Her clothes were casual and comfortable but she didn't think they made her look like a nature lover. Besides it was winter, what would there to see at this time of the year?
"There have been a lot of new Eden lately then?" Kiri asked trying for a polite way to ask why things might be hectic lately and if she should expect any trouble.

"Yes," nodded Shouko, showing Kiri through the playroom and out the back door. "I'm not sure why, but we seem to come about in bunches. Almost no one comes out of Eden alone."
She shrugged and started down the path that would take them past the azaleas and around the lake.
"It's also been busy because no one had been at headquarters for a very long time until a few months ago. I've been working on getting old utility bills and adoption forms filled out."
"We have a greenhouse over there," she said, pointing to a building rising out of a border of ivy trellises.

Well even with the random growth rates it was good to know that there was a high chance of Alice having other Edens her own age to play with, but she didn't like the idea that the place had been abandoned for a while.
"That sounds like a lot of work for a teen like yourself to take on, are you working on this alone?" Kiri asked cautiously. She didn't want to sound like she was prying or judgemental. In fact she was a impressed, the girl had guts to take on something like this, it was just that she couldn't like the idea that she had felt that she needed to.

"My friend Teagan helps me with the upkeep," said Shouko, smiling. "You'll meet him sometime."
She kept walking, pointing out some tulips as she went.
"I make sure the bills are paid, I give out flowerpots, and I'm here whenever people need questions answered. It's not so hard."

Thinking about the photo gallery she seemed to remember there was a boy about Shouko's age there. She supposed that was Teagan. It was good to know that Shouko wasn't trying to run this place by herself but it still seemed odd that the place was been run by two teenages. Kiri mentally shrugged, since her own sister had run away to join the circus at a much younger age she supposed she wasn't one to judge. Besides, perhaps having one of these strange souls made you grow up quicker.
Looking around, Kiri could see that the gardens were in need of help but were still rather pretty and could probably be brought back to their former glory with a little TLC.
"I'll have to come by again sometime, I hope to meet some of the other parents and Edens next time. I just hope Alice will be able to join me on my next visit." She decided not to ask how a place which didn't seem to have any income could pay bills, she supposed that there was a trust or something.

"You should definitely come back once she grows. I'd love to see her," said Shouko.
"It was nice to meet you," she added as she showed Kiri out of the garden.

Kiri waved goodbye to the pink haired girl, thinking that Eden project seemed to have some mysteries to it but if Alice was as nice and responsible as Shouko seemed to be she would count herself very lucky.

In all his travels of Gaia. Never has he crossed paths with a shop named "The Eden Project". Well at least that’s what the note told him and he guessed it was about due time to make a visit to this so called HQ. Since he did happen upon a leaf that is supposed to turn into a child. This very leaf that he was holding in his arms... that leaf he potted a while back. At least it wasn't moving and twitching... much like some possessed foliage.
Kyo's feet clapped against the cold sidewalk in the early morning. He was an early riser and believed the day shouldn't go to waste on some thing so trivial as sleep. The elf would watch his steps for the most part, but as soon as a soon part of the building complex would pop up, he would glance up and look for a name... until he finally stumbled upon a shop with the name “The Eden Project”.
“That’s strange, I’ve never noticed this shop before,” he shrugged his shoulders and proceeded up the stairway and rested his hand upon the door knob and gave it a jiggle until the door opened. Kyo slowly stuck his head inside first and took in his surrounding then look down at the pot in his arms, “Eh..” the elf muttered as he finally went inside and closed the door behind him and began his search for the one named… Shouko.

Shouko looked up from the files she was organizing when she heard the door open. She watched the man walk in and noted the leaf he was carrying. She also noted his confused expression.
"Can I help you?" she asked, shutting the drawer and getting up. Slowly but surely the new guardians had been filtering through the shop. It made her heart all warm and fuzzy to think about what would come from the leaves they carried.
