Hi, I am new around here. I am currently an engineering student in pursuit of an advanced degree with a background in astrophysics. I still find it interesting, but the non-academic opportunities are limited. Math is pretty fun too, but I'm not that good at it.

Hey. I stumbled upon this guild and thought it would be fun to actually discuss and interesting subject with others. I am not actually taking Physics yet but I am currently self-taught. I want to obtain a Ph.D in Astrophysics a Doctorate/Masters(either is fine) in Theoretical Physics.

Boss Kazuma I want to obtain a Ph.D in Astrophysics I hope you like ubuntu! My nick may be Morbert but my real name is zarckelarghebargh and when I'm not studying nonlinear systems from my thunder mountain lair, I'm hunting for the mythological Quantum field theory lecture notes in Trinity college, Ireland.

Hello all, my name is Tiffany. I am currently a freshman at Boston University majoring in Mathematics and Art History (yes, it's a weird combination, I know). I don't have that much experience in Physics, however, as I prefer math, though that doesn't stop me from discussing random aspects of it at lunch with my friends and basically confusing everyone around us...

I'm Shade and I'm a high school physics student. Though the career I'm pursuing has nothing to do with physics, I'm very interested in it.

I'm Nici and I'm currently a junior at a small, hick town school. I realized I liked science in 4th grade and I enjoyed the short time I spent on simple physics in 7th and 9th grades. Now I'm here to learn as much as I can.

Hello my name is ben and im into the physics of sound, hopefully will be going to school either at Full Saill of the art institute of california. Audio Engineering has fascinated me from the first amp that broke on me and i opened it up to(try) to fix it....anyways feel free to pm me if you want.

Hello all. As the name implies, I am teaching physics in the middle of the U.S. It is currently my third year teaching at university. I usually do the intro classes, because I'm told I have a knack for simplifying things. I still get the occasional graduate course, and I also tend to get the advanced labs since I'm an experimentalist.
I entered college debating whether to go into chemistry or physics, and chemistry turned out to be too smelly. I ended up getting a minor in chem anyway. My PhD was in atomic/ optical physics (read: spectroscopy) with a minor in electrical engineering.

Well, I s'pose I can introduce myself now. Woohoo!
I'm nearing the end of my third year at UVa. I'm a physics and math double major, but I must admit my interests lie more in physics. I've done all the undergrad physics requirements, so I'm cramming the grad physics as best I can.
I've done general relativity (first using Shutz initially and then Carrol's book. Now I just look stuff up in Wheel when something catches my interests), dabbled significantly in Jackson's E&M, have been studying string theory for the past year, have classical mechanics up through Hamilton-Jacobi theory and action angle variables, just finished up the grad quantum series and will be delving into an official course in QFT using Peskin next semester (already had to learn all the basics for string theory and, interestingly enough, the latter fourth of my coursework in the graduate quantum series). I know enough solid state to get by, although I'll admit I lost interest and stopped paying as much attention as I probably should have.
Heretofore, my research has all involved continuum mechanics and everything involving atomic force microscopy, in particular the recently pioneered nanoscale subsurface imaging methodology called resonant difference frequency atomic force ultrasonic microscopy. I grow pretty tired of it though - it takes about a keg of beer to tolerate some of the experiments one can supposedly do with this irritating apparatus. My interests lie in theory and I've recently been contemplating the possibility of unifying the parameters that characterize particles (charge, mass, charm, spin, etc.) as emergent or geometric phenomena - a notion that has led to my recent attempts to understand the nature of mass and spin from a purely geometric perspective.
I'll probably spend most of my time discussing quantum (ranging from applications to interpretations) and general relativity.
At any rate, that's me. I look forward to hanging around! ^_^
Edit: Feel free to call me Sean.

Hey, I'm lightalone. I'm 18 and a second year undergrad. My major is math, but I'm going to do a double major in physics, because it's my true love. I don't really care what my career is in the future as long as it has lots of physics in it.
I got interested in physics by my project to read a little something about everything in the small library at my middle school. I thought "Quantum Chromodynamics" was pretty much the most interesting sounding concept in the world. After that and meeting Brian Greene, I was hooked.
Right now, I work as the physics lab technician setting up labs at a local community college and helping the prof come up with new experiments. The physics program is new here so there's just him and me in the department. I also tutor and do study sessions for the classes.
My favorite apparatus I get to work with is the Van de Graaff electrostatic generator. I don't mind getting shocked at all so the prof lets me do the demos! heart

superstudent3 i am superstudent3. in 10th grade and taking college courses also. Getting a major AND minor in Mathematics. Why are you getting both a major and a minor in the same thing? Isn't the point of a minor to show that you can diversify?
