Hargun turned her head a little when she saw Awen scratching and frowned sympatheticly. "Argh.. I can imagine that would hurt. I mean youre almost literally a fish outta water. Exscuse the lame pun." she said with an embarassed wince.

"Alright, see you too! Nice getting to talk with you again." she replied, smiling back and wandered off as soon as Awen was out of sight.

(( NEW RP ))

Avery had been hiding in his duplex for a few days after his change, not wanting others to see him and generally still feeling sore anyway. Of course, he knew he couldn't hide away forever - and he hated being cooped up for too long, anyway. Even more so now. He decided to head out for a walk and get some fresh air.

He reached for his boots, but hesitated, remembering his new claws. Well. He guessed he would just have to go barefoot, then - that's what the new pads on the bottom of his feet for anyway, right? With a sigh, Avery left his duplex, heading towards the general center area of the village.

Zach slid out of his duplex door and into the boiling tropical heat, carefully locking up before he left. He breathed a few times. Nothing. The allergy medicine he'd finally given in to getting from Delia the other day worked as well as the stuff he'd recently run out of. There hadn't been any unpleasant and unwanted side effects either, to his relief. Living on this island was not easing his paranoia.

After descending the stairs he paused. Unlike most days, when he'd simply gone shirtless, he had a thin white shirt on. It had a couple of tears in the back that he'd forced his peculiar wings through. It was going to get completely sweat soaked if he stayed outside too long. To his dismay, he figured out that the places on him that he'd been growing scales, and the arm, tail, and wings that were completely covered, could not sweat. In exchange, his open skin seemed to work overtime to make up for it.

He'd made it halfway across the village when he spotted a very furry someone. If it hadn't been for the blue streaks in the other guy's hair he may not have recognized Avery at all.

Avery's ears perked up when he heard someone behind him, and he turned around - and instantly froze.

Oh, s**t.

Just the person he wanted to see - the crazy dragon man. Avery felt conflicted - should he run? Would he run fast enough? Surely the doctors wouldn't have let him loose if he was that dangerous, right? And they could just zap him if he tried anything...

Avery relaxed - but only slightly. His body still felt a little tense; he was ready to run for it, just in case.

It was then he realized he'd just been standing there staring the whole time... he figured he should probably say something now that they both have noticed each other.

"Uh... hi." He resisted the urge to call him dragon-breath. No need to provoke him, that's for sure.

Zach didn't know what to say. Even if he had to get used to these changes, seeing the expressions of fear on peoples' faces at the sight of him was haunting. He stared back at the terrified furry Avery with a look that detailed how little he was enjoying the little meeting already. A few alternative courses of action came to mind, but none of them seemed human enough for him to follow through - especially not the odd one that had to do with sticking his ear fins out.

The seconds wore on and he grudgingly had to respond. Even the strong desire to run was fading gradually. He could do this. He just had to make sure there was a nice distance between them, perhaps six feet would work. This was what he got for being turned into an unstable predator, after all.

"Er, hey... it looks like you've... you've changed... I guess..."

"Yeah... just a few days ago, actually. Hurt like a b***h, as usual." Well, this was good. At least there was no biting going on yet. "Looks like you've changed too..."

He couldn't help noticing the small wings on Zach's back. Avery had to admit to himself that he almost looked... well, cool. I mean, how many people could say they were a dragon? Then again, it wasn't so fun when it was forced upon you - and when it was painful.

"So I heard you nearly killed one of the doctors," he blurted out - and then his eyes widened, raising his hand to cover his mouth. He hadn't meant to say that. Out loud, anyway. Avery wished he didn't have such a big mouth sometimes.

"Ouch. You've got painkillers, right? At least you're staying a mammal... shouldn't be any nasty surprises." As bad as it was to think about, there wasn't a whole lot he could do to avoid thinking about what Amaya had said about all the reptile islanders having a very bald fate. He frowned somewhat. "Yeah... it was a while ago though. No idea when it'll happen again. I'd hope never, but... that's just asking for too much out of life."

Avery's ears looked an awful lot like a dog's. He wasn't about to press for what animal Avery was becoming - in the end, it'd probably be quite clear.

The next comment stung. He felt a sort of heat creep into his face, embarassment at the whole ordeal. How had AVERY found that out? Zach had only told two people, and neither of them had already heard about it. He wanted to believe Kaveri, that it was nothing but a trick, but... either way, this was a pretty harsh rumor. "And, ah... who told you that?"

PostPosted: Wed Jun 07, 2006 6:19 pm

"Yeah, I got some... they didn't help much, though," Avery frowned. Maybe Dr. Frost didn't give him strong enough medicine? He would just have to ask for a stronger dosage the next time he saw her. His ears pressed back against his head when Zach said he hoped it would never happen again.

"I wish it wouldn't happen again, either. It's... scary. And I'm not so sure about there not being any nasty surprises just because I'm a mammal - Awen told me about this guy, Pyroth; he's turning into a canine, too. But it looks like he won't be able to walk on two legs anymore, soon enough..." Avery had been reassured, at least, that Tim wouldn't leave him if that happened - but the thought still terrified him.

"Sorry," he mumbled. "I didn't mean to bring that up... Chubbs told me about it." Avery glanced around, as if he might be able to spot the cameras, and he moved in a little closer to Zach, leaning in. "Not that I feel bad for the lab tech, though," he told him quietly.

"Well... you should mostly stop hurting in about a week..." He crossed his arms. "And I suppose you've got a while yet before they do this again... all the people that look really animal-like have been here for almost a year."

"Pyroth? Oh god, he did look halfway to being on four legs the last time I saw him... is that what they have planned for all of us? Just turn us completely into animals?"

"Chubbs?" he asked. He didn't know anyone on the island by that name. At least the embarassment was dying down. "Well... it's just... I don't really want to talk about it..." He was tempted to say he didn't feel a whole lot of remorse himself, but he was probably being watched, and any excuse to kill him would probably work for the doctors. All he could do was give Avery a nervous glance.

PostPosted: Wed Jun 07, 2006 7:22 pm

"You've seen Pyroth, then? I've never actually met him yet... Do you think they'll really do that to us? At least you're a dragon... so you might end up still able to walk, who knows?" Avery shrugged. Dragons weren't exactly real creatures, but dogs? They definitely walked on all fours.

Avery noticed he seemed nervous about the subject, so he decided to drop it. "So... uh... this is an improvement, I think! You haven't tried to attack me yet," he laughed, nervously. Maybe the other times were just flukes?

"Yeah, but it was a really long time ago, had to have been at least a couple of months... maybe they've, uh, fixed the problem or something? I haven't heard of anyone else ending up like that." He shifted uneasily. There wasn't a whole lot you could expect when becoming a fantasy creature. The wings he had guessed, but the everything from the color of his scales to the beginnings of spikes on his back and tail were all a very big surprise. "I... don't know. Right now I'm just not getting near my intercom. You can probably ask, though. I'll just enjoy this whole two-legged existence for as long as I can."

"No, and I never wanted to." He half-closed his eyes. "We both got unlucky. Apparently this whole 'dragon' thing isn't quite as perfect as it was intended to be. Whenever I change..." He shrugged, holding his palms upward. "I'm sure you get the idea. That's been the story with everyone I've met in the days after my changes - even with Dr. Lockheart."

PostPosted: Thu Jun 08, 2006 4:01 pm

"Yeah... I'll probably just ask, then," Avery said, rubbing his arm. He felt nervous about asking, though - nervous about what the answer would be. He wasn't sure if he would prefer to be surprised or not.

"Well, I'm glad it was nothing personal," he offered the dragon man a smile. "Maybe we can start over, then, and be friends?"

... and that was when he noticed Zach had held out two hands, not just one. "Zach... your arm... it grew back!?" Avery certainly didn't remember him having two arms, at least. He noticed it was completely scaled, unlike Zach's other arm. It must have happened the last time he transformed.

"Good luck with that..." he nodded.

"Oh, uh, sure..." he nodded, his expression still somewhat veiled thanks to his eyes. Friends? He just couldn't feel a lot of desire to be around islanders sometimes. Kaveri was probably the only exception to that.

The sudden realization by Avery made him squirm a little inside. "Looks like it, doesn't it?" he frowned, crossing his right arm over the left and feeling scales brush against his diminishing human skin. If he hadn't had an arm there ten years ago, he would not have been able to use this one as well as he was managing now. Certainly he was clumsy with it, but the wings and tail gave him a much harder time. "I'm... not sure if I should be happy about it. The arm thing."

PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 5:39 pm

Avery couldn't understand why Zach wasn't more enthusiastic about his arm growing back. Other than the fact that it was covered in scales, that is. Even so, Avery felt that if he were in Zach's place, he would feel that he had at least one thing to be grateful for. "But.. why not? I mean... you have your arm back! I guess it is covered in scales now, but still - you got your arm back. How could that be a bad thing?"

The New Oldbie

[ New RP ]

Sighing, I pulled out my sketchbook once again with the intention of drawing anything that moved. Drawing was my main activiy these days. I'd been on this island for a few weeks now, but I still didn't have many friends...
Never mind that now. I came here to draw animals, and animals I will draw. Don't think about how lonely I am, don't worry about whether anyone here will like me, don't wonderwhat animal you're sure to slowly, painfully change into...
I sighed heavily and looked around for something to focus on. Drawing animals, drawing animals... Say, where are the animals?
