Easter realized what she was doing with her hand and stared at it sadly. She wasn't her mother. She only knew the motions. The small boy's hand clasped onto hers and she looked into his sympathetic looking eyes.

The rumbles in her stomach caught up with her again. "I don't suppose you're hungry too, are you?" The boy blinked. "Is that a no? Or a yes?" Unbelting her chest pocket she pulled out two small balls of bread. Sighing inwardly she popped one into her mouth and handed another to the infant. She tried to savor the bit of food but it disolved far too quickly. "There isn't much else to eat. So we may have to head out...."

The child wasn't looking forward to having to carry the boy all around Kensington, but there didn't seem to be any other option. "Okay, you...." Easter's brow furrowed, she'd have to find something to call him. She couldn't remember what Igor had called him. Something with a 'B' wasn't it? Whatever it was she'd have to change it to something she'd remember.

Standing up, her arms tugged on the burnt bookshelf that had fallen over during the fire. Underneath it was a small strip of removeable wood. Reaching down into it Easter procured a dusty book. She blew all over it to clean it off and opened it up on her bed. Her favorite story was in the back of the book. The one that was all about the man with the zoo of astounding creatures from every corner of the world.

"'As he did every morning, Mr. Egan strolled amongst his large collection of birds. Some stood as tall as a house, while others were small enough that they could hardly be seen. Still there were those who's colors rivaled that of a rainbow.'" Easter looked into the eyes of the boy in front of her. "I've always loved the tale of Mr. Egan's Zoo. So, I think that's the perfect name for me to call you. But, not the 'Mr.' part." She wasn't sure what she'd get in response. A faint smile seemed to come to the boy's face and she smiled slightly back. "Egan it is."

"Ah! Thallasar! There you are." A baker emerged from the tarp under which he was sitting, his wrinkled smile sagging bitterly. "I thought you had disappeared on me."
Rubido stared up at the gray sky and took off his feathered hat, running a hand through his short hair before replying. He grinned. "Now Sir, I wouldn't do that. I always finish a job once I start one. And besides..." Rubido lowered his voice, his eyes sparkling like those of an eager child. "You are paying me very well. I don't know how long it's been since I had fresh bread."

The aged man looked a little askance, but there was laughter in his voice as he spoke. "I expect good work for it. Now, if you would, Gentleman...?"

Without further prompting, Rubido exchanged his awkward hat for a handful of nails and a makeshift hammer- he had dealt with the man once before, and trusted him not to run off with the garment. For the bread, he had agreed to convert a small, half-rotten cart to a somewhat-stable food stand. "Perishable" wares, he was told, were much better sold by stand than dusty blankets. As drizzle misted his progress, Rubido crouched near the newly prepared boards and set to work.

((I have absolutly no clue if you want Emi to continue to follow you or not...))

Emi walked past the man that she had sort of followed and went on ahead, she walked to a small shop ahead, taking the small black book out of her pocket as she walked to the shop owner. Once she approached the shop owner she smiled and placed the book infront of him and talked to him for a moment and started to point around as if she was giving him directions.

With that Emi smiled once more, bowed kindly, spun a little to change how she was facing and took a step or two when the shop owner stopped her, she looked around and took the small brown bag that the man gave her. she then peeked in the bag and once more, smiled and chuckled. Thanking the shop owner once again she left the store and walk back the same path towards the bakery, looking in the bag and poking what was in it.

Dr. Oddssen's frown deepened and he let out a strained sigh, "Perhaps the woman is batty... I've dealt with enough of them in my time." He said, somewhat bitterly as he slipped the card back into his pocket. The very tips of his fingers lingered on the pocket, before his blinked a thought away and returned his hand to his side.

"Whatever these cards are, and whoever that Fortune Teller is," The Doctor said, "I'm unsettled by the fact she gave us cards based upon ourselves and spoke of such hopeful things as destiny."

"Feel like your card suites you? ...That pun was intentional, by the way. Sorry. Err, right, well, I kind of feel that way about mine. Like it was the right one. Guess she's got a knack for it, doesn't she?"

The scenery rolled by without incident, making for a thankfully uneventful morning. The Courtyard gradually turned to buildings and scattered gaggles of kids. Larry stepped ahead a fraction, leading a steady course.

"Okay, here's the deal. I'm looking for a kid, a key, and...well, a kid and a key anyway." He waved his last objective aside for now. There was quite enough mysticism for the morning. "The kid comes first...I've got his description in my notebook, along with a picture...but I've been working on him since early yesterday and I think I can get that settled. Well, I mean, I don't want to be cocky or anything, I just got lucky. Someone pointed me in the right direction. We're heading to that building over there...the one with the wagon wheel out in front. I just need to ask a few questions. Is that alright?"

The Doctor was quiet, his eyes downcast as he thought it over in his head. Did his card match him? He didnt want to ponder that subject too long, for he feared he would find an answer he regretted. "A child and a key? Curious." He said, keeping his mind away from the Tarot cards for the moment. It was better to dwell on such things in privacy.

"I'll try not to draw attention to myself," he said, a bit of a sarcastic jest to his voice that he found hard to mask. Oddssen squared his shoulders and tried to look smaller and less noticeable, his eyes cast down at Larry's peculiar shoes.

He looked so small. Kismet hadn't been around anyone younger than the age of fifteen in some time, and was completely out of her element with newborns. Surely a few of the ladies had given birth, but most of their children had either died from malnutrition, or been given away to people who might be able to provide for them better. Would she be able to save this one from a similar fate?

She had to.

"Thank you," she said breathlessly, reaching out. "Is... is there anything else, sir Igor?"

"Hmm?" he replied, looking up from a document at Kismet. "Oh, yes... Well, my dear, everything from now on is up to you. But, you should be aware that--" pausing, he lay the paper in his lap, his eyes meeting her's, "this child is not a mere human. As he grows, great things will manifest within him, sometimes terrifying things. Whether he serves your purpose or is turned loose to wreak havoc on the city, that is your decision."

As he returned to the paper he was reading before, he said with a smile, "We will be here when you need us. Search for us with your heart once more and we will come for you."

Yami saw her sister latch onto her arm as her lips widened into a soft smile. She drew her attention to the outside once again and the possible roads they could choose. "Where to Hikari?" she asked.

Annie had been following the pair for some time, stopping now and again to make it seem as though she hadn't. It was hard going, what with a cane and all, but nevertheless, Annie was curious. It was plain that the girls were siblings, and as such...well, they looked intelligent enough. But in this time, and this place, it was unlikely that two sane people wouldn't have noticed what had gone wrong. Annie sighed and stared at the apple in her hand. It would be so easy to simply walk away with the fruit, but her bleeding heart was gushing in a most unseeming manner, and Annie had to oblige it.

She was disgusted with herself.

"I suppose it's just as well." She remarked as the couple came back into view. "I should just nick some food off of one of the carts on my way back." She hefted her bag over her shoulder and peered at the girls again. They seemed to be stopping. That was nice, it meant that Annie didn't have to go chasing them around with her crippled leg. She shook her head, taking the moment to admire her newly-purpled hair - she had dyed it the night before with some purple berries she found that morning, apparently they were poisonous and it was too bad about the cat, really - and waved the apple above her head. "Hello? You seem to have dropped this on your way out." There. That wasn't that bad. Hopefully she could get away before they tried to engage her in conversation.

"Aw, I didn't mean it like that. I was just worried you might be getting bored or something. I only commissioned you for the walk, so I didn't know if you were still up for running errands. Not that I mean I wouldn't like to have you along. I mean...oh, cripes, you know what I mean."

Larry had made his way to the door in the meantime, and rapped the face absently, still addressing the Doctor.

"And yeah, a kid and a key. And the weird thing- MRS. Burgenson! How are you this morning! Oh, no, you don't know me...the name's Larry. Someone had recommended...yes, yes, quite. Allow me to introduce my associate-err, well, of course he talks. I mean, he can introduce himself if he wants to..."

Mrs. Burgenson was a small, bony woman with a face that looked as if it'd been smeared about in flour. She had a prominent, dark mole that quivered ominously on her chin, and her gray hair was plastered into a sticky bun. She looked at Larry with what appeared to be a very permanent scowl, and had a tendency to interrupt Larry with sharp, jabbing questions.

The Doctor nodded, but couldn't quite get a word in before the door was answered. He lowered his hat, so the brim shaded his eyes and upper face sufficiently, and towered above the animated Larry as he spoke to Mrs. Burgenson.

"Do.. Doctor Severin Oddssen, miss." Sev said, a tad uncertainly. He didn't want to use a false name, nor did he want to use his true one, so he just said what came to his mind first. It happened to be his true name, perhaps he could leave off the Doctor at other times?

Mrs. Burgenson looked along the end of her hawkish nose, neck craning back to stare at the Doctor disapprovingly.

"What are you doing here?"

Larry answered quickly, through a winning smile.

"We're looking for a Henry Forrester-"

"Why? Is he in trouble? He owe you money?"
She gave the Doctor another sidelong glance, relaying the words in unpleasant snaps.

"...Yes?" Larry replied, looking increasingly confused.

Mrs. Burgenson's facial expression changed to something very much like glee. "Oh, does he? Well, I'd be happy to direct you to him. He's a maggot of a man." She looked at the Doctor again, then hissed, "He needs some roughing up. It's about time."

"The...ah...would you happen to have his address?"
Larry took out his notebook with an easy motion, and then fished around in his pants until he found a working pen.

"He lives in this district, in the Southeastern corner, to the right of a building with bright red shutters. The street number is 12732, you'll know it when you-"

"Mother!" A pretty voice interrupted. "Who's at the door?"

Mrs. Burgenson slammed the door abruptly and there was a faint, "No one, no one." From inside. Larry stood, clearly baffled, then put away his notebook slowly. "Errr. I think that was the girl's mother." ...Larry was an exceptional detective.

The Doctor shuffled his feet awkwardly, unconcsciously biting his lower lip hard to try and control his peculiar quirks. As a result, he couldn't speak as he feared letting himself do so, he wanted to appear normal in the presence of others, and he was finding it increaisngly difficult to do so.

Severin blinked at the woman, and tried to ignore the pointed stares she kept giving him. When she mentioned 'roughing up' the man they were looking for, he coughed awkwardly, but kept his silence until she had closed to door.

"Yes... That would be the mother of the younger voice," Sev said, frowning a little and glancing over to Larry. "Interesting how eager she was to reveal the man's whereabouts."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 27, 2006 1:04 pm

"Well, no, I mean, obviously that was the Mother. It couldn't have been Ms. Burgenson. That's who I was really trying to get a hold of, Belinda Burgenson. She's Mr. Forrester's...well, girlfriend, I guess. But either way, we got the address, so things turned out okay!"

Larry was down the steps and off the doorstoop in a few energetic hops. He winked at the Doctor and grinned.

"The mother's not too keen on the relationship, I gather. ...Do you have the time? I lost track."

"I.. would have to agree, that mother didn't seem all to pleasant herself." The Doctor said, a bit of humor seeping into his soft voice. At the question of time, he glanced up to the sun, but couldn't quite find it through the clouds and soft drizzle that still came down. [i/]"I'm not sure of the time, quite sorry."

Dr. Severin stretched, his shoulders and neck aching him from spending the entire morning trying to appear smaller than he truly was. At his full height he stodd at an impressive six feet and seven inches, the tallest of his entire family. "Do you have somewhere you need to be? I am quite sure I should be heading off, soon myself." He said, his mind wandering to the dg on the slab in his warehouse and the readied knives eager to work.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 27, 2006 1:24 pm

"Yeah, kinda. ...I don't think I'm going to have enough time to stop by Forrester's place, so now might be a good time to wrap up. ...As I was trying to say earlier, it's a real weird case. I need to find the kid first because he actually swallowed the key. The guy who owns the key is the one who got me this far. He's very worried about it. The key, that is. I also have to hurry, because, you know, if I wait too long the kid's probably not going to have the key anymore, and that's some searching I'd just rather not do."

Larry hesitated, then stuck out his hand.

"It was nice meeting you, Doc. Did you...uh...maybe want to meet up again sometime? Wouldn't want to leave you dangling on the case's exciting conclusion."

Severin clasped Larry's hand and shook it, and hint of a grin twitching at his lips. His head tilted to the side and he pursed his lips in thought, "I must admit, both you and the case both intrigue me." He said honestly, the purse of his lips fading into a smile smoothly. "It would be enjoyable to meet again, perhaps discuss the outcome of the case."

The Doctor returned his hand to his side, and was reminded of the cards. "We also need to find out a little more of these peculiar cards that woman is passing out.." He frowned a bit. "where shall we meet again?"
