"Okay, I'll catch ya later. And lemme know if you can get a game started... I think I better stay here and bask for a little longer." Amaya gave a smile and a nod in his direction. "I'll see ya."

Alec nodded again, getting up from the floor. "Ye, sure." He waved shortly and left in the direction of the caf, not thinking twice about trusting Amaya to at least shut his door after she left.

Fencing, Football, and Video Games

The muffed sound of blips, chimes and overall noise could be heard from outside the entertainment room even without stepping a foot inside. The volume cranked high, the irish punk teen was enjoying the ear-bleeding noise of the brain-numbing videogame he was apparently enthrawled in- so much so, that he'd spent most of the day inside the nicely air-conditioned complex with little concern for anything else.

A messy platfeul of spaghetti lay beside half-eaten sandwiches and bowls of various snack items, having somewhat stocked up on edibles before settling into his seat on the floor infront of the tv screen. With a half-burnt cig hanging from his teeth, Alec was hooked.
[

Ambrose, meanwhile, was on cloud nine. Things had been going remarkably well for the wolfman as of late, and only promised to be doing even better soon. He hoped.

After coming back from the labs and his visit with Aubrey, Ambrose swung by the cafeteria. Seeing no one there and feeling social (but not ready to see Angelina again just yet - he was scared he'd blab about his plans), he grabbed a tray of food - a couple of hamburgers and a steak, and poked around the other rooms of the town hall complex.

He heard the noise from the entertainment room as soon as he stepped outside. His tail wagging socially, he stepped around to the side of the building and poked his head in.

THe mohawk that crested the couch was unmistakable. It was the kid that he had met briefly at the beach bar who had been dared to eat the cigarette... he couldn't remember his name, but he had an interesting accent.

"Hey, do you mind company?" Ambrose said loudly over the video game.

Alec didn't even look away from the screen as he heard the voice call over the digital melody that portrayed his victory of the fourth level of the game. "NEEEEH!" He yelled back, realizing just then how loud the room was by how much he had to strain his vocal chords to drown it out. Grabbing the remote that sat nearby, he flicked it until the volume was at a reasonably noisy level.

He took the opportunity of the break to glance over his shoulder at who had arrived, the smell of cooked meat being a lure for his attention. Spotting the wolfman, he narrowed his eyes and thought hard. So familiar. A little shaggier than what he'd remembered, but the features were oddly unmistakeable. He snapped his fingers a few times, racking his brain for a name.

"Ambrose." He stated plainly, pointing to the caninesque man before turning back for his controller.

"Excellent, thanks!" He responded, careful to not get between the teen and the television, and then plopped down on the couch next to him with a smile.

"You remember!" He responded with a thump of his tail. "And you're... uhrm... " His ears drooped. "Ah... I ran into you with Amaya... and at the beach bar get together..." He tapped his nails on the tray, sheepishly.

"I'm so sorry, I've run into so many people recently." HE tried to divert the attention away from his faulty memory. "What are you playing?"

Alec didn't seem to care much that he was easily forgotten. Something that small and insignificant wouldn't upset such a laid back guy as himself. "Alec." He answered without any hint of disdain whatsoever, understanding the dilemma of just how many people were actually in that place.

"Sou' Calibeh." He said with a bit of a laugh that exposed much of a his sharp teeth, just as his character was absolutely mauled by the computer AI. "Aaan' apparenly 'am no' tha' good at i'." He shook his head and waited for the next round to load. "Y'wanna play?" He glanced over and offered a controller, though his eyes seemed distracted by Ambrose's looks. He apparently hadn't realized just how wolf-like the man had become though it was possible he'd just forgotten about it since their brief meetings in the past.

Ambrose snapped his fingers and shook his finger. "Alec! That's right. I'm sorry, I used to be rather good with names, but so many new people have arrived. I do remember you, don't get me wrong, just not your name..."

He took a big bite out of his hamburger, and then did a doubletake as Alec flashed him a jagged grin. "Whoa!" Ambrose looked up, his ears pricked. "I'm sorry... I hadn't noticed... you've been through your first change?" Fortunately, at least, his couch companion didn't seem too phased - so either it wasn't very recent, or it didn't bother him.

"Soul Calibre? Sure! I think I tried it once with Awen. I'm not nearly as good as she is, but I think I'm decent." HE picked up the other controller. "And at least I should be less harsh than the computer companion." He grinned teasingly.

Alec gladly handed over the controller, happy to have a partner to play with for once. He rememebered Awen, the aquatic-looking beor. She'd offered to play too, but he hadn't seen her since that one time where he helped her with the tv. "Heh, maybeh a'll kick ye a** a few times then."

He smiled again, but not so broad this time. The wolf-man's sudden reaction reminded him of Emelyn, and although he'd received the same look a few times before by random people, it seems he hadn't grown accustomed to it yet. "Ye, a' lil' while ago." The teen calmly answered, looking back to the tv screen so that he could set up the specs for a 2-player game. "A' guess none of us are safe, eh?" He tried to laugh off the subject that was obviously not very humorous and he soon reverted to the tactic of shifting the spotlight. "Ye lookin a lil mo' furreh since a saw ye last too?"

Ambrose took the controller, looking over the buttons briefly to familiarize himself before "start-ing" in and picking a character. With a grin, he selected Raphael, the fencer. "I like this character." He added with an inane, wolfish grin. "And we'll see. I've played it a few times... though likely not as much as you have. But give me a real sword and we'll see who does the a** kicking."

He nodded, his voice becoming more serious on the subject of the transformations as well. "We all like to try to delude ourselves, at least for a time, that maybe it won't happen to us... or it will stop before it gets too bad.... and ever time... eventually it happens. But I don't know if it would be worse the opposite. Angelina, she's been here over six months now... she hasn't changed yet. There were... problems. She got sick for a time and had to go to the labs. We... we've been on pins and needles for so long now... waiting.... you don't want to get too comfortable that it won't happen... because they say it will..." HE trailed off with a shake of his head. "I'm sorry, so much for light conversation, eh?"

"Ye, is ekay" Alec sighed, though he wasn't upset by the conversation in the least. "Is hard not teh talk 'bout i' all th'time, a mean wha' else goes on in this place?" He chuckled again, hinting at the incessant boredom that had been nagging at him for a few days now. He didn't recognize the name that Ambrose mentioned but listened attentively regardless. He almost let the subject drop until he quickly added to it. "A' di'n't even know pehple go' sick from i', yanno? 'Til a met... Julian. N' stoof."

Smirking, Alec chose the crazy Voldo. It was never a dull moment when he played with that guy. "A' real 'un? Ye know 'ow t'do theh... " The young islander quickly passed into another topic of conversation, making a jabbing motion with his free hand to signify the art of swordplay that he couldn't quite put into words properly.

Ambrose winced at the mention of Julian. "Yeah..... he's my ah.. 'upstairs roommate'... I haven't seen him in quite a while now, but last I saw him he was having some severe... issues. Going crazy - thought he was the cheshire cat, some sort of honest to god multiple personality disorder. But I met him first before he started to change - he alwas seemed very... borderline to me. If you ask my opinion, I think the people going crazy from this are the people that had issues to begin with. Angelina was more of a physical sicknes. Not that I'm saying that's GOOD, but I honestly think it's better than going crazy and losing yourself."

Ambrose smirked at the teen's choice. "And yup! I used to be a fencer. Well, still am I suppose. I did all sorts of competitions. I was even ranked in the nation with an epee. I... well... I was hoping to make it to the olympics someday." He said with a nostalgic tone. "It's too bad that no one else really does epee fighting. Greer knows how to use a sabre, but the styles are so different, and it's been ages since I've seen her. She's so avian now, I don't even know if she could adapt well to the fencing." He grinned at the teen, his tail thumping on the couch. "I can show you sometime if you like?"

Alec chuckled again, recalling the 'conversation' he'd had with the disturbed young boy in the jungle. "Yea, a' 'ad th'pleasuh o' meetin' 'im durin' tha' whole mess wi' th'staff ladeh. Heh... both o' 'em." He almost made a comment about how horrible it must be, waiting on a 'death sentence' of sorts before he realized he was probably in the same boat.

It was a little difficult keeping up with the conversation when Ambrose went into detail of mentioning countless names that weren't familiar but he did his best. The fact he couldn't recognize any of the aforementioned islanders only served to remind him that there were many more people he hadn't run into yet.

"Heh... ye! Maybeh you c'n teach me a bi'?" Swordfighting lessons? Sign him up.

Ambrose nodded slowly, and commenced to attempt to kick Valdo's a** with the quick rapier strikes of Raphael. Ambrose mused that perhaps, were he actually there with a rapier as opposed to trying to hazard guesses of how triangle and square-buttons equivaleted to various fencing techniques, he might stand a much better chance, ironically.
Then again that Voldo character appeared to be crazy, and consequently difficult to read.

Ambrose's overanalysis left him very open to much pummeling.

He looked away from the game to give Alec his own toothy grin. "I'd love to! I was teaching Amaya for a while, but after the lockout things kind of got pushed aside. Maybe I can train the two of you together. It's better to have someone to learn with that you can spar. But I know she's self-conscious about the changes that have happened to her feet and hands.... but I bet she could still manage. I actually surprisingly started to learn a bit of soccer... er... football as you probably call it too. There's a new islander, Thom - apparently he played professionally. I've entertained the notion of trying to get a league started up. I'm sure there are enough of us that would be interested."

Alec commenced the difficult-to-master, smashing-of-the-buttons technique in hopes of evading Ambrose's character and somehow pull off some good moves at the same time. Admittedly, it was hard to tell if it was working or not.

"Heh, tha'd be fun." He laughed, not being able to imagine Amaya ever weilding a sharp weapon in her life. "Ye, she's all upse' all th'time. A' keep tellin heh tha' she c'n do whateveh.." The punk teen trailed off as he focused on the game for a moment, frowning furiously in concentration and somewhat forgetting his train of thought in the process. "Ask heh if she's up teh i' though, am fair game fo' i'."

At the mention of football however, Alec lost all concentration on the match. Amazed that the subject he had just been chatting about not too long ago came up, he excitedly smacked the wolf-man's shoulder. "FOO'BALL!" After the exclaimation was out of his system, he continued. "A' was thinkin of findin soom blokes t'play wi', a know Thom would. Ye!" Finally, finally something to get excited about.

Ambrose stuck his tongue out in concentration as the match got heated. His own technique of trying to learn what each of the buttons actually did to calculate attacks not doing so well when he was a novice at the game - especially in response to the furious button-mashing that was coming at him - quick, unpredictable moves seemed to be draining poor Raphael's health bar rapidly.

"I'm really sorry to hear that... Amaya's been so quiet every time I've seen her recently. I feel bad for her - I wish there were something I could do... but I don't even really know the problem. she always used to be so happy - a ray of sunshine in this place. But yeah, I'd be happy to teach you or both of you. I've even got a few extra sets of equipment that the labs gave me."

With the smack on his shoulder, Ambrose nearly dropped the controller, and looked surprised at Alec, at first thinking that he had said something wrong, before he realied it was his exuberance. His ears pricked back up - he as well had been looking for something to do as a group - something to get excited about and stir his competitive nature. "That's wonderful! WE should put up fliers, try to get a big group. Make teams, and start having matches! I miss competing in fencing SO badly... and as much as I love the combative sports... I'll take what I can get - and I think more people would be generally interested by soc - er- football than fencing, anyway. I bet Angelina would play, too. Though, ah, I don't know if it's her thing. And I could see a lot of the other Islanders doing really well!"

Guessing by how much Ambrose mentioned this 'Angelina', he figured she meant a little to the shaggy man besides him. That was fine, everyone needed someone sometimes. Wasn't there... a song or something that went like that?

Oh right, the game.

With the many buttons being struck at once, it was amazing that Alec was able to pinpoint a particularly good combination by chance and therefore performed it a few times to finish off the weakened Raphael. "HA!" He smirked in triumph, turning back to Ambrose. "Ye, fliehs." The teen nodded, admiring the good idea and regretting the work at the same time. He wasn't exactly good at grammar. Any literate signs that came out of him would be a fluke, though he could already imagine some other islanders that could possibly be star players in their makeshift league.

"Awwww." Ambrose chimed in a response as he got pummeled, before redoubling his efforts.

"OR at least something on the door to the cafeteria, as almost everyone goes there at least once a day. I'll see about what I can do. Maybe set a time - talk to Thom- where we could meet up and all talk about it." His tail was thumping again, brushing against Alec's leg as it did.

"This should be great! I'm actually looking forward to this. I wonder what the teams will be like. I bet even Colche could have fun with something like this - and she's a Cheetah for God's sake, she'd be great once she learns the rules."

Alec looked distractedly away from the screen as Ambrose's tail touched him though it only amused him. It reminded him of this old, shaggy dog he used to play with down the street back in that place he'd once lived in. "Ye, an' 'round the duplexes?" He wiped furiously at his chin when he noticed he'd accidently spit with the last syllables of his sentence, inwardly cursing his teeth again and again for failing to enunciate the words properly.

With the mention of a cheetah, Alec started to laugh without even knowing who he was talking about. "Damn, she'd kick our fookin arses. Shou' be fun!" He definetly was looking forwards to this, both relieved and excited that he'd found someone just as adament about getting somesort of activity going on as he had been. He was about to break into another related though until he realized the rapid snacking he had been doing had depleted his food stash. "Aw, man." He groaned and flicked at the few crumbs that were left before glancing up at the screen. "A betteh clean up a bi', this ain't me room! Besides, ma arse'is hurtin from sittin 'ere so long."

Ambrose nodded enthusiastically. He bet Colche woudl love it - she loved interacting with people, and was a quick learner when people had the patience to teach her things. A game like that she would probably love.

"Yeah - that would be great. I'll try to talk with Thom and set up a time. I'll post the fliers!"

Ambrose nodded to Alec as he got up to get more food. His own food was mostly neglected sitting off to the side of the couch - he had gotten caught up in the activity that required both of his hands. Turning off the game, he sat back to finish eating.

"Great seeing you again - and I'll try to keep ya posted on the league!"

Alec nodded to him as he sloppily gathered up all his dirty dishes to return to the caf. "Ye, thanks mate. A'll see ye 'round aye." He gave a short wave and left Ambrose to his meal, figuring he'd need at least 10 hours sleep to compensate for how much he'd fried his brain on videogaming all day. Shrugging it off, the mohawked kid left the room whistling.

The Life Aquatic

After his chat with Ambrose, Alec figured the wolf-man would have everything under control having to do with gathering together some sports enthusiasts on the island. The teen didn't think to offer any more help, assuming he'd be of any use at all in the first place. Instead, the punk teen decided he'd take it easy for awhile and maybe go for a swim at the lake to cool off from the muggy heat of the jungle.

As he approached the edge of the body of water, he slipped off his shirt and tossed it aside while taking a good look around. Last time he'd been there he'd met a very skittish Emelyn, hopefully this time he wouldn't run into anyone at all. He just didn't feel up to it.

The teen sat down and slid his legs into the water as he'd done before, getting accustomed to the temperature before taking the plunge.

Shortly after Alec's dip into the pool Awen came down the path. Everything hurt. She had rested in her duplex for the majority of the day, sitting in her tank trying to ease her pain. The incesent filter and the ceiling was begining to annoy her though. She'd been seeing the same thing for the passed week and especially after the change she felt restless.

When she first had tried to put her foot on solid ground it was a definate mistake. Her fin-feet were still too fragile to walk on. She finally figured that she could walk on the heel of her foot without too much pain and left her duplex soon after.

Seeing the lake she smiled. The manta was definately looking forward to not just sitting in the water but being able to move around and glide gracefully around. If her new webbing-wings would allow it anyway. They may end up jsut floating near the bottom and watching the fish....

Just as she got close ehough to the lake her foot got entangled on something unexpected on the ground. She shrieked as even the soft material of Alec's shirt stung her thin toes and fin. Everything jsut got worse as Awen tumbled to the ground, and landed only inches from the waters edge. The air was forced from her lungs at once and she coughed. She gasped for air and by all means she looked like a beached sea creature...

Alec had just finished dunking his head underwater to wet his skin when he heard a loud shriek. As high pitched as it was, the sound echoed feircely around the quiet lake to startle him and cause him to snap his head around to look. What he saw confused him at first, his eyesight seemed to fail him at pinpointing just what that sprawled out, bluish mass was near the shore even though he wasn't that far out.

It was impossible it was an animal, it had to have been an islander. "Ah... 'ey y'ekay there?" He called out hesitantly but with concern, wading over until he was within feet.

Awen looked up quickly when she was spoken to. She coughed and tried to push herself up, but her lungs didn't quite want to kick in properly. She had always hated the feeling of not being able to breathe. Even though it usually happened in summer when they were playing baseball or something or playing out in the yard and falling or a game of tag gone wrong, it always reminded her of the suffocating feeling that water brings.

She shook her head a little but and grabbed the dirt of the lake bank and dragged herself foreward. It was almost ironic now that she was afraid of not breathing because of water, and now she clawed her way towards it to help her breathe again.

It took a moment for two but she pushed herself into the water, just enough to get her head under water. It helped her a little to get breathing again and only a second later she pushed herself forward again, harder, to push herself into the deeper water.

She plunged down, the water feeling good, but also her body aching. She spun around and pushed her way back to the surface with incredible ease. She coughed a little as she floated a little ways away from Alec. "Sorry.... got the wind knocked out of me..is all..."

She pushed some of her knotted blue hair behind her ear as she gave him an awkward smile. This boy was hard to forget. The one who almost wrecked the cords in the entertainment room. Alex...no no... Alec. He seemed a little different, but generally he was still recognisable.

It was hard to mask the relief on his face as he watched her make her way into the water. Alec wasn't always concerned about himself or others, but his carefree attitude always became displaced with worry whenever good people got hurt. Although he wouldn't guess that was a likely solution to her problem, he figured it somehow made her feel better so it was good. "Heh, thas good. A' was g'neh try n' lift ye n' that woul've probehleh turned ou' realleh bad." He laughed lightly and treaded water.

He still couldn't put a finger on who she was, the fact that he was usually good with names infuriated him. Her eyes seemed very familiar. "Ye ekay now?"

"Lots better." She nodded. "Didn't mean to give you a scare...." She shied away a little bit. "I must look pretty hideous...."

In fact Awen hadn't even gone to look at herself in the mirror before she left. She hadn't wanted to see herself, convinced she must look freakish, even by island standards.

Alec chuckled, lifting his hand above water for a moment to wave it off. "Nah, we're all peacheh."

He stopped short when he noticed she was shying away, her statement about her looks only reinforcing what her body language had been saying. "Wha? Neh, ye fine." The teen furriowed his studded brow, looking as nonchallant as was possible. Her... fingers were odd, her face was quickly losing it's human-like characteristics but she wasn't disgusting. he'd been spending too much time with people like Amaya to consider the blue-haired girl to be hard on the eyes.

"Did ye... change soon?" By the way she was acting as well as the little mishap by the lakeshore, he could only figure that she'd received her injection rather recently. Usually people became numb to their looks after awhile.

Awen nodded slowly. "Just this morning...." She gave him another small glance. "And I see you've done a bit of changing yourself, since last we met."

She moved slowly back and forth in the water, easing some of the tension in her muscles. It was surprisingly easy to keep afloat, and hardly required many kicks from her legs. The feet were an added bonus in the water, though they still hurt, but the wings helped relieve the pressure.

Alec sunk down into the water until the surfance was just under his chin, watching her slow movements like she was some fascinating marine creature from a documentary on tv. "Ye." He nodded somberly, twitching a lip at the mention of his 'changes'. A drip of water ran down his face and lingered on the edge of his flattened nose until he sniffed and rubbed it away. "A' won' eatcha, a promise." He laughed, entirely kidding, as a light jab at Emelyn's unwarranted caution. He couldn't even imagine attacking someone anyways.

Figuring she wasn't about to mention her own name offhandedly, he decided to brave the embarassment and ask. "Sorreh I, uh... fohgot ye name?"

Eat? She tiled her head and as Alec moved closer Awen moved back. It wasn't that she was afraid, she just...liked her space. And the way he was watching her kind of freaked her out. Why was he watching her like that anyway?

She turned away from him and started swimming in slow lazy circles. "Awen, it's not really a common name, I don't blame you for not remembering it." She gave him a bright smile. "But hey...eat me? You are a predator then?" She didn't seem very concerned with the whole predator thing. After all, Chubbs, Ambrose and Pyroth were all perfectly good guys, and they were predators.

"Fook if a' know." He mumbled, his reponse possibly lost and inaudible. Remembering his purpose for being there in the first place, the teen went about fooling around in the water by himself, doing a lazy backstroke towards his own end of the lake to give them all some more room.

"Awen, kay won' fohget next time." He smiled up at the sky, answering loud enough for her to hear. "An' a' d'neh, a' figeh'd a'd let ye know in case ma teeth freak ye ou'." Chuckling, he lolled in the water and squinted up at the overcast sky.

"Teeth?" She asked and swam a little closer. She hadn't noticed the teeth at all, being more concerned with herself and looking foolish and horrid at the time. "I've been around Ambrose and Jamal and Joli and everyone long enough, teeth don't really scare me." She giggled a little bit.

She shrugged and flipped to her back, with a small grin she kicked a foot and splashed at the teen before her.

Alec wiggled his shoulder as he thought about the people she mentioned. Ambrose? Jamal? and Joli, the girl from teh caf. Yea, big teeth alright. "Ye, dees fings." He mumbled disjointedly as he shifted his floating mass to the side to point at the jagged protrusions. Maybe he was wrong, maybe they weren't that disturbing to some people.

Before he could realize that he'd opened himself up for attack, a splash of water hit him straight in the face. "Aye!" He laughed and sputtered, sinking down to upright himself quickly to retaliate with a splash of his own back at her.

"Gotcha!" Her eyes widened and she turned her face away as the splash came back to her. She splashed at Alec again, forgetting whatever they were talking about. She pushed herself a little away from Alec, maybe a little further than she meant to. The new fins making movement incredibly easy.

"Ah haha! Can't splash this fish!" She laughed.

Alec successfully evaded the counter-attack by dunking his head underwater, coming to the surface only to see Awen much farther away than he had anticipated. "Eeey... cheateh." He laughed despite his disadvantage, figuring she'd be able to swim faster than him an account of her 'features'. Although he knew it was futile, he continued the game and swam after her until he was just close enough to attempt another splash.

"Ey... where d'ye sleep?" He asked when the question came to mind, leaning back as he waded and waited for a retort.

She didn't bother dodging the second splash, figuring she'd let him get the shot in. She would, after all, win this game if ever they really compeated. She was about to splash again when he asked the sort of odd question.

She chuckled softly. "In my duplex, like everyone else."

"Oh." He answered naively, the question having been of honest curiousity. Indicative of somesort of immaturity, random questions weren't uncommon from him and he didn't understand why people made such a fuss most of the time about being nosey. Content with the answer, he smirked and swam past Awen towards shore.

Reaching a downed tree that was now split and laying half-submerged, the teen lifted himself out of the water and took a seat quietly.

"I might end up changing duplexes soon though..." She followed Alec towards the shore, but stayed in the deeper water. She honestly didn't mind him asking the question, it seemed silly but in a way it made sense. If Awen saw someone who looked like her she would probably ask where the person slept too.

"Sabin says there are duplexes that are mostly underwater... I might be more comfortable in one of those. Instead of just having a large tank where the bed is...."

Alec shuddered but tried his best to keep his reaction from being visible. Her idea of a half-submerged duplex brought out memories of the horrible nightmare he had, though the experience was fuzzy, the details lost to him now.

"Sabin?" He chirped back, raising a brow before moving on. Probably just someone else he hadn't met yet. "Well... if ye need i'..." The teen trailed off, shrugging his shoulders. He almost felt bad for asking in the first place, but his insatiable curiousity caused him to often wind up in awkward situations like that. "C'nt be tha' bad?"

"Oh um... Sabin's just one of the lab techs..." She glanced away. She hadn't really seen his shudder, not being the observant person today.

"Ah well, it's really not a bad thing. I don't mind moving, not much to pack up and everything!" She shook her head. "But before I had the tank, I got really hot and itchy and uncomfortable in a real bed. I ended up sleeping in the tub after the power came back. They installed a big tank-like bed when I almost drowned in the ocean... I am starting not to like the air as much. The lake feels the best, and the tank feels a little..too small. But I like staying in the duplexes still, and i don't want to have to deal with Billy out in the lake, you know? So.. moving to one of those rooms would be a good thing, right?"

He twitched his head to look around the lake, frowning inwardly as she spoke. Billy? Lake? Oh great, not another weird islander to drive him away from a spot he was actually starting to like. "Soun's ekay." Alec turned his attention back to Awen and nodded politely. "Am no' envious o' ye, thas f' sho. No offense."

He rose from his spot and stood awkwardly on the fallen log though since his balance wasn't exactly the best. In fact, he had to skip across the small surface towards the muddy bank before his foot could land in the water. Of course, he tried to mask his clumsilness in the process. "Goo' luck wi' tha' though, d'ye need 'elp gettin back to ye... ye duplex there?"

"Ah well... if I was in your position I wouldn't be envious of me either. Didn't like the idea much myself before but...you get used to things here." She replied.

The manta started laughing when he skipped across to the shore. She shook her head a little. The poor boy, clumsy with wires, clumsy with water.

She stopped when he asked about getting help back to her duplex. She looked back in the direction of her home and frowned. "Hm... maybe..." The purple eyes turned back to Alec as a small smile came to her features. "Actually, I think I'm going to stay here awhile. Rest my sores from the change in the water. To be honest I'd probably need help back, but no sense waiting around for me!" She laughed and shook her head. "I'll manage, I got myself here after all, right?"

Alec smirked as he remembered her grand entrance but chose not to bring it up. No use reminding her of her bad situation any more than what was already on her mind. "Alrigh' suit yeself." He chuckled, giving a short wave before stooping down to gather his shirt again. "See ye! Tay' care."

Glancing back over his shoulder once more, he continued on back to his duplex by following the river.

Awen waved from the water when he glanced back over his shoulder that last time. "You too Alec, take care of yourself!"

She smiled and dove under the water to swim to the depts of the lake. She chuckled silently to herself. That Alec seemed like a nice kid anyway, always trying to be nice and such. It really was refreshing to see that sometimes...

But she wondered what he was turning into. He had really strange skin colourations. Grey and brown? And his nose... and those teeth. What a strange combination...

One Dazed Panda

Alec Derring
Alec hung around the outside of his duplex for awhile, smoking a few and munching away at a sandwich he'd snatched from the cafeteria early that morning. He was bored, as usual, looking forward to nothing but the football game Ambrose had apparently managed to co-ordinate according to the flier he'd posted. Stupid island.

About to give up and head back into his stuffy, grungy duplex when he got the idea to stop by his favorite neighbor- possibly to harass her into somesort of form of entertainment. He wanted to know what she was up to recently, anyways. Wandering upstairs, he tossed a butt over his shoulder and held the sandwich in his mouth as he rapped on the door.

Nita MacNeal
Nita's hair was a mess, sticking sweatily to her face, despite being pulled back. She had been cleaning ever since she got back to her duplex and the place was pretty close to spotless. Even though the chemicals got to her head a bit, the smells were familiar. It was going to be clean.

She smelled the cigarette smoke before she heard the noise at the door. Turning off the dust-buster, Nita wiped her face and peered through the peep-hole. Alec.

"Yeah?" she said, opening the door slightly.

Alec Derring
"Mhm." Alec gestured with his head before removing the sandwich from his mouth and leaning against her doorjam. "Wha ye up teh?" It was obvious what she was doing, by the smell of the strong chemicals to the hum of cleaning equipment. It looks like she really didn't do anything but clean all day, though he asked just the same out of habit. She sorta looked worse than the last time though, from what he bothered to notice.

Nita MacNeal
Nita waved into the room with the dustbuster. "Oh, just cleaning a bit. I borrowed stuff from the village center." She pushed her hair out of her face again, leaving a bit of a smudge on her forehead.

"Were you wanting to come in or something?" she asked after a moment.

Alec Derring
"Don' mind if a' do!" The punk teen flashed a wry grin and waited for her to vacate the doorway so he could come in. He'd take off his boots closer to the door itself to save him the trouble of being bitched at for dirtying up the place. Truthfully, he couldn't really blame her either for it.

He considering making a comment about how shitty she looked, attributing it to her activity for the time being and letting the thought slide. "ow d'ye even dirteh this place so quickleh?" He snickered as he peered around at the foreign sight of cleanliness.

Nita MacNeal
Nita moved away from the door and sank into a chair. She was feeling a bit dizzy again, and not entirely from the fumes. Her hands opened and closed a few times as if holding on to something invisible.

"Cleaning disturbs dust," she said by way of explanation. "But it all ends up much better than before." Indeed, despite Nita's rather bedraggled appearance, the duplex looked nice. She had just been finishing up with the vaccuuming when Alec knocked.

Alec Derring
Alec moved farther into the room as he watched her sit down. "Ah." He commented shortly, only half-interested in her explainations for her insane need to keep things tidy. She'd probably have a heart attack if she ever stepped foot into his place.

Before he made himself comfortable by sitting down in a chair, he stopped half-way into the motion and produced another sandwich from the pocket of his shorts. "Sammich?" He offered it, somewhat curious as to why she looked particularly tired. The fact that she'd been doing physical labor eluded him.

Nita MacNeal
Nita looked up just in time to see Alec pull a sandwich from his pocket. Ew. She did notice that his clunky boots had been left by the door.

"Hm? Oh, no thanks, I'm fine," she said, turning down the offer. She managed not to make a rather disgusted face. A drink did sound like a good idea though. Nita stood slowly, bracing herself on the back of her chair, and went over to the fridge. "You want a soda though?" She pulled out a diet Coke and looked at Alec.

Alec Derring
What Alec really wanted to do was look at her like she was an absolute alien, turning down a perfectly good sandwich. It was roast beef too, who could resist a roast beef sandwich?

"Ye sick o' somethin?" Deductive reasoning at it's best.

At the offer of the drink however, he was quick to oblige. "Sure." He nodded crinkling the wrapper for his spent snack and tossing it basketball-style into a nearby waste basket.

Nita MacNeal
Nita grabbed the box of leftover stir-fry out of the fridge. Passing a soda to Alec on the way back to her chair, she thought about his question. Funny that she actually had to think about it.

"Sick?" she repeated slowly. "Maybe. I might be coming down with something; I can't tell..."

She ate a bit of the stir-fry, chewing carefully and sipping her soda. It definitely wasn't as good cold, but she'd found it was better cold than reheated.

Alec Derring
He gladly accepted the drink with a nod of thanks, opening and letting the can rest on his knee. The teen wasn't sure if her answer was sufficient to satiate his curiousity or not, wanting to pry but not wanting to insult. Her boyfriend might've broken up with her or something, and he didn't wish to get involved in any of that nonsense. "So?" He added to the silence that was slowly creeping into the room. "Ye g'nneh chance a lil football wi' us?" He only assumed she'd been outside long enough to see the flier posted in the Village, uncaring if she was an actual sports fan or not. He considered it a sport easy enough that anyone could join in.

Nita MacNeal
Nita had actually seen the flier just that morning, although she hadn't thought of participating. "I might go watch," she said. "I never liked soccer when I had to play it in gym class." Every year. From 6th through 10th grades.

She ended up ignoring most of the stir-fry but eating the bamboo shoots separately. They didn't get too mushy after being refridgerated.

Alec Derring
Alec leaned back in his chair, balancing himself once and awhile with little hops that'd suspend him before thumping back down onto all four legs. "Yer a barrel o' laughs." He laughed himself, watching Nita pick at her food quietly, deciding to add another bit in. "Thas no fun. Ye g'nneh stay couped up n' 'ere all day?" God, and he thought his life was boring. Fresh air never killed anyone.

"Mehbeh ye need t'get mo' sun."

Nita MacNeal
Nita made an effort not to chide Alec for messing around with the chair. It would be his own fault if he fell on his head. At least the floor was clean. She raised her faded eyebrows at him, aware that she was being mocked.

"Actually, I spend a lot of time outside," she informed him mildly. "On the beach and in the jungle and stuff."

Alec Derring
Alec was almost disappointed at the reaction he'd received, finding his efforts to get a rise out of her to be fruitless. Anyone else would probably be somewhat insulted by now. The fact that she remained somewhat unfazed made him boreed. Of course, a bored teenager was never really good to have around to keep the peace.

"Ye righ'." He laughed sarcastically, his pointy teeth making his goofy smile look even more out of place against his features. He left it at that for the time being, rocking in the chair to gain momentum and to peak at what she was nibbling on.

Nita MacNeal
Nita was a bit too spaced out to be insulted. She poked at the stir-fry, eventually nibbling at some of the other vegetables. "I do," she said, in what would have been an insistent tone if she actually felt like she cared about defending herself. "You could ask people, but I don't know why you seem to need me to be so lame."

She shrugged, staring into the depths of her soda can. Her head was hurting again. Or maybe it was "still." She couldn't remember.

Alec Derring
Alec just stared, amazed at how apparently out-of-it Nita was. It's not that he's stopped by expecting a fight to break out, but he definetly didn't expect to see her looking so.. tired, was it? He couldn't tell. "Ye shoul' go t'bed." He muttered bluntly, raising a studded brow and ignoring the 'lame' comment as he took a slug of his soda after ceasing his rocking.

Nita MacNeal
"Yeah," she agreed slowly. "Sleep... but the dreams..." The last three words were uttered softly, barely voiced at all. "Or a shower. My hands are dirty." Nita stared at her furred hands. To all outward appearances, they were perfectly clean, even if they did smell rather strongly of cleaning solution.

Alec Derring
Alec did manage to catch the words she was uttering softly, only resulting in him getting even more weirded out. He leaned over in his chair, attempting to get a look at her face since she seemed intent on staring at her soda can or the floor. "Ye ekay?"

Oh great, she's going nuts like Julian. Was his first thought, wondering if her injections were taking a toll on the feeble girl's mind. "Ye wanneh go t'th'labs mebeh?" He spoked a little louder, trying to snap her out of her trance. The suggestion seemed absurd at first, according to the horror stories he'd heard from the others, but he figured if she was getting sick than she should see a doctor. Even a crazy one.

Nita MacNeal
Nita heard him faintly through the fog in her mind. "No. Yeah." She blinked. That didn't make sense. She rubbed her forehead for a moment, trying to collect her thoughts.

"I'll be fine.. I think I should lie down for a bit." Nita scrubbed at her face again. Why wouldn't her headache go away? Why was everything so distant?

Alec Derring
Alec got up from his seat as he finished his soda, dropping the can into the trash as he made quick movements around the room. He wasn't sure if he was just itching to get out of there or if he was attempting to actually help, but he stopped by the dazed Nita's side and pointed to her bed that was neatly made. "Crazeh b***h go t'bed." He tried not to laugh and be serious for once. He hadn't even been there very long and she was definetly starting to gradual look worse and worse. He even considered calling the labs to come get her but a warning sign in his conscience commanded him not to put her in some bad situation that he would ultimately be responsible for.

Confident that his point was made, he wandered over to the doorway to get his boots on and leave her be.

Nita MacNeal
Nita laughed hollowly, which was probably a bit disturbing under the circumstances. She did stand up, however, and dropped the empty box and soda can into the trash. She tried to smile at Alec, part of her knowing that he was right, that he was helping, even if he didn't mean to.

"Thank you," Nita whispered, sitting down on her bed. Her eyelids felt heavy and her cheeks tingled slightly.

Alec Derring
He tried not to pay attention to Nita's blank stare as he paused by the door, even shivering when he heard her distant voice respond to his little jab. He felt sort of weird leaving her like that, sitting and looking that way like she was straight from an asylum but he didn't know what else to do.. or if he should do anything else at all.

"Call if ye need anehthin, will ye?" He'd almost sound irritated if not for the look on his face, positive that he'd most likely hear her if she screamed loudly or anything of the sort. After that he quietly left and shut the door behind him.

"Joost when a' think a' know wha' th'fook's goin on 'ere..." He growled to himself, voice trailing off as he stuffed his hands in his pockets roughly, searching for his lighter to calm his nerves. He continued on to stomp off into the jungle in no set direction. He didn't even want to begin to imagine what could've happened to make her like that, making an effort to forget.

Nita MacNeal
Nita raised a hand in a brief wave, but Alec was already out the door.

Moving automatically, Nita shucked off her jeans and went to brush her teeth. Even in her stupor she was responsible enough to take her medication. Nita splashed tepid water on her face and padded back to her bed.

Her duplex was clean. That plus some rest would surely make her feel better. She curled up under the blankets, not entirely sure whether or not she was already dreaming.

Football is a Contact Sport

At the edge of the village

THOM:Thom had arrived some time earlier with his box full of soccer balls, having lugged the entire thing over on the off chance that they had more popping incidents. He had remained off to the side, juggling a soccer ball n one foot, as people began to arrive, waiting until he judged that everyone was there before addressing the odd assortment, clearing his throat to demand attention before speaking. "Right, so.. T'day's simply judge skills, pick teams an' th' like day, so I 'ope y'don't expect much. I'm assumin' since you're 'ere, y' know at least th' basics of th' game, so we'll just run a few drills an' go from there."
AMBROSE:Ambrose smiled widely, tail wagging. He had opted to wear just a pair of khaki shorts, given the temperatures and his fur. He was also eager to get Angelina out in the open and her mind off of her change, as well as the thrill of the game, and competition with what looked a sizable group of people.
AMAYA: Amaya just hung back in the crowd, mostly towards were Alec was. Now that Ambrose had Angelina around, she didn't want to bug them.
ALEC: Alec fidgetting with the shoulder of his baggy top, looking around like he was truly lost and had stumbled on something completely alien. He'd played football before, but from the sounds of it this wasn't supposed to be some
ALEC: leisurely game of kickin a ball around the grass.
ANGELINA:Angelina stuck VERY close to Ambrose, looking exceptionally nervous. She was wearing a pair of biker shorts and a t-shirt that was tied up.
ANTONY: "Drills?" Antony cocked an eyebrow, tails lashing slightly behind her in irritation. Since when were they a part of a professional team? Wasn't this suppposed to be fun?
ANGELINA:For the first time since her change she was outside. Her spots and peachfuzz clearly visable on her skin, and her tail twitched nervously behind her.
REX: Rex nodded at the unchanged islander leading the whole ordeal and glanced around to their new motely crew. Animal-style soccer was sure going to be fun. Rex needed something to dedicate to and to get him outside.
THOM:Thom quirked a brow, tossing Antony a frown. "Ambrose an' I 'ad th' idea of a league type situation.. Add a bit more competition to it. Though we'd also expected a bit more people, I think," he muttered, glancing
ANTONY: She was wearing a sports bra and a pair of someone's boxers, waistband folded down several times so that the sort of fit.
THOM:around. "...Might 'ave t'settle for simple matches whenever we find time with this lot."
AMBROSE:"Well, we can always start small." Ambrose spoke up in suggestion. "Maybe try a practice match before more people gain wind of the league? Pick a sample team and see how we work together?"
KAVERI: Kaveri hadn't cared much for sports before, but she figured it would be a nice distraction to get her out of the duplex. She felt rather aloof, seeing some new faces in the crowd, so she stuck around the back of the group to listen.
ANTONY: "Maybe then we can gather some people and play football," she suggested absently, stretching her left leg carefully.
THOM:"S'up t'you, then." Thom shrugged, scooping his foot beneath one soccer ball and flicking it up into his hand. "Skip th' warm ups an' just pick teams? Take a vote."
AMBROSE:Ambrose shrugged and raised his hand.
LAURENLauren also raised, unsure as to which was best.
ANGELINA:Angelina figited with her shorts, pulling them down, and her sleeves, in a failed attempt to cover some of her spots as she waited to see what was happening.
AMAYA: Amaya just watched the others, not really caring what they did honestly.
ANTONY: "Sounds good to me," she said, cracking her neck lazily.
ALEC: Alec stared blankly, looking to Amaya with uncertainty before raising his hand.
REX: "I'm cool with whatever." Rex shrugged, with this bunch of misfits it would be hard to have equal teams anyways.
KAVERI: Kaveri gave a shrug and lamely held up a scaly, grey hand.
AMAYA: The iguana just raised a brow at Alec, giving him a "what?" look before turning her attention back ahead and lazily raised her hand a little.
THOM:"Uncertain bunch, aren't we?" he drawled, shaking his head. "Very well, suit y'self. Pick captain's an' we'll be on with it. I nominate Ambrose."
AMBROSE:Ambrose blinked, and then his face parted into a lupine grin. "Sounds like fun! I'm up for it if no one else wants to fight me for it." His tail wagged.
ALEC: The punk teen was expecting Ambrose to be picked, which was fine with him. He'd rather be on his team by the looks of it. As he waited, he rummaged for a cig and lighter.
AMAYA: Well hell, she had never even played soccer how was she supposed to act?
REX: "Go for it, bud." Rex nudged his head in Ambrose's direction with his tail flicking baack and forth in excitement behind him.
ANGELINA:Angelina looked uncertainly around the bunch, hiding further behind the much larger Ambrose.
AMAYA: Amaya caught wind of what Alec was doing and gave him a HARD nudge in the side with he elbow.
AMBROSE:Ambrose glanced back and gave Angelina a reassuring smile before walking up and joining Thom by his side. "And I presume you'll be the other?"
REX: Rex chuckled at Amaya and winked secretly.
AMAYA: The girl blinked up at Rex and then looked down, dropping her arm from it's jabbed position in Alec's side with a tiny smile.
ANTONY: Antony clicked her tongue at Amaya's motion, muttering something about being outside.
THOM:Chuckling dryly, Thom dropped the ball to the ground and folded his arms. "Oh I dunno, I'd 'ave thought miss squirrel over 'ere would've called it for 'erself by now."
ALEC: Alec snorted loudly when he was nudged in the ribs, almost biting down on the filter in his mouth. "Muh-wuh?" He grunted rather loudly and shifting the weight to his other foot.
AMAYA: "You're about to play a sport and you're lighting up a cig? It'll just get in the way. You should wait until afterward if you must." Amaya chidded.
ANTONY: Her eyes narrowed as her attention turned towards Thom, pointing towards him as if she were calling out a home run. "I'd watch it if I were you."
REX: And they already act like they're married! Rex thought to himself.
ANTONY: Needless to say, she had no clue he was a professional.
AMBROSE:"Alright... well... I guess it would be time to choose teams, then. Who goes first, Thom?"
ANTONY: "Oh he can fit in a smoke if he wants while teams are being picked." She said over her shoulder to the lizard girl.
THOM:"I'll take y'word for it, sweet'eart." He rolled his eyes, then waved a hand towards Ambrose. "'Ave at it. You pick first."
ALEC: He fought the urge to utter something back, instead he did nothing but put the lighter back into his shorts. "Ye...righ'."
AMBROSE:Ambrose nodded to Thom first, figuring he might give him the first pick, given Thom's experience. He looked out over the group of people in front of him and took a breath, looking indecisive.
AMAYA: The lizard visably winced, as if Antony had yelled at her or something when she haden't. Frowing, she just shut her mouth again and looked at the ground.
AMBROSE:No pressure, right? the little voice in Ambrose's head teased. There was Angelina... his girlfriend... looking nervous.... but on the other hand, there was Rex - a tall, sporty type who would likely play better...
KAVERI: Kaveri put her arms behind her back, curving her long neck down and somewhat folded so it sat comfortably between her shoulders without straining.
LAURENLauren couldn't stop herself from grabbing the large bug in the grass and popping it into her mouth.
ANGELINA:Angelina blinked at Luaren and stared in a bit of horror.
THOM:Thom's expression perfectly mirrored Angelina's as he stared at Lauren.
AMBROSE:"Er...." He drew out, looking between the two of them. Angelina... wouldn't mind if he didn't pick her first ... right? As long as he didn't pick her last?
AMBROSE:He took a breath and finally spoke out his first decision, tactics and competitiveness winning out. "Rex!"
AMAYA: Amaya seemed to be doing her best to ignore the mongoose.
KAVERI: The vulture-woman smirked as she watched the... ferret? ... eat the bug. At least it wasn't rabbit guts.
ANGELINA:"EXCUSE ME?" Angelina spun around, planting her hands on her small boyish hips, her tail bottle-brushing out.
REX: Rex's eyes flashed open in happiness, "Sweet." And walked over to stand next to Ambrose, his new team captain.
LAURENLauren caught Angelina and Thom looking and smiled a toothy grin complete with bug legs sticking through her teeth.
ALEC: Alec became distracted and watched Lauren down the bug, unable to contain his immature laughter despite the rather quiet gathering. "Aye Rex! Fair play!" He cheered as his friend was chosen, oblivious to Angelina's anger.
ANTONY: "Dude, he's male and this is sports, chill out."
AMBROSE:Ambrose's ears plastered back, looking sheepish. "Ah...." His eyes darted to Rex, flashing the lion-man a smile. It had been a while since he'd seen him - he'd definately changed. But he looked overall happy.
KAVERI: Kaveri started snickering.
LAUREN"I'd picked Rex too." Lauren added.
REX: "Feisty bunch tonight, huh?"
ANGELINA:Angelina stormed away from her hiding spot behind Ambrose in a huff, not caring if her shorts were riding up her a** anymore. Her tail twitched behind her in an annoyed fashion.
ANTONY: "Exactly." She agreed with Lauren, a look that clearly considered the choice a no brainer playing on her face.
THOM:Thom knew only a few of the islanders, but that knowledge did nothing to help him choose. His first thought was Alec...and then thoughts of the cigarette came back and he pointed to the
THOM:girl storming from behind Ambrose. "You."
AMAYA: Amaya just glanced at Angelina breifly. It wasn't like he was breaking up with her or something, why was she so upset?
KAVERI: Kaveri hadn't met Rex before, but she agreed with the others just by how the guy looked. "He looks like he'd be good at this," she chimed in.
AMBROSE:"Wh.... what??" Ambrose blinked, dumbfounded at Thom's pick.
ANGELINA:Angelina's expression was surprised at first, but her lips curled into a smirk. "Aye!" She stuck her tongue out at Ambrose and jogged perkily over to Thom.
AMBROSE:He hadn't expected that to happen. Never had it occurred that Angelina wouldn't wind up on his team.
LAURENLauren laughed at the situation. "Aww... someone stole your chick!"
ANTONY: "Sweet," Antony murmured, obviously eager to see how this game played out now.
REX: Rex's lips curled into a smile, flashing his large fangs. Taking Angelina away from Ambrose added in a whole new game dynamic.
THOM:Thom quirked a brow at Ambrose, a smirk playing across his lips. "Somthin' wrong?"
AMAYA: Ooooo, burn. The teen did her best to hide a smirk.
AMBROSE:Ambrose scowled, though there was a bit of a playful edge to it. "Nice pick, Thom. That's my girlfriend." His ear flicked back and he flashed him a grin with a bit more teeth in it.
ALEC: "'urreh up." The teen called out innocently, growing bored enough to consider leaving.
ANGELINA:Angelina stood next to Thom and buffed her fingernails coyly.
THOM:"Brilliant." He laughed, flashing a grin. "Bit of suspense never 'urt anyone. Pick y'next."
AMBROSE:Ambrose smacked his lips, casting Angelina and Thom a last rueful look before looking back out over the players. "Alec~!" He called out, remembering the teen's interest, and taking a gender bias.
AMAYA: Ahhh, s**t. There went her last friend to hide behind.
REX: "Yeheheah!" Rex cheered and went up to give Alec a high five.
ALEC: "Well ain't i' ma birthdeh." The punk teen gave a coy smirk and stuck his tongue at Amaya as he walked over to a place beside Rex after returning the high-five.
ANTONY: Antony simply stretched her left ankle and calf a bit more, pleased that it was feeling much better.
THOM:Thom nodded, glancing around the group before pointing to the mongoose girl. "You, ah, what was it, Lauren?"
LAURENLauren smiled. "Sweet! I'm with the pro!" She marched over to Thom triuphantly.
AMAYA: Amaya just frowned at him, feeling exposed and alone now. She shifted on her feet and crossed her arms over her chest, long tail curling slightly around her large feet.
REX: Rex smirked as Lauren's name was called, now knowledgeable of her relationship with Nita. He still needed to talk to her about borrowing her surfboard.
AMBROSE:"Hrmmm..." Ambrose scratched his chin and looked at the cluster of remaining people. Amaya.. Anthony... and Kaveri.
ANTONY: She blinked at Lauren's comment, eyes narrowing as she gave Thom a glare. Oh she hoped she wasn't on his team. He deserved an a** whooping.
AMBROSE:Anthony probably had the most game-spirit of the bunch... but he was already stung from not picking a friend... His eyes darted between Amaya and Anthony.
AMBROSE:"A-" He almost went to say Amaya's name... but years of competition, and some deep down pack hunting instincts made him deviate "Antony!"
AMAYA: Wonderful. Amaya felt like just sitting down and watching now.
KAVERI: Kaveri grunted, folding her arms over her chest. She never pegged herself an athletic type, even though she was made of meat. It was down to her and the lizard queen.
REX: Rex gave a puppy-eyed frown to Amaya, but changed his expression to greet Ant to their team with a hug and a smile. "Nice to see yeh!"
ANTONY: A wide grin appeared on her face as she pushed herself to her feet, making her way over to Ambrose. "It's on," she said to Thom before returning Rex's hug.
ALEC: Alec didnt seem to mind having Antony on his team, almost completely missing the hurt look on Amaya's face. It was just a game, right? The fact that he'd convinced to even come here in the first place eluded him.
THOM:Lovely. His only choices left were big foot and accordian neck. A tough choice.. He was extremely tempted to flip a coin on the decision.
ANTONY: "Likewise," she replied.
LAURENLauren wondered if it was legal for someone to use their tail in soccer.
THOM:"Right, then, I'll take, ah.." He waved vaguely in the direction of Amaya, as he hadn't the faintest idea what her name was. "An' then I'll find someone else so we'll be even."
AMBROSE:"Someone else?" Ambrose queried, then mock-pouted. "So I can't have an extra team member on my side?"
AMAYA: Amaya hesitated, looking at Kaveri. "I'll sit out if you wanna play. Doesn't matter."
ANTONY: "I'd say he," she gestured to Thom, "Can count as two since he's pro."
THOM:"You 'ave three lads, if anythin' I deserve the extra," he argued, shrugging. "But I 'ave someone in mind."
AMAYA: The last thing she wanted was to be on Lauren's team against all her friends.
LAURENLauren put her hands on her hips, "Three lads. Pshh... like having a c**k has anything to do with soccer" She looked highly annoyed towards Thom.
AMBROSE:Ambrose looked skeptical, but waited to see what he'd say. "Someone now? What do we do in the meantime?"
ANTONY: "Cause we all know that men are automatically more skilled than women," she said roughly.
REX: Rex watched the dispute in silence. He didn't care about the teams, in all honesty. He just wanted everyone to be happy.
KAVERI: "Whatever you want," Kaveri said, rolling her shoulders in a half-shrug.
ANGELINA:Angelina stayed silent. At least it wasn't football. She couldn't tackle an overdone french fry.
AMAYA: Amaya nodded and gestured towards Thom's team to Kaveri, sitting down afterwards.
THOM:"No offense intended," he added towards Lauren, gesturing to Ambrose's team. "But their, ah.. Animals're more built f'speed than out team appears t'be."
ALEC: Now we were going to fight over teams? Oh great. This was turning out to be like highschool. not... that he'd know anything about it.
THOM:our*
ANTONY: "You picked the least transformed," Antony pointed out.
KAVERI: "You don't wanna play?" Kaveri asked after Amaya, tilting her head at a quizical and probably unhealthy angle.
NITA:Nita sat on the sidelines, watching the proceedings. Was this really such a good idea afterall?
AMAYA: "Nah, I'm fine."
THOM:"Not really," he countered, jabbing a finger towards Amaya.
AMBROSE:"Come now... it's okay! It's just a game. Amaya - can you call the plays? Maybe? If you don't want to be on a team? Or I'd be happy with an extra player" He grinned.
ANTONY: She frowned, and offered Amaya an apologetic look for Thom.
ALEC: Alec frowned deeply, staring at the lizard girl. "Wha, ye no' playin now? Fook tha', if she don'play, then fook tha'." The irishboy was starting to show a bit of temper, irritated at how this was turning out.
AMAYA: "I dunno how. I'll just sit out and watch." Amaya said, hugging her knees and ignoring Thom.
LAURENLauren found herself annoyed at the team drama. Like she had any right getting annoyed at drama considering how much she normally CAUSED.
KAVERI: Kaveri chewed on the inner stud of her labret. "C'mon, he picked you, dude. Nobody's gonna want a fat necky girl on their team anyways." She motioned towards Thom, getting a little annoyed.
THOM:Thom just rolled his eyes, folded his arms, and stepped to the side to wait until everyone shut up or wandered off.
ANTONY: "If she wants, she can play ref and then red card your a**," she jabbed her finger towards Thom the exact way he had to Amaya.
AMBROSE:Ambrose sighed irritably. This was not working out at all like he had envisioned - a good natured competition. A sport, working together with a group...
AMAYA: Great, she had caused all of this? "I'm FINE. Damnit. Go ahead, Kaveri."
ALEC: Alec frowned even more, hearing Kaveri's jab. So this new guy was playin favorites now? The slow teenager was starting to catch on and wasn't liking it.
ANGELINA:Angelina sighed and sat down in the grass (it better hid her tail) and waiting for everyone to calm down.
REX: Rex didn't like all of this agressive competition so early in the 'season'. Why couldn't people just accept that they were on the team that they were chosen for? In the end they were all (or mostly all) friends.
ANTONY: Antony turned to Kaveri and tried her damndest to keep her temper in check. She wasn't exactly 'skinny.'
REX: He followed suit to Angelina and kicked back in teh grass.
REX: *the
KAVERI: Kaveri groaned, "Man, just go out there and play and enjoy yourself. I'm in no shape to be doing anything anyways."
THOM:"Oh come on now, this wasn't meant t' offend anyone. Pardon me f tryin' t'pick people who look like they can run without trippin'." He scowled.
LAUREN"Can we just PLAY!" Lauren shouted out. She wanted to get on with the game but most importantly she wanted to move around.
ALEC: That was it. Alec stomped towards Thom and got right up into his face. "Wha the 'ell thas s'posed t'mean ya bloody peice a work!?"
ANTONY: "Are we going to ******** play or not?" She finally growled loudly, glancing around at everyone who had sat down. Unfortunately, Thom's comment had hit a nerve,
AMBROSE:Ambrose did his best to keep Antony over with Rex while stepping forward. "Okay. We've got the teams... I for once agree with Lauren. Let's put aside differences, anxieties, and have a good time."
ANTONY: but luckily Lauren yelled before she could launch herself at the Brit in retaliation.
KAVERI: "I can run just fine," Kaveri said, turning quickly to face Thom and ending her sentence with an annoyed, throaty click. Sure, her toes were huge but she learned how to get around on them.
AMAYA: "Go play, Kaveri. Everyone go play." Amaya glared at the sand in front of her, looking more pissed off then she probably ever had before. She didn't seem to be budging.
LAUREN For once agree with Lauren... what the ******** was that suppose to mean? But Lauren oddly enough kept her mouth shut and just rolled her orange eyes at Ambrose.
ANTONY: Antony stepped foreward and grabbed the Irish boy around the waist, pulling him away from the Brit. "Get him in the game," she murmured into his ear.
AMBROSE:Ambrose's ears flattened seeing Amaya, feeling bad and guilty now. And he knew he might very well be getting a guilt trip from Angelina later. He sighed.
THOM:Thankfully, any retaliation to Alec's outburst was silenced by Ambrose's words. Thom settled for a glare, backing away a pace himself as Antony pulled Alec back, then sighed. "Are we playin' or not?"
AMBROSE:"Amaya... we'd love your help with directing the game if you don't want to play on a team. Now... let's pick goalies, and Thom.. point out the goals"
LAURENLauren pointed to Nita, "Maybe she could join?"
REX: This was getting to get too much drama, he felt like standing up and roaring over all of the bickering, but controlled his breathing and kept his cool. All of the excitement could get a lion worked up.
NITA:Nita shook her head vehemently, which was a mistake. It only served to bring back the dizziness.
AMAYA: "I don't know how to direct a soccer game." Amaya said honestly, and a little more bitter then she had intended. "I'm just watching."
ANTONY: "I can goal if you want,
ANTONY: Ambrose, less running," she suggested.
AMBROSE:He sighed again. There was no convincing her over the already existing drama. He'd have to catch up with her later. Finally, he nodded quietly and turned to Antony. "That might be best.. with your leg and all."
ALEC: Fuming, Alec patted Antony's hands to calm himself down and backed off immediately. He wasn't one to fight, even now. Pacing around, he hung back until everything was settled. Tell him when to play and he would.
KAVERI: Kaveri suppressed the urge to hiss and hop a few steps back, the vulture instincts welling up from all the tension. "So who's ******** side am I on? Normal boy's, right?"
ANTONY: She let go of Alec, giving his shoulder a squeeze before looking at Thom expectantly for where her goal would be.
AMBROSE:"Yes... Kaveri... I'm sorry, apparently so."
REX: Rex nudged Alec friendily and mouthed "Breathe" calmly. Things should wind down soon.
AMBROSE:Ambrose gave an appreaciative nod to Rex.
LAURENLauren had failed to see why everyone was getting so mad at Thom, other than the fact the game had not started yet.
THOM:"Good t'know I'm th' bloody villian 'ere," he muttered, then glanced around. "They 'aven't let us much 'ere t' use... We could stretch th' field a bit an pick a few trees, may'aps?"
LAURENShe smiled at Nita, giving her a wink, too bored to do much else.
KAVERI: Kaveri grunted and ambled over to Thom's side, opting not to say anything else.
AMBROSE:"The trees work for me." Ambrose agreed, giving Antony a nod and then another one to the closer of the two points.
REX: "Or we could just use jackets and the like to mark where goals would be if the trees don't work." Rex suggested.
ANTONY: "Or just draw lines in the sand."
AMBROSE:"That might be easier."
THOM:"Jackets'd be 'arder t' see, but that works as well." He shrugged, then turned to 'his' team. "Who wants goal? At this point, I could care less."
ANTONY: Too bad they didn't have an actual soccer field.
AMBROSE:Ambrose muttered again under his breath at the dampened spirits.
LAUREN"I'd rather be running." Admitted Lauren. She didn't want to stick in one place waiting for action to happen.
ANGELINA:"I'm kind of small for a goalie," Angelina offered.
THOM:Thom turned his gaze pointedly towards Kaveri.
REX: "Alright then!" Rex said, springing to his feet to try and liven the mood up again. Nothing was worse than a league of half-assed players. "We
REX: 've got the teams and positions getting sorted. So shall we warm up for jus'go for it?"
ANTONY: Antony cracked her knuckles and eyed Thom as she made her way towards 'her' goal. He was being such an a**.
KAVERI: Kaveri was probably one of the larger people on the team. She would not be surprised if she were picked for that alone, and she returns the gaze with a shrug. "Whatever, I'd honestly rather be running."
ALEC: "Ye." Alec agreed with Rex for the sake of doing so, nudging the lion to move away from the group and practice on their own.
AMBROSE:Ambrose clapped his hands, trying to sink in with Rex's enthusiasm. "Yes - this is supposed to be fun - now let's start having some, alright?" He chimed in.
LAURENLauren looked rather annoyed, "Well whatever. I can goalie if you WANT me too. I just want to play."
ANTONY: "Yall can trade off if you want."
AMBROSE:Ambrose nodded to Antony. "And that's a great suggestion. So everyone can be on the field at some point."
CASSIDYRather belatedly, Cass slithered her way over to the crowd, more intending to come watch the game than actually play. "Um, hey guys!"
AMBROSE:Ambrose's ears pricked as he heard a new voice, his mouth splitting in a grin. "Cassidy!"
THOM:"...We'll do without," he muttered, sighing as he turned back to the rest of the group. "Just run fast."
AMAYA: Amaya just glanced at Cass. At least there would be someone else to talk to while everyone else played.
REX: As Rex made his way to their side of the soccer pitch, he eyed a green monstrosity slithering down the field. Who was that? He stopped in his tracks and returned to the group for this new reassessment.
AMAYA: She stayed balled up on the sidelines, staring at her feet as she dug them into the sand.
ANGELINA:Angelina waved at Cassidy with a smile. Wonder if she's thought any more about my idea.
KAVERI: "You can tackle people in this game, right? The sign said football," Kaveri said.
ANTONY: To get her mind of murdering the normal one, Antony waved to Cass.
LAURENLauren eyed Cass too, she had heard about her and seen her around. Why did she have to get the fun serum? Jealous eyes gazed over the snake girl.
AMBROSE:"Not that kind of football! Soccer-football. Hey Cass - that makes the teams even - if you and Amaya played?"
THOM:"...Soccer, Kaveri. Not American football. Oi Cass, come be goalie for me." He waved her over, cracking a grin.
ANTONY: "Not normal football, unfortunately." Antony sounded somewhat sad.
CASSIDY"I think I'm just watching, today." Cass laughed, slightly self-consciously. "How am I supposed to play? I can't kick."
ANTONY: "Like hell Thom! It's Ambrose's pick."
AMBROSE:"heeeey, Isnt' it my pick" Ambrose chimed.
ANGELINA:"Goalie!" Angelina said enthuisastically.
KAVERI: She caught Cass out the corner of her eye, turning her head. She'd seen her before, on that one day. She waves, then turns to Thom again. "Can I still beat people up?"
ANTONY: "Exactly." She smirked at Thom.
THOM:Thom frowned.
AMBROSE:"Only if you're on my team." Ambrose replied to Kaveri
CASSIDY"Goalie?" Cassidy tilted her head. "I... guess that would work."
ALEC: Meanwhile Alec moved over to where Amaya was sitting, standing by her so that his shadow cast over the scaley one entirely. "Come play now, ye?"
KAVERI: "Sold," Kaveri grinned. "Any way we can do tradeoffs?"
AMAYA: Amaya couldn't help but feel even lower. Someone without legs was getting picked faster then she was.
LAUREN"Recruitment is NOT an option!" Lauren shouted out.
AMBROSE:"It's a different game now with more options." Ambrose grinned.
AMAYA: "I'd be on Thom's team." She replied blankly to Alec, not looking up.
KAVERI: "I wanna be on the side that thumps some heads," the vulture-woman jabbed an approving thumb at Ambrose.
ALEC: "NO, ye stuck wi' th' d**k'ead." Alec grinned mischevious at Kaveri and grabbed Amaya's arm to pull her up without even listening. "So? Come on, kick me 'round."
ANTONY: "Man, if it's full contact, I'd love a chance to be switched from goal at some point." Antony could difinately deal with playing dirty.
LAUREN"dickhead sounds more lasting then 'The normal one' I think you have a new nickname." Lauren beamed at Thom jokingly.
AMBROSE:"Sounds fair to me to switch out with Goalies. Amaya, Cass. You two have to play." He said demandingly. "Bigger teams, more fun."
AMAYA: "Whatever." Amaya frowned, letting herself be pulled up.
THOM:Mary Mother of God, he had created a monster. "So--wait, who's on which team now?" A pause, and he cocked his head towards Lauren. "..Thanks so much."
CASSIDYCass scratched her head. "I knew I should have got here sooner. I'll play, I'll be goalie."
KAVERI: "That's true, 'the normal one' will only last like a month."
ALEC: "Ha-ha." He chimed as Ambrose made the decision for Amaya and dragged her further into the group.
REX: Rex nodded in agreement with Ambrose's coments, "And besides Amaya, you'll block like no other with those hands of yours." He tried to make the comment seem as offhand as possible, he knew she was sensitive about her changes.
AMBROSE:Ambrose laughed. "Alright, Cass - you shall be a tough goalie to get past. We'll take turns on my team."
ANTONY: Antony gave Lauren a cheerful, approving grin, "I'm sure dickhead could be improved if we had time to be creative."
ANGELINA:Angelina looked forlornly at Kaveri's comment
AMBROSE:"Oooh, that's a good point, Rex. Amaya - want to be goalie?"
KAVERI: "Judgemental p***k?" Kaveri offers with a grin.
AMAYA: "Sure."
ANTONY: "Works for me," she grinned wickedly.
AMBROSE:He clapped her on the back, tail wagging now. "You'll do great! Protect our goal, soldier!" He grinned.
AMBROSE:"Now, team, let's see if we can beat Dickhead and his ladies." He trotted towards the middle of the field.
CASSIDY"Go for it, Amaya!" Cass clapped her hands.
LAUREN"We need a another team name. I don't want to be Dickhead's ladies" Lauren said seriously to Thom.
ALEC: Happy enough that things were starting to work out, Alec skipped (yes, skipped) off towards his teamates and hip-checked Rex as he went by.
AMAYA: The reptile smiled slightly, allowing herself to be dragged off.
KAVERI: "Dickhead's Angels?"
REX: Rex jogged quickly behind Ambrose, these people needed some livelihood.
AMBROSE:"How about just "The Ladies!"" Ambrose called back over to them, teasing.
ANGELINA:Angelina rubbed her temples. Oi.
ANTONY: Antony doubled over at both Ambrose and Kaveri's comments, laughing loudly.
CASSIDY"Dickhead? Have you been making enemies?"
AMBROSE:((Ambrose's: Rex, Alec, Antony, Amaya))
AMBROSE:((Thom's: Angelina, Kaveri, Lauren, Cass))
ANTONY: "He was being a little s**t to Amaya," Antony said simply to answer Cass' question.
THOM:Thom blinked after Ambrose, then, scowling, waved Cass towards the chosen goal and dragged the box of balls off the 'field'.
LAURENLauren seriously wondered what she had started. I mean, she was just playfully jabbing at Thom, she didn't mean anything serious about it.
CASSIDYCass made her way over to the goal, feeling as awkward as she looked. "No picking on Amaya..."
ANGELINA:"He wasn't picking on her really. Everyone's being sensitive."
AMBROSE:Ambrose nodded to Angelina, giving her one more apologetic look, big puppy-dog-eyes and all.
ANTONY: She pointed towards Thom as she made her way out on the field, "Karma's about to bite you in the a**."
AMBROSE:Ambrose turned to face Antony, Alec, and Rex. "Okay, guys! This is for fun, but try your best. Our team is built for speed, so let's use it, okay?" His tail wagged as he looked at his 'packmates'.
AMAYA: Sensitive? Wasn't she the one throwing a fit over Ambrose?
KAVERI: Kaveri was going to show Thom that 'fat' girls weren't completely incompetent at sports. She was built like a tank! She'd be a good linebacker or quarterback or something. They have those in soccer, right? She never really
KAVERI: paid attention to that stuff.
LAURENLauren had met karma but knew she wasn't anywhere around here. In fact, she was not in her duplex anymore either. She seriously wondered what was going on and why she was going to bite Thom on the a**.
REX: Rex scowled at Alec's hip-check and took off after him. He deserved a good noogie. Though after a bit he stopped to listen to the leader's words.
AMAYA: Amaya stood between the two "goal posts" that were... trees. Oh yay.
THOM:After retrieving the soccer ball from the center of the field, he met with his team near their goal. "Firstly? I'm not as much of a d**k as m' new title suggests. Kaveri--that's y'name, right? Feel free t' tackle
CASSIDYCass coiled herself loosely in front of the vague goal, the tip of her tail twitching. "Okay. Um. I haven't played soccer... football.. whatever, since high school. I don't really know what I'm doing..."
AMBROSE:Ambrose clapped his hands, ending the short huddle and went to the field middle, leaning forward with his hands on his knees, tail swishing and ears forward and down to the sides.
CASSIDY"... wait. Tackling?"
LAURENLauren cocked an eyebrow, "Rules changed?"
THOM:any an' everyone on th' other team. Lauren an' whatserface, just try t'stay open...An' Cass, just don't let anythin' in the goal, righto?"
KAVERI: as big asKaveri went out onto the field. She had no idea how to play this game, but she figured she could just body check people into submission or something. Her eyes lit up at the mention of tackling, "******** win!"
CASSIDY"Well, geez. I remember that much." Cass laughed.
REX: Rex jogged out to the cetner of the field behind Ambrose as backup. He hadn't played in ages but it couldn't be too complicated to pick up again. He grinned menacingly and bared his large fangs to the opposing team.
THOM:"Then y'good t' go," he assured her, cracking a grin. "Right then, let's go." Dropping the ball on the ground, he started back for the center of the field, lazily dribbling it from one foot to the other.
AMAYA: Amaya shifted from foot to foot, tail swaying slightly behind her. All she had to do was block the goal... right?
ALEC: Alec stooped down in his chosen position, digging his heels into the grass to prepare for a run. "Wait, wuh po... place am I playin?" The confused teen stood back up, obvlivious that the ball had been dropped.
ANTONY: "Just be brutal, and all else fails Alec, rough the Brit up for Amaya." She motioned towards his woody joints and smiled.
LAURENstay open... right... Wasn't she suppose to kick the ball into the goal. Lauren wondered if this was going to be a team effort or a one man show. She wasn't going to let it be that way.
KAVERI: "The hell if I know, all I know is, I'm the tank," Kaveri flexed proudly, giving her sternum a hard pat. This brought her back to her protesting and rioting days.
AMAYA: Amaya snorted from her position at Antony's comment.
ALEC: Alec grinned, having forgotten about his "rough" elbows. Maybe he'd actually play well today? If he didn't get flattened by Kaveri or something first...
LAURENRunning Lauren was good at, being fast and agile she was GREAT at since the change. But tackling... not so great. Hopefully she wouldn't get pounded into the dirt here. She didn't want to have to tunnel out of a squished situation.
ANTONY: Antony allowed herself a few strong straight jumps in place to 'warm up,' or to simply show people that her leg was fine and dandy. Time to go crazy squirrel.
AMBROSE:Ambrose keeps his eyes on Thom and the ball, trying to keep himself between him and the goal.
CASSIDYOh man. Cass didn't even know some of these people, or what she was doing. Please, let no one tackle the goalie.
KAVERI: Kaveri looked for a good position to put herself at. She wasn't sure if she wanted to play offensively or defensively.
REX: "Lets get it on!" Rex hollered, jogging up behind Ambrose as back up in case Thom broke away, which was just about garaunteed to happen.
THOM:And, finally, the game was on. Thom stole a quickly glance around to pick out his team mates, nodded Lauren ahead, then broke into a run as he neared Ambrose, swerving around the wolf man.
LAURENLauren rushed ahead trying her best to stay open in case Thom was in a bind.
REX: Rex saw the juke and curved in towards Thom at a run, jabbing at his feet to try and steal the ball away.
ANTONY: Antony immediately went after Lauren after seeing Thom's nod, having no problem keeping up with her longer legs.

AMBROSE:Ambrose murmured a curse, and slowed down to change directions before chasing after Thom's heels from the other side of Rex.
AMAYA: Oh damn, was this guy a pro or something? Amaya watched from the goal, keeping her hands up.
ALEC: Alec backpedalled quickly, quickly deciding he was going to back up the goalie as a blockade.
CASSIDYYikes. This Thom guy really was good. Cass had seen him play around by himself, but... wow.
THOM:Thom stopped the ball on a dime by placing a foot atop it, the other serving as a guard between himself an Rex. Spinning a quick circle, he scooped the ball with him and darted around the lion man's
THOM:other side, resuming his charge towards the goal.
KAVERI: Damn, it was all going too fast for her. Kaveri decided to hang around back to play defensively, knowing she would never be able to keep up with Lauren and Thom.
LAURENLauren saw Antony approaching and tried to dodge around her but knew she was being covered. Especially with all those damn tails.
ANTONY: "So much for having a team," she jeered at him, fluffing her tails out to help block Lauren from view. Finally, a use for the ******** grinned at Antony and her taking advantage of her ... attributes, but kept on Thom, trying to make it to the stopped ball before he could take a shot.
REX: "Darn, he's good." Rex muttered to himself. Dropping to a slow jog, their only hope now was Amaya.
ALEC: Seeing as two people had already been slid past, Alec figured it was his time to try something. Charging for Thom he skipped to the side and snapped his foot in an attempt to snatch the ball away.
REX: Ambrose needed his room anyways.
ANTONY: "Come on boys, play rough," she called to Rex and Ambrose. "He's not your granny!"
LAURENLauren finally found an opening as Antony was distracted, jogging foreward closer to the goal with mongoose speed.
THOM:"Well y'blockin' m' runner," he shouted towards Antony, but kept his eyes ahead. As Alec charged, he made another clever save, guiding the ball towards the right only to slip his foot around and give the ball
THOM:a swift kick towards Lauren.
REX: "Gooood stuff!" Rex furrowed his brow grinned evilly. He charged head-on towards Thom and jabbed his foot in wherever it could go. Rex needed a warm-up, get his head into the game.
AMAYA: Amaya ran to where Lauren seemed to be heading to, but stayed between where she and Thom were.
CASSIDYCass strained to see from her end of the field. It was all really confusing from this point of view.
AMAYA: Amaya ran towards where Lauren was the second she saw the white orb travel in that direction.
ANTONY: "s**t," she muttered to herself as she pelted to try and block the pass, but instead of trying to get ahead of Lauren, she simply charged her shoulder into the mongoose's.
THOM:...And was terribly glad he had done so when Rex's foot connected with his shin. After sending a kick of his own towards the lion man, he rushed to Lauren's aid after the ball.
ANTONY: Hopefully her weight would work for her.
LAURENAs Lauren went to kick the ball she was knocked down by the squirrels force. "s**t" She yelled as she fell.
ALEC: Alec snarled as he was absolutely dismissed, the skinny irish kid attempting to stop and change direction back towards Lauren.
LAURENShe did quickly recover but the ball was out in random play.
AMAYA: "Yay!" Amaya cheered for Antony.
ALEC: "YES!" He yelled and made a b-line for the stray ball.
ANTONY: Antony lept over Lauren, and went for the ball, turning and kicking it in the opposite direction of Thom.
NITA:Hey, isn't that a foul? Nita wondered. It had been years since soccer in gym-class, but... D:
CASSIDYCass was beginning to wonder how well she'd hold up if she got tackled. Especially by, say, that lionish-looking fellow.
THOM:One Lauren fell, Thom knew the ball was out of his grasp and doubled back to intercept the expected kick from Antony, muttering curses under his breath when it went off in a completely different direction and rushing after it.
REX: Rex caught the ball with his foot from the kick by Antony and said, "I think it's a throw-in, isn't it?"
LAURENLauren was realising why soccer wasn't a contact sport. It just didn't fit the game. She was onto her feet and ran to a more defensive position towards the goal hopeing to help recover the ball.
ANTONY: "No hard feelings?" She called after Lauren, keeping her eye on the Brit as ran to hold him up, allowing her tails to help block his view of the ongoings.
AMBROSE:Amrbose's ears pricked and he applauded his teammates. His adrenaline was starting to pump. This is how things were supposed to be.
THOM:Slowing to a walk, Thom nodded, letting Antony rush ahead and lingering back towards Ambrose. "Right, toss it in."
REX: Rex blinked confused, his mind blurred from the rules and jogged towards the sideline, ready to receive the ball.
KAVERI: Kaveri stood in wait as she watched the ball go towards her side of the field, poised to run up and body slam anyone who got near her. Mercy on the person who gets in the path of a charging tank!
ANTONY: "And here I thought we had permission to play rough." She scowled, slowing down and motioning towards Kaveri's earlier musings.
AMAYA: A thrown-in? Why? She blinked and slowed down from running back and forth in the goal whenever the ball got close.
CASSIDYCass shifted slightly, feathered arms spread, trying to prepare herself. Oh, yeah, she was going to get smacked in the head, she just knew it.
ANTONY: "You know, with Dickhead giving Kaveri permission to tank people."
ANTONY: There better not be double standards, she thought heatedly.
REX: Rex took a few steps out, figuring it was far enough to be considered 'out of the field' and threw the ball towards Antony over his head. Finally things were getting a move on...
ANTONY: Antony blinked when it was thrown to her and she let the ball bounce off her chest before passing it quickly to Ambrose with a swift kick. Afterwards she set off in a quick run upfield towards Cass.
ALEC: Alec darted into the opponent's section of the field, waiting for somesort of pass so he could make a shot on the goalie. "Uhh... KICK T' ME!"
CASSIDYOh no! Cass had to try not to panic and decided to just take up as much room in the goal as she possibly could. There was a lot of her... but not nearly enough to block the whole thing.
AMAYA: Finally the action was off of her. Relaxing a little, she watched the game start to move a little more down the other half of the feild.

Snacking in the Jungle

Alec Derring
Alec shuffled past the duplexes with a lax pace, head hung down as he munched on snacks he'd grabbed from the caf. His posture alone communicated that he didn't wish to bump into anybody on his way back to his own duplex, which was usually the case. Despite the apparent number of 'subjects', he still managed to evade a great deal of them by mistake.

As he passed by another, a sound caught the teen's attention enough to snap him out of his cacooned mindset for a moment. A scream of suffering that caused him to visibly shudder, resonating from within the nearest housing.

The punk youth stood dumbfoundedly, eyes shooting around the deserted area as if he was expecting someone to jump in and take charge. The horrible sound died out and surprise, no one came. "Geez." He hissed and held his arms close, staring at the doorway that led to the unmistakable noise. What if a person was being attacked? What if they were being held hostage? Tortured? He even considered running and forgetting he ever heard a thing.

Taking a sharp breath inwards, he stepped closer to the structure like it was about to swallow him up whole. he couldn't run, that wouldn't be right. Right?

A soft knock. No answer. He paused and knocked slightly louder. ".... 'e-..... 'ello?"

Joliette Rigiel
It took a few knocks to rouse her "Allo un momente" she called groggily and pushed sorely to sit and pulled her gi topp around her , she winced when she put her feet on the floor and then slowly hobbled tot he door "ow ow ow" she whimpered softly to herself as she pulled the door open looking at the person there with her now golden eyes

Alec Derring
Although he was generally unfazed by the response, Alec took a few large steps back when he heard someone hobble to answer the door just as he'd almost given in and left. He could hardly recognize the woman behind the door as being familiar, holding a firm grip on either arm as he stood wearily and edgy outside. "Uh..." He suddenly felt very out of place, embarassed that he might've misinterpretted the noise for some sort of sick play or something. "Ah ye... ekay? A' mean... a 'eard a scream o' somethin... A' mean... sorreh t'botheh..." The teen's voice stuttered like a broken record and he almost looked like he was going to make a run for it.

Joliette Rigiel
She blinked a few times her yellow tongue flickered, she knew that face... but it had changed. "Non... " she paused getting in some sort of frame of mine to reply, one hand rubbing her sore shoulder. "The red haired gormless arse gave me an injection" she scowled a low hiss emenating from her as she bit the words off a little . and then she stopped and looked at him again "Alec... oui?" she would have sighed but she felt like she was unable to draw the type of breath required for that

Alec Derring
Alec was surprised at the sound of his name, moreso her accent that seemed all too familiar. "Ye..." It took a moment for him to register what was going on but from what it looked like, the woman had recently changed, hence the onset of pain.

Her identity suddenly hit him and he felt a wave of relief, a save from yet another embarassing situation. This must be the french femme from the caf, Joli. But how did she recognize him so easily after so much change? They both looked like they'd been through the ringer since that first meeting.

A grimace before he continued. "Yeck, sorreh t'ear tha'.... ye need anehthin?" He realized he was holding food that she might need more than him at that point, always feeling the urge to offer somesort of comfort to a newly-changed victim.

Joliette Rigiel
"I will be ok..." she looks at her hands for a moment and down at herself "feet are what changed most, not full change" she touched her face "nothing different here" she didn't know her eyes had changed in color though she did notice the color difference. She glanced over her shoulder at her sleeping boyfriend then stepped out of the duplex moving to pull the door shut behind her. "I see you have changed... Sorry you got stuck here too"

Alec Derring
The irish kid followed suit and moved away from the door, though he wasn't sure why since he hadn't gotten a glimpse of the slumbering pile of fur that was Chubbs inside. He continued with the conversation instead, waving off her sympathy. "A' is'ekay. Nuthin ye c'n do 'bout i', aye?" He tried to crack a smile but he wasn't relaxed enough to allow his teeth to fully show from behind his lips.

In an attempt to redirect the attention away from himself, he moved on. "'ou've changed a lo'. A' think. No' bad though, s'don' worreh 'bout i'." He made a laid-back gesture at the comment, somewhat thankful that Joli wasn't freaking out any over her transformation.

Joliette Rigiel
"No, nothing" she glanced over him taking in his appearance. She heard his comment about her change and leaned against the doorframe a hand moving to her tail "Not so bad..." she repeated "I dont like it at all" her tongue flickered

Alec Derring
Alec couldn't help himself and leaned to the side to get a better look at her 'appendage', not understanding why someone could hate being turned into a dinosaur. "Ah, c'mon ye look cool." He went ahead and laughed at his own retort, figuring after that possibly girls didn't enjoy being turned into the things their purses and boots were made of. He could relate to that, oddly enough. Seeing as she wasn't looking to be easily won over by compliments, he hesitantly added. "'ave seen worse?"

Joliette Rigiel
I've seen much worse, but being turned from a vegan into the biggest carnivore lizard is not how I wanted to live my life" She shakes her head and looks at him "Uhm, any idea what you are becoming?" she made no effort to hide her jaggedy teeth as she spoke

Alec Derring
The fact that his attempts to cheer her up were failing horribly made Alec return to gnawing on his beef jerky instead of adding much to the conversation. That was until the spotlight was deflected back to him once again. "Uh.. sum... sorta shawk a' think." His response didn't bother him as much as his own uncertainty did but he wasn't about to start down that path right now. "A d'neh though wi' this stoof." The punk teen shrugged and rubbed his rough, dry elbows as he spoke. The question was enough to quiet him down until he merely gnawed on the jerky and said nothing more.

Joliette Rigiel
She nods "have you been doing ok since we last met?" she slid down to sit on the ground her feet hurting too much to stand at that moment. She adjusted her tail to be comfortable as she watched him

Alec Derring
Alec nodded and watched her sit down, feeling compelled to mimic the movement. "Ye, 'am alrigh'. No' too bad yanno." He slid down and sat in the grass a few feet from both Joli and the duplex, crossing his legs with a bit of effort seeing as his knee joints weren't as pliable as he would've liked. After a moment of thought, he gave in and pointed to his pointy protrusions while referring to his change. "Th'... teeth hur'." Chuckling a bit, he took another bit of jerky and popped it into his mouth. His change took place so long ago that it seemed like forever. Exactly how long had he been in this place? He never kept track.

Joliette Rigiel
"I can relate, a lot" she motioned a long claw at the jaggedy teeth in her own mouth. "Right now though it's my feet that hurt" she closed her eyes and relaxed soaking up the sun's warmth "He's sick, truely he is, to do this to people and seem to get pleasure out of it..."

Alec Derring
Alec visibly cringed as he listened quietly to what Joli had to say, reaching back to scratch at the grey skin of his neck out of nervous habit. "Ye.." He could only manage to curtly agree, not wanting to particularly go into detail how much he despised the man he'd only met once before. He was always watching, apparently. Better safe than sorry.

"We'll ge' off th's place soon." He quietly sighed for the sake of attempted optimism.

Joliette Rigiel
"I dont have a lot of hope in that but we'll see, we honestly will. " She gave him a weak smile "I should get something to eat, best way to control the Komodo.. want to join me?" she moved to stand up

Alec Derring
Alec started to respond with his mouth full of the dried meat he'd been snacking on for awhile now, "Pphhalloophoo." He tried swallowing and all was well until he turned a slighty more pronounced shade of blue searching desperately for something to drink. Finding nothing, he hacked a cough to clear his throat and shook his head sheepishly. "Neh th'nks. Joost been theh'."

Joliette Rigiel
"Ouch" she righted herself to her feet "Oh ok well perhaps another time anyways" She glanced at the door "Uhm I think I'll let him sleep... I hope I didn't worry you too much"

Alec Derring
Alec suddenly became aware of the other person who was evidently inside the duplex, leaning to the side on his sitting position only to glance up at Joli as she stood. "Boyfrehn'?" He smiled, liking the idea that there were people around who didn't care about looks. "Ah neh, am glad ye alrigh'." With that, the teen rose and stretched out his back. "A'll see ye 'round. Take care." He offered a wave and moved to continue his previous course back to his duplex.

Meeting a Cat at the Beach

Alec Derring
Alec shuffled out of the jungle on his path to the beach, plugged into his CD player and generally oblivious to anything around him. He stopped when the protective canopy overhead drew away and the hot sun struck his partially-bald head, causing him to glance up from the sensation and wince at the light.

He went ahead walking through the sand until he found a good spot just out of range of the rolling tide to sit. Tugging his shirt off, he tossed it aside and braced his hands behind him to relax and bob his head to the music.

Colche
As usual the little cheetah girl was headed down to the beach. However of late she had gone there with her damp nose in a book. She read outloud as she went decyphering the words as she padded along. She was still reading charlotts web. She was almost to the middle now though with Josh's help. Being able to read somethig so adveanced for her was a thrill, even more so because she understood the words.

As she stepped on to the golden sands though she tilted her head from her book to absorb the suns rays. A little puurr escaped her and she sighed happily. Life on the island was good to her. Humming to herself she peered around spotting a person she didn't know. Tilting her head in a curious manner she wondered, why did he have all those colours on his head? was it a part of his transformation? She giggled, how strange. Swaying her long tail she padded down the beach holding her book against her chest until she got to Alec and petted him on the shoulder with a furry paw "Hai!" she grins not particularily aware that this was one, a young man and that two she was butt naked on a beach.

Alec Derring
Alec would almost be startled by the sudden pat if he hadn't seen a shadow approaching from his peripheral vision. Besides, it took a little more to get the young teen jittery than simply a visitor. Glancing to the side quickly, he reached back to grab his CD player and pause it . "Aye?" He looked back only to see a very cheerful... and very naked girl. If the fact that she was devoid of clothes wasn't distracting enough, her vibrant spots were enough to confuse whatever sense was left in him.

"Uhh... Di' th's place turn in'teh a nekkie reso' when a' wasn' payin atten'shun?" He stammered and wondered if it was about time to look away or risk being called perverted. She looked friendly enough, but looks could be deceiving.

Colche
Colche blinks a few times. he had a funny accent! Hee! Kinda like Billys only even more confusing. She giggled quietly and sat with a sandy whump her furry tail making a long window wiper effect in the sand as it waved back and forwards almost in a dog like fashion "I'm Colche" she puurrs unsure still what exactly the young man had just said to her.

Tilting her head a little to look at him her perfect blue eyes went to his funny coloured hair and she giggled again "wazzat?" she asked pointing at the spikes of his multi coloured doo. Truely, she was facinated, was it hair? Her hair couldn't do that it was just all wavey and whee and stuuf.

Of course she didn't seem to notice he was stareing. Lots of people stared even when they'd had their first change, it was all the fur, she knew how pretty it was it was a nice thing to look at she even liked looking in the mirror at allt he purty shapes. The fact that she was sitting in the nude had nothing to do with the stares obviously.

Alec Derring
Alec seemed to mirror her actions and blinked as well, since apparently the girl was either hard of hearing, not quite all-there, or just didn't have a sense of humor. Or maybe the joke was inappropriate? This was beginning to really confuse him.

As she sat down, he cleared his throat and turned his attention back to the ocean to save himself the embarassment. "Colche?" He strained to repeat the exotic name but was convinced he wouldn't forget it's originality. "'Am Alec. Huh?" He blinked and looked to see what she was pointing at. Upon noticing she was referring to his hair, he made a toothy smile. "Wuh? Thas me 'air. Y'neveh seen a doo like i'?" Maybe she was from Sweden or something. "Wi' lotsa gel n' stoof, ye make i' stan' up."

Colche
Colche was getting very confused with this guys accent. Okay if she concentrated really hard maybe she could figure out what he said without sounding or lookign stupid. Her tongue poked out between her lips and she looked deeply thoughtful. "no never seed hair likes thats before" She grinned. yay she had partially deciphered his accent! "Alec" she puurred, okay easy name to remember, man with funny doo and funny accent alec. "was gel an'' stoof?" Having never styled ehr own exceedingly long locks gell and things were a bit out of her range of items she posessed. She did have a really nice hair brush though that never made her hair go all, all like a hedgehog.

Shje covers her mouth when she thinks of that stiffling a giggle though glancing again at the insane coloured mohawk she couldn't help but grin "look like multi colour hodgeyheg" she giggles "multicolour tiggywinkle" She grins refarreing to one of her story book chracters. of course only his hair looked like that the rest of him. Hmm, it would take some time todecide on a nickname for him though his accent was familiar. She just had to remember what it was from.

Alec Derring
Alec listened to Colche speak, amazed at how simplistic her language was compared to her obvious age. It made him laugh more than anything, she was definetly fun to listen to. "Gel. Is this goopeh stoof ye put in ye 'air, an' i' gets hawd an' then i' sticks th'way ye want i' to." The teen nodded at his own explanation, hoping it was sufficient.

"Tiggehwinkeh? Whassat?" The irish kid could barely keep a straight face as he repeated her own words back to her. "Ey, 'am no' a hedhe'og! Thas Emelyn's deal." He chuckled as he recalled meeting the spikey girl by the lake. Just then he noticed the item she was holding close by, gesturing to it in curiousity. "Whassat ye go' theh?"

Colche
Colche giggles "emlyn!" she hadn't seen the hodgyheg lady for a while but she really was mrs tiggywinkle. Smiling brightly she tried to decide what exactly gel was from the guys description. stuff you put in hair and it makes it hard. Okay..she still had no idea what it was. She would let the item slide for now maybe Josh could explain it better.

When he pointed to her book she held it out with a grin "Charlotts web" she puurred. "learn read I likes, bouta piggy ana spider and a barn yards" she grins. as she would never actually see a barnyard she had to imagine what that was but the book still facinated her and she was gettign along well with it now. The story was wonderful. She smiles at Alec, her tail swaying "likes learnings" she puurrs tugging the book back to her chest and hugging it.

Alec Derring
Alec murmured the title of the book, unfamiliar with it. He wasn't surprised that he had no idea what she was referring to, seeing as he couldn't remember the title of the last book he'd ever read in his life. The way the conversation was going, the teen was convinced that Colche was indeed much less mature-minded than most of the people he'd met, which made him relax a bit. Besides, if he made a big deal about her clothing malfunction now, he'd probably be disgusted at himself.

"Never read i'." He decided to answer shortly, not wanting to yell it out to the world that he wasn't exactly a literary genius.

Colche
Colche giggles and smiles at the young guy her tail tip twitching and sending up little showers of sand behind her. "Josh helpings. him muh learny man" She grins, by learny man of course she meant teacher but learny man sounded so much more fitting. After all he was learnying her to read and write and speak better!

Tilting her head a bit, she suddenly noticed that Josh had been through his firt change. With a grin she tilted ehr head curiously "was alec gunna be?" she asked in a perfectly innocent manner "I'ma princess cheetah" she giggled her blue eyes dancing playfully.

Alec Derring
Alec smiled, enjoying Colche's cheerfulness. Althought she mentioned someone he'd never met, he figured he wouldn't ask figuring it'd only be a matter of time until he randomly ran into whoever it was anyways.

"Ahhh, a cheeteh? Thas pretteh cool. A' figeh'd ye some'thn like a cat. Vereh spotteh." He chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck when she asked the question. "A' think a shawk. On account o' me teeth. No' sure though." He pointed out his sharp teeth but made a point not to look intimidating in any way. She may be farther along, but that never really meant anything in this place.

Colche
Colche tilted ehr head she had no idea what a shark was, wait, yes she did! There was one in the little mermaid it was scary! Alec didn't seem scary though. She frowned at the thought, not all things were good and bad she had to remember that though it was an exceedingly hard lesson to learn. "No look like scary shark" she stated after a moment of silence and thought on her part, gigglign she opened her own mouth to show those long caninesof the cheetah. "Bigger teefs than you" She grins and pulls a tongue playfully and flicking her head to throw her jet black hair from those perfect blue eyes.

"you be good swim?" she asked with a grin her ears flickering forwards and her head tilting a little "I knows how kitty paddle" The phrase really was doggy paddle but she was clearly a kitty so she kitty paddled.

Alec Derring
Alec smirked when Colche exposed her sharp canines, finding it amusing how the potential weapons looked less of a threat on the innocent features of the young girl as opposed to someone like Jamal. "S'good, a' d'n wanna be scareh. Ye don' got maneh frien's when ye scareh, aye?"

He chuckled and sat back to watch the waves for a moment, thinking over the question. "Eh, no' realleh. A' s'pose a' shoul' learn t'get betteh, aye?" The teen scratched the back of his grey neck in irritation. "Ahhh th'kitteh paddle? A' be' thas a lo' betteh than th'dog version. Ye shou' come swim at th'lake." It didn't occur to him that anyone else made the lake a frequent spot to visit since it seemed very deserted every time he made his way over there for a swim. It also seemed like a fairly harmless location, save for the jittery natives.

Colche
Colche giggled it was getting easier to translate Alec's accent though some of it still confused her. She was so usedto voices without any real accent.

flickering her takle she grinned and nodded. "better" she puurred happily she liked that some of her terms were aggreed to by others and were often clearly better. "lake purty has pixies" she grins refarreing to the lights that played on the water. she remembered all that time ago with Pyroth telling her about how little pixies played ont he water and made it shiny.

For a moment she was away in ehr own little world though she suddenly seemed to remember something, the book clasped against her chest "Oh noas!" she squeeked diving to her paws "have go lessons!" she blinked she'd only come down fr a quick swim. Smiling at Alec she gave another of those percectl;y innocent blue eyed grins "lives in seventeen" she stated before dashing off up the beach her tail whacking back and forth as she sped up her extra appendage acting as a rudder in her high speed flight.

Alec Derring
Alec looked confused as the cheetah girl rose to scamper away before remembering her mention her 'learney man'. "Less'ns? Ohhh... y'gonna go learn. 'ave fun!" He waved at her spotted form as it retreated from sight, giving a small smile before turning back to stare at the waves alone.

An Unsuspected Accompaniment

Yamamoto Kikue
Hearing Joliette's name brought more memories to the surface of Kikue's mind. The day trips to Paris. The southern countryside. The name of that church that she still couldn't remember; the one that she had mentioned to Sabin...

Kikue smiled herself, saying a quick "thank you" that was barely audible as she took the seat Joliette had gestured to. "I know. It's hard not to hear that from almost everyone I meet," Kikue said, thinking again of the people she'd met so far and their expressions at meeting yet another new person. It probably only spelled doomed for those that had been here so much longer. What were they going to think, since it only showed that Moreau must be making progress?

She tried not to think about it.

Shaking off the thoughts, she nodded, looking out over the ocean. "It is beautiful," she breathed, agreeing completely with Joliette. The wind brought the sea salt smell to her face, pushing her hair back. Cocking her head, Kikue nodded at Joliette's camera. "Are you a photographer?" she asked. It seemed like an obvious question, but the difference between an amateur and a professional was a point of some discussion, at least.

Joliette Rigiel
Joliette saw her lips move but didn't hear her words until after she'd sat down. "Was a photographic journalist actually, for World Weekly News when I came here, I've done freelance though not just contract" She reaches forward and caps the lens and pulls it off hte tripod and puts the camera down capped lens first on it's large lens then sits ont eh ground. "What did you do before coming here?"

Alec Derring
"This... definet'leh isn't th'way back." Alec sighed as he stared down from his new vantage point, being above the jungle canopy. A wrong turn again, it seemed. Served him right when he chose to walk with his mind not fully on the task at hand.

He'd never even been near the cliffs before, the mountainous mass of rock usually lost in the simple picturesque background the island provided. The punk teen decided to continue up for a bit more to take a look at what exactly was up here, though he hated the incline of the paths he chose. It didn't help that his 'habit' made it hard for him to catch his breath. "Damn." He breathed heavily, stopping to hold his hands on his hips and wipe sweat from his partially-bald head.

Yamamoto Kikue
Kikue looked over her shoulder, hearing a few loose rocks scatter. She wasn't afraid, but she was curious. She could hear someone, but they were still not in full view. "Did you hear that?" she whispered to Joli, nodding at the bend of the cliffs that she herself had come from. Standing up slowly, Kikue stood up on her tiptoes, aiming to see around the side of the cliff.

"Oh," she whispered back, "I'm a violinist." Then she nodded again at the sound of heavy breathing. For some reason she wasn't scared, but it could really be something threatening, for all she knew. She trusted Joli's instincts on the matter, waiting for her input.

Joliette Rigiel
Joliette looked around "No... I didn't" she couldn't hear low tones and she knew it. Her tongue flicked a few times "But scent is familiar" she sits straighter "Hello?" she asks

Alec Derring
The shuffling continued as Alec drew nearer, feet slipping slightly on a patch of particularly loose pebbles when he stopped yet again and coughed. The connection between his low lung capacity and his 'habit' never occurred to him, of course.

When he heard the voice call out he nearly lost his balance and fell backwards in shock, having not expected anyone to be up so high in such a secluded place. He was almost afraid to respond at first, so he held his breath and listened for a moment before replying with a tentative ".... Aye?" from down below.

Island of Moreau
It starts slowly. You've already noticed that the heat of the island is sweltering, and thus, when you start feeling warm... feverish, it is easy to pass it off as a particularly bad instance of the tropical temperatures. After reading of the snowy climates that your destined animal, the snow leopard, was from, it only seemed to make the overbearing summer in the Carribbean worse. Now, the snowy peaks that the cats call their home seem to taunt your mind with the respite as your body begins to sweat profusely.

It's likely only when dark rosettes begin to appear on your skin that you realize that what is happening is more than just heat exhaustion. The rosettes spread over your shoulders and down your back - mostly hidden by your clothing. However, the spreading white at the tips of your hair as shock sets in in undenyable. Your fingers and toes ache as your fingernails extend, sharpen, and seem to bore backwards down into your digits as they solidify. While not retractable yet, they are sharp.

Your ears ache painfully as they swell and change shape, rounding as a light dusting of white fur covers them. As you call out in shock, your canines lengthen and sharpen.

Finally, the changes subside, leaving you one of the "others", no longer completely human.

Yamamoto Kikue
It started with the heat. Kikue tugged at the collar of her yukata uncomfortably, feeling suddenly lightheaded. She could hear what must be another Islander responding to Joli's call, but it sounded faraway and muddled. Something isn't right. "Something's wrong," she got out, her voice coming out weak and not nearly loud enough. "Joliette --"

She fell onto her knees, feeling the sweat beading up on her face, no, all over her body, trickling down into her eyes so that they burned and stuck to the fabric of her clothes. What --

She grabbed her arms to herself suddenly, her back arching, still hearing things like pebbles scattering and voices muttering. Her hair was pooled on the rock and dirt of the ground, and that's when she saw it -- the white. It was spreading on the tips of her hair, not all the way up, but she saw it fade in like a stain. The transformation -- oh no --

Not knowing what to do, she tried desperately to keep her eyes from tearing as the burning ache crept into her toes and fingers. Holding them up in front of her eyes, she could see them growing, like claws, digging backwards into her skin, inside of her, a part of her.

The sound of the pebbles was suddenly much more acute and defined as that same ache jumped to upwards, to her ears. Kikue held her shaking hands over them, not daring to touch them; she couldn't see them, but she could suddenly hear everything, they must be changing too --

She shouted something in Japanese, Help me, just as the grinding ache resounded in her mouth. Grasping her mouth and chin, she sat on her knees in the rocky dirt, rocking back and forth, trying to tell herself to breathe. The tears ran silently down her face.

Joliette Rigiel
Joliette doesn't hear Kikue's plea, it's only when the female tumbles tot he ground that she notices hte distress the woman was in due to watching to see who was coming "Kikue?... oh crap" she added in french. She knew from personal experience there wasn't much she could do, but hope the woman didn't become violent like she herself had at one point. "It'll be over soon" she said quietly looking between Kikue and the approaching Alec

Alec Derring
About to make his ascent on the cliffside where the greeting originated from, Alec was stopped in his tracks by the sudden explosion of a painful scream. If the voice hadn't startled him, this definetly shook him to the core. The teen found himself ducking down, huddling out of sight of the figures above until they disappeared from the edge.

Despite his hesitation, he crouched still and waited even yet until the sound of soft sobbing echoed down the cliffside. "Wha' th'fook's goin on?!" He called out to whoever or whatever was up there, gathering his guts to quickly scramble upwards. Once he'd reached eyelevel with the two, he stared awkwardly from a short distance away without uttering a word, piecing together the scene he'd walked in on.

"...Aye." He repeated the greeting to Joli, but failed to recognize the woman she was holding in her arms.

Yamamoto Kikue
Kikue couldn't stop herself from crying. She did it softly, her vision blurred, as she had to nearly stop herself from clinging to Joliette. The tears ran down her face. She could hear the other Islander so much more clearly now; it was as if someone had flicked on a switch in her brain that controlled her hearing and finally let everything in. Yet she could barely see him for the tears, and the silent rocking of her body. It hurt. Everything hurt. Her changed fingernails, now so much like claws, dug into her skin as she hugged herself pitifully. She had no idea what to say to the approaching man; all she could croak out from her still-throbbing mouth was, "It hurts."

The guilt sat like a cold rock in her stomach. She wanted to disappear; she hadn't meant for this to happen. She already felt that she was imposing herself on Joliette, especially now; Kikue toyed with the idea of just fleeing on the spot. But her body was sore, too sore, and she did nothing except rock. Back and forth. Her mouth, closed or open, hurt too much, and she nearly panted in the outside heat. It hurt.

Joliette Rigiel
"Alec, she's changing" she looked up at him with a look that said 'uh help...' "perhaps we can help her into the shade, might feel better then the blazing sun on her..." She didn't know what to do, she had no pain killers, just her, her laptop and her camera and camera bag. She did her best not to let her claws dig intot he woman's flesh as she tried to offer her support

Alec Derring
Alec stood numbly nearby, staring at the two with a blank expression. Suffering. It wasn't something he thought he'd ever have to see living in the small town he'd grown up in. No one there suffered as bad as this. There were always the sick ones, but never such undeserved pain that bordered so close to torture that it made his stomach turn.

He noticed Joli's look, like she expected him to do something. What could he do? The pain was inside, it was an invisible enemy he couldn't fight against.

"Wuh?" He managed to utter stupidly, making it sound like he didn't understand anything that was going on. It took him a minute for it to sink in, for him to draw closer and stoop down to gently grip the girl's arm and brace another on the small of her back in preparation for her movement.

Yamamoto Kikue
Kikue was shaky on her feet. From Alec's support, she understood she was supposed to stand up. But oh, everything hurt. Her sandals were barely on her feet, the claws plain as day now, especially against the dark ground. She fought the instinct to shudder, fearing the pain it might send jolting into her body. Her hands were sweaty; all she could think about was cold, now, as the pain became a steady throb. It was so hot out here.

Her mind began imagining everything, anything, cold, to try and keep her from panicking. Cold. Snow, slush, hail, mountains, ice cream, ice cubes, cold drinks from the vending machine, cold drinks at a dinner party, cold mountain tops, cold snowy crags in mountains. She stumbled a bit, heading for the shade as Alec mostly held her upright. That was his name, wasn't it? Alec? Who was he again?

She felt sick to her stomach.

Joliette Rigiel
Joliette helped best she could to get her it the shade, her opinion it was Alec who did most of hte work, and soon she pulled her own stuff into the shade as well "Do we have anything we can get to dampen? theres a creek near here I think" she was watching Kikue "You ok?" she asked feeling concerned as well as unsure.

Alec Derring
Alec set Kikue down in the little shade that was available on the exposed, rocky cliffside. He figured her weakness was due to the painful change but as soon as his hand brushed hers he realized she was overheating quickly.

"Uh.." He stammered, stuffing his hands in his short pockets as he searched for something cloth-like. After tossing a few gum wrappers, he successfully produced a bandanna. Holding back the urge to tell Joli to find the so-called creek, the teen turned and strode off in search of some water.

Yamamoto Kikue
Kikue was aware of her mental daze, just barely, but couldn't get her thoughts to line of straight, which pressed her mind close to panic. "I've got to get back to my duplex," she rambled, knowing that she had the A/C on in it and that it was relatively cold. That was what she needed. Cold. Her body ached, the sweat still coating her skin. She couldn't dredge up the emotions to feel embarrassed or disgusted with herself. Instead she was bent completely on the very singular notion of coldness. Laying down in coldness and breathing it in deeply and going to sleep.

She had felt weary before running into Joliette on the cliff. Now she felt exhausted; drained. Swaying a bit, she gripped Joliette's arm with her hand, completely unaware of what her newly-grown claws might be doing to the scaley skin of the other girl. "I think I've got to go back to my room," she said to Joliette, her words tumbling out in a heavy breath.

Alec was walking off, she realized. He must have moved a rock, because her ears caught the sound immediately, straining painfully even with just a minute flick. She wanted to call after him, but her mouth was dry and her thoughts empty. Ijusthavetogettomyduplex. That'sall--

Joliette Rigiel
"Your duplex... uhm " she looked off in teh direction Alec went hoping he'd find the water, hoping it'd help long enough to figure out what to do "Uh which one is yours Kikue?" she really knew almost nothing about the violenist accept her name and that one fact and that in it'self was flustering for the Komodo-girl

Alec Derring
Alec heard the sound of running water before he saw it, quickly skipping down the rocky embankment to place the rag in the flowing creek. he was surprised to feel that the water was freezing compared to the blazing sun overhead, but he took little time to wet the bandanna before returning to where Joli and Kikue were.

"Go' i'." He murmured and tossed the damp cloth to Joli before he reached them both, coming to a stop a few feet away again. The girl looked horrible. "Now wuh?"

Yamamoto Kikue
"Duplex 48," Kikue answered, feeling quesy even as she struggled to gain some control over herself. She hadn't a thought in her head about what she must look like now; all she could focus on were the immediate needs standing out starkly in her head : Cold. Dark. Sleep.

"Thank you," she breathed, meaning every word, as she saw Alec and reached with a clawed hand for the dripping rag he held. The appearance of her hand shocked her for a moment, and she forced herself, though now shaky, to take the cloth and slap it over her forehead and face. The freezing water ran down her neck, causing dark spots on her clothes. She didn't care. The water felt so good. She had begun to lick it from the corner of rag sticking out over her chin, catching herself only after a half of minute of doing it. It made her already unstable situation worse; her face burned, the heat prickling over her skin. Gods, she had to get out of here.

"Can you help me back to my room?" she asked breathlessly, trying to stand. Her legs threatened to give out. They felt like jello. Struggling, she ended up grabbing onto Alec to stay on her feet, which shot pain up through her legs. "It's not far," she breathed, not even knowing what she was saying anymore. "Just number 48."

Joliette Rigiel
Joliette nods scooping up her belongings quickly and stuffing them in their bag "Alec you are gonna hve to do most of it... I'm a lil short... uh and I have stuff to carry too" she motions hte huge lense which she was hefting over her shoulder. as she prepped to help Kikue home

Alec Derring
Alec paid no attention to Kikue's seemingly delerious expressions or actions, mostly unfazed by the situation or at least forcing himself to feel that way. He was surprised and flustered when Kikue fell against him though he grabbed onto her waist to hold her up while giving an unsure look to Joli. "... ekay." He tentatively responded, already turning slowly to edge his way down the path while offering support to the ill girl.

It's not fair. His brow furrowed though he tried to focus on his task, glancing back once or twice even though they hadn't made it far, to make sure Joli was following. "Ye.... a' know." He mumbled quietly, uncertain if she'd heard him or not. 48 He thought over and over, seeing it as a finish line now.

How did he get himself into these situations?

Yamamoto Kikue
She walked with him, Joli's reassuring footfalls nearby. Kikue, uncharacteristically, rambled most of the way back to the beach and through the opressive jungle. At first it was a torrent of thanks to Alec ( she thought that was his name; where was she again? ) and Joli. Then it was about cold things, which had completely taken over her mind. She physically flinched stumbling into the jungle, the heat pressing in on her, the trees like walls closing in. She let out a cry midway through, feeling as if she couldn't take the heat nor the illusion of the jungle crowding in around her, obscuring the sky. It was a struggle to stay upright.

Her sandals were barely on her feet. When the village square opened up before them, she was still stumbling, yet trying to go faster. Her eyes flicked from one duplex to the other, feeling panic as she thought that hers might not be there. But it was, and she saw it.

Climbing the wooden stairs was especially hard, her feet sending jolts of pain up her legs at every raised step. At the door, she struggled frantically with the key, her clawed hands unfamiliar to her as she fumbled and dropped it to the ground. It was harder to pick up, her hands still thrubbing at the tips. Her damaged hand was especially hurting. Kikue gave up trying and pressed the key into Alec's hands, hoping he understood. "Thank you so very much," she got out again, having said it how many times before she had no idea.

Both of the other Islanders had something like pity or worry on their faces, but she couldn't really tell, and her body didn't care. She just wanted to be away.

Joliette Rigiel
The walk was quiet, well at least to Joliette it was, she was focusing on holding her stuff and trying to help Kikue, she barely even noticed as they approached the duplexes

Alec Derring
Alec thought he was about to pass out when he saw the duplexes peek from amongst the dense jungle walls, whether from relief or exhaustion from hiking and holding up the weakened girl. His head spun with worry, embarassment and anticipation as they climbed the stairs, each wince or cry from Kikue made him sick to his stomach to hear.

"Almost theh." He grimaced when she dropped her key, indicative of her poor state. "Aye, don't worreh 'bout i', ekay?" He replied in a kittery tone, fighting with his own shakey hands to open her door for her. Once he'd been successful, he gingerly brought her inside and towards her bed. Lying down would help.

"Sleep i' off." He instructed, with the only know-how he possessed. "an' mehbeh take a showeh t'cool off?" The irish teen looked back at Joli for somesort of affirming nod or support. "'Am Alec. 'Am in forteh-woon, Joli's in... twenteh.... tw-twenteh fav. Call if ye need 'elp." With all his nerves he'd nearly forgotten, but managed to muster his memory to remember Joli's duplex number.

Whether she was a new subject or not, Alec didn't care. He treated her as he would anyone else he felt responsible for, unable to think of any way else to help. He'd never rushed out of a room so fast as he exited her duplex straight past Joli and down the steps, heading for a nearby tree to sit underneath.

Yamamoto Kikue
Kikue was so thankful for his help. Nodding at his instructions, she sat shakily on the bed, the A/C of the room causing goosebumps to poke out of her skin. The sudden change in temperature didn't help her stomach, but she felt like she could finally breath. She forced her mind to focus enough to at least repeat the duplex numbers Alec was stating. "41. And 25. Alec and Joliette. Yes." She turned her grey eyes up to him, wanting for all the world to find some way to express her thanks at his and Joli's help. But there was nothing, no words, except, "Thank you. So much."

Kikue watched them go. When the door clicked closed behind them, she curled up shakily on her bed, breathing the cool air deeply. Undoing her yukata somewhat, which only now noticed was still wet with water and sweat, she closed her eyes. She needed to sleep. Just needed to sleep a little.

Already sinking into the darkness of her mind, it was only then she realized that she was still gripping Alec's cloth tightly in her head. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she felt all the worse for still having it. She promised herself she would return it...if only she could sleep.

And she did.

Under a Tree, Alone

Alec dragged himself back down the line of duplexes until he reached his own, but just as he reached the door he stopped. Feeling the need to be outside, he quickly withdrew from what he felt was a confining space towards a nearby palm tree.

The punk teen slumped underneath the broad, hanging leaves feeling stressed and otherwise on edge. What was wrong with him? He'd witnessed someone changing before, hadn't he....? When he thought about it, he couldn't recall one person. Sure, he'd offered solice to newly-changed islanders but never one so... soon? It shook him up, to say the least.

Was everyone there on that island to help one another? Would they be there for each other like siblings or parents or even lovers could be? Why exactly were they all here anyways. Would they help him too, when he needed it the most?

What was going to happen to him?

Well he knew the answer to that. He was going to change -into God-knows-what at this point- and forever be changed from the rowdy, energetic teenager from Belfast. Who was that guy anyways? He'd never cried over pain before, helped someone else and wish with every fiber of his being that they'd be ok. Hell, if one of his friends hurt themselves he'd probably had offered them nothing but a good laugh. But now look at him.

He was sitting there. Under a tree. Shaking in fear.

Of what?

That was a good question. It wasn't just Kikue's change that frightened him. In fact, that really didn't bother him at all. He'd dealt with things like that before. It was more.... her expression. Her sound. Or perhaps the look in her eyes.

It was like the look Amaya sometimes had. Helplessness? Sorrow? he couldn't really tell. He was never really good at stuff like that.

It was then he noticed the heat of the jungle, suffocating to say the least, and he was shivering like it was 40 below. He reached for the cigarette box he knew was in his pocket and retrieved it quickly, but stopped dead still when there was nothing more. Rummaging, the irish kid was just about turning his pockets inside-out when he realized his lighter was gone. It must've fallen out when he'd given Kikue his bandanna. It was somewhere on that damned cliffside he knew he'd probably never frequent again.

Great. ******** great. Throwing his head back until hit the rough bark on the tree behind, he felt his eyes sting as he choked back a sob until he made no noise at all, simply sitting and staring upwards at the massive blur of green and grey.

I wanna go home...
