The Stand? you mean Stephen King's The Stand? It's horrible!!!! gonk I get annoyed reading his books, it starts of so great with all this depth and detail but the ending isnt worth fly puke.
Of Mice and Men was good 3nodding I read it before GCSE which was good, since everyone who studied it for English got completely sick of it.
Szin: Read Watership Down!! The book is so much better!
The books I really love reading right now are the Sherlock Holmes ones. I got bought the complete set the other day. Absolutely spiffy.

I just didn't like the 3rd one, more specifically the ending of the book.
I blame LOTR. I know it isn't the best book in the universe, but after I read it, I haven't really found a book that's kept me captivated the whole way through and/or not ended in disappointment.

Some of the stuff in there is pretty heavy.

Laydee Chups I absolutely hated the Dark Materials trilogy!! The ending was just... gonk scream stressed It started off so well and then went to pot. Stephen King also sucks now. The Dreamcatcher made me feel sick after I read it. The ending of HDM was... yeah... but, It's great on Stage, in the Adaption.

From the Waterstones and Channel 4 one I particularly recommend 'American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis ' and 'The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks ' to anyone who hasn't read them. They are definitely... mature books though.

Teh Yuri No Jutsu Of mice and Men is actually a short book, it's not really that long. more like short and straight to the point...they made a good Movie of it too starring Gary Sinise and John Malkovich Okies will add to list Laydee Chups I just didn't like the 3rd one, more specifically the ending of the book. I blame LOTR. I know it isn't the best book in the universe, but after I read it, I haven't really found a book that's kept me captivated the whole way through and/or not ended in disappointment. LOTR is by far the best fantasy work I've read so similar books do pale in comparison. 3nodding Tend to read more Sci-Fi than fantasy, though they can mix well see Iain M Banks. Or Iain Banks if Skiffy isn't your thing. The man is sickeningly talented even his travel book was good (And about good whisky whee ) Edit: Szinriia From the Waterstones and Channel 4 one I particularly recommend 'American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis ' and 'The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks ' to anyone who hasn't read them. They are definitely... mature books though. Bugger!

Looking at the Top 100 books of the 20th century list I have also read:
Trainspotting. Irvine Welsh The diary of Anne Frank. Anne Frank A clockwork orange. Anthony Burgess Lolita. Vladimir Nabokov The wasp factory. Iain Banks The name of the rose. Umberto Eco The unbearable lightness of being. Milan Kundera The handmaid´s tale. Margaret Atwood It. Stephen King American psycho. Bret Easton Ellis Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Hunter S. Thompson A brief history of time. Stephen Hawking James and the Giant Peach. Roald Dahl Lady Chatterley´s Lover. D.H. Lawrence The bonfire of the vanities. Tom Wolfe 2001 - a space odyssey. Arthur C. Clarke Jurassic Park. Michael Crichton High fidelity. Nick Hornby
I have: Long walk to freedom. Nelson Mandela, but haven't as yet felt like reading it. My dad obsesses over Delia Smith books & had too many. I think Carol may have banned them from the house.

3nodding I shall look into that.
Yea, LOTR just seemed to blow everything else away. I love sci-fi and fantasy.. it got to a point where it was almost obsessive. Everyone who worked bookstores from Uxbridge to Ealing knew me by name sweatdrop T'was good though, because I never had a problem reserving or ordering a copy of anything. 3nodding
