He knew perfectly well what Gevauden was trying to do; how much he was trying to provoke him, probably just for the sake of provoking him, but he was bloody well not going to give the other knight the damned satisfaction of just that.
He didn't answer the taunt. Instead, Emrys just swung the staff around again, teeth gritted together, his eyes flashing.
Eurydike hadn't been ready to move; instead he'd just shot Gev a look and started off with, "Gev, please, c'mon, don't do this - " But then Emrys swung into action and there they were, absolutely doing this, it'd immediately escalated and they were actually, legitimately ******** fighting each other, and - at first, he was so shocked about it that he was kind of dumbfounded. It took him a second to find his voice to shout, "Stop it! Both of you, c'mon!!"
"Not so talkative now. You wanted this. Second I said hello, you wanted this." He said, taking the hit and returning his weapon to throw it once again at the knight.
Eurydike called out to both of them, and Gev had to avoid hitting him too.
Gevauden's weapon crashed into him, a painful ricochet on impact that had Emrys' bad leg shrieking in pain. He staggered sideways, gasping for breath, and nearly toppled over, catching himself at the last minute by slamming the end of his staff into the grass to balance himself.
"Because," he managed to get out as he straightened. "What gives you the right to tell any of us what to do? What to be? How to act? Longevity? That doesn't make any bloody difference in a war. You think just because you were once a Negaverse ******** that you know better than all of us?"
He was dimly aware of Eurydike yelling in desperation, but Emrys' heart was racing, adrenaline pushing him past the agony in his bad leg. He lunged forward again, this time sweeping the staff towards Gevauden's upper body, wanting to land a blow across his chest if he could.
"You don't get to tell others how to be, Gevauden."
"It does matter. It's called experience you little p***k. Or don't you get that fighting for 8 years means you might have learned a thing or two compared to some a****d right off the street? And what I say is an opinion. You can take it or leave it. I couldn't give 2 shits about what you do with it, but I guess what you're really pissed about is that I was from the Negaverse." He took the hit to the legs and moved in, leaving his weapon on the ground.
"I guess purification doesn't mean s**t to you. Before even giving me a chance, you formed your opinion of me ever before I even talked. I don't know what the ******** your brother said about me, but if he has a problem them maybe let him fight me."
Was he ******** kidding - "You're seriously gonna try an' say this s**t's just trainin'!?" he half-sputtered, and they didn't even ******** miss a beat. Honestly, at least Gev acknowledged him, even if it was a bullshit answer; Emrys didn't even ******** look at him.
Shock gave way to something else, hot and sputtering in his chest - and it was kind of funny, because since the night from hell, he'd been so broken down, angry, yes, but in a less heated way, coupled with misery and confusion and pain - now, though? Yeah. He was just straight up pissed.
Then to hear Gev making those assumptions, on top of those assumptions Emrys had already made, all this bullshit being flung for no ******** reason while his friend flung a blow at his husband's head -
"I SAID ENOUGH!" he snarled, smacking his hands together - "Sodom's Plight!*" - and with a flare of white, he spread his arms, pillars of salt erupting from seemingly nothing around the knight and the squire alike.
*Eternal Sailor Attack: Sodom’s Plight Eurydike places his hands together; a brilliant white glow gathers around them, and he spreads them wide. Small pillars of salt erupt from the ground, starting roughly three feet from Eurydike himself and extending about ten feet further in a triangular perimeter. If one of these pillars touches an opponent’s arm, leg, or whatever else it may come into contact with, the salt encircles this portion of their body, inhibiting their movements for ninety seconds. This is very difficult for anyone at a lower level than Eurydike to break prematurely. If no contact is made, the pillars vanish after thirty seconds.

"Strange, to hear someone such as yourself call anyone little -"
His leg was shrieking with pain now, every movement a reminder of this fact, Emrys stumbling as he tried to swing the staff around. He pushed past it, pushed past the consistent reminder that he was more pathetic than the rest of them, weaker than them all; just an anxious mess of too much inside of his head and not enough of anything else.
He was so tired of being weak.
The blow from Gevauden landed before Emrys heard Eurydike's scream of attack, magic exploding around them, catching them all off guard. He stumbled back, pain ricocheting through his jaw, and possibly he'd split his lip, because he tasted blood - but at least the hit had been not quite as strong as it might have been, had not the pillars of salt appeared between them.
He collapsed onto the ground, gasping, chest rising and falling rapidly. Emrys looked up at Gevauden, and in spite of the fact that he knew he'd lost, there was a strangely triumphant gleam in his eyes; something wild and fierce and uncharacteristic.
"No," he said, and his voice was hoarse. "Purification means a great deal to me, considering that I was from the Negaverse. It's what you do with it that makes a difference."
He began to struggle to his feet, trying to ignore the agony of his bad leg.
"Celsus is free to fight his own battles. This was for me."

Eurydile's boomed around them and suddenly pillars and magic crackled sround him. Stumbking back, his arm touched one and was quickly encased in salt. Panting hard, he glared back at Emry.
"And what did your brother say I was doing? I came to train and all I did was say Hi to you and you were instanty pissed off. What great wrong did I do cause I'm still ******** confused."
It hurt to have the fact he was a Negaverse agent thrown in his face like an insult, but even more from a fellow comrade. One as a previous officer and also a current knight.

The whole ******** mess left Eurydike more confused and pissed off than ever, although that didn't stop him from going to his husband's side. He saw Gev's glare, and met him with a look and a wide gesture to his husband and then back at the knight, all capped off his a heavy shrug of his shoulders - saying without so many words 'what the ******** else was I suppose to do?' Nobody was ******** listening to him.
His fingertips grazed Emrys' cheek lightly before he held out a hand to help him up - although he'd always been an open book, and his concern did not overrule his frustration about the whole thing. Even if he was no less pleased with Gev at this point, his questions were more than ******** fair, and he echoed them with a probing, "Babe?" It wasn't like him, not at all - and if it was for him and not for Celsus' honor or whatever, then what the hell? Did it not matter that he was Eurydike's friend or - what?
His hand closed on one of Eurydike's bracers, grappling for a second, before Emrys used him to lever himself vertical again. His leg felt as though it was on fire, and it was taking every effort he could muster not to scream with the frustration of it all, the anger that he was not as good as the rest of them and never would be.
He should care that he had basically instigated a fight between a complete stranger and himself. He should care that he had pushed himself far, far too hard, and that now he had a bleeding lip and an agonized leg and a headache, but he didn't. He could still feel the adrenaline in his veins, though it was dying down somewhat now.
Emrys swallowed hard, tasting blood. He looked at Gevauden for a long, silent moment, then said, "I'm ready to go home now," in a quiet, slightly hoarse voice and pushed himself away from the others, limping slowly towards the edge of the field.

Gevaudan shook the salt off his arm and took a breather, hands on his knees as he watched Emry and Eurydike. No reason was given and Emry only wanted to leave.
Typical.
Now he was down another possible friend cause he couldn't control his temper.
"Whatever." He grumbled. Some stranger wasn't even going to remotely win against someone's own husband. Probably better for Eurydike who had to go home with him.
She had done well for herself, hadn't she? Meissa was of a firm mind that if it hadn't been for the moments before meeting Richtersveld that she might have been able to hold on just a little longer. Wiping her face with a towel she found on the table the teen eyed the snacks remaining and made a move to snag a few bites.
The whole experience had been fun but now she found herself ready to head home. Maybe there would be a chance to dust a youma on the way home ... if she were lucky. And even luckier if there were no youma. Clenching her fists Meissa grinned before disappearing into the night. She'd need to remember this event and keep an eye open for others like it.
