Aviont'e took his seat in the class and flipped through some of the questions. Cringing inwardly at how much he realized he really....really...really didn't like science. Taking a deep breath, the hybrid cracks his knuckles and digs into the test.
After finishing and getting his score, he feels like crawling into a hole and never returning again. It took him a few moments of mental banter to pick himself up and give it another go. Hopefully this time his score was better.
Feeling already crushed from his first score, once he saw his second score....it was almost a breaking point in his mind. He had to excuse himself from the class a moment to the bathroom to panic for a moment and wash his face before returning to class to try again, his hands shaking and tendrils shifting anxiously.
His hands shook so badly as he took his paper back, hand covering the graded score as he tried to gather his wits to see it. Closing his eyes and placing it down on the desk, hands gripping the side of the desk so tightly the knuckles turned an interesting shade of yellow. He finally cracks an eye open and focuses on the score at the top.
91!
He exhaled so loudly it would probably startle the closest student and slumps his head down onto the tabletop, heart pounding at the passing score. "Ugh."

The little hybrid found what their teacher thought to be good news questionable at best. Avilan felt ambivalent about the whole permanent-teacher thing. He never met the previous Science teacher so as far as he was concerned Mys Grey was the only Science teacher there was.
But the field trip? Oh that one. Yes, that one was... not received particularly well. While the other freshlings in his class seemed to take to the beach, Avilan hated it. The sun was too bright, the water was too cold, and the sand. Oh the sand! It was just, well, it was just too everywhere and he couldn't get rid of it. He could have sworn some of it even got in his bed (probably having fallen out of his long hair.)
And now he was forced to tackle the assignment and he was stumped. He tried to think of something he could write about and in the end, the little hybrid wrote: My favorite part of going to the beach was eating our lunch there cuz I make awesome sammiches. And there was something about the way the wind smells that made food taste tastier. Oh! And I like the wind, I guess. It was real strong and helped me get more air in my wings. Still can't fly very good but the wind helped.
Avi felt satisfied with his answer and even more satisfied that he managed to refrain from complaining about the trip. It had been hard for the freshling to hold his tongue, err, pen in this case.

The nixie in Xelva was positively elated that they were going to the beach. Even though she ended up smelling of wet fur after playing so much in the water, the little hybrid thought it was worth every second. She did feel a little sad that there were these freshlings who didn't even go in the water. At all! She didn't understand how they could keep themselves from diving. She had to control her urges of wading out into the deeper parts.
When it came to their assignment, Xelva thought she was being brilliant and creative in dunking the paper in a glass of water. To show what her favorite part of going to the beach was. She realized too late that she wouldn't be able to write anything on the soggy pulpy mess.
On her second sheet, Xelva wrote: I loooooooooove love love love the water! It was so much fun swimming and splashing and playing with my classmates! It was cold but it was ok for me. So I played more to warm up and moving lots helped! Thank you for taking us! Can you take us again soon? <3 Xelva
Cherubi had grabbed her purse, sending a text to Conan stating where she'd be before huffing as she traveled to arrive to star-gaze. This wasn't her thing, honestly. She liked stars, sure! She also enjoyed viewing them, absolutely! But spending a part of her day not designated to classes to trudge outside and stare at the sky she already had seen? She could be doing much better things with her time. Such as, flirting with her new boyfriend, or working on new clothes, or, even better, trying said new clothes on new boyfriend.
But no. She had this to do.
Giving a smile to the teacher when she arrived, the Chimera sighed softly as she settled on the ground, folding her wings firmly around her body.

Litla enjoyed this class, and, honestly? The idea of getting away for the night to gaze at stars? It sounded nice. Relaxing, even. Things had been stressful, and Litla was having a hard time coping. She always had. She needed medication, but to get that you had to admit you had a problem and seek out help.
But, back to stargazing. She was excited. She had grabbed a blanket, her phone, and dressed in warm clothing, meeting up with the group hosting a tiny and polite smile. Squeezing by, she hid herself amongst the group, tail rolling into her lap.

Enfys huffed, tapping the edge of the pencil's eraser against the paper, as she considered the field trip. The wind had been fierce--well, okay, it hadn't been that bad but she was little, it'd felt like she weighed twice as much--and she'd been cold. Even with a warm wool sweater and a light windbreaker, the gusts had blown right through her until she was a miserable little thing, shivering and chattering as if she was in a freezer. Okay, she might have been exaggerating a little (or a ton) but still the trip hadn't lent itself to actually being fun. So what, then, did I enjoy?
The pencil tip scratched against the paper, I really liked seeing the wildlife and counting the seashells that had washed up on the shore. I think the clam shells are by far the prettiest and I would've liked to have brought some home. I counted a whole 7 clam shells and lost count of how many snail shells there were. I'd rather study them in the classroom though. It's way too cold outside.
She really had liked the seashells but the beach was not for her--at least not while it was so cold. She slid off her chair and wandered up to her teacher, glancing around at the others who hadn't finished the assignment, before placing it in the tray that was reserved for homework assignments.
Gwen was so nervous about retaking the science test she had failed before, she had spent all her time studying.. Now she bite the end of her pencil, afraid she would fail again and then what would she do with her life?? Science was Gwen's life what else would she do?? Gwen finished her test and turned it into the teach, she felt better now, more confident that she had known the answers to the test.
Phaedra tucked her hands under herself and frowned. She had, unfortunately, found the beach to be a little insufferable; the breeze constantly whipped her hair in her eyes, sand got everywhere, and she had gotten a little sunburnt! But she had to find some positive aspect of it... Sighing softly, she looked down towards her paper and wrote down: "I'm happy we went on the trip because I have never been to the beach before. It was a new experience. But the beach was... okay. I did like how there were some performers every now and then... They played some nice tunes. One of them offered to teach me how to play the trumpet but I turned him down because he was kind of smelly. Oh, and the seagulls were okay too. I liked how I could walk up to them and they weren't scared of me..." Feeling as if she had nothing to add, she turned in the assignment.
Mao tilted her head at the news. She was not even aware the subsitute teacher was well...a subsitute. She had assumed Mys Grey was already a permanent teacher. Shrugging a little, she instead focused on what truly had mattered; the field trip! It had come and go, and the freshling had been ecstatic for the trip and enjoyed it truly. The beach had been exciting for the bakeneko; in many ways, aspects of it reminded her of her home! So when it was time for her to do her assignment, she wrote: "I looooooooved the beach!!!! My favorite part is that it was just like home! I got to play in the sand and lay down and bask in the sun and it was so great!!! And I actually had fun playing with the other freshlings, too. But we didn't stay long enough. I wanna go back..."
Atoli had gone to the beach with their siblings and while each seemed to have radically different views on how it was, overall, Atoli enjoyed themselves. They enjoyed especially wading in the water, as per their nixie blood. They were plenty excited to detail their favorite thing about the beach in their assignment, though. "The beach was so great. My favorite thing about the trip was that I got to go with my siblings. I had so much fun playing with them. I think me and Papaya upset Lumi though, because I tossed some sand at her...for fun...and Papa chucked some seaweed at her! She was SO mad. So I didn't mess with her after... But for the beach.... I really loved the water! I didn't go too far into it because I didn't want to get my wings wet, but I liked wading in the water and kicking it up and splashing it."
Luminoire had originally been excited for the beach, but after going, she could easily say she did not enjoy herself. Her sibling Papaya thought it would be so clever to chuck seaweed at her. And Atoli tossed sand at her!!! They did stop when she told them to, which was a relief but... The whole thing soured her view on the beach. Trying to remember what she did enjoy about the beach... She paused and tapped her chin before writing. "I went to the beach with my siblings...and while I could complain about them, I won't!! I found a really pretty shell on the beach, though. I spent a lot of time walking around and collecting shells. My favorite is a conch that I had to hold in both my hands! So I guess my favorite thing about the beach is shell sca-ven-ging. My mommy taught my that word after my trip!"

Stargazing? That was the sort of assignment that Hailey could stand by. Nothing brain-frying. Nothing that required deep thought. Just the chance at learning hands on! Excitedly, she tugged on her boyfriend's sleeve and started talking about what fun it could be, and maybe a bit romantic!, as she added in a brow waggle. Of course he squished that rather fast, but they both laughed and talked about what they'd need for it.
When they showed up to the field, Hailey had stolen one of Malachi's sweaters and was cozied up in it as she clung to his arm. They gathered with the rest of the class, and Hailey had to admit that she was quite amazed at the few of the nighttime sky on it's own. She sure couldn't wait to get her hands on a telescope to check things out on a closer level.
As the evening ran on, Hailey found herself tired and nestled on the ground, leaning against her boyfriend's legs under the blanket he brought. Mmmm... she had fun getting to look at the stars, but now she was ready for sleep.

Nex had enjoyed the beach, sure. It wasn't his favorite place, honestly. It was loud, and the smell of the ocean stung, but Nex had a fun time for the most part. When requested to state his favorite thing about the beach he had to think long and hard. What had he enjoyed the most? The water? No, it was far too big and intimidating. The sand? No, it only served to get stuck in-between his toes, later cascading through his clothes when he tried to shake them off when back home. What had he enjoyed the mo- oh. He knew.
'I liked the shells the most. I had fun looking for shells for my friend. It was my first time at the beach. Maybe next time I'll ask my mother to take me so we can search for shells together.'
Samara slumped back into her seat, feeling a wave of relief wash over her when she got the news that she had finally passed her test. She'd been studying really hard, and had even gotten some help from a new friend, Newt. She looked forward to being able to share the good news with him, and resolved to work harder so these retakes didn't happen again. She definitely didn't want to disappoint her Grammy!

The first page doesn't say, but what is the passing score supposed to be? It only mentions rerolls, not passes.
Geyser Eelborn
A passing grade is any grade you don't have to reroll.
Oooooh. I thought it followed the grading standard of 70 or above to pass.
