"Nuh-uh, it's cuz there's usually nothing interesting or useful to me on those shelves," he pouted, raising his hand to playfully swat Hikari away with the piece of paper. "Liar, you're just mad you can't get your face lower to the ground without having to lie down.""The hell kind of argument is tha--"
Some movement from ground level caught the Riolu's attention, the small canine creature cocking his head to the side curiously. What was this? What was it called agai--- oh! A bird! He only recognized it being a bird because of Sage, where they both had wings. "Tsu!" Yuu piped up, tapping his paw against the boy's other cheek and promptly interrupting him. "Tsu, look! What's this one?!" Tsubin let out a groan about his face getting assaulted by his two pokemon, this time actually reaching up and brushing Hikari's arm from his face before looking down at where Yuu was now pointing. "... What the..." A small orange avian was approaching them. "Is that a Torchic?" Quickly reaching into a different pocket of his pants, he pulled out his Pokedex and turned it on, pointing its sensor at the small bird. The screen confirmed its identity almost instantly.
"Weird." Tsubin slipped his Pokedex back into his pocket and squatted down to lower himself so he was more at eye-level with the little bird. Of course as Hikari pointed out, he was still too tall for that, and the bird would definitely fit on most of the product shelves in a market, including the bottom ones. There was still a decent amount the bird would have to tilt its head back to look at him. "Are you a wild Torchic?" he asked it. He paused momentarily to think about it. Did this Torchic even understand him? Most of his Pokemon so far could understand human speech, and he seemed to forget not all of them could easily respond back. "No, no, you can't be wild. You're one of the starters from the lab, right? Don't you have a trainer already?"

Aelin brushed a few strands of brown hair from her face as she decided to name her two pokemon. That way they would feel more... Loved? Needed? Whatever. "I'm going to name you..." She said, thinking slowly about what to name the small dragon. He had small tusks... Which reminded her of bones... Which in turn reminded her of soup. Hmmmm, soup... "Broth. How does that sound? Broth, because of your tusks." the girl said grinning. The Axew tilted it's head but then did a chuckling sound and twirled around. "I'll take that as a yes."
As Aelin was naming Axew, Torchic tilted it's head as the Riolu got it's trainer's attention and pointed at her. "Tor! Torchic!" The small bird said flapping it's tiny wings and nodding as the trainer turned towards her. When he pulled out a device that said it's name, Torchic tilted it's head again and waited. She was just curious what the trainer had been carrying. When he bent over and asked where her trainer was, she flapped her tiny wings again and looked back towards the way of the exit of the town. The brunette was still in view, but hadn't quite noticed yet. Or... Really just took notice.
Aelin turned to start naming Torchic, and noticed she was gone. Where in the? "Axew! Axe Axe!" The Axew crooned pointing one of it's paws... Or hands? Or whatever, towards the way the curious little bird had gone. Raising her eyes the way of the pointing appendage, Aelin's eyes went wide as she saw her Torchic flapping it's wings at a trainer with a ghost and a pup near his face. She stood quickly and jogged over, picking up the Torchic, Aelin blushed. "Oh I'm so sorry. She wasn't bothering you was she? I only just got her and haven't quite gotten adjusted to having a curious pokemon." She said quickly, trying to explain herself. The Axew bounced next to her ankles.
↳Oh, thank goodness for general and recognizable gestures. Tsubin's head turned in the direction the Torchic looked in, a clear sign that the bird did understand what he said. It did indeed have a trainer, much to his relief. It was a good thing they weren't too far away. "Ah, hello," he greeted, standing back up as a girl approached and picked up the little bird. The Torchic was identified as a female during the apology, and taking another look, Tsubin couldn't tell the difference anyway. "No no, she wasn't a bother at all. Seems like they're all curious when they get to be out like this anyway." Aoi sort of acted the same, but was a tiny bit shier about it, as he recalled. She didn't seem to want to leave the hood of his jacket, but contentedly rode behind him as she looked around. It hadn't been all too long since his last run-in with another trainer and her pokemon anyway. He just hoped the Mudkip picked up on cues for later. He couldn't have her starting fights with pokemon who were just being as curious as the Torchic.
And then it came to his attention again, that this girl before him was another trainer like him. And like the last girl he ran into. Awkwardly, he averted his gaze to the surrounding trees. "I uh... hope you didn't also come over here for a battle, cuz.... I'm not prepared for one yet."

Aelin brushed some of the feathers ontop of the Torchic's head back in an attempt to soothe the Torchic who didn't want to be held at the moment. Aelin smiled slowly as the boy infront of her said she hadn't been a bother. Seems he knew exactly what she was feeling with the curious little orange pokemon in her arms. After a moment of wriggling, Aelin let the bird down again so that she could chase the Axew around her ankles. "Oh good. I'm glad she wasn't. Like I said, I just left the lab with her, so I wasn't quite ready for so much energy I suppose." She chuckled a little bit. Rubbing an arm, she watched the two at her ankles to make sure she didn't step on them. Looking up, Aelin watched his pokemon around his face. There was fire within the ghost. She loved that.When he averted his gaze, a slow color crept along her cheeks when she realized they were both trainers. "W-well I'm not sure if I would be any good for that right now. So uh... No if you don't mind. Maybe... Once I have learned a little from my new team." She said gesturing towards the two running around.
"So, uh... Rain check?" She grinned. "But that does mean I need to know your name so I can track you down at some point. I'm Aelin. Aelin Incaendium." She chuckled holding out a hand to offer a hand shake. Of course she was kidding but might as well make a new friend yeah?
As their trainer talked with the other trainer, Broth and Celery wanted to explore. They were both super adventurous, and now that the Torchic was no longer at the Lab, she could see the world! Too bad her trainer got stopped immediately... Oh well. Pecking the Axew softly to get it's attention. "Let's explore while she talks!" She said waving a wing over towards the buildings and the grass. They wouldn't go far. The Axew looked up at the two trainers and then back. Nodding, Broth followed the orange bird towards the side of the buildings. What was around here? What could they find?
Quickly noticing that the Axew was following, Celery turned behind a building and out of sight of Aelin. She giggled, they were doing stuff! That was awesome, not just watching her trainer talk. She looked around, what could they do? It didn't take long before she saw a box next to the trash. What was inside? Waddling towards the box, she stuck her beak under the lid and opened it. Broth waddled up behind her and helped open the lid. Inside was some items. Berries, a disc, two pokeballs, and some other stuff. Tilting his head, Broth his the button on one of the balls and a Voltorb popped out. A new friend?

↳She was also a trainer, yes. But she was as unprepared as he was. Tsubin let out a small sigh in relief at the news. "Well, I'm... glad to hear that," he said with a small awkward laugh. "I haven't actually seen what kind of moves most of what my team knows just yet, save for two of them. That'll help in probably the near future." Hikari's seemed to be changing constantly ever since they started out on their trip, actually. He wouldn't know of any part of it if he didn't have her show him anything she knew before they left Pacifidlog. And Aoi.... finding out what most of her attacks were was mostly accidental. Perhaps checking his other pokemon on his Pokedex next time would help. Tsubin's gaze turned to Hikari as she peeked around him, curious about the other trainer. "Still gotta figure out how and why you evolved so early too."
His eyes turned back to the girl as she mentioned needing his name for another time. "Oh, I'll definitely be down for a battle some other time," he said, beaming as he took her hand, accepting a friendly handshake. "Tsubin Itoshi. Nice to meet you, Aelin." Hikari orbited a little further out in front of him, the end of her spindly arm slipping over wherever her mouth supposedly was. "Oh my, we finally get to do a proper introduction?" her voice echoed in his head, emitting itself as a soft hum. Tsubin nearly had to fight back a grimace as he glanced back at the Lampent, who let out what sounded like a giggle. "Don't sass me about that right now, Hika."

Aelin nodded, she understood plenty. He seemed to be almost as new as she was. Or maybe she was just assuming. The Lampent was a new pokemon to her and maybe that showed how new she was to this whole thing. Brushing her hair behind one ear, Aelin smiled as he mentioned needing to know how the Lampent evolved so early. "That sounds good. I'm just now getting to the point of nicknaming them. So I don't think I know anything of what they can do. I think Torchic can Scratch right now... And Broth... I think he may be able to tackle, but I don't know yet." She said scratching the back of her head kinda sheepishly. When Tsubin took her other hand in the handshake, Aelin's eyes lit up.
"It's a pleasure Tsubin! And it's a pleasure of course to meet... Did I hear you call her Hika?" She asked curiously about the Lampent. She went to point out that her Axew was named Broth... But the dragon was missing from around her feet. As was the Torchic. Where did they go so quickly. Turning to see if she could see her pokemon, she tilted her head to see four pokemon now racing towards them again. A box above Broth's head, and a Voltorb and Trapinch following behind them. Did they get into trouble. "Axew!" The dragon said cheerily as he put the box down next to her ankles. The Voltorb and Trapinch stopped next to her feet and looked towards Torchic and Broth. They nodded and the Trapinch happily sat and the Voltorb just stared at her. "I uh... Okay. I guess. I have two more new teammates to learn.... Okay. So Broth is my Axew here. And I'm gonna call you... Matzo." She said introducing the Axew and then looking at the Voltorb... She may have been a little hungry.

↳Nicknaming, huh? That was always fun to do. There was always such a weird variety to them, and nearly countless possibilities. Tsubin remembered back in Pacifidlog when traveling trainers would stop by their Pokemon center and chat with him and other locals. Sometimes they'd introduce their Pokemon to him if he was stopping by, and be mystified about the fact there was a Lampent living in their tiny little town and nobody was batting an eye. Some of those trainers had naming schemes where their teams had more... human names. Others would be odd and sort of like what he had. "Makes me wonder how long it takes for names to stick for them," he chuckled after releasing her hand from the handshake. "As for moves, I think the Pokedex manual said it displays the moves for the Pokemon you own." His head turned as she named the two she was referring to, catching sight of them wandering the area. The Torchic was obvious, and... Broth? That was the little dragon the Torchic was running around with, right?
"Ah, no, her name's actually Hikari." He raised his hand and gently hooked a finger under her lampshade to gently sway her into view. "She communicates telepathically and I keep talking to her like a person, so nicknames keep getting shorter." Tsubin felt shuffling behind him and turned his head to see what Yuu was doing. The little canine was trying to paw his way up the slippery nylon of his backpack and grab onto the shoulder of his shirt to get to a more steady surface. "And this one is Yuu--" He had to be careful to enunciate the name properly to avoid it sounding like "you." "-- because he decided that was a name he liked. I've also got three others on me, so there's Aoi the Mudkip, Miso the Zigzagoon, and Sage the Natu; but I, uh... don't want to deal with a crowd, so they're staying in their pokeballs. Especially with Aoi being out. She learned Water Gun recently and is a liiiittle trigger-happy."
His gaze found its way back to the little ones making their way back over. Oh... there's more of them. He blinked in confusion. "Erm... They seem to have multiplied, I see." He took notice of Aelin's current naming scheme; it sounded similar to the other girl he met earlier. Food, huh? Was he going to be able to stick to a theme too? He felt he already broke it after naming Miso. Oh well. Speaking of food... "Damn, I should've picked up some snacks at the Pokemon Center," he sighed, letting go of Hikari to nudge Yuu onto a safer spot on his shoulders in order to take his backpack off and set it down. Good thing he had a snack pocket. Squatting down to open the zipper, he pulled out two granola bars and paused when he caught sight of the RageCandyBars he had also stowed away in the same pocket. "Hm... wonder what they taste like," he mused to himself, pulling one out before turning to hold out a granola bar to Aelin. "You want one?"

Aelin smiled brightly as their hands disconnected from the handshake. She was excited at the prospect of having an actual friend. Not one like what her parents had forced her into. "You know, I think nicknaming is based on the person. I'm sure there are some that don't name any at all." She commented touching her chin in a speculative way. "Hm, good question. Maybe after a few days? Or even immediately? They seem incredibly smart. " She said chuckling as the Trapinch nudged her ankle. Wanting a nickname itself... She would have to think about it. And her own scheme? She enjoyed soup. Quite a bit... That was her only idea. So... It made sense to her. At his revelation about the pokedex, her eyes widened. Really? She pulled out her pokedex and looked at Matzo. It Did! "Oh my goodness! Your right! I must look like a serious newbie..."
Placing fingers over her lips, the astonishment that she hadn't known... She was a little embarrassed but that was okay. She was technically still in the starting town right? That would be fine. She looked back over at the Lampent. Hikari, that was really pretty. "Her name is really pretty. Her nickname has a nickname." Aelin said chuckling. As he introduced the Riolu she smiled. "Hello Yuu. Nice to meet you. Unfortunately my parents picked Aelin, so Yuu is lucky to pick his own. " The girl said happily. A Mudkip with a trigger happy water gun. She giggled at the thought. So many personalities. "That's a good point actually. Uh lemme..." She took out Trapinch and Matzo's balls from the box Celery and Broth had brought back and put them away, promising to nickname the Trapinch in a few minutes.
"I do apologize if their names made you hungry... I really like soup..." she said blushing and scratching the back of her head again as he mentioned snacks. Hehe, she would need to get some food supplies at her next town stop. As tsubin took off his bag, Aelin grimaced at her two remaining pokemon. She wasn't prepared. She needed to get her head in the game before she really started. Otherwise, who knew if her parents would send someone to save her from starvation or something instead of to get their... 'Prized' daughter home... As he stood back up and offered a granola bar. "Oh my, thank you. I am not prepared I guess..." She said taking the bar gently. She unwrapped it and took a small bite. "So... What made you come back to Littleroot town after you got Miso?" She asked curiously.

↳"Oh yeah, I forgot about those kind of people," Tsubin mused. He just didn't seem to find those people to be very memorable in the first place. Hearing people's nicknames for their Pokemon was more fun, he thought. Though... he wouldn't doubt he'd eventually run out of ideas and resort to not giving names. Maybe that happened to some of those trainers. "Sounds kinda boring, but I guess coming up with names sometimes does take a bit too much effort. I get that." Ah, if only his imagination would just keep being active. But no, he also fell into creative slumps outside of just naming. As Aelin seemed to be in some thought, he glanced down at the little ant lion at her feet, wondering what it was thinking. Maybe it was paying attention to the conversation the whole time? Or maybe it just wanted attention in general. He wasn't sure, but didn't feel like asking.
Watching the surprised expression appear on her face just before she pulled her pokedex out to check, Tsubin wondered if the information was actually there. He hadn't actually checked it himself, but just remembered something he was told about it. Perhaps it was actually time he looked for himself, he thought, reaching back to pull his own pokedex out of his pocket. Raising it to scan Hikari, he scrolled through the list that appeared under the picture of a Lampent. "Nah, this is actually the first time looking at this myself too," he assured her. "I remembered my cousin showing me this before when he was first starting out. I'm just glad it hasn't changed too much since then." Glancing over the buttons on the surface, he noticed there were more features on it. He wasn't exactly sure what they were just yet, but maybe that was something else to explore later. At least one of the most obvious and necessary features was still visible off of the home-screen. Still early afternoon.
Ah, but he didn't even eat lunch yet. No wonder he needed a snack. Why did it take him so long to realize that?....... Oh wait... It was because he kept getting sidetracked by everything that had happened so far. It was still his first day, anyway, but it still meant he walked back and forth from Littleroot Town. That was a decent walk, at least, but.... he really did need to slow down and eat. The thought alone very briefly distracted him from Aelin greeting Hikari and Yuu, but it didn't take much to realize what was said. Hikari let out what sounded like a happy whistle as she twirled where she floated beside him, and Yuu's tail wagged as he leaned forward on Tsubin's shoulder. The poor boy had to lean his head away as the little tail kept whiffing his ear. "Parents pick names?!" came the energetic young voice in Tsubin's head, though all the little canine vocalized was 'Luu!' With a sharp turn of his head, Yuu looked straight back into his trainer's eyes. "Did yours pick yours too, Tsu?" ( "Rii, rii?" ) "Yeah, little buddy. They did." The little one still had a lot to learn, huh?
Tsubin shook his head as she apologized for the naming scheme she had so far. "Don't feel bad about it. I'm pretty amused," he said with a grin as he stood back up and unwrapped his granola bar, taking a small bite from it. "I met others who also gave their pokemon food-related names. Food names are just about as various as the color names I've been trying to keep up with." Though... he supposed that knowing Hikari, Miso, and Yuu's names were already a clear indication that he was in fact not able to stick to it. Speaking of food, he noticed Yuu sniffing at his snack, so he broke off the piece he bit into with is other hand, still holding the ragecandybar, and passed it into the Riolu's little paws; he could figure out how to use his teeth, right? "No problem. The PokeCenter in Oldale has more of these, and actual food too." He took another bite, munching contentedly as he raised the chocolate bar to his face to give it a quick sniff. It didn't smell any different from any other one he'd had before.
Unbeknownst to him was a lab aide walking a grass type pokemon out of his peripheral vision as he remained focused on Aelin when she asked another question. "Hm? Oh, mostly curiosity. My cousin airdropped me a box earlier and it had a few of these in there." He wiggled the ragecandybar between his fingers so she could see it. "Not sure what's special about them, but he left a no---"
"IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS?" a voice boomed from behind him, making Tsubin and Yuu both flinch as he turned around to see the man in the lab coat rushing over to them. The assistant made a sudden lunge, only snatching the chocolate out of his hand. "I'll be taking this," he huffed as he turned to quickly saunter back to the lab. "H-hey, what the--" Tsubin sputtered out, alarmed at what just happened. The man stopped in his tracks, his gaze unseen behind the lenses of his glasses as he slowly turned back around to face the teens. Was he lost in thought? Several moments passed in silence before he reached into the pocket of his lab coat, pulling out a pokeball.
'Uh oh,' Tsubin thought, his body tensing anxiously. Did this man want to fight? Over just a bar of candy? Really, what exactly was so special about them? The fur on Yuu's body bristled as he glared at the man, but Hikari only watched on as she drifted back a few feet to hover by Aelin, seemingly unfazed. In fact, she seemed more amused about the whole situation. With a sudden movement, Tsubin instinctively took a step back as the man quickly raised his arm, holding the pokeball out. Clearing his throat, the man spoke, "Ahem.... please... take this in exchange.""... Eh?""I apologize for startling you, but I er... need this candy. Here's the ball for this Treeko with me. I was merely taking it for a short walk since it seemed restless, but now it can be yours." Stepping forward, he pushed the apparently empty pokeball into the hand he snatched the candy from before turning away again. "Ta-ta for now, and good luck on your adventures!" he chuckled gleefully as he jogged away, leaving a gawking Tsubin behind.

Aelin smiled and nodded. Nicknames had always been something of a personal thing right? So the fact that she wasn't the only one to use food made sense, but also that she was sure there was also different options and names and... She would definitely get confused the moment she tried to change up her name game. Or to think about anything in regards to the other naming schemes that anyone ever had come up with. Shaking her head a little to clear the fog that was starting to creep in as she thought about all the differences in this world they lived on. "Oh you can talk to Yuu? That's amazing!" Lin exclaimed. That he could understand his pokemon was amazing! She of course hadn't learned to notice the body language just yet to even notice what they may be thinking. She continued to smile as she munched on the granola bar he had given to her. She was very grateful for the snack.
So she would need to stock up then at the pokecenter. Hmmm... As he mentioned that he had received a box of the bars, a loud booming voice made her jump. A man from the lab walked over with purpose and took the bar. "Whoah there sir..." She started but the man turned, handing Tsubin a pokeball and explaining that the Treecko there was now his... Then ran away. "That... Was interesting... So is that what the bars are supposed to do? I hope not, I hate to be yelled at." She said raising an eye brow. That wasn't very polite and she had a bit of a problem with rude people. One of her pet peeves... Rolling her eyes at the rudeness, she turned her gaze back to her new friend. "Well then. Looks like your business here is done... Would you like to go as a team to the next couple gyms and things? Or have you already done the first gym?" She asked curiously, Celery and Broth both settling near their trainers feet for now. Ready to get a move on.

Whilst her trainer talked with Tsu, Celery was starting to get bored again. Her attention span wasn't very long and she now needed something to do. Jumping up and down, Celery flapped her tiny wings and then happily continued to hop around the new trainer. Using up the energy that just kept pooling around in her... Somewhere? The Torchic tweeted while she jumped.

Whilst Celery jumped around and tweeted, Broth started fiddling with his claws. But only the feet. He couldn't really reach his two paws. He started bobbing his head to either side since the trainers were talking and he could imagine some kind of lullaby... Probably because of the tweeting.

↳Yuu continued nibbling on the piece of granola bar he was given, watching his trainer curiously. Occasionally his little tongue would flicker out to lick at the sweetened treat. Instinct or observation had already told him he needed to bite and chew food, which Tsubin was grateful for. That meant there was slightly less to have to teach the hatchling pokemon about. "This is a human food, isn't it?" the Riolu asked, taking a pause from licking the piece of granola to look at Tsubin again. "What's it called?" The boy had to finish chewing the piece he had already bitten off before responding. "Granola. It's a bunch of toasted oats, rice, and...." Wait a second... Yuu's still a baby. The tilt of the little head was a good indicator that it was hard for him to follow what he said already. "Uh... that's gonna be a lot to explain, isn't it?" Dammit. His lips pursed into a bit of a frown as he gazed back at the young Riolu. Did that mean he shouldn't curse around him either? Would it even matter? It shouldn't if he was the only human the little canine could talk to, but.... what about other Pokemon or maybe.... telepaths?
The thought was temporarily dissipated when Aelin spoke, amazed by his ability to understand Yuu despite the discernible yips and squeaks he knew she heard instead. He blinked as he stared at her in a bit of confusion, before his eyes suddenly widened in realization. "Ah crap. I got so used to talking with Hikari that I didn't realize how all this sounds to others until now..." How embarrassing. "W-well... I read online that ghost-types can communicate with people. And psychic-types too." He felt that there was something missing from what information he just spewed out. There wasn't any indication what he was forgetting, but that was another thought that suddenly vanished after the whole fiasco with the lab aide.
It took a few moments for the initial shock to fade. Hikari took advantage of the moment of stunned silence to float away from Aelin and behind her trainer, unzipping the pocket on his backpack that she saw him fill with empty pokeballs earlier. With one in her grasp, she closed the pocket and drifted over to one of the grassy patches. Whatever she was doing went unnoticed by him. The Treecko the man left behind was still staring at the man's back as he receded into the distance, then turning around to inquisitively look up across the few feet separating him from his apparent new trainer. "... Y-yeah, gimme a sec," Tsubin murmured after making eye contact with the small green lizard. At least all of that left him with an answer as to what the RageCandyBars were for, but the scientist's reaction to just one was... suspicious. Pressing the button on the empty pokeball to collapse it for a minute, he clipped it to his belt before reaching into his pocket to pull out the note from earlier, holding it out to Aelin as he turned to her. "They came from my cousin earlier today with a buncha other stuff. I don't wanna assume, but I think 'like' is a complete understatement."
Well, at least that saved him time from having to go all the way back to Littleroot, having met the man at least halfway back. And Aelin asked about plans. Not surprisingly, they were plans that were more solid than his own. "I haven't been past Oldale yet, so.... teaming up sounds like a great idea, actually," he agreed, beaming as he nodded. He turned back to the Treecko, who had walked closer to them. "And you should be S--""Ah-ah," came a male voice from one of the pokeballs on his belt, . "I know what you're thinking, and that's already my name.""s**t, sorry Sage. Uh... What about Lime?"
"Treeck!" the newly named lizard shouted in agreement, nodding before hopping onto his new trainer and climbing up to his unoccupied shoulder.

Aelin happily munched on the rest of her granola bar. Ready to get some actual food now. Not meaning that the granola wasn't food, but she wanted some soup, and a drink of something sweeter than water. She happily watched the interaction between the Riolu and her new friend. Tsubin was explaining the granola bar to the baby pokemon and had realized he may not understand some of what he was explaining. She chuckled as he apologized and continued eating his own granola. When he started explaining what she didn't understand, her eyebrows lowered. Wait a second... Wasn't Riolu? Pulling out her pokedex again, she quickly scanned the Riolu, hoping Yuu didn't mind. He wasn't a psychic or ghost type... "Oh, it says that Riolu can communicate with others using it's emotions through auras. That makes sense. Neat!" She said excitedly. So some pokemon can talk to people! That's amazing! She looked down at the hoping Torchic and chuckled, and then to the Axew playing with his feet. She continued chuckling as her attention was grabbed by a floating flame move towards the grasses behind Tsu. Looking slightly over his shoulder, Aelin noticed the ghost Hikari playing in the grass.
