He frowned a little, his fingers slowly coming to a stop in his hair as he thought this through. It was a very unpleasant thing, to kill someone, and very, very sad. He wasn't quite sure that he could do it, or if he could figure out who he would kill anyway.

His eyes drifted towards Amphi's body, broken and bloody on the floor.

"How..." A pause. Llyr struggled for a moment, and then said, "How would I...kill them? What would I use? I am not that strong," he added, almost like an afterthought."

He walked towards the fog

The fog envelopes you. It cuts you off from your partner. It whispers things to you, and while you can't hear what it being said, you know it's talking about you. The darkness is whispering your every secret, and murmuring your deepest fears right into your ear.

Suddenly, the fog parts, and you are inches from the wall. You catch the faint scent of copper, and then you notice the words just above your line of vision, in dark, dripping red:

FREEDOM

There is an arrow, and you follow it until you're on your knees in front of the wall, looking at a space on the wall that is darker than the rest. You realize, perhaps a little belatedly, that it's a missing brick.

[ ROOM B5 ]

Bren followed behind, his flashlight illuminating the bubbling fog for the other boil. He, however, remained several steps behind, peering around the space anxiously. This was not one of the rooms the Fracs had recommended, but it seemed isolated enough. He waited.

When his partner disappeared, he called out. "P... Pachua?"

[ ROOM B6 ]

The room lit up again, blindingly so. He squinted his red eyes, lifted a clawed hand to shield his face and then....

-----------------------

He stood at the side of the bed with a clipboard, eyes skimming over the words, when suddenly the door slammed open. He turned, a smile already on his lips, though it was one that did not reach his eyes in the slightest.

"Ah, Gregory! So glad you are joining me." He moved to the side, allowing room for the two figures to move Mathias's brother to the bed, strapping him down tight as the other wolpertinger struggled against his restraints and screamed at them to stop.

The door closed as the two who had brought Mathias's brother vacated, the latch making a satisfying click that meant that he was now all alone in the room.

With Gregory.

Mathias moved up to the side of the bed and continued to smile as he looked down at his brother, who had stopped his struggles, who was now trembling just slightly, though was also leveling Mathias with a cold glare.

"Am so happy to be seeing you again, Gregory. Are happy to see me?" He reached down, his thumb brushing against one of those balefully glaring eyes, forcing it closed, pushing down on it, adding pressure slowly as though he never meant to stop.

"Ffft, am guessing not!" He suddenly released him, taking a step back as his smile slipped away, and he watched the other wolpertinger with a steady gaze.

"Hope not minding that I lied to be getting you here. Is not like you have not lied to me. But you are remembering that, are you not, Gregory? How you told me all vould be okay. You had overheard that I father vould be removing me from pack soon, and you told me. You told me you had plan. You told me you did not vant me to go." He let his hand slide down until it settled around his brothers neck, squeezing, his claws digging into the side of his brother's throat.

"Plan vas for us to fight, for me to be vinning, and for parents to see that I vas strong enough. Could stay, could grow, could become stronger given time. Vas all I needed, just time." He was squeezing harder now, and he realized that his brother was turning a little bit blue in the face, his eyes bulging just slightly, and so he released him again.

And that was when the protests began. The apologies, and the excuses for why. Why he had done it. He'd had no choice.

"No choice. Nah. Of course that is case. Instead of plan, vhen it vas time for me to land final blow, you attacked me, and vhen I vas down, vith your teeth at mein neck, then the rest vere allowed to join in. Brothers and sisters all attacking, but it vas you who made it so. You who's laughter I could be hearing vhen all over, and a vas left on ground, unconscious, bleeding, near dissipation but not quite. Vas left, and vhen awakening, pack vas gone."

He let out a sigh then, a claw trailing down along his brothers bare chest, digging in harder, digging deep, drawing blood.

He smiled again, and smiled more when he did it again, and again, leaving bloody patterns across his brothers skin, marring that perfection, that body that was so much bigger then Mathais's, so much stronger, so much more.

And the more his brother pleaded for him to stop, the more he enjoyed every moment of it.

All too soon, however, the time was up. Turning his back on his brother, he hung the clipboard back on the wall.

"Be seeing you soon, Gregory. Hope are enjoying stay." He said, one last cold smile directed behind him towards the bed before he headed towards the door, opened it, and headed back out into the hallway.

He wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, he was filled with shame and fear and the voices seemed somehow to be his father, his grandfather, even his mother before he had left again. There was a word, the copper sent that made him think of … blood. Blood and death and the ultimate inevitable fate.

He felt…sick and fearful but he reached a cautious hand towards that one… missing brick, maybe. Maybe there was something inside. Maybe another key… maybe he could … maybe he could make sure that Remi could be free, could find them help.

He inspected the missing brick

"There are a lot of options here, it's up to what you like best." The Fracs said after a moment of consideration. "There's an equipment room upstairs with all sort of weapons, if you don't want to use your bare hands." It mused, then, after tilting its head, continued: "There's also something that might help you in room one-oh-one, inside a ripped chair ~ You don't have to be strong, you just have to be smart, and I know you can be, when you try." It turned and crawled carefully on top of Amphi's prone body, laying down on top of her stomach wound, legs curled underneath it.

"I'll watch over her while you're gone."

He inspected the missing brick

The space is just big enough for an arm to fit through. It doesn't feel any different than any other cold brick walls, and curiousity compels you to reach in, to see if you can feel what was on the other side.

At first, it's only cold. A bone chilling, terrible cold. You begin to feel around, patting blindly for the promised freedom. Then you feel it: a small wisp of air, no stronger than a breath. You pause, fingers frozen in place as if afraid to move. Seconds tick by, and when it doesn't happen again, you resume your search.

Quote:

The wall has promised you freedom, but can you find it?

  • Roll a 1d100, and match your results to the prompts below:
  • 1-40: You continue to feel around blindly, moving as close to the wall as you can in order to cover as much ground. You feel the breath again, this time heavier, and certainly closer. You continue to search. You find nothing, and, eventually, give up.
41-80: Something snorts against your palm, spraying your fingers. You hear a low growl, a sudden shriek, and before you can pull your hand away, you feel a set of teeth sink into your arm. It's just one bite, and a warning shot at best. -10HP. You can hear the creature sniffing, and you decide it best to leave.
81-100: Your fingers touch something furry, and yet terribly slimy. Something on the other side of the wall emits a horrific howl and attacks, tearing into the flesh of your arm. The vicious thing with sharp teeth refuses to let go, and in the struggle you feel something cold and metallic hit the palm of your hand. You grasp it and pull, and the moment you do is the moment the creature lets you go. You fall back into the confinement room, your arm ripped and torn, and in your palm is a key labelled 'E'. You have found your freedom, but at what cost? -20HP.
  • If you find the key, please quote The Escaped.
  • If they key has already been found, please react to the prompt above it (as if you rolled a 41-80).
  • You may only roll once.

There was something there at his fingertips, the trembling reach brushing against something, a snort, and he could feel wet against his finger tips.

A low growl was the only warning before the penetrating SHRIEK and the terrible bite, just a warning, he knew that somehow but it did damage a plenty.

He felt dizzy and sick from the pain. He pulled his hand back, clutching the bloodied mess to his chest and feeling the tears falling from his eyes. He was a coward, he crumbled at the pain and he lost what dignity he had to that pain…
Shaking he turned back, retreating from the sound of snuffling for fear, fear that it had only been a trap and that he had accomplished nothing for his troubles.

I…I'm here… I'm here… there was a… there was a loose brick, i…it said freedom but." He swayed on his feet, glancing at you and holding out the mauled hand.

"But there was something there too… I… It bit me, I…. I have to get out of this room I'm sorry."

Llyr was torn between wanting to stay with Amphi and wanting to help her, because to help her he would have to leave her alone. He was still frowning a little, but the more the creature said, the more it seemed to make sense somehow.

He had to try, at the very least.

"Okay," he said decisively, and stood, his long hair falling over his shoulders. "I will go and find something to save her with."

[ ROOM B5 ]

He had no idea what had just happened, only that Pachua was back and bloody and insisting they leave. Frankly, he was fine with that.

"Yes, let's go. I have some bandaids... somewhere." He started back toward the door. "We can see how bad your injuries are more easily in the hall."

He nodded mutely, biting back sounds of pain and alternating between spreading his wings to an…rather inconvenient width, and drawing them tight against him, half shielding his body.

"I.. I had to reach in, I had to…" He tried to explain, somehow he just knew they needed something he was leaving behind, but he couldn't bring himself to even think of trying again.

[ HALLWAY ]

Momentarily forgetting that he was fairly well on his way to murdering this boil, Bren dug in his waist pouch for the bandaids he had taken from the supply room.

"Here," he said, looking at Pachua's hand. "I don't know if they can help, but it's worth a try."

He took the bandaids gratefully, applying them with shaky hands to the injuries where he could, it was hard to make them stick so he only managed to stick one or two of them to the injuries.

"i'm sorry…I'm sorry, I hoped to find something useful… now I'll just…. I'd just…" he shook his head. "I can't let teddy see me like this." He said desperately. "Or Llyr… their already, they aren't taking this well, I can't."

"Well, we don't have to find them yet," Brenley replied, his voice catching in his throat. "We can just sit in here until you're feeling better." He gestured vaguely toward the room he knew was B6, the horrible weight in his chest returning. Teddy. He was going to kill a friend of Teddy's.

But...

Everyone would be fine. Bren's mantra returned as he smiled shakily and waited for the other boil to enter first.
