Title Event

The zombies around the Mall had already begun to disperse, but now it had increased at an alarming rate. It seemed as though they moved with a mission. Waves of infected poured into the streets and through the alleyways as they headed for the center of town. As if that weren’t bad enough, they were branching off into groups and heading out to specific areas. Then the mutated zombies began to mix themselves into the undead folds. Brawlers, Howlers, Zombie Hoarders, Zombie Cannibals, Gorgers, and even Stalkers could be spotted among the countless reanimated bodies that crowded the streets. As they pushed their way towards The City Complex, some left towards the Amusement Park, others left towards the Park and Movie Theater. Those that had been leaving the Movie Theater at the end of the distraction film had begun to head out towards the Library and School. As their numbers grew in size, the streets seemed to be swallowed whole by the masses of living corpses.

The dust clouds had begun to settle on the Outskirts of town, but a new ruckus had formed on the precipice of the Mall and the suburban area. There was an entire army of Gorgers and common infected moving into the City with an eerie amount of direction and cohesion. Atop the masses in the center was a large rolling cart pulled by Brawlers. It held countless Zombies Hoarders and humans atop it and was armed to the teeth. Each survivor had their own stockpile of weapons and was conversing with the Zombie Hoarders casually. Occasionally the Zombie Hoarders would look forward and the group would fall back into tight ranks. The humans that sat atop the large structure were some of the worst humans in existence: cold-blooded mercenaries. They wanted nothing more than to see the world burn and take their part in helping it along its way.

”Oi, did you see those two girls get devoured?” A thick-accented voice spoke up from the group. It belonged to a tall burly man with short-cropped brown hair and looks that belonged in a magazine rather than an apocalypse. The girl next to him scoffed and rolled her eyes as she shifted on her feet. She was itching to pull the trigger on someone or something that would get in their way. When she opened her mouth to speak, she was cut off by the gruff voice of their leader. They all turned to face him as he spoke.
“Yeah, we saw the girl get eaten. Calm down and focus. Has anyone seen any other survivors yet?”
”No sir.” The woman piped up quickly, ”I’ve kept a sharp lookout.”
”Doesn’t make sense to have no survivors in a City as big as this’n, right?”
”No, it doesn’t. You think he’s in this town?”
The group fell silent for a moment. “Well… we killed him...”
”He’s here.” A dark-skinned man walked forward and looked around at the group. ”If we find no one before we pass the Mall, it has to be him.”
A grunt of agreement came from the man known as their leader. He removed his shades and wiped some of the gore off of them before rubbing his bearded chin. If his enforcer was right, things were going to get interesting. He was sure that they had killed that nuisance in the last town. A small smirk played on his face as he thought about strangling the man who had almost single-handedly demolished their base of operations. Their caravan began to cross the Mall’s parking lot.

Jacqueline had been cautiously moving through the apartment buildings of the city, scavenging for any valuable items when she first heard the sound of flesh hitting the ground at an unnerving pace. She looked up from the place she was standing, holding the intricately decorated vase she had recently found in her hands. She knew there were survivors in the vicinity as she had helped a man and a girl he had found a few days ago, heaven's knows if they were still in the city, let alone alive, but even so there were definitely not that many survivors moving through the city at any one time. 'Threat,' thought Jacqueline as she crouched down quickly onto her haunches, before moving towards a nearby window, placing the vase onto the ground as quietly as she could as she moved. She peeked though the shattered window, being careful not to draw any unwanted attention towards her location. She noticed the living corpses were making their way towards the center of the city, and tended to pay little attention to the row of apartment blocks that Jacqueline was residing in.

Contempt with finding what the noise was, Jacqueline made her way to the door, still crouched down. She had dealt with all of the zombies in this particular apartment complex, and the ones next door yesterday. Her hand went to her katana as she moved out of the apartment she was in. She looked down the hallway three times, before wondering if she should go out and scavenge for more supplies in the direction the zombies had left, moved to the roof of this building, or left to see what was happening at the city complex. She decided on the first option, seeing as it would be the safer option out of all of them, the roof was too exposed and easy to get trapped on for her to wait the horde out from, and going to the middle of the city would be a suicide mission.

Instead, she moved slowly and silently to the top of the apartment, hand still on her katana as she got onto the roof. She looked around the rooftop, her equipment was still here, and she gathered it up as quickly as possible as she listened out for noises of danger. Once her backpack was once again assembled, she looked to the apartment's roof next door to this one.

Multi-NPC Event

Dylan was practically speechless. The man spoke so fluidly and quickly that he felt compelled to believe what the moss-covered man had just said. It didn’t make sense to him, but the way he had said it so matter-of-factly and did not pause or stutter once really threw him off. Either this guy was scary on so many levels and just as capable, or he was one of the best liars Dylan had ever met in his life. Now he had to think of how to respond. He kept his face angry and on guard, not wanting to show how accurately this stranger had portrayed their scenario verbally. Had he really been watching them the whole time? No, that couldn’t be… he had been alert the entire time and hadn’t spotted anything besides those three zombies. Then again, he also hadn’t been looking for a bush. His frown deepened for a moment as he thought about their next move. Ema wanted nothing to do with more people, and he did not want to have to deal with people who were possibly hostile. What should they do? It was almost like a standoff except that no one was pointing any weapons… yet.

Dylan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He may not be the brains of the group, but he was still the leader, damn it. He knew exactly what they had to do. He quickly took a few steps forward to meet the survivor, standing only two feet away from the potentially dangerous man. ”I don’t believe you.” he said bluntly, holding the bat up in between them. The man-bush did not move or flinch when confronted with the weapon. ”There’s no way you knew where we were without following us, and I was keeping a close eye around us. None of what you said makes sense anyway. There’s nothing weird in this city besides the fact that the DEAD are ALIVE. That’s obvious enough, thank you. The only other thing I’m not too fond of is some random guy showing up and ordering us around. No one needs a bossy or nosey person. Besides… this is our group. You don’t get to call the shots.” He let the words sink in (hopefully) to the stranger’s brain. Dylan could play the alpha male. It’s what he did in sports, and it’s what he would do to ensure his group’s safety. He lowered the bat to the ground, tapping the floor twice as he sized up the man before him. He was wondering if the girl was a hostage of some kind. When the guy had slammed his machete into the floor boards, she had jumped and been looking nervous. ”Who is she anyway? You two don’t seem to make a good pair of partners.” He nodded over to Esmai, trying to get anything out of these two that he could. There was a long pause, and silence filed the air with tension. Whether or not Esmai answered, Dylan would eventually continue to prod at another mystery. ”Mind telling us your name, mysterious intruder who wants us to go running off into hell on earth?” He wasn’t being nice or fair, but he wasn’t about to let this creep come anywhere near Emma. He knew that the big guy could care for himself, so he focused on making sure he was in the way of anything the walking pile of moss could try to pull.

Varyn mentally shrugged, figuring that he had gone about this the wrong way from the start. Diplomacy was always more of Al’s thing anyway. He glanced at Esmai for a moment, hoping that she wouldn’t go ahead and speak his name. He wasn’t sure if giving her name was a good idea either. He decided to be more blunt and harsh. Not so good for diplomacy. ”Look kid. My name isn’t important, and I don’t give a damn if you don’t trust me.” Dylan half glanced at the kid in the room when the guy blurted out a swear. ”Hey!” he yelled quickly, grabbing the teen’s attention once again. ”If we don’t get out of this City soon, you will all die. That’s the only thing you should be caring about right now: surviving.” Varyn looked back at Esmai and said quickly, ”Close the doors so that they won’t get in.” It may have been a bit confusing at first, but if she turned around, she would be able to see a few zombies that were small specs in the distance. They were moving with a purpose, called to the Library by some unseen force.

Varyn did not waste any more time. ”If you would like to be the leader and call the shots, I will only speak up if your plans or orders will get us killed. Other than that, you all need to listen and you need to listen good.” He began to speak quicker. There was a mounting sense of urgency, and he kept glancing over at Zach. ”There is an entire caravan of infected coming. If you don’t believe me, then you can go walk down to the Theater or Mall yourselves. I spotted them coming in with my binoculars and I’ve seen them in other towns… right before the towns were destroyed.” Zach had been crying again throughout this entire new confrontation between Dylan and Varyn, and now Varyn looked over at Liam and Zach. ”Please comfort the child. He is not your blood, but you can at least try to console him.” Zach was hugging Liam’s head with a tight grip and sniveling. He didn’t want to be a burden to them or anyone. ”If you do not want to end up like Alex, then you need to get your things together and move with me. I have a safehouse on the edge of the City that we can use for a short nap before we set off. We’re running out of daylight and time.”

Dylan froze at the mention of Alex’s name. ”How do you know Alex?”
”I had a cup of tea with him once while he was just getting situated in the Library. It was the least I could do to part with a rare scavenge after having met an intellectual that I could somewhat relate to. Not important.”
”Did you stay in the Library too?”
”No. Now is not the time for twenty questions, kid. Make up your mind as a group: follow me and get out of here before everything goes to a nightmare beyond hell, or stay and find out exactly what I’m talking about.”

Dylan turned around and looked over the three other members of his group. ”I want to hear what each of you think. We’ll hold a vote to stay or go, and if you guys have seen anything like this guy has been talking about, speak up now.”
Zach piped up quietly, ”I’m going w-wherever Liam g-goes.”

Horde Alert

As the zombies milled through the streets toward the Office and Apartment Complex, they clambered of the various broken signs and deceased bodies of survivors and infected alike. They seemed to hold no group cohesion, but were walking without a doubt back towards the Apartments. It could be speculated that they were simply returning to what they were doing previously, or it could be that they may have been following a command. A small group had entered the back alleys by the Apartments and were getting closer to their goal when they heard what sounded like a loud thump coupled with scraping. This gathered their attention, and they proceeded to follow the sound towards the lone survivor that was nearby. The rest of the zombies were moving at a leisurely pace, spreading out and stopping at all corners and avenues. There were loud moans and groans coming from the group, which soon covered up the heavy breathing and footsteps of the woman above the small group that had run so eagerly ahead. With no more purpose or leads on the living, the small group disbanded and began to wander about the complex.

Unfortunately for Jacqueline, It seemed like she had caught the attention of a zombie hidden in the shadows of an alleyway. It would stalk her as she moved, staying out of sight, but barely keeping up with her. It wanted a taste so desperately... the flesh... the walking food... the pain. It would be very hard to spot this skinless monstrosity since it was following from the shadows below her and the noises of the other undead were growing louder.

Cain sat silently and listened to everyone's input and what they had to say, gathering all the information up. It was good to know that the virus that had caused this whole mess was no longer a factor anymore, the dead could no longer rise unless they had already been affected from before. Although he had originally been talking about the fact that when this whole thing started people would raid the malls and then get turned into those monsters. He just figured they usually stayed in the same general areas after reanimating so that's why there would still be hundreds of walking dead around areas like the mall. It didn't matter though, they all new that the mall was dangerous and now they all knew that the virus couldn't affect any of them if they happened to die now.

Finally, after everyone had taken a turn to speak, there was a long pause of silence that lasted a while as everyone thought about what their answers would be on the decision to go to the Mall. The silence was broken first by Xenia, who jabbed Loretta in the side and hissed something at her, then stated that she was willing to go on the suicide mission to the mall. Cain nodded his head in agreement and then spoke.
"I'm willing to go as well. But I don't think it's safe for any of us, especially her, to bring Nitori along. She is too young to enter a hell like that, it would be like offering herself on a silver platter to those monsters. I think we should split up, have one or two of us stay behind with Nitori and then the rest of us can go to the Mall and scavenge for supplies." The little girl's safety came first in Cain's mind so he wasn't about to lead her like a calf to the slaughter. Meanwhile, at the mention of her name, Nitori jerked her head up and looked around confused. The whole time everyone was talking, Nitori had been fast asleep on Loretta's shoulder and hadn't caught a word of the conversation going on around her. "What? I wanna go where you guys go." She said, not really knowing what was going on but wanting to stick with her friends no matter what.

Cain gave a slight smile at the girl and then turned back to the others.
"I think Loretta should stay behind with Nitori. No offense, but at the moment you look to physically exhausted to help out at the Mall and you would probably just slow us down. You need some rest. I'm still trusting you to stay alert enough to look after Nitori though." He said, with a very serious expression on his face. Cain then looked around the room at the other three.I also think it would be a good idea to have one other person stay behind. Then each team will have equal people and, quite frankly, if one of the adults watching Nitori gets.... compromised... the other will still have a chance to keep her safe. With this statement he looked around the room expectantly, waiting to see if there were any volunteers or at least suggestions as to who else might be willing to stay behind.

Esmai had to wonder if the group they faced off was actually going to follow with just the explanation previously given. The way Varyn told his story, stern and the the point, gave little to no room to wiggle. She hoped they would follow the knee-jerk response to take his instruction. He had that effect, honestly. It wasn't the time to really reflect on how many times she listened to him with minimum question. It was the time, however, for Dylan to balk and cause a small commotion. Varyn didn't seem to bat an eye at the potentially dangerous advance. He was standing still as statue and wasn't even moved by a bat pointed at him. Esmai wasn't so sturdy. The focus wasn't on her, rather the two men. She didn't much care for being in the sphere of tension and standing near the guy brandishing a weapon. She was getting the feeling that they really weren't very wanted here. Her feet shuffled quietly back to make just a little more space.

Time to assess the situation just a little better. Esmai knew the general underlying mentality behind people in disastrous situations. By nature, people would want to form groups rather than be entirely alone. It was a survival method mainly. People in dire situations or disasters desperately formed groups. Or at least tried. It would make a beneficial relationship for both solo units to have the other and provide mutual safety. While groups would likely be open to stragglers, they were distrustful and even hostile to other groups. It was a long-time ingrained survival tactic. Esmai didn't specialize in survival mentalities but her knowledge brought her this far. It wasn't very useful information. Even less useful when she kept her lips sealed and pressed into a thin line. It would be better to listen to the man with a strong grip on a metal bat at the moment, anyways. He was trying very hard to exert his dominance in the room. That much was obvious. As much as she should have paid attention to what he was saying, she found herself watching the kid in the room. As soon as words turned volatile, the poor thing started crying and shaking. He clung to whom she still assumed was his brother. Esmai felt only sympathy and a need to say something to him. She knew very well it wasn't the time for that. Besides, Liam's current expression didn't look very approachable. He kept a stern hand on his weapon and looked initially very tense. He was aware of Zach's crying but didn't want to move. His resolve to stay focused on the two men talking was lessening.

Her eyes flickered back to Dylan when he mentioned her indirectly. That almost offensive. If the kid wanted to know who she was anyways, he was going to have to personally ask her. She made a small gruff huff at him but didn’t answer. Rude! They made a…. team. They worked. That wasn’t much of his business. His group didn’t look too perfect, either. If they were, they wouldn’t need to be so hostile. Esmai didn’t stay upset long and the glare she pointed at the redhead melted. They were in a difficult situation. She was sure he was a much more agreeable person when he didn’t feel he and his friends were in danger. She could always introduce herself some other time. And if Varyn wanted to introduce himself, too, he could. She didn’t say anything about either of their names. When everyone was calm and in a safe place would be the time to talk. That was a good plan, right? First, they just needed to get out and moving. Esmai turned her gaze to the next speaker as Varyn gave his, far more curt, argument. This one was without sugar. It gave them no other choice. They came with him or they died. Awfully familiar. But the choice had served her well enough. She was alive and wanted them to live as well.

She turned to the door when asked, not sure how much or how close of a ‘they’ she should be expecting. She had enough common sense to know whatever she was closing them off from was going to be undead. They were distant, hardly visible shapes, but zombies. She didn’t like the beeline they were making to their location. They shouldn’t even be able to tell there were people in the Library, shouldn’t they? She was by no means a zombie expert, but that didn’t seem right. She felt uneasy suddenly and grit her teeth, recalling what it was like with a Hoarder. Zombies were mindless and stumbled thoughtlessly. Those seemed to give zombies a purpose. She swung the door closed as quietly as she could before returning to a spot beside Varyn. He had already continued on convincing the group to follow him. Rather than confront Dylan’s hostility with more of the same, he accepted it. It was a good move, but… Letting him take the lead? Esmai didn’t think it was fair to judge his ability to lead without personally seeing him in action, but held an inkling of doubt. He seemed a bit young. But she wanted to give him a chance. If Varyn was alright with him taking the leader position, she could take it, too. Varyn was still there to help them if situations got messy, anyways. All good!

“All good” was subjective. It was not yet “all good”. There was a certain kind of feeling entering the air. The kind that made your chest twist with dread yet was unseen. Esmai shifted on her feet often when she caught on to the air of the room. Liam was becoming increasingly more uncomfortable. He wasn’t sure what to even make of the confrontation in the room in the first place. He wanted to believe the stranger bush man, a sentence nobody should ever have to say, but he wanted to stay loyal to Dylan. They made a group not long before arriving at the library, but that wasn’t important to him. He kept his hand tight around the hatchet during the entire tense situation and did what he could to keep a stern face, despite hearing Zach squirm behind him. It wasn’t easy to keep up with the conversation but he wasn't sure if he should quietly hush and soothe Zach while the other men were talking. It was relieving when the bush man eventually asked him to do something about the kid. He mentioned a few things about a caravan and the mall, but as soon as he said the comfort Zach, Liam was done listening.

Liam nodded to his instruction and finally broke stance. It didn't feel right to let Zach, his littlest friend, cry and snivel and quiver. He tucked his ax away and reached behind him to pick Zack off of him. While Dylan and bush man made exchanges back and forth, he hugged Zach and quietly told him that it was going to be alright and they would make it out. He chose to ignore the ‘not of your blood’ comment and act like a big brother anyways.

He glanced up and met Dylan’s eyes a moment before looking at Zach again. He raised the kid up and onto his shoulders again. He patted Zach’s head then grabbed and drew his hatchet. “We have to. It’s not safe here.” He replied softly before he let anyone else get an answer in. If leaving was safe for Zach, for all of them, they had to get moving. Esmai glanced between the other two. She didn’t feel very welcomed by either of them. She imagined the girl would deny the vote. Then that would leave it up to the redhead. She wasn’t sure how that would end up for them becoming one group.

                                                      Location: library
                                                      Condition: fine

Satisfied?! Satisfied?! Ema fumed inside as she glared at the stupid-looking man with foliage all over him. She didn't like the way he talked so self-righteously, telling them everything they wanted to know just to gain their trust. Ema wanted to tell him off, but Dylan was already on it. Do you think we're going to give up so easily, huh?! There's no way these strangers could win them over. Might as well pack up and leave right now while they have the chance.

But then the man said something odd. Not just odd, but unreal. He's willing to follow beneath them. Now Ema knew that was a lie because no one would say that. And even if he did, it's not like it drowned out any authority the man had. Even if Ema or Dylan was calling the shots, she knew the man would still have power over them. It'll take only a second for him to make a fatal move on anyone.

And then he said something else that nearly made her heart stop a beat. A caravan of zombies? Fighting off one of them was easy. A few zombies here and there was alright. But a whole horde? No--she couldn't. She'd die. In the midst of her anxiety, Dylan was asking for group votes. Liam and Zach wanted to go with the man, so all that was left was Ema and Dylan. She hesitated a moment. Paused. Then looked sternly at the man. "You leave us with no other options." That was her indirect way of reluctantly agreeing to join them. She crossed her arms, refusing to open up or let down her guard around them. "So what happens now, huh? We start walking to who-knows-where?"

☠OOC:☠ ((Cheers mate! Thanks for posting, it wasn't crappy. =p Also: I wished you luck (although in my head) when I saw you had a job interview! I hope it went well buddy! ^^))

He couldn't say he hadn't seen that one coming. Loretta was injured and Nitori was young. He knew they were both very capable and that Loretta would probably deny the extent of her injuries. Even he wasn't so sure how hurt she was. His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought through multiple scenarios. He was paying attention to what Cain was saying, and moved to pat Nitori on the head as the man spoke. It seemed like everyone was good to go, but now the issue was seeing who would stay behind. Wilhelm was sure that his hideout was structurally sound enough and hidden enough to protect the two from attacks, but still- he couldn't just leave them on their own. Not again. His face hardened a bit as he recalled their separation. He hadn't known if he had inadvertently gotten them killed until he met up with them again. He let out a slightly agitated exhale. It was certainly something he did not want to worry about, and having them safe in the hideout would probably help out the two of them and help him focus. Loretta definitely was in need of rest, and Nitori was capable to an extent. If all hell broke loose, he didn't want her to be there.

"Well. It seems like we are all ready and willing to go, but Cain has raised an excellent point. Perhaps it is best if the two of you take the time to have a little rest here. After all, this room is extremely secure and relatively hidden, so you should have no problems being out of harm's way." He smiled warmly as he looked over to Loretta and addressed her. "Would you mind taking a, ehm, breather while we go look for supplies? It would be good for you to rest and watch over Nitori." His gaze soon shifted down to the small child whose head was under his hand. The next statement he spoke was for her. "I have an important job for you too, mein Lieblingskind." He crouched down on one knee momentarily to get down near her level. "I need you to stay here with Loretta and make sure she gets some rest, okay?" He brushed his fingers gently through the little girl's hair to get some of it out of her face and grinned a bit. "It's a more important job than mine, in fact." He leaned a little closer and coyly whispered, "You know how she will always say she doesn't need to sleep, but she's silly and tired." He then playfully poked the little girl's nose and stood up again to address the group.

"For now, I want everyone to grab a weapon and what they need for the trip, but travel light. We will be bringing back supplies." He followed his own device, but still hesitated before leaving his sniper rifle behind. He really did not like to part with it. Instead, he left his pistol in its holster and grabbed an M4 off the rack on the wall along with two spare clips of ammunition. If Loretta or Nitori had any objections, Wilhelm would try his best to coax them into staying. If he was unsuccessful, then he would keep a close eye on them. Otherwise, the crew would set off as quickly as possible.

On their way down through the hospital, there were still no infected to be found, aside from the corpse of a Brawler that was killed in a previous encounter that day. Setting off towards the lower streets, they would make their way around the majority of zombies returning to their normal habitats. However, it would soon become clear that there were more zombies out now than there had been just a few hours earlier. The group was walking into the arms or danger.

Varyn took note of everyone's demeanor. The girl was obviously not pleased with anything happening. She seemed to be silently brooding with hatred for what he had said and the options he had presented them with. He did not blame her, but didn't care either. He came here to get survivors out alive. Interestingly enough, one happened to be a woman. It seemed like no one knew how big of a factor that was in all of this. On top of that, he found a group traveling with a Hoarder. That meant he could definitely save them before they ended up being eaten. The fiery-headed boy was ticked off and demanding control. That wasn't a big deal. The big'un was really tense and trying to console the little kid-zombie, but he agreed that they should leave. He wondered if the big guy had even once noticed that the boy was cold as a corpse. Esmai was not holding up so well either. That was fantastic. What a rag-tag group of survivors they had. He silently and slowly nodded once to Emma's comment about not being left many options. He did not want to seem like he was insulting them any longer. He would not go back on his word- but he would make sure they all got out alive.

Dylan looked over at Liam when he answered nearly instantaneously in favor of leaving. His eyes narrowed for a moment, but he saw that he was only comforting his little brother. The big guy was probably just worried about keeping the little guy safe. Emma voiced exactly what he had just been thinking: they really didn't have much of a choice. He nodded and said, "Alright then. It looks like we're traveling together." He began to grab some of the healthier food from the cart and put it into his athletic bag. Zach was easily comforted by Liam and whispered a small "Thank you." before being settled back into place on the giant's shoulders.

After Emma had asked her question, Varyn pulled his machete out of the floorboards and put it into its sheath. "Although he is the leader, I would like to make a suggestion." the bush-man said calmly, "I have a small house in the Apartment Complex where I stash food, water, weapons, ammunition, and various other supplies as well as things to carry them in. I would like to suggest that we stop there and pick some things up before moving out of the City towards the nearby Town." He then became silent and looked to Dylan.

Dylan thought about it for a moment and then nodded. "That does sound like a good idea. We'll make our way there then." As they grouped up and got ready to leave, Dylan whispered to Emma "I don't trust these people, but if they're telling the truth we need to get out of here. Also, I have Alex's gun if he tries to pull anything." He made sure that no one else could hear what he had to say before moving to the doors and opening them. He could clearly see a small group of zombies approaching from a distance down the road, moving in a tight formation straight for the Library.
"Crap."

Esmai wasn't sure what her opinion was on making the young man the group leader. She didn't feel too keen on Varyn, who she knew to be very capable, stepping down. She hadn't been toted around with him long, but she'd seen enough. There'd been enough situations where his expertise kept them safe. And keeping her alive? She felt like that was a challenge in itself. But her judgement against the redhaired boy wasn't fair and she knew it. She knew she was basing it off his age. She could tell she was his senior by at least five years. Likely more. Despite that, he looked to be well off. He and his group had a nice supply of food in the cart. It wouldn't last them forever, but it would last a bit. And he was keeping a group of three other people. She was going to trust his ability to lead and not balk. Even if she didn't trust him, she probably wouldn't have said anything. She didn't want to make enemies and Varyn already gave him the word.

Esmai smiled wryly at the answer of their next destination. It wasn't long ago that they were ambushed there, if they were thinking of the same apartment. A lot of the supplies had been trampled but there were still salvageable things, wren't there? Among the wreckage the feet of hoarded zombies caused, perhaps. Unless he was talking about a different place. If so, how many safe places did Varyn have? How much supplies was one man compiling? That wasn't really important or relevant. She didn't question him yet.

It didn't look like they were taking the food supply with them. They didn't pause much longer before they were readying to take off out of the library. Esmai chose to stick closer to Varyn than she did the new people. Liam took to the back, making up the rear of the group. He hoped nobody would mind. It just seemed like he might get in someone's way if he wasn't there and he didn't want that. He watched the two members of the new group while they grouped, then glanced over the people he knew. Nobody looked very comfortable. It was obvious enough that even he saw that. He, of course, said nothing of it. He said nothing at all. Zach was back to being content and his group, now two people larger, was in agreement. He had nothing to object to. Esmai had nothing to add, either.

It didn't look fantastic outside. Not the worst situation to be in, but by far not the best. Being back at the safehouse would be best. Liam looked over the heads of his group and took notice of the zombie cluster marching towards them. He focused on them and waited for someone who knew what they were doing to give an idea. Hell, if Zach said something he'd probably do it. Esmai saw the distant and approaching group, clearly determined on reaching the library. She couldn't quite count them yet, but they looked... manageable? At least for Varyn, perhaps. She thought he could shoot them down if he revealed any of the guns she'd seen him with before. She continued looking around, swiveling her head to observe the rest of their surroundings. By now she was getting the idea that "don't let your guard down" was the best zombie apocalypse advise she had.

ooc: Can't tell if it's my turn or not... Posting anyways (sorry for the lack of things to reply to ;;;;; )

" Fire is not the only thing that can burn. "

        ────────────────────────────────────────────────

Jacqueline, intensely focused on scaling the roofs, was oblivious to the arising danger of the monster following her. She had scaled another rooftop in the last ten minutes, that one had been easier, and she had effortlessly jumped onto the roof as it was slightly lower than the building she had jumped from, enabling her to go further along the way to the location of the mall.

She was gingerly walking along a rooftop, keeping her body low as she moved, pushing against the ground with her foot before moving her entire body weight on top of it. She was sticking to the edges of the roof, as she knew the middle of the roofs may be susceptible to cave in because of decay and neglect after the bombs had dropped, it was quite a wonder there were still rooves here at all actually. Some of the past towns Jacqueline had gone through could barely be called mounds at all, as they were more like a pile of rubble. Although keeping her out of the way of a roof caving in, being close to the edge was raising the danger of being spotted by the zombies below. They were seemingly thinning out throughout the back streets of the apartments and offices, which granted Jacqueline some ease of mind, but she still didn't want to be caught unawares by a passing zombie which had the will to climb the building sides.

She was looking over the side of a building, pushing her long black hair out of her line of vision when she saw the zombie trailing her. She stared at it accusingly for another microsecond as it stared back at her, before moving back out of sight. Jacqueline didn't move for a good minute, running through what she knew already before making an action. The zombie was a cannibal, cannibals were terrifying granted, but they couldn't climb with ease; meaning the roofs were safe for the moment. She began planning out what to do in her head before moving on. Chances were that if she kept moving towards the mall, where the rest of the zombies were going, the cannibal trailing her would alert others, then she'd be out of the fry pan and into the fire. However, if she moved outwards, back to the west, she could easily get out of town where the zombies would be thinner and she could deal with the cannibal then. She grimaced to herself, yeah sure, deal with the flesh eating cannibal, sure.

After making up her mind, Jacqueline stood and walked to the edge of the building where she had previously landed and looked down to the streets below. There were no zombies around, except for the cannibal, so she took into account the risk of noise from jumping onto the roof and the number of zombies on the street before going for it. She ran to the edge of the building, the same routine that she used to jump buildings, and jumped for the next building confidently. She wasn't aiming to land onto the rooftop, she knew she wouldn't be able to because of the height difference between buildings, instead she aimed for grabbing the ledge with her fingers.

The cannibal was directly underneath Jacqueline when she caught the ledge with one of her hands, the other had slipped off when she had grabbed it. She was about to haul herself up onto the rooftop when suddenly a gruesome face looked over the edge, and grabbed at her arm. Jacqueline, without a second thought, let go of the rooftop ledge and immediately regretted her decision. Her back landed on one of the fire escape floor landings and she groaned in pain. She moved to stand up, the iron staircase groaning as she did so. As Jacqueline stood to full height and readjusted her backpack, the staircase made a loud, unapproving noise and Jacqueline moved with the knowledge of someone who knew what was coming next. As she dashed up the fire escape, the bolts in the wall were coming undone as it's years of wear were suddenly tested. The rust surrounding the bolts were flaking away and Jacqueline dashed up the fire escape with frantic movements and adrenaline pumping.

She only barely managed to get to the top of the fire escape stairs when the whole thing suddenly, but not surprisingly, came undone from the wall and leered out to the side. Jacqueline jumped onto the rooftop easily as the construction suddenly broke away from the wall and fell away from the roof.
Although; Jacqueline wasn't focusing on the staircase for the moment, instead she was drawing her katana and facing off the common zombie that was charging at her. The zombie was easy enough to deal with, a wide but powerful swing of her katana and the rotted corpse's head was lying on the floor, vile blood seeping from it and the now inanimate corpse.

Jacqueline didn't allow herself to have a moments rest, she wanted to get as far away from the cannibal as possible. She jumped to the next roof with no problems and jumped onto the one after that, which had a huge gaping hole in the middle of it.

☠OOC:☠ ((Alrighty, here we go!))

Wilhelm was happy to see that the beginning of their journey went so smoothly. In fact, it seemed as if it went all too well. He frowned as the joyful feeling soured and replaced it with a much more cautious premonition. Things were going to get worse. When there were no undead around and the sun was slowly sinking, things we bound to sprout up. As if on cue, a zombie rounded the corner in front of him. He pushed his hands outward in a sudden action purely based on reflex and drew his sidearm forward, putting an almost silent bullet into its skull. He quickly moved around the corner to assess the situation and was not pleased with what he found. There were dozens, if not hundreds of zombies milling around the streets across from their new position. Since they were now much closer to the mall, he could only presume that there were even more beyond that. He sighed as silently as he could and pulled himself back around the corner to face the group. His face was already a dead giveaway of what lay before them around the corner. It was grave and sullen, full of a sense of failure and frustration. He approached the group, getting as close as he could to avoid talking loudly.

"We need to stop here and turn back." he whispered,"There are far too many undead in the streets over there, and there must be more in the direction of the Mall." He frowned and shook his head. "I am truly sorry, if I had acted sooner we may have been able to retrieve some supplies." He watched as Freyja continued on despite his warning, preferring to stick to her plan of retrieving what she needed from the Mall and avoiding human contact. Wilhelm was going to say something, but instead kept his mouth shut. Without any more hesitation, he began making his way back towards the Hospital. It is unknown what would happen to Freyja, but the survivors would not turn back to find out since it would be suicide. Meanwhile, the caravan of zombies and the Mercenaries had begun to move from the Mall and spread out into the city streets.

Wilhelm took a different turn around the middle of the City and began to head towards the City Complex and Apartment Complexes. He remembered that there was a good supply of food, weapons, and supplies in another house. He assumed that they belonged to another survivor, but he needed to do something for his group. He honestly hoped that he would find the survivor there so that he could ask the person before taking supplies. As they marched forward, they were faced with a small hoard paired with a Gorger. There were a total of seven zombies including the mutated one. Wilhelm's eyes widened upon seeing the grotesque oddity open its maw and crawl towards them. He did not hesitate in reaching for his M4 and firing. It was not silenced, but he favored killing the mutant before he figured out what it did. "Aim for the strange one first- I'm not sure what it can do, but it is far more dangerous than the other undead!" A few bullets buried themselves into its head and body, but it still crawled forward. The staccato of gunfire drew some attention from nearby crevices, calling forth some more undead. The group would need to act fast to overcome this new obstacle.

Dylan readied his bat but was only second in reaction. Varyn slid a silenced sidearm out of the holster on his side and placed five shots out at the undead group. One was caught in the neck, severing the spine and causing it to drop. Another was clipped in the knee, causing it to stumble and fall. The third was dispatched with two shots in its skull. The last zombie lazily began to crawl towards them again, but the survivor simply holstered his side arm and pointed in the direction of the Apartment Complex. "It's over this way."

Dylan was a bit surprised at how well the man-bush seemed to handle the situation, especially from a decent distance. "Alright." was his simple reply, taking the lead and walking forward through the streets. As he passed by Varyn he said, "Nice shooting." The survivor only nodded and continued forward behind him. Every once in a while he would look back at Zach with a curious expression, wondering how he could separate the boy from the group. Accusations would probably not sit well at the current time (even though they are true), and calling out a 'survivor' of a newly formed group as infected would probably cause a little too much paranoia and chaos. He opted for silence this time, hoping that they boy would not continue to trigger zombies from coming forth. He was going to study the child's tell, already assuming that it had to do with anxiety.

As the member made their way through the city streets, they encountered very little resistance unless Zach was spooked. It seemed that for the most part, the zombies were not yet thoroughly spread to each corner of the city. Numbers in the hordes began to drastically increase as time passed, but they soon found themselves at the apartments. Dylan cracked a zombie upside the head with his bat as they stood in the entrance to the Complex. He let out a sigh and looked around, not sure of where to proceed. "Hey man, which one is it?" he asked Varyn, turning to face him. The bush-man was staring at Zach intently, watching the child shiver and cower. He seemed to ignore the question as he looked around them. Although there were no zombies coming there way, he did happen to notice a Zombie Cannibal walking around as if it was following someone. He stepped away from the group for a moment to take a closer look and was rewarded by seeing a figure jump from one rooftop to another. He wanted to make sure that he had seen that right, but then Dylan growled, "Hey! I asked you a question." He stopped and turned around, almost having forgotten that he was stuck in a group of people. He looked about and then pointed to an apartment near the Zannibal that looked like it had been raided.

"It's over there, and it looks like someone may have found it." He began walking over there before Dylan cut him off and said, "Not so fast, we should make a plan first, in case someone is really in there." That's when he turned to Emma and asked, "How do you think we should approach this?"

As the group was discussing the situation, Zach was comfortably perched on Liam's shoulders. He was able to the the form that Varyn had seen on the roof. It looked like a lady. He knew it was a person because zombies don't jump. He thought about what the group was planning and then whispered to Liam, "Hey Liam... there's a girl up there i think." As he watched, a couple of zombies had found their way out of the Office Complex. They wandered out of the window and saw a human on a roof. One of them started off after her while the other one tripped and fell with a light smack. It groaned and tried to get up again. Zach yelled, "Watch out!" His little hands squeezed tighter around Liam's head as he saw an unfortunate scene unfold. The eager infected ran at Jacqueline and swung out an arm with a growl, knocking them both over the edge of the hole. She was fortunate to land on a mattress, most likely only knocking the wind out of her. The zombie was rewarded for its effort with a wooden bed board denting its forehead in. The zombie's neck snapped and the only noise left over from the fall was the sound of the second zombies groaning above, moving closer. When it reached the edge it stopped and growled, not sure what to do with itself.

The Zannibal moved with a new purpose into the house, wading through boxes and bodies towards the stairs. A few undead in the house heard the noise from the fall and were alerted to Jacqueline's presence, moving towards the bedroom.

Zach pointed forward at the house and yelled, "We have to help her, Liam!" Dylan turned around to all the commotion and balked at the scenario. Suddenly the child was lively and calling shots and there were zombies. Was there a new survivor? He had no idea. Varyn turned to Esmai to see what she wanted to do.

Jacqueline was never one to scream, she was not a person who would voluntarily be loud and would usually try to hold inside voices in, so she surpised herself when a high pitched scream made it's way from her lips as the zombie pulled her through the middle of a roof. Before Jacqueline was dragged into the roof, she was sure that she had seen survivors on the ground below her, walking around all willy nilly. The scream that was forcing it's way out of Jacqueline's lips and alerting other zombies however, was cut short by the wind being knocked out of her when she landed on a thin mattress. Jacqueline groaned and rolled over as the zombies growling got closer. She was nearly back on her feet when she noticed the zombie standing at the edge of the roof, wondering what to do next. "Don't you dare." Jacqueline muttered to the undead, before hearing the sound of movement coming from outside the bedroom.

Jacqueline's breath hitched in her throat as she drew her sword. She cleared out a space around her, a space large enough for her to swing her sword freely without it hitting any obstacles. Managed to push most of the debris away with her foot, the rest of the debris would have to be maneuvered around if possible.

The noises were getting closer, and the zombie that was standing on the roof had supposedly decided to give it a shot and had jumped down to the bedroom, resulting in a quick cut from Jacqueline and a head rolling along the floor. The corpse was pushed out of Jacqueline's circle as she got into her stance and awaited what was coming. She had tried to be careful whilst jumping alone the roofs, and it had worked for her so far, she guessed her luck had just ran out.

Suddenly, the thought of the zannibal invaded Jacqueline's brain and her stane wavered, Zannibals were not fun, not in the slightest. The skinless monsters that doesn't give up on it's prey seemed like a metaphor to Jacqueline, and oh how she wished that it was all that it was. A metaphor to suggest a person who wouldn't give up on something, no matter the cost. The metaphor would be so much easier to deal with instead of this thing that stalked her. Jacqueline breathed out of her mouth, she had to kill it to get it to leave her alone; it was the only way.

Jacqueline decided that if she died here, it would be an end, a way out of this world, she would be able to see her father again. But living, living wasn't too bad either. Jacqueline flinched as the door to the bedroom was hit, and she mentally screamed at her body to stay strong, why was she shaking! Stop! She was strong, she had done this, she could do this.. The door was hit again, sending dust flying from the crevices around the door, she knew it was about to be broken down. Then, her mouth betrayed her for the second time in under an hour, what she thought she could handle apparently her brain did not agree with her; "Help! Someone! Help me! Jacqueline did not consider herself as weak, as a frightened child who would cry in a corner under the stress of a horrific event, but at the moment the last thing she wanted to do was face the demons of this world.

At least the group wasn't going to start fighting immediately. That was... good. Esmai supposed it could be worse. She didn't dare say it, but Dylan's previous concerned were a bit misplaced. If Varyn had really not meant to recruit them, if his intention was to kill them and be done with it, they'd be long gone. The thought felt morbid. She didn't sit well with it. She didn't think it again.

After a few shots at the most concerning group of zombies, they were mostly down. One was left pathetically crawling, but it was ignored. She doubted wasting a bullet on it was worth putting the zombie out of it's misery. In it's state, it wasn't much of a danger to anyone. And as she was convinced, it didn't feel pain. Liam didn't think much of the thing, either. It wasn't going to hurt him and it wasn't a priority. Top priority was staying with this group. It was a big group, like he was supposed to be with. In the matter of less than a day, he went from being entirely alone to having this group. He didn't know if they'd stay together for long, but for the moment, they had to move. So they were together for that.

While they were moving, Liam was growing more uncomfortable being near the bush-man. He couldn't see the man's face or tell exactly where he was looking, but he thought the man was looking back at him each time he turned around. Either him or Zach. He was clueless as to why, and he didn't feel eyes on him, but he didn't much like it. He'd like it even less if the man actually was watching Zach. He'd only just met the kid, but he wouldn't react too well to someone jeopardized him. It was an overreaction. He should be watching around him, not watching the gas mask every time it was pointed at him and Zach. The guy was probably just watching the rear, making sure nothing suspicious snuck up on them. Liam felt guilty for making the earlier assumption.

Esmai tried to keep her eyes watching the surroundings and to keep her wits about her. A growing group was, as she didn't realize until then, more likely to been seen than just two people. One of them being dressed as a bush. But, being said, the attention wasn't terrible or anything they couldn't handle. Or, at least for Varyn and the boy to handle. Esmai wasn't helping with the little commotion there was. She wasn't a good shot and she'd likely waste bullets she could need later. They were far more efficient. Liam was keeping to the back as well, since the rest of the group could clearly dispatch the few zombies that popped. up. He held his weapon nonetheless. They both turned their attention to whoever was talking when they spoke up. Esmai half-glared at the red head for raising his voice. She didn't think it was necessary. Varyn answered him anyways. Esmai watched the repulsive Zombie Cannibal outside of the apartment warily. She ready to approach the place, but neither her or seemed permitted. The redhead preferred asking the other girl what she wanted to do. She watched them both and expected the answer soon so they could get moving inside. Whether inside the apartment or inside the safehouse, she didn't care. zombies were distant, but the frequency of them was higher than she'd ever seen. They weren't going to have very long to stand around.

Liam was oblivious to most of the detail in the situation, including but not limited to, Zach's lack of heat, the figure jumping around from roof to roof, and the Zannibal. He was just watching whoever was talking. His attention went to Zach when he was whispered to. He cocked his head to side to listen to Zach, then looked where he seemed to. He tried to spot a figure of an alleged girl up there, but he didn't quite see anything. But he did hear something. Whoever Zach had seen, he trusted that he really did see someone, was screaming. He lurched forward, towards the sound, out of instinct. But he snapped his head back to the group. He was driven to save the voice or at least fight whatever caused them to scream. Liam was very much in agreement with Zachery's cry. If they waited too long, he may have even ran in himself. Which was a terrible idea. He didn't have anything more useful than a hatchet. But he'd be damned if he just didn't do anything about someone hurt.

Esmai felt similarly, but was more wary of the danger. She heard the scream just as he had, but she knew she couldn't go dashing in on her own. She didn't want to wait for the two teens to talk it out, so when Varyn looked at her for an opinion, she nodded with as much of a serious expression as she could muster. That wasn't much of an answer to anything. He didn't ask a question. She tugged on his wrist in the direction of the house anyways. The teens could wait outside if they didn't want to help but that woman's scream wasn't going unchecked by her. Esmai pulled her pistol, and if Varyn was to enter, she'd be behind him and do what she could. If they both left, Liam would be right behind them, but leave Zach at the door and quickly plead to him to wait there and relax, be silent.
