LIFE DIVISION Plasma Ray Charge: 6"Uhh," Robert laughed nervously. "It didn't get me, so much as I-" That was as far as his explanation was going to go, because Mimsy's sudden outburst had him dropping everything in his hands with surprise. He couldn't remember ever hearing her that mad. He turned to stare at her, wide eyed, but she had no eyes for him. She was just glaring at Lucky like she wanted to aim the plasma ray at him. And he had no idea why. His expression crumpled with worry, as he flickered his gaze from one sibling to another. He remembered Mimsy telling him that this was her brother, so fights didn't seem entirely out of the ordinary.. but the intensity of her anger had Robert questioning just what was the cause of their argument. Especially since.. they were just fine not too long ago when they put together this party. What the hell could have happened between now and then? Lucky was trapped in a monsters stomach. "Did I miss something?" Entirely probable.

Lucky was also looking toward the source of the outburst. But unlike Robert, his expression made it look almost as if he'd expected it. He gave Mimsy a half-lidded gaze back, as if she'd ruined his fun. There wasn't a whole lot of distance to cover to get from Robert to her. He placed a cold, slimy hand reassuringly on Robert's shoulder as he stood up. "Excuse me." "I vould tell you to ask me again after you barely escape from becoming that creature's dinner," he began, emotion bleeding into his voice here and there in an unintentional manner. "But I know this is stressful time for all, so I let it slide." "Are you okay?" he asked Mimsy in a low, almost cold voice, tilting his head slightly to the side. The language shifted drastically as he spoke again, a single sentence of Russian, neither of their native tongue but familiar enough to both to get the point across with few if any eavesdroppers. Shiloh and Robert were behind him. He flashed Mimsy a small, dangerous smile only she could see. " Maybe we need to talk."

LIFE DIVISION Plasma Ray Charge: 7
This was all very confusing. Noah looked at the bustle of people he didn't know and the bustle of people he barely knew and decided that this would be a great time to just shut the hell up, keep his head down, and do the job he'd been handed.
He found a rune that looked like it matched the ones on the ray gun (ray gun holy s**t they were back to super high tech this was amazing) and watched the people around him to figure out how to place it. "I wish I knew what this meant," he muttered to himself as he fumbled it into place.

That had worked. Noah dug through the box, glancing rapidly up and down from the gun to the runes in his hands, and found another match. In the back of his mind, he was storing shapes for later reference. There were a lot of glyphs. Was this an alphabet, or were the individual symbols syllables or words, or might they be entire phrases? Assuming, of course, that this was a language in the first place. If it was more like a schematic, it'd work in a totally different way.

Noah dug through the box again, but either he wasn't finding the right runes or he wasn't recognizing them, and after an increasingly frantic few minutes, someone he didn't recognize wearing a more complicated coat than his pushed him aside. "If you're not being useful, get the hell out of the way," she barked, and grabbed several runes out of the box with just a glance.
Noah shrunk in on himself and retreated quietly to stand next to the wall, where he tried to be invisible.
I COULD BITE HER.
"No!" Noah yelped, then remembered not to speak out loud to his weapon. No, oh my god that is SUCH a bad idea Laz, we'd get in huge huge trouble and anyway we should be fighting the thing and not each other, oh my god Laz no we're not doing that.
I WANT TO BITE, the weapon growled softly, but he stopped tugging at Noah's mind.

Mimsy’s sudden change in tone made Shiloh turn in surprise, dropping the runes from his hand. He hadn’t heard Mimsy use such a voice before, nor those choice words, and he stared between her and Lucky, wondering what exactly was going on. Judging from Robert’s question, he didn’t understand it either. “Mimsy,” Shiloh called tentatively from behind Lucky, “Is everything alright?”

Life DivisionThe hands Mimsy held towards Lucky were shaking, and it wasn't until she saw them that she paused and realized what she'd said. Why? She looked disgusted. What was that? It felt so similar to her interactions with Clerise, but dampened in some ways and magnified in others, and she worried over the lack of control. The worry must have extended to the others, even if it was for different reasons; she slowly nodded to them, trying her hardest to micromanage her every breath, movement, and thought. "You didn't miss something. Your observations have been impressive, on the contrary. It is only a conflict of sibling rivalry," she explained, which still wasn't much of an explanation at all. "It will pass." Or one of them would die. That somehow seemed more possible at moment than accepting the idea that either of them would ever let this do anything other than escalate. A deep breath as she tried to return to the minimal. No more trying too hard, because it must have been too much. Her lips were pressed into a thin line as she watched Lucky, hurriedly trying to remove any indications of emotion on her face. This was new, but familiar in the context of him. Song, more specifically. Ultimately...this was concerning. More than she wanted to admit. "I am fine. In such optimal condition, even, that I managed to escape being 'that creature's dinner' so I could assemble a recovery mission. I simply found myself astounded at the idea that you would not grasp the mechanics of matching one symbol to one other symbol. No brother of mine would ever find that challenging in any regard. The thought was maddening." He suggested a talk, wrapped up in a smile only for her, and her faint frown twitched, threatening a sneer. What clever tactics. Just when she had been sure that she could let her guard down, too. But she'd had an entire lifetime of combat against Clerise, and she was in no way ill-equipped. Disoriented and more than a little bit confused at her own reaction, yes, but not disarmed. " Nyet." She was weaker by her own definition now, but genetics were on her side, and there was something reassuring about the ability to stand taller and stare down at him. "What we need is to attend to our assigned tasks, Szczeosny. If we had been focused on our requisite work, rather than dabbling in side projects or juvenile competition, this would not have happened in the first place." As she passed Shiloh, she touched his shoulder and smiled in a way that she hoped might be comforting. He deserved it - he always listened to her, always knew when to speak and when not to, when to touch or keep his hands away. Her hands moved to a box of runes again, thumb pressing into one of the inlaid grooves. " Talk later," she muttered, Polish this time, before shifting her focus to the runes. This was not her science, but she poured every ounce of her attention into seeking out every visible combination of matches, each method of connecting the dots, because she preferred the science of children's games to trying to understand...whatever was happening. Life DivisionLucky and Mimsy really were acting like what Robert considered to be sibling rivalry, on the surface. But he felt the sincerest sense of foreboding, every time they switched to a different language. They were hiding something. And they were both so very good at it.He didn't need to know what they were conspiring about. That they were doing so was enough. Mimsy turned to Shiloh for support, and Robert felt the expected stab of jealousy that he always did when someone else was turned to instead of him. It wasn't even anything new. He rolled his eyes at his own obvious reactions, and stopped fiddling with the runes. For all he knew, Lucky hated Shiloh, and Mimsy was just trying to get back at him. That's what he'd have done if he was pissed off with Poe. In the end, Robert decided that he didn't want to be in the middle of a sibling fight anymore, because it was hurting his heart in inexplicable ways that made him believe he shouldn't even be there. And that was easily remedied. "Good luck guys." He patted each person's shoulder in turn as he passed; Lucky, Mimsy, Shiloh, and then Leon's at the very end. But that was all he said, as he moved away from the runic table and looked for something else he could help with - something that would keep his mind off of how sick to his stomach he suddenly felt.

Life DivisionShiloh was even more confused now, if it were possible. Mimsy had said she was fine, but her answer didn’t really clear up any of his questions, and Shiloh had a hard time believing that Mimsy would be the sort of sibling that was cruel. Perhaps she and Lucky were just in a fight at the moment, he reasoned. Her smile as she passed him seemed genuine enough, and he let his worry go, hoping the situation between the two of them would be resolved, at least for now. He smiled back broadly, and was about to say something, when Robert suddenly wished them luck, and patted his shoulder much like Mimsy had. Shiloh stared at Robert’s retreating backside with a frown; Mimsy’s emotions were like trying to figure out an impossible jigsaw, but Robert was like an open book, wearing his heart on his sleeve. It was no good, Shiloh thought, to have fixed one problem only to find another. Thinking quickly, he wiped some of the slime from his hands, and flipped over one of the empty rune boxes, hoisting himself up on top of it. He might have lobbed a useless rune Robert’s way, before tucking his hands innocently behind his back and clearing his throat. “Hey! I don’t know what has gotten into all of you but as I really don’t want to be eaten again, or have to share a bunker with you if you’re all still fighting, can’t you just kiss and make up so we can all move on? C’mon Robert, do it for Deus!” He tried to keep the grin off of his face, but the emotion seeped into his words, and the poor man’s speech came off as decidedly cheeky, rather than bravely rousing.

This wasn't going to be easy, and Before knew it. Oh sure, it was a big target. A huge target even. In theory, that meant it would be easier to hit, since there was more of it to hit. In theory, everyone on the Island has had some experience with the weaponry available, or at the very least the controls were dumbed down enough to the point someone like him would be able to use it. Again, this was all in theory.
But Before and judging by the looks of some of the other Hunters, the ones who've been around longer, knew better than to put their complete faith in a theory that hasn't been put to practice. Because while Theory promised lots of good things, Practice proved more permanent. And in this case, Before's time and tried dumb luck was being put into practice.
As Lance shouted out instructions, Before did his best to listen and not let the amount of runes on the missile launcher overwhelm him. In the end, dumb luck had the Mist Hunter pressing just enough of the correct runes to make a decent combination.

And wouldn't you know it, dumb luck also has this tendency to be completely unreliable. Before really should have left well enough alone as far as the runic coordinates went. Or at the very least tried to remember which combination he'd used in the first place before pushing new runic choices all willy-nilly.
Maybe then his second shot with the missile launcher wouldn't have targetted thin air. Seriously, Before? It's a huge target. And, yes, it's moving at an alarming speed (in all fairness, that it was moving at all was in and of itself alarming) but still. It was right there and couldn't this thing make more sense to coordinate and use!? The Mist Hunter resisted the urge to slam his fist on the controls, not wanting to risk blowing themselves up by accident. Not even going to lie, he doesn't put it past the people doing maintenance on this to have inadvertently added such an option to the missile launchers.
Or any of the other wall-mounted weapons to say the least.

Rather than let frustration get the better of him, Before decided to actually pay attention to what he was doing. Since his second shot had missed completely, he opted not to use the same rune combination with the coordinates this time around. As random as his choices were, he made sure to note which ones he'd pushed for this third attempt.
He fired, and as the missiles shot out, Before found himself grinning as a good chunk of them hit their target. And, yeah, it wasn't as accurate as his first shot, but it hit and that was infinitely better than not hitting anything, wasn't it?

Alright, alright, if this combination of runes got him that sort of result, maybe changing just one option would net him a better one? It was worth a shot, and it wasn't as if Lance or any of the more reasonable (yes, it is necessary to quantify these) division heads and assistants could fault him for the missile launchers' performance. Not when it was taciturn from the get-go.
