It would take a short time to escape from the glass tornado that was taking place above Null. This gave it somewhat of a time to react. Intereastingly enough - it seemed content down there without air.

This brought on the question of if it had to breath or not...off topic.

Bullets went down and into the glass storm. There was a loud screech as the thing screamed in pain - but the affected point was mostly hidden beneath the storm.

The whirlpool seemed to slow ever so slightly as something else started. A burst of white light reflecting off the glass and blinding anyone who stared into the pool without protection of the eyes.

Kind of like looking into the sun.
Lots and lots of light...

Gamma released himself from Gammu, landing heavily in the sand further from the egg. It turned itself into a torch.

With the flash Gamma's HUD switched to infrared, which was just as bright (I assume) from the heat of whatever it was doing. Atleast the HUD didn't get bright enough to blind him.

Dropping to a crouch Gamma pulled a fighting knife with his right hand, from his left shoulder sheathe. Just had to wait for this thing to move it's a**.

The mono-lens visibly darkened as light flooded it and Gammu's systems swiched to infared to cut out most of the light. Long training had made him comfortable with such rapid shifts. Releasing his hold upon the cannon it slid back into place. Taking out his shot gun he adopted a quasi riot march stance. "Looks like we have more company."

At first sight of the bright glow Charles's arm went instinctively for his eyes. Letting the lenses of his glasses adjust to the light, the Chauffeur looked up again, his glasses now sunglasses. Nice light show.

As he approached the brothers and Null he waved his white shirt sleeve in the air. "Here to help!" he yelled, "Not to maim... well, not you guys."

Allen might have called out to Degs to hold back, or moved with him, but...hey, his hands were still glowing, and getting brighter. And he didn't want to interrupt this quite yet. Luckily for him, at least, the light from the hole where Null was didn't effect his eyes. Thank god for sunglasses.

The world was obviously built on the backs of millions of third world immigrants who craft sunglasses and heat sensors for scraps of bread. That was not important at this time but would be at the next meeting of nations.

All this time the only clearly visible portion of Null's body had been that part of wing sticking up - just out of the whirlpool - like a shark's fin. The same one that had been broken by Gamma not all that long ago. Also the one that had been covered in brown glow all of this time.

Should it have really been a suprize when it whipped around and then slid - like a viper - into the pool beneath it and vanished? Even more so the speed at which it traveled.

Apparently Null had taken to the underground to recover. Strangely enough its mouth was no longer visible as a black hole at the bottem of the whirlpool.

Unfortunately - that was still spinning round and round even without the creatures presence. To the heat sensors the signals would probably be more confusing then helpful.

Gamma stood, getting rather pissed off at the fact this thing wouldn't die. He holstered his sidearm again and kept the knife ready.

Not really listening, Gamma didn't give much response to whoever came out of the van. If they were here to help they better have some heavy digging machinery.

Starting into a sideward jog, Gamma was going to keep moving. If that thing was underground he didn't want it to be under him.

If there was time enough in the world Gammu would have sworn and cussed up a storm, but time was costly. His jump system engaging he leapt into the air and came to a landing upon the board walk. Moving to the edge he took aim at the area bellow, covering Gamma. Ignoring the interlopers Gammu had the weapon set to automatic fire so he didn't need to manually chamber a new shell each time.

Seeing the brothers were all about the business, Charles felt it was time to do the same. Backtracking back to Allen, the Chauffeur contacted the van via his PDA. "Stryphe," he said, "use the seismograph in the van, the one we used on the secret base? This thing's gone underground, and I need to track it. Get on it fast."

"I'm on it," Stryphe called back. "s**t... this thing's shaking an awful lot, but I've got the general area of it locked and being tracked."

And Allen still stood there, his glowing hands getting brighter and brighter as more time passed. He wasn't especially worried about whatever the monster was, though. It was likely, at least, that if it came up underneath him there'd be enough warning for someone like him to escape. Even if just a second. And anywhere else...well, he could handle it.

Flare was still there, circling above the ground, watching the place where the monster had been. Like Allen, her hands were glowing brighter and brighter as her flame charged...

Slide. Slide. Slide.

Gradually it made its way back up to the surface. At the least it was a good twenty feet from the pool it had left behind. The ground in its path was undisturbed save the slightest sinkening as it dug through. There was no chance - unless a person was pyschic - of detecting exactly where it was.

So it should have come as something of a suprize when - a mere foot from the surface - it erupted out of it like a cannon ball. The massive wings were put to use as it flapped them once and basically shot upwards. By the time Gamma or Gammu brought a gun to bare or Allen and Flare managed to attack - it would start up.

First to turn and fold its wings into the earlier funnel shape. And then - without even a pause - bursting the earlier beam out of that shuffles funnel even as it fell a bit and hit ground.

Target? Fenrir - who it had been keeping track of through the vibration of his feet hitting the sand as he ran. This thing was quick beneath the surface - it had already managed to get ahead of the armored guy.

Unlike earlier though this one did not just come as a single shot before it blew back. Instead its feet dug deep into the ground - showing suprizing strenght for being so stubby - as it leaned into it. This one was concentrated - aimed right for Gamma's chest with the speed of a bullet - just as wide as the previous one - and by all standards fully prepared to follow him. They were barely ten feet apart if that.

If Gamma fired a round straight at Null - chances were it were eaten by the intense beam. This thing was obviously planning to kill via burning a 3x3 hole straight through the armored menace.

Flare, Allen, and Degs had not even been noticed yet.

Luckily Gamma was running to the side, but that wouldn't stop something three feet in diameter. Gamma raised his right arm instinctively to try and take the brunt of the blow. Considering heat didn't operate on mass, it was pretty stupid.

The knife wilted and then melted and the ceramic heated instantly. With the sudden shock Gamma collapsed onto the sand and out of the beam, his right upper side getting hit the worst. Atleast the boron carbide ceramic held out mostly, the sudden heat and cooling from Gamma rolling in the sand to disperse the heat made the ceramic develope many cracks along his arm, shoulder, and torso.

Inside the armor the heat transfered to the myomers and actuators, themselves being composed of high heat-resistant carbon made shitty insulators. Gamma rolled into the cool(er) sand to try and rid the heat from himself. The internal suit fluctuating the temperature to a sudden chill as the alarms told him that his right side just got owned.

The weapon barked, firing it's projectiles akin to the standard rifle the Deity corp soldiers carried, only this one had a slightly slower fire rate and fired cannisters of tiny fletchettes at mach 7 speeds; giving an over all spread pattern similar to that of bird shoot. A three round burst came from the barrel in a violet display of light from the muzzle flash. Aiming for the stubby little feet Gammu thought to immobilize it.

Upon hearing Stryphe's new news he said, "Allen! It's going to-" Then the action of the brothers came to his attention. "It's there," he said flatly. Looking at his comrade charging up he said, "Ready to kick some a** yet? I don't know how much longer I can stand watching these brothers. They freak me out."
