Just as Ginny was beginning to really get into the kiss, Chris pulled away and announced that he should leave. Ginny pouted slightly but knew that he was right. "Yeah..." she said softly, not wanting him to go. However, she knew that it was too soon for her to ask him to stay. "I'll... see you tomorrow...?"

"Give me your number, and I'll call you..." he waited as she put the number in and got up, taking his jacket. "I really have to go... Ginny nodded and closed her eyes when Chris kissed her again. Hearing his question, she smirked and shook her head. "I don't have a cell phone..." she said, embarrassed as she opened her eyes. She could barely afford having a land-line let alone a cellphone bill. "But I'll give you the number to my apartment...?" She programed her number into Chris's phone and returned it to him. "Good night..." Standing up, Ginny followed Chris to the front door and gave him one last kiss before closing and locking the door behind him. She then sighed and ran her fingers through her short hair as she made her way to her bedroom to change into her pajamas. Lying down under her covers, she stared up at the dark ceiling, silently thinking about the day.

He murmured, realizing it was thoughtless of him to have assumed that she had a phone; especially with what she had to deal with. "Night, b- Ginny," he smiled timidly at her, relishing their last kiss of the night, before he began the walk home, deciding that he needed the fresh air.
The following morning, Chris was in a rush. He had forgotten to turn on his alarm clock and panicked when he woke up at 8... His class today began at 8:45. He rushed to get washed and dressed, throwing on what he had yesterday, and was out of the door in record time. Ginny woke up at her usual time to start her job at the hotel. Work seemed to drag by, but she was soon dropping Alex off at the daycare and making her way to the radio station. Thankfully, someone had bought breakfast for the crew, so Ginny consumed a chocolate chip muffin and a cup of coffee. When she was done there, she frowned to discover that it had started raining. "Great," she muttered, upset that she did not even think to carry an umbrella with her. Running through the rain to the diner, she squeezed out her wet clothes as best as she could before tying her apron around her waist. Betsy handed the younger woman a towel and informed her on which tables needed to be visited. "I'm on it," Ginny said, forcing herself to smile as she walked away. Chris surprisingly was not there and Ginny wondered if he was avoiding her. I hope not... she thought as she took a mug of coffee over to an older gentleman reading the newspaper.

He was unhappy, though, to see that it had begun raining. Usually, he carried an umbrella with him, just in case, but,as luck would have it, he left it at home today. Chris flipped up his hood and began a brisk walk to the diner, figuring it would be nice to have some hot coffee. Besides, it was closer than his apartment.
It took 13 minutes to get to the diner. The rain made it harder for Chris to see and he had to stop and wipe his glasses every few minutes. Finally, though, he made it to the diner and was disappointed to see someone sitting in his booth. Ginny was busy rushing around the diner, as usual, and did not see Chris come in. She kept glancing toward his booth, hoping that the family occupying it would leave soon. What am I thinking? she asked herself as she passed out their desserts. Chris wouldn't leave just because his seat is taken... right? She moved away from his booth to ask a woman if she would like more coffee. After hearing a distracted "yes please," Ginny walked over to the counter to pour another mug of coffee. There, she found a soaked and shivering Chris. "Hey!" Ginny said, smiling to see that her boyfriend had shown up. "Do you need a towel? There should be a dry one in the closet that I can grab for you."

Ginny smiled and nodded. "Sure, let me just-" She was cut off when Chris commented on her appearance. "That's what happens when you work three jobs and have a two-year-old son." She closed her eyes and rested her cheek in his hand for a moment before straightening up again. "I'll be right back." She hurried over to the woman with her new mug of coffee then walked over to the closet to dig for a dry towel. She then draped it over Chris's shoulders and rubbed one end of it over his hair before walking to the other side of the counter and pouring him some coffee. "How was class?"

He took his sweater off, revealing the black t-shirt underneath, and hung on the back of his stool to dry. He felt Ginny before he saw her and grinned up at the petite waitress as she dried his hair. "Thanks." he chuckled, rubbing it on his hair again, and taking a sip of the coffee. "Boring..." he grimaced. "Say, do you know any places that are hiring?" he asked, biting down on his lip thoughtfully. He'd have to get a job, especially if they were going to go out more, now. The money his parents sent wouldn't be enough. Ginny leaned on the counter and shook her head. "Not really," she told Chris sadly. "I haven't exactly been looking for job openings since I've got three jobs already..." She looked around the diner, wondering if her boss was looking to hire someone. That was when she remembered that the hotel was looking for bellhop to work either the afternoon or evening shift. Ginny would have applied for the position herself--since it paid a few dollars more than her cleaning position--but she worked at the diner in the afternoon and needed her evenings to relax, spend time with her son, and sleep. "Actually, the hotel I work at has an opening for a bellhop, but I don't know of any other jobs... Have you tried reading the classified ads? Or using job resources at your college?"

He didn't have classes on Saturdays, and on Wednesday's he only had a morning class. "Er... No..." he gave a sheepish grin. "I didn't think of it... I suppose I could, though." he nodded. On Sunday when he went for his astronomy class he'd check it out. He took another sip of his coffee. Ginny rolled her eyes and smirked. "Silly," she said softly, smiling at her boyfriend's grin. She watched him think for a moment then looked at him curiously when his voice softened. "Busy," she told him, looking around at all the customers sitting in the diner. "And wet. I forgot an umbrella, too, and had to run from the studio here... but I'm dry now from all the hurrying around I've been doing." Glancing up at the clock, she saw that it was almost time for her break. "How long did you plan on sticking around? Because I go on my break soon so we could go out back and hang out for a bit...?"

Maybe tonight he'd do something nice for Ginny, and Alex of course... He wanted to help her out, wanted her to have a bit o an easier life. Ginny shrugged and smiled when Chris took her hand. "I have to..." she told him sadly. "I never graduated from high school and I've got a two-year-old to take care of... I have to make money somehow..." She gave her boyfriend's hand a gentle squeeze before pulling hers away. "Either half-an-hour or an hour. However long you want to stay. Think about it while I finish my rounds." Moving out from behind the counter, Ginny gave Chris a light peck on the cheek before returning to her job for 10 more minutes.
