"Sorry for jumping," Akaya apologized to S'koi. She made no immediate move to take her hand away from S'koi though - slipping it around his arm was really rather comfortable, and she trusted him to tell her if she was being too forward. And good, the black did find His - a very young girl, it looked like. That was lucky, to Impress one's first year Standing. She had as well, but it was different for Holdbred, she thought. From what G'brel said, weyrborn counted years far more carefully, and the sooner one Impressed, the more prestige amongst one's childhood friends. Aaah, another crimson! And chattery still. Would she choose another girl, or perhaps a boy?

Dizz gave an ooo of excitement. "Two crimsons! Look at that!" The atypicals seemed to be going a lot better than the traditional colors so far, even if the candidates seemed to have forgotten their lessons altogether. Courath barely cracked a lid as Brakiath roared again. No one was in any real danger at the moment and with only a couple eggs left she doubted there would be any more mishaps.
.............................
Ailin shifted his weight from foot to foot, growing passive again as the atypicals seemed only focused on the women. He wasn't surprised, there were more over there after all. There was a higher chance of them finding their partners before they tired out. With two eggs left hopefully the candidates would be allowed to return to their barracks. He wanted to change out of his clothes which were damp with sweat from the stress, hot sands and heavy robe.

He grinned. This was, for the most part, a good hatching. Freniar was about to stand up, just to move around a bit when he seen how the atypicals were doing. Three had Impressed, one on the sands looking for Hers. "Who do you think will be the lucky one?" Really it was just to make some conversation, granted it was hard not to gush about the feeling of being complete now that Solath was there with him.

The crimson burbled and stretched her wings again, shaking her head as she blinked and took in the wide world. So much noise! So many smells! So much air!
Inhaling deeply, her eyes whirled a pleasant green-blue with touches of the red of hunger and she surveyed the boys, toddling towards them with unsteady steps. She got about halfway there before she stopped and sat down, tilting her head as she looked them over.
Much of her energy was spent, however, and it was unclear whether she'd changed her mind or if she'd simply run out of steam.

F'ren kept a close eye on those eyes on the crimson, he was watching for any signs of white in them but so far only green with a spot of hungry red. He waited for her to pick Hers already.... they had such limited reserves of energy when they hatched. It would be a very sad thing to lose the little Crimson, when it was so rare that two were in a hatching. HA.... Benden might have got Golds but the atypicals were special and two Crimsons could add two more breeding dragons to Trine, to strengthen the weyr should they and their riders choose to breed instead of fight. It didn't matter that Benden placed little value on Atypicals. This was a truimph for Brakiath despite the lack of Browns, Bronzes or a Queen egg. It was a miracle there were this many eggs at all and Greens and Blues were always good, especially now.... when Thread was falling. The more dragons they had, was more dragons to fight once they were of age which was only good for the whole of Pern, not just Trine Weyr.

"Oooooh That's a tough one...Looks like she's going to the boys right now...but if I could guess...I might say her" Dizzian pointed carefully singling out Aislin for the most part randomly. She didn't really know any of the girls left personally, just from seeing them around the weyr.
......................
Ailin watched the tiny crimson as she blinked her pleasant eyes and moved in his general direction. She stopped well before she was in range though and her lack of energy showed. He'd never have thought that the supposed weakness of the atypicals would be so obvious. Just from seeing the adult dragons he'd assumed it was something slight that only experienced weyr people might notice. He was relatively new to dragons in general but during his short time here he'd already learned more than he'd ever expected there was to know. At least he could say his time at the Weyr wasn't a total waste.

Roeline's eyes widened in surprise at first when the little black addressed her, but a mere few seconds later she was gleeing with a very audible squeal. "Of course!" she replied, dropping down to her knees to greet her new partner. Before actually picking him up though she stopped to give him a hug; she'd been wanting to do this with a baby dragon since meeting them all at the Touching.
Well clearly you couldn't have had a better dragon to hug first then I, the black remarked, eyes whirling a soft blue at the gesture of affection. But please, Roemine? I really am very hungry.
"Ah, of course, of course. Sorry," she said apologetically. She got back onto her feet and very carefully lifted Wofth up into her arms to carry over to the feeding tables. She was going to be taking very good care of him as he grew, and even after still.
I should think so; I did choose you as Mine for a reason you know. After you're done feeding me we can talk so you can get to know me better.
The young brunette beamed. "I would love that. heart And I could introduce you to my family too! And Saffy!" Now she was officially a dragonrider like her older brother~ Best. Day. Ever.
------------------------
S'ren had been watching the events out on the Sands just as closely as his former-Candidate neighbor was, and when he spotted that moment of Impression between his sister and the black he couldn't help a smile of relief. If his sister was going to Impress to a dragon so young, he couldn't have asked for anything better than a black. Soooo many brotherly worries washed away right there. The brownrider had to chuckle a bit at Lena's rather enthusiastic 'congrats'. "Thank you, but I believe the congratulations should go to Roeline herself." Well, 'Roeline' if she didn't decide to abbreviate her name that was, but given that he still had to regularly remind her not to call him Sethren anymore he doubted that would be much of an issue.
We shall have to meet with them after, Tereth remarked, eyes whirling a pleased mix of green and blue. He was glad to see the sister of His bond with a dragon of her own. She had always been a very sweet girl from what he could remember of her. (Namely from His' memories, but close enough.)
No doubt, S'ren replied with a nod. The next several months would easily be the busiest of his little sister's life, but he didn't doubt she'd pull through.

Looking to where Dizzian pointed, he nodded. "She could. I know it is hard to guess." He looked at the remaining group waiting for the Crimson. "Maybe we can help her, once she is over here?"

"We'll all have to be sure to congratulate Roeline and her dragon later," E'lai agreed, offering S'ren a smile. He could tell his friend was relieved, and proud. No doubt S'ren and Roeline's parents would be proud as well - their family could boast of two dragonriders, not to mention all the free transportation all of Pern over they could ever wish for. E'lai knew his own half-sibs who'd gone out the Holds had no qualms in taking advantage of him for that, and he was just glad he could see them more often through the favor-giving.
The crimson's eyes were a good color, E'lai thought, and her choice of stepping towards the boys intriguing, though not unexpected. Male crimsonriders happened; he himself was a male greenrider, so he wasn't one to judge. But the stopping was a little concerning. Perhaps she could judge from where she was?

S'koi shook his head. "No need to apologize." A regular dragon roaring was enough to startle anyone, nevertheless a gold. Luckily, the small black seemed to have collapsed directly in front of His, so the wasted energy from his earlier run had ended up not so wasted after all. The next broken egg revealed a second crimson on the Sands which, considering the size and general state of the clutch thus far, was a rather fortunate turn of events. While he would certainly never be one to devalue the worth of the 'lesser colors', having more dragons with breeding potential around was certainly at least helpful. Now whether or not either crimson would actually choose to breed remained to be seen.

Another crimson sister mine! Empreth said with delight. Allaxon crooned at her happily, only half listening to her excited news and glanced over at the hatching grounds. He sighed happily and hunted for another choice tidbit. One looked particularly satisfying and he trimmed the ugly lump of fat and grisle off before he fed it to the partially distracted green.

Cetalese watched the Crimson Impress, followed by a Black, and then blinked as a second Crimson with a very unique coloring made it on to the Sands, talking up a storm as she considered her options. In this moment, at least, it looked as if there might actually be a Crimson with a male rider, which would be unusual in and of itself. It was good, though. Cetalese felt as if this Clutch was leaning very heavily toward the female Candidates; the male group of Candidates was surprisingly smaller than the female group anyway, but the dragons so far had picked primarily female riders, the Blues being the exception to the rule.
Cetalese wasn't really one to bet, either, but she tried to guess whether or not the Crimson would choose a boy or a girl as her rider, in the end. Not all dragons were as direct as Halith, after all.

The brightly coloured crimson seemed unsure whether she wanted to go to stay and, after several frightening heartbeats, she finally rose and toddled a few paces towards the girls. Her efforts, however, had taxed her too much and she stumbled, forced into another sit. Crying out loudly, her voice echoed well in the Sands. Tilting her head back, she cried out again, fear creeping into her voice. At least until she spotted Hers. Aislinmine! You are so far away! Your Loveth is so tired and hungry! She bugled again, full of hunger and need and care. Kyrieko Watching the new weyrlings head towards the feeding tables, Narisa chose the Thunderclap Egg as her next and last egg. Like all the other eggs, she lined up her shovel, wound up and swung. There was a cracking sound and she stepped back slightly to avoid having the dragonet inside tumble out into her. It wiggled, in protest but the motion of the dragon inside caused one patterned, pale foot to show and the dragon keened in horror at the ruination of its entrance. The egg broke in it's distress and the silver puffed out his chest, disturbed that his grand entrance was so botched by a careful swing of the shovel. Puffing for a moment, he quickly straightened himself out and regained his composure as the shimmery-skinned metallic spread his wings as wide as they would go and showed himself off to all those watching. Yes, watch him, he seemed to shout, for that is what they were meant to do. It was clear, even from the Stands that the silver was haughty, vain and carried all the bearing and self-import of a Gold. ... and he moved not an inch after his display of wings.

Hekate's eyebrows shot up at the silver that rolled from the egg. Now that was a dragon! Such a beautifully colored one too and with such a sense of style. The little crimson had been a beauty, but there was something about the sheen of metal that always caught the drudges eye.
Perhaps it was her natural inclination to wish to re-purpose shiny items. One might never know, but for now the sands had her full attention rather then the holders purse whom stood a few feet away from her and was too busy watching to notice a thief amongst the crowd.
Not that Hekate was that thief. Really she could behave. . . sometimes.

Ailin wasn't surprised when she Impressed to another of the girls. The last egg remained, the one he'd touched first and gotten such a shock from. The silver he had to admit was very handsome and obviously full of his own self importance. He wanted to be seen and he certainly got what he wanted. Ailin didn't understand the need to be center of attention himself. Still, the silvers theatrics made a nice ending to the Hatching, so long as he Impressed.
..............................................
Dizzian whooped, clapping her hands in glee and upsetting Courath. "Haha! TOLD you! I TOTALLY called that!" She hadn't expected it but she was right on the money about Aislin. "Man I should have put marks on that!"
Courath grumbled tolerantly and waited for Dizzian's pealing laughter to settle down before placing her head once again in her bonded's lap and drifting back into slumber.
