Andarien was about to inform Tink that where they were going when the week was up, there was no such thing as clockwork, and it wasn't even in the same world, but before he could speak Lin distracted him yet again.

She was quite talented at that.

"Pet Lane?" he asked, perking up. "What's that?"

If even Tink was amused, it had to be good. He couldn't help but trust someone who surrounded herself with gears like she did.

"It's a whole shopping district full of pet shops," Tink explained, "And I don't just mean of the bird, cat, dog variety neither. We're talking about flying cats, wolves, colourful ponies, talking plants.... robots..."

"Well... to call it Pet Lane is probably a bit of a misnomer," Lin admitted, "Not all the animals... creatures... are there to be owned as a pet, and some aren't even simply sold... or sold... and it's so close to Dream Alley that sometimes it's hard to tell where it ends and where it begins."

Tink nodded as she leaned on the counter looking wistful, "Yea, I heard of that. It's the place where they say your true self can be found, at least if you're into the magical and obscure. Anyhow, planning to get a pet?"

"Of sorts, more like a guardian creature," Lin admitted, "Granted it's been a while since anyone in my family has brought one."

Tink grinned and leaned over the counter, "Want my suggestion? Try PM Breeder, has a whole strew of pets they call Pocket Monsters, they're apparently bred and trained to fight, and use some sort of technology to keep them into these holding capsules that keep them in I guess a hammerspace like environment so if you're going anywhere, where you can't care for them or need to hide them, in they go and boop! No fuss, no trouble."

Andarien was completely lost. "Huh?"

He had no idea what any of that meant, not in the least. Of course, to him, Senka wasn't a pet - she was more like the sister he didn't particularly like because of the way that she treated him. And in Arda, he didn't know anyone who kept a pet. So to him, the idea was pretty much foreign.

Lin chuckled, "You'll see..."

Looking back at Tink she nodded.

"Thanks for the advice."

"Not a problem, do drop by the next time you're in town!"

With another thank you, Lin placed a hand on Andarien's back and ushered him towards the door.

"We're done here," she called over to Earendil and Miyuki, "Would you like to try one more shop or something to eat?"

"Miyuki?" Earendil asked, looking down at her as they headed to the door. "Are you hungry?"

Something about the day felt different to him, but he couldn't place his finger on what. At any rate, he himself was not hungry yet. But he would have something if the others were hungry.

Miyuki paused and then shook her head, "No, I don't think I've gotten use to being back yet."

She might not completely remember what it was like, but she knew that the time was different. On her last trip back to Gaia, she ended up having a midnight snack just so she could sleep the first night back.

Earendil wasn't quite sure what to make of that remark, and after a moment he attributed it to the interruption to their sleep pattern when they'd come from one world to the other, from morning to evening.

"Looks like one more shop," he smiled at Lin. "Lead the way."

"This way then, we'll have to go one street over," Lin explained to her family.

"Where are we going?" Miyuki asked, while she had been to market before, she had never been one street over.

Only because there had never been a need to in the past.

"We're going to Pet Lane, for pets... of course, and I received a neat tip from the shop owner on which shop."

Lin was familiar with the shops, she had passed by that one in particular because at the time she hadn't been interested in anything larger than Senka or her foxes.

"Indeed?" Earendil was curious. "And are you going to tell us which shop? Or are you going to make us wait until we arrive?"

"Yeah, Nana, are you going to tell us where we're going and what we're going to get there?" Andarien asked, calming down now that they were out of the Steampunk shop and there was no longer anything to be excited about.

"It's simply called the PM Breeder, Tink said the pets there are trained and bred for fighting purposes. So if there's any place to go look for a pet that would be a good place to look first."

Otherwise Lin might be at a slight lost. Since it really had been a long time since anyone had brought a pet at home, and therefore some of the shops might have closed down since then.

Pet Lane was name thus because all the shops there sold pets, not that one could tell as it looked like a lot of shops sold other things. Like feathers, keys, locks and other random knickknacks, and it was closely interwoven with Dream Alley where some very unusual items were sold or even at times given away.

Earendil was impressed. "Something for when we're traveling, since Miyuki and Andarien can't yet defend themselves. Wonderful."

If the attack outside the human city was any indication, they would need all the help they could get if something were to happen again. They couldn't rely on others to help them, not always.
PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2012 7:54 pm

"So you mean this pet will be... kind of like Wish?" Miyuki asked.

Though the role of Wish had only been hearsay since her grandmother no longer traveled like she use to.

"Of sorts, though I admit I don't know what these will be like," Lin admitted.

It didn't help that the building was a grey non descriptive one. If it weren't for the large sign that scrawled across the whole length of it, they might have missed it. There were no display windows, only a door that led in. It made Lin pause because she hadn't seen a shop so unassuming before. Still, she opened the door anyways.

The inside was massive, with what looked to be large stages that had different environments like grass, rock, water and ice. The wall nearest to the door was lined with small discs, balls of various colour and design and other miscellaneous items. The walls on both the left and the right were lined with eggs with a small tag underneath that stated the species, an element type (or two) and if the egg was available. The last point of information would have sounded odd if it weren't for the fact the eggs had "Stand in Sample" stamped across them.

The back wall had more eggs, and plain red and white balls, but unlike the rest of the shop, the back was cut off by a long glass counter that held several types of pretty stones. Behind that counter stood a young woman with long pink hair done in a simple braid. She was giggling at a cute little pink egg shaped creature that was apparently trying to get her attention by dancing.

Earendil and Andarien couldn't help but stare at the strange pink creature that was dancing on the counter. It was unlike anything they had ever seen before. Of course, to Andarien that was no surprise; but Earendil, being now nearly ninety years old (how would that change when they returned to Arda?), had many more years of experience than his son, and therefore had less to be surprised about in general.

"What a strange creature," he couldn't help but murmur softly to Lin, hoping that he wouldn't be overheard by the owner of the shop.

Fortunately for Earendil, she didn't hear, but she did look up from her companion to see the newcomers.

"Welcome to the PM Breeder! How can I help you today? I haven't seen you before, so I'm guessing you're first time owners?"

Which implied that maybe some people owned more than one, or judging by the items near the door, they came back for supplies.

"Well we don't own any of these things yet," Andarien pointed out logically, "so we're not owners at all! Just first time visitors."

Earendil put one hand on Andarien's head to prevent him from saying anything unintentionally rude and smiled at the woman.

"Thank you, yes we are. We're looking for some guardians for our children," he explained. "Could you please tell us about what you have here? We know absolutely nothing about it at all."
