"Yes well you see, in this game they are not bonded yet, so we can still decide to change his destiny and find a completely different partner for him!" Ya, ok, Alex may have been getting into this a little bit more then he first intended to.
"Ok, ok, we'll be nice..." He grumbled, selecting option 2.
More dialogue scrolled it's way across the screen. "Ok, so Sally is fine and is very sorry for accidentally running in to Jack. She's now asking if Jack is new to the school and if he would like her help to find his classrooms."
Alex turned towards Yin, waiting for his choice in the matter, though having a feeling it was going to be, 'yes please.'.

Changing who they were bonded to? That sounded ridiculous to Yin and he mentally waved it off.
Hm, a ghoul offering her assistance? "Is there any option for only if she is not busy?" he questioned, not really bothering to read the screen. "It would be nice if she were able to, but if Jack were to cause her to be late that would be most unfortunate." A troubled look creased his face, these games were more difficult than he had realized.

Alex glanced over the options briefly, but didn't see any that were to Yin's exact wording, so he went with 'Oh thank-you, that would be most kind.'.
The screen faded back to Jack and Sally beginning there walk from the entrance of the school towards Jack's classroom. Along the way another female student stepped away from her locker to join them.
"Oh look, Yin, it's Walda, the fabulous undersea creature, and she wants Sally to introduce her to her new 'friend'. How would you like to greet this new ghoul? With a friendly hello, or with an amount of indifference because you are more eager to get to your class then to stop and chat?"

"Well," the mantodae was obviously putting quite a bit of thought behind his answers, "if she has expressed a desire to be introduced it is only natural. And one cannot afford to be rude simply because there is something else to do. It should take the same amount of time to say hello in a nice manner as it would be without manners."
Really, Yin did not see why Alexander would not like this game. It was easy. All you had to do was think things out a little bit.

Before Alex did what Yin requested he pointed to the top left corner of the screen, where there was currently a picture of Sally's face, with a number of red then black hearts beneath. They were currently at 2 red hearts. Next to Sally was a picture of Walda's face, with no red hearts beneath. "See there, Yin? The red hearts tell you how much the ghoul likes you in this game. Now, I'm going to be really friendly with Walda." He selected option one.
Promptly, a red heart appeared beneath Walda's picture, but one disappeared from Sally's.
"Ooops, looks like you upset Sally. I wonder how that happened?" He frowned in mock puzzlement, and waited for Yin's response to this.

Yin listened intently, watching the hearts. Two was okay, two meant you had a heart and one to spare. But then one vanished and went to Wanda.
"But why would she like you less?" he tried to puzzle out. "I mean, Jack was simply being nice to the other ghoul. That should show Mistress Sally that he has good dispositions." It really made no sense. "Surely Mistress Sally did not want Jack to mistreat the other ghoul," he said, more than a little disturbed by the idea. Alexander you must do something. Sally should have at least one more heart than Miss Walda does. Is there anything you can steal a heart from?"

Alex was struggling at this point not to just burst out laughing. "It's just a really silly game, Yin. It doesn't necessarily make any sense. Though ghouls are strange and fickle, so maybe it does..." He pondered that over even while Yin was continuing on about stealing hearts.
"Well..I..uh...Let's just move on! Maybe an oppurtunity will arise that Jack can uh..steal a heart for Sally."
The whole idea of that was mind boggling yet highly amusing all at the same time.
Jack and Sally were moving on towards the classroom now, and were stopped outside the door. More dialogue was running across the screen. "Ok, here we go. It's time to thank Sally and say goodbye. Should we ask her if we can see her again sometime or thank her and leave or just say goodbye?"

Alexander rather looked as if he was having fun with the game, so obviously his choice had not been as horrendous as he had feared. Yin might have even relaxed if he was not so intent upon the game, leaning forward and staring at it.
"Well this is simple Alexander, I do not even know why you would not just pick this one out yourself, it is the only viable option. Mistress Sally walked Jack all the way to his classroom and kept him from getting lost, so of course you must thank her."
But though Alexander was handling the controller Yin was making all of the decisions. "Perhaps you would like to make the next decision?" he offered.

"Yes but don't you think he should maybe also ask her when he will be able to see her again?" Alex hinted strongly, and then sighed. "Ok, we'll just say thank you and walk away then." He chose that option, and while they didn't lose a heart for Sally, they didn't gain one either.
The character on the screen moved inside the classroom. There was a choice of places to sit, one of which was next to Walda, who had somehow gotten passed them and was now in the classroom. The other two empty seats were next to other ghouls that Jack hadn't met yet. Dialogue appeared on the screen asking where Jack would choose to sit. Alex, mindful of Yin's request, chose to sit next to Walda, knowing full well what would happen.
And yes, Walda got another heart beneath her picture, making her one up on Sally.
"Hm, will you look at that? I guess maybe Jack and Walda should be a couple..." he joked.

Yin's eyebrows furrowed, visibly upset. "That cannot be," he insisted. His eyes then darted up to the hearts. "Walda only has two hearts, and two hearts does not make a couple Alexander. With the rating scale being..." he tried to count the hearts but gave up after four, he could have went higher but math was not his strongest point. Paying for things the few times he had had money was only completely by handing over a number definitely larger than what the cost was and trusting that he would get the right change back.
"If the rating scale is that many hearts you would certainly have far more than two hearts, and that does not make us a couple. So just because she has two hearts does not mean that Jack should pursue her. No, he should try to patch things up with Miss Sally. Can you try to find her after class?"

Alex looked over at Yin incredulously. What...was he saying exactly? That he actually liked Alex but they didn't have enough hearts to be a couple? This was...highly perturbing. And now the way Yin was looking, like a little lost minipet that had no idea what was happening or where it's owner had gone...
With a sigh, Alex scooted closer to Yin, and slung an arm around his shoulders, "Ok, ok, I'll fix everything." He grinned. "Though you know, if we had chosen to tell Sally that we would see her later, she might have been easier to find...later." Alex grinned, hitting a button on the remote with his thumb to allow the story line to continue.
The class was over, and Jack was on his way back out to the hallway. Alex, with his arm still around Yin, brought his knees up and rested the controller on top of them while he controlled Jack's walking movements around on the screen in his search for Sally. Eventually he stumbled across the ghoul standing in line in the cafeteria. He had the Jack Sim go over and buy her lunch, and a shiny new red heart appeared under her image.
"Better?" he asked the weremantis.

The arm around his shoulders was unexpected, though not entirely unwelcome. He simply did not know what Alexander would put his arm around him. Except well, Alexander seemed to have a thing for shoulders. Putting his hands on them. Squeezing them. Leaning against them.
And that was probably what he was doing now, as they were on the floor and Alexander had nothing to rest on. It would probably do him some good to have to sit up on his own, and encourage good posture, but today the mantodae decided not to say anything. He was not going to give Alexander a lesson about his posture after all that he had done so far. So he simply focused on what the zomboil was saying, which was that he was going to fix everything. The rest was not important.
Alexander played through the game, and eventually got Sally another heart. Elated the weremantis patted Alexander's leg in approval and relief, turning his head to look up at him. "Much better! You are quite good at this Alexander...now get her another heart? So she can be the most important. She should definitely be ranked higher than the other ghouls."

Alex wasn't entirely sure why he had even put his arm around Yin to begin with. Normally he would have been too self conscious or worried that the gesture might be refused. But after everything that had happened, he still felt the slightest bit of unease, like Yin was going to get up and run out the door at any minute. Holding him like this was comforting, and the fact that Yin didn't pull away or protest only added to his current happiness.
"Another heart?" He echoed glancing down at Yin. There faces were only inches apart and his chest was suddenly clenched up tight. Alex had a moment much like one he had felt before where he felt like he should just lean down and--
--But no, he just couldn't do that, especially feeling like Yin just did not feel the same way. So he quickly shifted his gaze back to the skellyvision screen in an attempt to shake off the temptation. He had Jack follow Sally to her table for lunch, sitting across from her, as yet more dialogue came up on the screen.
"You choose this time, Yin. Which option do you think would give Sally another heart?" That's right, just don't look at the other boil and everything will turn out fine.

Yin looked back at the screen and began talking his way through the options. "Asking how her food is would be polite, and the most likely option. It is obviously not wave at Walda, though that is also something Jack should do to be polite." See, the boil was learning after all. "He could ask to see her after school, but that would feel like rushing the conversation, though it would allow him to find her easily and perhaps gain a heart at that point. Or he could threaten the gnome that is eyeing her, but since the gnome has not done anything at this point he may just seem inconsiderate and rude."
He felt like surely this was a trick question, and kept glancing over at Alexander who seemed fixated on the screen, not giving him any clues. "I suppose...well this game is a rather forward game after all, so perhaps he should ask to meet with her after school." It was definitely not what the weremantis would do in that situation, but he was trying to prove that he could do well at the game too.

Alex smiled, finally yet perhaps a tad hesitantly slipping his arm out from around Yin's shoulders so that he could use two hands on the controller again. While this wasn't the action packed game he had had in mind for the evening, and it didn't really require much work, using one hand was just excruciatingly slow at some points.
Selecting the third option, to ask Sally to see her after school, was apparently the right course of action to take in winning Sally's heart. Literally. Another heart appeared underneath her image. "See how easy it is once you understand how the game works?" He encouraged the weremantis, giving him a return pat on the leg just to show what a good job he did..not because he asctually needed the physical contact or anything. If his hand lingered on Yin's leg perhaps a bit longer then necessary, that was completely by chance.
"Do you want to try and play it on your own, now?" Alex asked, holding the controller out towards the other boil.
