I'm guessing it's a mane/hair tuft that goes along the back. :B
Heheheh, that grin does seem pretty fit for ossum fangs. XD -is thinking of traits that would establish a fun line- I was thinking maybe a line with saber fangs, ridgeback mane and lynx ears would be cool xD

@Davy: Its common to see them on maned wolves-- think of it like how a horse has that mane that runs down the neck towards the back. Here's a picture of a maned wolf to give you an idea- Maned Wolf Sometimes it can trail from the neck all the way down the path of the spine and end at the base of the tail.

@Moon: You're exactly right. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is also a prime example-- since that's where its commonly assorted with it being a common trait in the dog breed.
