Aerith and Sephiroth could never work within the game's present time, because assuming you think it's Sephiroth walking around (and it isn't, his body's at the North Crater), or his astral projection... Well, he's completely insane. He's been manipulated by Jenova, and is completely barking mad, only wanting to kill everything so he can become a god with his mother. He also kills her.

(Rather, if you believe what I do, Jenova does. With Sephiroth's will/projection, as well as her own, but, never mind).

However, it's REALLY interesting to look at what might have been. Sephiroth was created in Professor Gast's Jenova Project, the son of Lucrecia and Hojo. Aerith was the daughter of Professor Gast and Ifalna, the Ancient. In slightly different circumstances, they may have grown up together. Aerith's almost like, a Sephiroth gone right/lucky -- she got the real Ancient blood, she managed to escape ShinRa and be raised by a nice normal adoptive mother, rather than be approached by a disembodied alien voice.

Heck, as Aerith spent the first seven years of her life in the ShinRa labs, and the age different is eight years, he may have been around, if they never actually interacted.

Before he went insane, he was cool and removed, and cynical. But he wasn't an evil man. He was pretty asexual though. smile

The intriguing thing about Aerith / Sephiroth, I guess, the could have, might have. And the fact unless you're wearing a blue suit, she doesn't hold grudges -- at least, while she wouldn't forgive Sephiroth right away for killing her, given that it's the same Jenova madness as made Cloud beat her up (and she forgave that), and her tendency to be looking into people and seeing what's amiss... She might beat him over the head with her rod first, but ironically, she'd be one of the people more likely to forgive a "sane" Sephiroth.
