The hug caught Lenore instantly off-guard, and she felt her blush flame hotter. She smiled and ignored it, returning the hug with enthusiasm and even (she was amazed by her own daring) kissing him on the cheek.
"I really missed you, Os," she said. "I wear th' necklace you gave me every day."

Now that surprised him.
Osso felt his face face grow hot from the kiss. He tried to ignore his heart, as it banged against his chest, by giving a sheepish smile.
"I'm glad you like it," he began." I missed you as well. It's been almost ages since we've talked. How've you-oooh," he had just noticed the red streaks in her hair. There had been a tingling in the back of his mind about her appearance, but, like most guys, he had failed to put his finger on it till just now.

"I love it," Len said earnestly. "I never take it off."
Seeing as she did that with all her jewelry anyway, maybe the heartfelt sentiment was a little dulled on this count. Letting Osso go but still lingering close, one hand clasping his, she tilted her head to one side in confusion as he cut his own words off.
"Oooh?" she parroted, perplexed. She looked around, wondering what caught his attention. Something shiny? Something bloody? Some combination of the two?

Sadly, it was neither.
"Hm?" He questioned for a second, tilting his head in the same manner as she did. Blinking stupidly for a second, he caught on.
"Oh! You're hair. You dyed it?" He lightly touched one of the red streaks in her hair with his free hand as he spoke.

Lenore blinked, then blushed again, looking pleased.
"Yeah, Mum did it for me," she said. She ran a hand over it and tousled it, making it look even more spiky. "Do....do you like it?"
It did look very different. The deep red stood out vividly against her mostly monochromatic coloring, and the once eternally-wild style had been (somewhat) tamed.

Feeling her self-esteem rocket upwards a notch or twenty, Lenore beamed at Osso and let loose a quite out-of-character giggle.
"Thank you," she managed. Unsure what else to say, she picked up a rock and flicked it out across the water. It sank, quite literally, like a stone, not even skipping once.

Her giggle caused him to chuckle as hollow gaze watched her chuck the rock into the dark waters.
"You need..." he began and moved a little closer to the water, head bent down as he looked for something, "...a flat rock." Osso return to her side with the said object in hand. it was medium sized, slate gray, and about as thin as half the width of a CD case.
Holding it a certain way, he brought his arm back by the elbow, entended his hand behind him, and then brought it back as level as possible. the stone flew some distance before skipping off the waters surface a few times and then plunking into the depths.

Len watched intently, then scrounged around for a flat rock. She found one decently flat enough and copied Osso's motion as best as she could remember. The rock sailed over the water and landed with a particularly sharp splash, sending ripples in ever-widening circles to the shore.
"Oh. Huh," she said, looking slightly put out. Looking for a couple more, she tried again and again unsuccessfully.

Osso watched with arms crossed over his chest, swaying forward and back slightly out of a small habit. At the failed attempts, he only gave a small sighish laugh.
"Here," he began and picked up another flat rock for her and then one for himself. He explained the way to hold it with your forefinger and thumb, the other fingers resting and supporting it from below.
"Then move your arm back like this..." he gently brought her's back by the elbow. When he thought she had it right, he stepped back slightly. "Now sort of throw it forward and use your wrist, like this," he threw his own rock, which sailed and skipped like the others had.

Careful to hold her arm exactly as Osso had positioned it, Len gripped the rock and stared with utmost concentration out into the lake. Seeing as it was only rock skipping, maybe she shouldn't have been taking it so seriously. But for Lenore nothing was ever simply playing, and dammit she wanted to do this right.
"One...two...three!"
Throwing the rock, Lenore gave a delighted shout as the rock skidded twice over the water's surface before sinking below.
"I did it!" she said excitedly. "Didja see? I did it!"

For the hundreth time, in the short time he had been with Len, he laughed. "I did, great job!...But can you do it again?" The question was asked slyly as he leaned slightl closer, brow raised.

Probably not, Len thought.
"Of course!" she said.
Hefting another rock, she fidgeted with posture for a second and then flung it out across the water. Instead of skipping over the surface or sinking, it struck a meandering duck rather forcefully in the side. Lenore gave a yelp as the duck quacked in terror at the attack, going airborne in terror.
"...Oops."

Osso clapped a hand over his mouth as the duck was hit, hollow sockets wide. His face became a little screwed up shortly though as his cheeks puffed out. When he couldn't contain it any longer, he let out a raspberry before a hoot of laughter fell from him. The boy doubled over in hysterics of laughter.

Looking utterly horrified, Len scooted away from the lake's edge and stuck her hands in her jacket pockets.
"Yup, I'm done," she said. She watched Osso laugh at first in annoyance, but then slowly smiled. It was funny...
"Oh, like you've never accidentally struck waterfowl before," she said, laughing slightly.
