"Oh, aren't you a pretty one." Valdi watched the bright Green hatch, a smile spreading across his face. She just looked so happy, and Valdi was glad that there was some perky dragonets in this seemingly cursed Clutch. A Brown, Bronze, and Blue all hatched and Impressed, he noted--but that little Green was certainly eye-catching, to say the least. Who would she choose? Valdi honestly hoped that she wouldn't go between like some of her clutchmates; that would just be horrible, and he would probably leave after that.

The green stayed where she was, scanning the area with all the curiosity of a child. Her attention was captured by the cracking Pink Stripe Egg and did not venture far from it until the shell gave way. A second green appeared on the grounds, snorting.

The brighter of the two released a gleeful squeal (or something akin to it) and followed her clutchmate into the crowd of boys. They passed by Vessali and both looked up at him, but neither stopped.

Where were they going?

And another Green, healthy and strong as the other! Perhaps things were looking up. Valdi was a ways away from the boy they both looked up at, but he leaned forward out of the crowd to catch a glimpse of the two dragonets. The question that was undoubtedly on the minds of many was also on his--just where were they going? He was painfully curious. Sure, there were a lot of people here, but only so many Candidates--though it wasn't unheard of for people in the Stands to Impress, Valdi wasn't going to bet a lot of marks that that would happen. But things could change, and he wasn't sure, as always.

They were a pretty pair and despite the fact that they were heading on past him, he found himself amused. At least he hadn't been tromped on this time.

And there, for a minute, he wondered just what it was that had stepped on his foot in the first place. Had it been that poor little green flit pausing for a moment? Surely if the snake had touched him, it'd have taken off his leg. Or worse.

No, no, concentrate on the hatching, Vessali. He shook his head a little, then watched the green sisters move on by.

Another green!... But both of them looked like they were heading for the male candidates. Still, they could turn around and come back yet. Crossing her fingers (for both of the dragonets, and for herself), Ash awaited the next Impressions.

After a quick sweep on the boys, the newest hatchling went and took her place by her chosen boy.

I am here, Valdi. I want to eat.

The other green suddenly looked embarrassed and turned back around, heading the way she had came from.

Yours is sorry, Vessali. I should have came to you first, but I knew you would wait for me.

I am here, Valdi. I want to eat.

Whoa. That was...weird, what was that supposed to mean? Surely that wasn't--
Mine, if you don't hurry up, your Kinth won't get any of the meat. And that would be bad! She looked at him, expectant. "Uh, w-well, Kinth--let's get going, then?"

Kinth halfway pushed Valdi--or more appropriately, V'di--along towards the feeding table, eyeing Lioth for a moment before giving V'di another shove to get his stunned self in gear. The newly-Impressed weyrling managed to not fall all over himself, though he was not too proud to admit that he stumbled, and retrieve some meat for his dragon rather uneventfully, though some of the blood did get on his snatch of fabric (not that he really minded, it dulled that horrible orange down some). When he held out a good-sized piece to Kinth, she looked at it for a moment before glancing at him. Throw it. Come on, Mine, doing it that way is just boring. I promise I'll catch it!
"If you say so?" V'di couldn't help but grin when he tossed the meat and it went right into Kinth's waiting jaws. Told you! We can do the rest of it that way, can't we? "Unless we get in trouble." He nodded, fishing out another good piece. Kinth merely wrinkled her nose and waited for the next thrown piece of meat, which met the exact same fate as the first.

Kalania watched in a mixture of awe and glee as the eggs moved and hatched, every now and then glancing at Iafri with a huge smile. But when the blue stuck his legs out of his shell and barrelled into the girls in front of them, she laughed and was glad that they hadn't gone any farther forward.

Until she heard him.

Oh -- oh, alright, Kalania. Just go ahead and leave me here then. Don't worry a thing about it. Your Tochinath is just fine right. over. here. By myself. About to get stepped on. Don't worry -- really!

Your Tochinath...

Mouth dropping open in shock, she pushed past the remaining girls and fell to the sands beside her gorgeous blue, feeling his hunger and his embarressment. She giggled at the sight he made, and scratched his belly before helping him to his feet.

"I wouldn't let you get stepped on, my sweet. I'd knock 'em down first."

The Speckled Purple Egg shook, rattled and rolled. When it broke down into pieces, a new lovely green lifted her head. She looked to the girls.

Dragons didn't usually turn around, did they? Weren't they supposed to know who they wanted pretty much from the moment they cracked their shells? So the green pair had passed him by and Vessali had moved on, much like they did. Or so he thought. The dark-footed green chose another candidate, but then the brighter of the two...

Came right back to him. And. Apologized?

Yours is sorry, Vessali. I should have came to you first, but I knew you would wait for me.

"You don't." Vessali blinked and looked around the hatching ground, as if there might be some mistake, before looking down at Plareth again. "You don't have to apologize," he promised her. "I did wait. I mean, I-I would have, longer, if you'd--" Well, what was the point in any of that, now?

"We should get you come food. Come on, Plareth. Come on."

He led Plareth away from the rest of the candidates and to the feeding table, more than a little stunned.

Anther lovely, healthy green. If not for the blood on the ground, and the corpse of the tunnelsnake this could be a totally different hatching for how far the mood seemed to have lifted. Later there might be trauma, fear, scars, but for now all of those who still stood saw another bright little piece of hope... And this one seemed to be looking over at her area of the hatching grounds. Maybe this one was hers? It was worth hoping, certainly.

Mairin, hmm should she change it to M'rin or M'ai later, was taking advantage of all the successful hatchings and impressions to stuff meat into Curith. Given the green's tendency to start to shut down when she got emotional it was best to take advantage of her willingness to eat right now. From candidate lessons the girl remembered all hatchlings were initially very sensitive so she had no idea if this sort of thing was going to last.

It's important to care Mine.

When no one stepped up to get her, the green went on ahead and sought out the girl on her own.
