I'd like to bring up the possibility of misleading pronouns. Maybe she knew it [the killer] was coming, but it [death] still took her by surprise. The clues say she couldn't scream, blink, or breathe, but didn't say that was due to her not having time to.
If, say, the killer came and attempted to strangle her but didn't finish the job and then finally bludgeoned her to death, that would still be consistent with the current clues. Among other scenarios. Too much can have multiple interpretations to rule much out, I think.
