Then, I believe a meek Duros scientist would be good. Not at all proficient in fighting, so he'd balance out the ship.

Hmm...
I'm thinking of being a dancer that decided she wanted something a bit more worthwhile so she entered into the science field, and got into it from there.
That way I have an excuse for dancing on the table when things go slow, and being what amounts to a rookie scientist creates a sorta bridge between a more veteran one and the rest of the crew.
I'm not 100% on that though, but it's an idea for now I guess.

Actually sounds like a good idea; pole dancer/former slave turns into a genius scientist

And, in some cases easily solves a problem that the genious senior scientist struggles and fails to solve. Classic.

Actually, I could tweak the idea a bit.
A Zeltron slave, either recently freed or still owned, by one of the crew no less. ( Doubtful, but would create an interesting twist I guess. )
Either case, also a kinda prodigal genius, just lacks the experience. She'd be a rookie in terms of actual experience, but would still be smart enough to understand a lot more. Also, because she's all that experienced, she'd lack a stuck-up professional attitude, and instead be more laid-back and easy going.
Being a Zeltron gives her that whole pleasure aura, which would make her a passive morale officer of sorts. Being a slave too means she's familiar with some of the pleasure-oriented things, so during slow times, she might take a mop and temporarily stick it to the floor for a makeshift pole, etc.
The idea is still the same. Brainy sex appeal, just that this creates a few more options so she can still dabble in a little of everything.

I'd be halfway tempted to ask Cale if I can borrow his concept of a droid owning a zeltron slave...

Nothing like a busty Zeltron scientist resorting to bouncing around just to demonstrate an example of how physics works.
