Gabriel turned back and looked down at Jane, he was injured badly. Suddenly, more shots from the end of the hall. Hey had recovered from his attack faster than he thought they would. No time to plan or be subtle. Throwing more knives in the process, he darted to Jane and, grabbing him by the shirt, pulled him back around the corner.

Looking around the corner over his left side, he looked back down at Jane. He was bleeding everywhere, his blood already coating his hands in a deep red. He looked into Jane's eyes; they were beginning to fade, his eyelids beginning to close. "Hey!" he shouted, patting his face a few times to snap him back to the moment. "Stay with me! Hang in there, you have to stay awake!!" Pieces of the corner were already being torn away by the guns around the corner. As the reality of the situation began to sink in, his mind began to race. What am I gonna do?! How am I gonna get out of this?! He closed his eyes to force himself to focus. As he did so, pieces of the ceiling began to fall on top of him. WHen he looked up, the idea darted into him. He raised his hand around the corner and glared at the ceiling. As he clenched his fist, the ceiling began to crack and as he pulled his fist down, the entire ceiling began to crumble.

Once he saw the deed done, Gabriel turned back to Jane. "Don't worry, we're getting out of here! Can you walk?!" He grabbed Jane's left hand and wrapped it around his neck, trying to will him to stand. Once they had both gotten on their feet, he took slow, steady steps down the hall they had just came. Hopefully the ceiling would be a longer-lasting diversion.

The man snarled, impudent brat. The knives bounced harmlessly off of the shields of his men, narrowing his eyes as he signaled to his men, setting their shields up higher as they booked it for another set of stairs that led down into the base. A couple became trapped, jumping for it after three of his men. At this point, they may as well look for the Minoru girl. Their men would find other points of entry. Actually, they already had.

In one of the lower levels, more soldiers with the shields broke through into some of the labs, capturing the scientists and researchers. They killed others that were there.

~~~
Nico cursed under her breath, glancing up as Gladys reported another breach in the levels below this one. <********> She began to download as much data as she could into her holographic notepad, glancing into the larger room where people were already beginning to evacuate. Pulling out her switchblade, she conjured up her most recent painful memory, slicing the skin of her arm. "When blood is shed, the Staff of One shall emerge." She murmured, her staff shooting out of her chest. Gripping it, now was not the time to be hesitant. Glancing to her data pad, she heard screams as soldiers started to appear, followed by gunfire. Turning to the keyboard, she typed in a quick few keys, speaking a word to the console. With that, her screen went black, encrypting the data before she deleted it, setting the self-destruct code. She was not going to take any chances. "Do it Gladys!"
"Yes, Nico. Locking all consoles. Warning. Warning. Self-destruct sequence in effect. T-minus one minute, and counting."
Nico grabbed her datapad, breaking out the doorway. She stuffed the datapad in a pocket, taking a deep breath. "Rebels elsewhere!" She spoke, teleporting all of the "rebels" (meaning to Dreamers Industries) to another location that was further out in the countryside. As for her teammates, they should be gathered up too, leaving the enemy alone in this place. Before she left, she felt a blinding pain in her stomach and shoulder, the last to be swept away from this place she had called home.
As she felt herself get sucked in and spat out, she coughed a bit, glancing around the new walls of their second facility. It wasn't as large or grand as the one they just came from, but they were in a very large room. One of the hangers she suspected. Sinking to her knees, she straightened her back in the slightest, panting a bit as she grimaced to the pain. She was bleeding from two bullet wounds, one in her stomach. Forcing herself up, she saw many a confused face at the soldiers, doctors, researchers, writers, programmers, cooks.... everyone that had been at that base that had been her friend. It made her smile. Thank god. Her staff clattered to the floor, reabsorbing it with a wince. Forcing herself up, some of the doctors from their medical wing rushed to her and all the other injured. Gabriel and Jane would be greeted by them shortly wherever they were. They would all be taken to the medical wing in this facility where they could be treated as opposed to where they were now.
A great distance away, there was a thunderous explosion, about the equivalent to seven city blocks collapsing deep into the ground. Debris shot up into the air, taking with it those who were unfortunate to still be there.
Jane woke with a jolt as he was transported, landing in an unfamiliar room. The pain was heavy from the bullet holes though he still took a chance to say something. "Great. Another place to forget my way around." He was barely awake now, looking about him. Seeing all the doctors rushing about, he noticed some of them wince as he attempted to get up. Great, he was going to have to monitor how much of his pain he released. He concentrated on making sure that none of the others felt his pain, but that took most of his conscious effort. C'mon, they needed to get him. A few of the medical staff moved him quickly, taking him to the medical wing. No, he could not stand- he wasn't even going to try.
Just bloody wonderful.
Gabriel looked around startled. In the blink of an eye, the environment had changed. Men in white coats clamored about, shuffling around the room. As he looked to his right, he saw Jane's bloody frame as he was carried slowly out of the room.
The setting had changed so quickly. Gabriel huffed and puffed, his body jittery, his reflexes jacked full of adrenaline. A million questions ran through his mind. Where were they? How did they get there? Was Nico alright? Did she make it out too? Was she captured? How did the enemy find them?? Relax, he told himself, commanding his lungs to take slow, deep breaths. In. Out. In. Out. As he did so, he moved to the wall opposite the doors, leaned against it and slid to the ground.
As he sat, Gabriel recounted all that had happened in his mind. He had never used his powers with such force and precision before. His reaction had seemed appropriate at the time; his master had always told him to be resourceful, the make creative use of his environment. Bringing down a single hallway on a group of enemies was, in hindsight, a tad reckless but pretty creative. But the power required had taken more out of him than he thought it would; he was completely and utterly exhausted.
His heartbeat slowed as he stared off into space, only to find his eyelids too heavy to keep open. He wanted to stay awake, to help with recovery, to make sure Nico was alright, but his body was against it. He looked up at the ceiling before his eyes completely shut. Another white wall. Then, darkness.
Personally Nico would have preferred to not have to deal with any doctors, but considering she had been shot, she didn't have much choice. When she overheard them telling each other that they'd have to operate, she wanted to protest despite how unintelligent it was. She sat herself up a bit despite how painful it was to do so, remaining for the most part still otherwise since they were wheeling her through the hall ways. "Hold on a sec, I gotta re-upload all our data and work on the firewalls! I can't be-"
"Shut it Ms. Minoru. You can do all that afterwards. For the moment, we gotta make sure that you'll live long enough to be able to do that." The one doctor pushed her head down with a sigh, clearly used to how resistant she was.
Gritting her teeth, she almost started to speak before they put the mask over her mouth, having her breathe deeply. Soon she was drifting off into never never land while the docs tended to her wounds. It was sort of nice to just.... rest for once. No images, no memories, just nothing.....
Rubbing his head as he stood, he grumbled a bit under his breath. They remember to program the device to teleport your stuff, but they forget to program for it to teleport you. Figures. Where the hell did they go? Looking around, he was in the middle of a wasteland now that the base blew up.
Patting off his pants, rubble was still falling from the sky. Looking up and avoiding any heavy looking chunks, he began to walk. He picked a random direction, his left, just because he had no idea where he was. He didn't know if there was anything near him in any direction, so he chose his left at random. They never give the energy bender credit. Had I been given a chance to fight, I'd have drained every enemy in the place, and there would have been no need to blow it up. Whoever made that rash decision is a dumbass.
Continuing to walk, he began to hope for something to turn up. Anything that would get him out of there quicker, at least to someplace civilized.
Hours had passed, and there was still nothing. He had begun to drag his feet, exhaustion setting in. His feet were getting heavy, as were his arms and his head. The sun was beating down on him with no breaks; the sky cloudless, the earth shadeless. How many miles had he walked? He didn't know. How long had it been? He wasn't sure. He was sure, though, that the only life near him was underground, burrowing around. At least it's cooler down there.
His stomach growled, the amount of pains he was feeling growing in number by one more. I wonder if dirt is edible...no, don't try it. It can't be healthy, or good. The very gentle wind moved the tip of his coat, gently flowing in the wind. Not enough for a nice cool breeze though. He frowned, stopping.
He could sense life. Life other than that in the ground. It was getting nearer, and fast. He braced himself, his hands moving towards the handle of his right handgun. The sweat on his brow fell down his cheek, stopping midway. His eyes were in the direction of the life, he'd see it any moment.
The Jeep flew over a hill, pounding into the dirt as it hit. It kicked up a lot of dirt as it drove off road, barreling towards him. Relaxing slightly, he had a feeling he knew what was coming, for it had happened before.
And just like before, something shot out of the Jeep, pricking him in the arm, making him drowsy, and eventually he fell to his knees, and then his arms, and finally he just passed out, the world turning fuzzy and then black as his senses left him.
"Mama! Mama, where are you taking him? I thought he was fine!" Running footsteps came to a stop, a beautiful woman turning to face her. Sweet smile. Comforting. Soft. Warmth. Yet cold somehow. "There's something odd about his blood. We just want to make sure it's nothing. You remember he seemed to be coming down with a cold don't you dear?" She bends down a little to be level with the young girl in front of her. The girl lowered her head for a moment in thought, but nodded. "Yes mother. Will I get to visit him?" An innocent question, hopeful. The woman chuckles a little and smiles, petting her daughters head. "Maybe. I hope so. Now, mother has to go take care of something. Don't get into trouble now." A smile before walking off with folder in hand. Alone again.
Scene cuts to a hospital room. The young girl sits worriedly atop her chair, hands holding the young boys tightly. A machine beeps away next to him, an IV in his wrist. A dragon is curled up by his head, occasionally cooing. Words are whispered, soft conversation. Things are not well.
Scene cuts again to the girl standing in front of a gravestone with silent tears rolling down her cheeks. Her parents get called away for some reason. She is alone amidst those who are 'friends' of her family. They whisper comforts, but the girl does not hear them. She stands there for a long time until she is dragged home. She escapes and goes to sit at the grave in the night. She thinks she see's something from the corner of her eye....
Startling awake, Nico's body jumped, her eyes shooting open. "Kaoru." She whispered, almost sitting up before she winced. Ow. She found that her data pad was absent, now becoming alarmed as a welcomed distraction from the dream she had. Looking around, she had her bed sit up more, looking to a nurse who came by at the sign she was awake. "Where's my work? Who took it? Where is it?" She asked, not surprised to see the nurse so startled.
"Forgive me Ms. Minoru, Kevin from the technology section came by to reinstate everything into the computer systems." The man spoke apologetically, obviously trying to do his best to keep her calmer and in bed.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down, closing her eyes for a moment. "I see. It's alright, I... apologize for jumping on you like that. Whats the report on everyone?" She asked, having no idea where her other team members were at that point in time.
The man checked something on his data pad clip-board type thing, scanning through things quickly. "Jane is in intensive care right now, but he is recovering quite well. Gabriel is fine and assumed to be in his room or somewhere in the compound. Amaya is also absent, but we confirmed her arrival with everyone else." His brows furrowed as he looked down the list of people. "However, we are missing Roran. And we also have no confirmation of Ayame. We believe she is here, but we don't know where she is."
Nico immediately was more alert, sitting up more with a wince to know that they were missing one of the other power users. What had gone wrong? All had been programmed to be teleported. Had his powers interfered by accident somehow? What had happened? "Dammit! We have to find him. Immediately. We can't let them take him." She started to move to get out of bed, but was immediately stopped, grimacing a little. Though the wounds were practically healed, they still hurt like a b***h.
"I can't let you do that Ms. Minoru. You are injured as is most of your team. We cannot risk losing you. We have already sent out a team to search for him." The man said hastily, holding her by the shoulders carefully, but firmly.
Gritting her teeth, Nico was obviously uncomfortable with this idea. A team was not enough. Her gut told her so. Dreamer's had obviously stepped up their game, and there was no telling how many of their troops had those shields. "Don't call me by that last name." She snapped, her eyes glancing to one of the trays, seeing a syringe on it. So they were ready to sedate her if it came to it. Her insides twisted, feeling responsible for this failure. "At least give me a computer. I will not leave if you do this. I hope his tracer isn't off or removed." She murmured, settling back slightly into her bed. She had it sit up more, already just wishing she could at least do her work. She hated being stationary like this. Especially under these conditions.
Jane woke up again in the bed, his eyes fluttering open. He laughed for no apparent reason before he noticed that he didn't feel pain. Must have been some powerful medication. Another laugh. As he attempted to sit up, a nurse happened to notice him. She cooed at him to lay down. Was that a coo? No...it was more like a screech. He burst into hard laughter, and he found himself having trouble breathing. Not good. In. Out. In. Out. He breathed again, looking around the room. "WhatdidImiss?" The words came out in a jumble as he spoke.
The nurse was rushing over to him, but not fast enough. Jane sat all the way up; he was now attempting to stand up. Quickly the nurse laid him back down on the bed, giving him a sedative. With the amount of blood loss he'd had, well, he would need the rest.
"Daddy!" A child's voice. Hyper. Happy. "Daddy, can I learn it?" A man's face flashed. Light stubble. Square head. Sharp features. Orange eyes...orange eyes.
"Of course, Jane." A smile spread across the child's lips. A deep breath. The father's smile was his doing, although he didn't know. He didn't know. Just moments ago, that man had been crying.
"Yay!"
Naive. Foolish. Stupid. Unknowing. Happy. Energetic. Uninformed. Perfect.
Jane flashed awake. Another dream...another memory. He sat up, looked around. The nurse didn't bother to stop him this time. Actually, she moved to help him up. Slight pings of pain went through him occasionally, nothing major. He gazed down. No longer was there a shirt covering his skin, but bandages were placed in several places. They almost covered him fully. Many of them were tinted a brownish red.
He stood with her, his eyes gazing at the nurse. She walked him five steps away from the bed, then five steps back. Again, she forced him to lay down. Physical therapy. Were his wounds that bad? It appeared to be that way.
Did I- Did I just remember something?
Shooting into the upright position, a chill flew down his back, causing him to shiver. No, not a chill, the wind. It was whipping his face as the ground shook uncontrollably. "Gyah! Could you go any slower?" The Jeep was barreling across the rugged terrain, unforgiving and seeming very angry. It was then that he heard one of the drivers to buckle up. Apparently he had woken up too early. Moving to buckle, the moment it clicked the ground disappeared. "What the fu-!" The Jeep flew down an incredibly deep slope, and eventually right into a cave. Shutting his eyes, he never liked the feeling of rollercoasters, but this was filling him with it. The adrenaline eventually got too high for him, and he passed out.
Springing up into a sitting position once again, there was no wind. No Jeep either. Swinging his legs over the edge of the surface, parts of his pants clattered with the table. Metal table, huh? Home sweet home, I guess. Walking to the door of his room, he noticed it seemed more like a prison cell. Placing a hand on the cold metal handle, he slid the door open, light flooding his eyes. the hallways of the new base opening up to him. "God dammit, a new base to learn. s**t."
Nico heard laughter and glanced in it's direction, recognizing it as Jane's and it made her smile. It was good to know he had woken up. Though her eyes soon slid back to the laptop on her lap, her fingers flying across the keyboard. She reached a hand forward and slid a piece of information away. It was code, that particular firewall now done. Though, she glanced back to the tracers, pinpointing where everyone was. Breathing a sigh of relief, she saw that Roran had returned, but then thought of how he may react to her greeting. He would probably be angry about how the teleportation had failed for him.
She checked her wounds beneath her robe, catching a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eye. Had that been.... a dragon? "Kaoru?" She murmured a word to the computer and it shut down, glancing around to ensure there were no nurses about. She could sit up now with relative ease, grimacing as she remembered a joke her father had made about Minoru's. Always abnormally fast healers we are. He used to say. Swinging her legs out of bed, she knew this was the real test. Carefully she stood on her feet, gasping softly as one of the bullet wounds shot pain throughout her body. God damn, what had it hit?!
Another flicker of movement, this time accompanied by a coo she knew for sure. She felt her stomach drop out, it couldn't be. Kaoru had died along with her brother right? There was no way..... She saw there was a wheel-chair placed next to her bed, raising an eyebrow as she glanced around again. Seriously? It made her smirk a little, shaking her head as she grabbed the lap top and placed it on her lap as she sat down. It opened at a word from her, now testing to see if she could wheel herself around. Ultimately, she couldn't. God effing dammit. A nurse then came by which made her stiffen a little.
"Ah. Glad to see you awake and at it Sister Grimm. Rob's called for you down in the technology quarter and he insisted upon your arrival. Oh yes, we did successfully retrieve Roran as I'm sure you know. I hope that ride wasn't too harsh for him." The girl giggled and came up behind the chair, beginning to push it forward. "Your quarters are downstairs past the technology wing. You won't have to walk as far now will you hm" She asked with a giggle and a smile.
God this felt... odd. Rob had insisted that much? Geez, there must be gaps in the data or something. Then again, he always one to demand she spend most of her time there anyways. Still, this felt so weird. Probably because she was their "way inside" or whatever they insisted on. She hated it all the more, lowering her eyes briefly, pausing as she heard that cooing again. Looking around, she half-listened to the girl's cheerful updates on their situation and what was going on. Her cheerfulness was cute but almost annoying. No, scratch that. It was annoying for sure.
It didn't take them long till they got down to the computer rooms, heads poking out from the smaller rooms along the hall. Then they came to a bigger room with cubicles like before. Though, it wasn't as vast as their former base.
Rob came striding over, numerous data-pads in hand. "Ah! There you are my lovely. I know, your wounded and all that, but we need you more. I'm sure your anxious for work eh?" He spoke rapidly in his cockney accent. He left no room for her to answer. "I'm sure, I'm sure. I've already seen you updating the firewalls. I'm glad, we need it. Goddamn buggers really took a chunk out of our data." He started, taking over pushing her wheelchair without so much as a word to the nurse. Typically Robert behavior.
Nico sighed and nodded, focusing a bit more intently on what had Rob so concerned and well, demanding. At least, more demanding than usual. Great, she had to reprogram in a lot of stuff. Joy upon freakin joy. Nodding, she murmured a "got it" to him as he wheeled her into one of the rooms down the hall a bit further towards her quarters, now sighing since she was alone. Rubbing her eyes, she heard the screens converge into one again and Gladys' voice speak to her.
"Greetings Sister Grimm. I trust you are recovering well? Shall I open up some music for you? You do seem rather stressed."
Looking up to the screens, she smiled for the first time that day, relaxing in her chair. "That would be lovely Gladys, thank you. I think Brick by Boring Brick would do nicely. You know which playlist I'd like right now." She stretched out her fingers, cracking her neck before she began to type, sending some data from the computer on her lap up to the bigger one in front of her. She then placed it aside on another desk, sweeping her hand across so the keyboard became holographic and spread across the space so she had an easier time moving between them. And thus... she was forced back to work again. Once the Paramore song was done, it made her chuckle to hear a Santana cover come up. How very perfect. She sang softly along with it, though more like the original track than this cover. Yet it was clear her own style of singing came through clear and beautiful.
Jane took a deep breath once he was laid back down. "I'm not going to stay in bed. I want to at least try to learn my way around this new base!" He exclaimed, forcing himself up. The nurse rolled her eyes, heading off to grab a wheelchair. When she came back with it, Jane rolled his eyes, but he did get on. His eyes scoped around for his daggers and his rapier, wanting them close. "Where are they?" He asked as she began to wheel him out.
"In your actual dorm." She told him softly, and Jane found himself frowning. He was in this condition. Unarmed. Brilliant. Bloody brilliant.
"Can I at least see someone else?" He asked, and she pushed him towards the tech room. Of course...she'd assumed that he'd like to see Nico first. Well, it made sense since she WAS his favorite sparring partner...
Typical.
