So the senshi have been around since Nova was twelve: How long has the Negaverse been in action? How long ago did Destiny City's plague of comas, missing persons and mysterious deaths begin? Would the kids remember a time before it started? Parents? Grandparents? Is Charonite older than living memory?

Cuter: The Negaverse has more recently come back into play - Charonite and Hematite were the first to return after a 20 year absence and they returned roughly three years ago, Nealite being the first 'recruit', joining the Negaverse a little over two years ago. The missing persons, comas and deaths would have started around the time the Negaverse returned into action - parents might recall news stories of a similar situation happening in Tokyo 20 or so years prior (back in the 80's), when the 4 General-Kings and Beryl were active in that area.

Charonite's official age is unknown, but Gunn Killingworth's forged birth certificate says 35!

Spiffy! Thanks for answering!

When a Parallel soul is put into someone, do they still technically have separate souls (like Helios and Rea), or are they effectively partially merged? Would the two souls be able to talk to each other?

codalion: If you'll backread in the MQ&A thread, you'll discover that a lot of this has already been asked! Parallel souls start out a bit more separate, but merge over time until they merge wholly -- speed and difficulty varying from person to person.

Can chibi senshi upgrade to normal senshi as they get older? I know Chibis have yet to be introduced, really, but I wondered.

So I've been tossing this idea around a little bit with a few other people. All senshi have the built in desire to find the princess, how it effects them is different for each person, and it's possible some people might even be able to follow Black Lady if they chose to.

codalion: Characters can ultimately do whatever they like, but if they decided to do such a thing there's no guarantee that Black Lady would recognize them or that Wiseman would protect them -- in addition, it would place them at odds not only with the Negaverse but with every other good-guy faction, many of whom would be pretty happy to hunt down these turncoats and show them the meaning of being a turncoat. It's one of those cases where, no, we can't say your character cannot do that, but we can't say your character cannot jump off a building either. Building's right there for the jumping! Wouldn't recommend it.

What are the rulings on a character who knows they should be finding the princess deep down, but logically questions the whole 'lets listen to a bunch of cats and look for a dead princess.'

codalion: It's a free country! No one's under the power of some kind of magical princess-mind-control that forces them to do anything they wouldn't do. However, the fact is the majority of the Destiny City senshi aren't concerned with the Moon Princess -- they're concerned with saving their friends, family, and neighbors from murder and chaos. Dead princess or no dead princess, people are dying and it's pretty hard not to see that.

If this Senshi were say corrupted, would it essentially be increasing that slightly darker notion that looking for Serenity was a waste while instilling desires to listen to Beryl and Charonite?

codalion: That's definitely one way you could take senshi corruption! Tig had some better answers about corruption earlier in the thread, so I advise you look at those also.

Also in this sort of case along with improved corruption skills what exactly are other benefits of the new process besides the ability to henshien down.

Also I have this free question coupon so I will be waving the 5 dollar charges~

Do Parallels have a transformation sequence, both Senshi and cavaliers?

codalion: Senshi do, like any other senshi. Cavaliers don't, like any other cavaliers.

Also, do Cavaliers have a transformation sequence?

Prophet: Cavaliers, like the Negaverse, don't need to shout anything or go through a transformation sequence to power up. When they need it to happen, it just happens! Rather convenient.

If a negaverse member attempted to steal Black Lady's starseed while she was in her civilian form, what would probably happen?

codalion: She might get angry.

Nessy: Busting in here illegally to suggest that it probably tastes like sugar, and the rush would probably kill you. Or she would. It's a toss-up!

QUESTION!!

If all the mods were trapped on a desert island, with no food or water, who would be the first to croak?

And the last?

codalion: First, Shazari, I would kindly kill her and spare her the suffering of a slow death, my darling, my darling, my life and my bride. biggrin The other mods are crunchy and taste good with ketchup. biggrin biggrin biggrin

rosemilk: Codalion's blood is floral blood. Drinking of it will make me immortal, and I will wear Cuter's skin in the manner of a cloak.

Cuter: After convincing the rest of them that surely help is on the way, I would murder them all in their sleep and use their bodies and shoes for sustenance. Also, Rose's skull will become my Wilson and we'll hold deep theological discussions when we're not fighting the island monkeys for their coconuts. At some point I'll attempt to leave the island by strapping two sea turtles together and riding on their backs, but will inevitably drown in the process. The fate of Rose's skull is still undetermined.

Shazari: I feel pretty certain that the extraordinary stresses of the situation would finally be the impetus needed to awaken my latent mutant powers, dormant all these years. The main challenge would be perfecting my telekinetic powers to the level at which I can perform micro-processes to purify saltwater into freshwater ; telekinetically fishing would be much easier. At this point, I would accept my deserved place as savior and empress of the island, and the others would take their places as my grateful acolytes. Imp is probably the one most likely to try and lead an uprising against me, so I'd say the answer to your question is that Imp would probably be the first to die, but I'd like to remind you that I was driven to it. The other acolytes depend on me. I had no choice.

Prophet: Guys. Guys. This fly-covered pig skull on a pike and I aren't going down so easily : |a

codalion: This is a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

EDIT: I do not want to be stuck on a desert island with any of you. Any. of. you. neutral

Shazari: Now, that's just cruel. I would be good to you.

Is it possible to start a new school club? I know it's frowned upon to be "the best" or "the first" at things, and I assume this extends to calling people leaders/founders of clubs. But if it's highly unlikely that a particular club exists, is it possible to create it, or do we just assume that all clubs exist/if they don't, they won't?

If it is possible to start a new one, are there any requirements for it? I'm curious about IC and OOC requirements- does there need to be a plot thread? Sponsorship from a teacher? Sacrifices of holy bovines to the mods?

codalion: Just make it up! The only limits on school clubs are plausibility. People actually make up school clubs all the time, and found them too: the "no best/first" idea is meant to cover more major things, such as "my character is the best fighter, ever!!" or "my character is the smartest character, ever!!"

IC, requirements probably differ from school to school -- I can say at Meadowview that a registration form for administration approval is necessary, generally with sponsorship from a teacher. However, you can totally make that up/assume it happened already with an NPC teacher if you like, or alternately ask Mouse or I if Dr. Westerman or Mr. Gordon would sponsor your kid's club. (Unless the club is The Casual Sex and Beer Club, the answer is probably yes.)

If you're unsure, PM one of us or run it by in this thread.

Shazari: Dr. Westerman said no when Dylan asked him to sponsor the Casual Sex and Beer Club, back when Dylan was at Meadowview. sad

In the Parallel Faction thread, it says that staff have ideas for powers/weapons... does this still hold true? (It's just that I'm having trouble thinking up attacks for 'bounty'). ^^;
Thanks. C:

Shazari: It's still true.

How would the deaths of the past senshi be construed by the Japanese media? A suicide ring? A bizarre wave of urban murders? Or has Astraea covered up any information you might find if you went looking for them on the misty moors of the internet?

codalion: Honestly, there were so few of them that there probably isn't any info on them on the internet purely because national media is rarely concerned with the deaths and disappearances of nine or ten random people. Minako is the most likely to have gotten publicity, and that would've likely been put down for a heart attack, with no connection to sailor senshi.

When it comes to senshi attacks do all of the attacks (base, super, eternal) need to be based around being Offensive OR Defensive, no in between? (Aka no mixing. Like 2 are defensive and the last is offensive ). I'm hearing mixed results all around so I'm just looking for some official staff input.

rosemilk: My official staff input is this: you can have your power be offensive or defensive not minding what the last power was. This was how it went in the show, and this is what we'll be doing here (note how Mercury's attacks were a mix of offense and defense). I'd prefer your attack not be offensive AND defensive all at once because that's OP, but I can't see why you can't mix offensive and defensive attacks as you go up the tiers.

Shazari: I agree with Rose. <3

QUESTION!!

Super serious times!! -

What new Flavor of Mt. Dew are the staffers voting for?! the fate of the caffeinated world rests on your shoulders!!

codalion: Distortion. Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum dum.

Cuter: Typhoon all the way, baby.

Shazari: What madness is this?! I am a purist; I only drink the original (and still champion).

Also

Ness!!
If Black Lady's starseed tastes like Sugar, Why hasn't Scheelite found it yet?!? He is the human hummingbird-crack-gerbil!

Nessy: Boobs, I mean, she certainly isn't using them to get boyfriends! Would he really try to reach through those massive mounds to try and steal her star seed even if it is Pink Sugar? I think not! (Also, sorry Real Staff Members, but it had my name on this one!)

codalion: Baby girl, what did I tell you about coming in here without an adult?

Cuter: I want to know who let her out of her cage to begin with.

Okay, I just want to be as sure as one can be about this:

Is the sphere of Crosses allowed?
What powers would the staff suggest for this sphere? Any idea how one could approach it without clashing with ANY other spheres?

codalion: Sphere yea-or-naying is a pastime better suited to our stampers in the Application Quests subforum. I personally don't see anything wrong with that sphere, but I'd advise you, first, read all the info (in the shop thread, the MQ&A, and the info pages) and then do your best to come up with your own powers. I realize this is a lot to read, but it's a big shop with a lot of info to absorb. Doing so should save both yourself and the stampers a great deal of effort.

Thank you, Codalion. I'm working hard with Mouse and she's helping me a lot. The staff here is very competent, the best one I've seen so far in shops, seriously.

RANDOM QUESTION TIME because sometimes these things just occur to me.

In the case of cavalier swords (or I suppose even Nega weapons), are they able to block magical attacks? I don't mean like the kind that are diffuse (i.e. like Ares' smoke) but like if Sailor Flame, Senshi of Fireballs could launch fireballs at her enemies could the sword be used to block some of the attack or would it be in the cavalier's best interest to just dodge?

Shazari: They ARE magical weapons, but this really depends on your sword! No cav-sword could deflect an attack as fully/broadly as Nealite's mirror, but their innate durability does at least make them unusually resistant to magical attacks in minor ways. It's possible Nephrite's sword could SOMEWHAT have an unusual knack for this, given his tie to Lightning.

What constitutes a metacharacter in this shop?

Are Zodiacs, White Moon cavaliers, parallel senshi, and parallel cavaliers metacharacters?

Are canon characters like Helios, the Amazoness Quartet, Black Lady, and the Inner/Outer Court senshi metacharacters?

Are faction leaders like Charonite, Beryl, Wiseman, Nehelenia, Alexandros, and Astraealuna metacharacters, or NPCs?

rosemilk: Other managers, please correct me on anything I say that's wrong, but!

I think Shazari's and codalions' answers bear repeating here, snipped a little:

Quote:
Shazari: "Canon souls" is a bit misleading [...] There were a lot of characters in canon: it would pretty much suck if someone became ineligible for Serenity because, a year before that, they'd won Oranjiya in a contest and played him. (Oranjiya's from my beloved SuperS movie, for those of you not familiar.) You know? We look at a lot of different things when giving out metacharacters, and certainly one of the things we look at is trying to distribute things in a fair way, but there are quite a few factors we take into account.

codalion: [...] Oranjiya is not a Serenity is not a Chibimoon is not a Helios. I do hope you're not confusing 'canon character' with 'metaplot character.'

Metaplot character is not a canon character necessarily, though canons may be metaplot. A metaplot character is any character who affects the plot just by being there, and whose decisions affect other characters in whatever capacity that may be -- leader capacity, or simply because they by default affect the plot in some way, shape or form. How much they may affect the plot differs from meta to meta. Faction leader metacharacters are a thing apart. Often these bad boys are played by staff.

Black Lady is a canon character and a metaplot character. She is the future obsolete daughter of Sailor Moon and possesse/d/s an incarnation of the Silver Crystal. Other characters will regard her rightly as White Moon royalty. She has her own court (the Amazonesses), her own cavalier, etc, etc -- decisions she makes and actions she takes will have a big impact on the plot. She is a metacharacter.

Wiseman is also canon and metaplot; every single big-name villain will be, by necessity, a metacharacter. Wiseman's a Chaos Seed. He has his own faction. He'll direct that faction, interact with other Chaos Seeds, represents a massive threat for the rest of the 'good' playerbase. He is a metacharacter the same way Beryl is also canon and a metacharacter.

Princess Chronos is not canon but is a metacharacter. She is a Great Princess, has her own special crystal and leads her faction -- to that end Taurus and Aries are also arguably meta, though they've got less impact than Chronos who represents the Zodiac faction. Helios is a canon metacharacter; he controls Elysium. The Shitennou are metacharacters, but as coda said Oranjiya is not a Chibimoon is not a Helios. Kunzite as the leader of that faction is more overtly a metacharacter. The other cavaliers are not metacharacters. Cavaliers and Zodiacs are unique, definitely, but not metacharacters.

Amazons are metacharacters through this definition because they automatically will affect the plot coming in (Black Lady), but they won't affect the meta so much as, say, Wiseman! This also counts for the Eyes! Alexandros and Nehelenia are metacharacters. Parallels are metacharacters due to their role and need to lay down the law and have them played. I think that people are conflating canon, meta and unique here, and are getting "well how special is X!!!" over things. Faction leaders are not all NPCs: Charonite and Astraealuna are NPCs because you are automatically allowed to use them in your awakening ideas or plots without having to write it with me. This is not the same for Beryl, Wiseman, Kunzite, Chronos, Alexandros and Nehelenia.

Meta faction leaders, and metacharacters in general, represent hard work. You're given an outline of what you can do. Non-meta are free to do whatever they want while STILL being able to interact with the plot and shape it and not have to stick to any huge guiding rules.

Let me stop blathering and make a not-encompassing definition: a metacharacter is a character who HAS TO BE PLAYED FOR THE GOOD OF THE PLOT. Are all metacharacters created equal? No. You won't have as much demand on you playing, say, Cavalier Maris as you would playing Cavalier Zoisite, and you won't have as much demand on you playing Zoisite as Kunzite as Kunzite is a faction head.

...

Maybe it would be easier to differentiate between a must-be-played and a metacharacter (which would make Wiseman a metacharacter, someone who has mass input on the plot -- but make say Sailor Pisces a must-be-played but not a meta). Actually, utilizing that definition, let's see nonexhaustively who would count as a metacharacter:

- Wiseman
- Beryl
- Helios
- Charonite
- Black Lady
- Chronos
- Kunzite
- the Shitennou? (Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite)
- Inner senshi and Outer senshi
- Serenity
- Endymion
- Nehelenia
- Alexandros
- (keep in mind there are more metas not revealed yet)

And who would count as a mustplay:

- Non-Chronos Zodiacs, plus Zue
- Non-Shitennou cavaliers
- Parallel senshi and cavaliers, plus Zirconia
- Amazonesses
- Eyes

Free to play how you want, when you want:

- the rest of the White Moon incarnated senshi
- the Negaversers
- the 'normal' guardian cats
- corrupted senshi (these are uniques much like normal guardian cats are and tend to be regarded as mustplays -- but technically, we've opened them up to not be mustplays)
- civilians

So now your question would be, "Well, how many metas can I have?" Faction leaders will generally be played by staff. You can see some non-factions up there, as well as a faction leader not played by staff (Chronos). Which of these are open to you, Joe Blow on the street? The White Mooners, Endy and the Shitennou as of right now, though no White Mooners have shown up yet. In the end it boils down to, "How many Inner or Outer senshi can I have? Can I have one AND a Shitennou? Can I play both Endymion and Serenity and spend my days writing RP posts making out with myself?"

The answer is: you can only have one of the White Moon Canon Nine (or Serenity or Endymion). With the Shitennou I suggest we play this by ear. Zoisite and Jadeite aren't nearly as meta as Kunzite and his XO, Oranjiya is not Helios is not Chibimoon, so I wouldn't want to say -- "You have Jadeite! You're AUTOMATICALLY barred!". It's a slippery scale. But here's what I know: nobody will be playing more than one White Moon canon senshi.

You can spend your days writing RP posts making out with yourself though.

This really doesn't make the other characters less important or less fun. However, I won't get into that. I have already posted like a whole screed up here and my fingers are sore. I am sorry, other managers.

Final note: we do try to spread around the meta and the mustplay love as much as we can.

Cuter: I echo the lovely pink comment above my own; I think there's been a great deal of confusion over what constitutes a canon vs metaplot character, but hopefully the above has cleared up some of that confusion. I also think while having a special character is something fun and exciting, we shouldn't lose focus on those of the non meta or canon variety. The shop wouldn't be what it is without everyone's participation, whether it be with a senshi, Negaverse officer, or civilian. (Hey, I mean, what about the Princess and General-King stages? Those are pretty badass in their own right and a goal that all senshi and Negas can work towards!)

All shop plots are intended to affect the entire shop - we just use meta and canon characters to help guide the story along. Y'know. And spice things up. heart

Shazari: We've previously fielded a lot of questions around "who can have what character, and how many, and how is that different for staffers?" so I'm going to assume in this case none of those were your question, and stick to what you did ask. If you were trying to get at something else, please ask it!

"Canon character" obviously's pretty self-explanatory. For the most part, that'd be anyone you saw on-screen in the anime, or within the manga portions of the storyline (sorry, Sailors Gucci and Chanel, you're not invited to our party).

When I use the word "metacharacter" or words "metaplot character," in my case, what I'm referring to is this. "This character comes with some pre-defined place in the world of Name of the Moon which must be taken into account when playing them." Thus, for my money, ANY character who's a member of a closed faction, for example, is going to be a metacharacter (including, for example, all of the Makaiju aliens). Also fitting into that definition are any unenfranchised canon characters, as well as some types of civilian characters if we need them to play certain roles in the plot.

All of the characters you listed are metacharacters.

Some of them are also NPCs. "NPC" is a pretty dubious distinction -- or indistinction, as it were. There are a lot of NPCs -- any time there's a killable character, that's an NPC. The 'flashback' characters you've seen thus far can also be considered NPCs -- Queen Serenity, Princess Serenity, Endymion, Venus, Nephrite, Zoisite, Mercury, Mars, Pluto. Obviously although I powerplay Endymion, he's not actually my character; I don't seek out stories for him and he doesn't have any growth requirements. However, Charonite IS considered an NPC because he IS often powerplayed -- but this doesn't preclude Rose from playing him in stories for non-plot-driving reasons, or from developing him as a believable human being. It would be extremely limiting if playing an "NPC" meant that you weren't allowed to have any fun with them or do anything interesting, and I'm not sure what purpose that would serve except to prove some willingness to be heroically miserable. Dylan and Cora are both NPCs in In the Name of Love, because they were being powerplayed -- Coda and I didn't write any of that. For me, an NPC is a character that isn't "your character," but that you're powerplaying.

(P.S. I just pictured an alot made of question marks.)

codalion: I have nothing intelligent to say further on this topic. Everything Rose, Cuter and Shaz just said! This is what happens when I go to bed early.
