Aye, thank you Veldrin. I even updated it in Ulorbbath's announcement thread.

Also, because of fewer houses, only the top three houses are apart of the council in the rp.

ALSO ALSO-

I'm not sure if I'm going to have an academy similar to Arach-Tinilith, or if I'm going to have the houses individually school their priestesses...but I have decided for now...for sure...that I want a high priestess who holds public ceremonies, and is, in many ways, like the Mistress of Arach-Tinilith.

This seat is a place of honor, and this high priestess would be supported by the Rylinndar, it matters not from which house.

I just need an honorific.....

And...I think this would be a good way to get the pot stirring...

The old high priestess was murdered/whatever...and now...a new one must vie for the spot.............. twisted

Details of this female's death and so on are appreciated...k thx

The honorific, again in drow, for an Arch-Priestess of Lolth for a given city or enclave is "Ulathtallar"

As you probably already know then, the designations are as follows:

Ulathtallar = Arch Priestess (typically only one per city)
Yathtallar = High Priestess (usually at least one per house and often several which usually includes the matrons of houses though not always)
Yathrin = Middle rank priestess who has not yet passed the higher "Tests of Lolth"
Yath'wanre = Temple Servant, Priestess-Trainee
Yath = of or pertaining to the temple of Lolth (so various titles and honorifics could be built using this root word).

These suggestions are derived from the drow language which was developed by Ed Greenwood and R.A. Salvatore and published in the 1991 "Drow of the Underdark" and then updated with grammatical rules and structure by "The Temple of Lolth" on AOL's Neverwinter Nights game server in 1996.

Do you possibly have a link to The Temple of Lolth (or could you re-post it here if one no longer exists)?
This would be useful information for everyone to have...

The original ToL dissappeared when Neverwinter Nights was canned by AOL in 1997-98 as I recall. Their material was copied and preserved by several websites after, and in many cases modified or typo'd so it is difficult to find "perfect" renderings of it, but there are still some out there.

Here: http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/byzantium/55/drowdic.htm is a faithful copy of the original document.

Keep in mind, that even the members of ToL were not perfect and so typo'd some of their own work.

An example I found became standardized in use because people who used it were not discerning.... "malla" (rather than 'mallaus') was used to denote "honored" however, that is incorrect as past tense verbs add a "us" suffix. Stuff like this is easily sorted out and spotted once you learn the grammatical rules though and the work still stands up as completely worthy IMO.

Since this seems to be the appropriate thread to ask about founding a merchant house in Ulorbbath... What would a merchant house be called in drow, since to my knowledge Qu'ellar is reserved for the houses ruled by matron mothers. And as an additive measure this serves as me asking if I can create a merchant house that lies on the outskirts of Ulorbbath... please?

By outskirts, do you mean within the city?

I had called the Violet Mushroom Clan (which was a merchant clan as opposed to noble house) simply by it's english name.

Just pick a name for the clan and then translate it appropriately to drow. The first merchant clans were named after colors and items which was the basic concept I went with for naming Violet Mushroom.

To identify a merchant house itself though... a non-noble house = "el'lar" and wealth = "belaern" as i recall... so "el'lar d'belaern" would be "house of wealth." Not perfect, but gets the idea across. Probably more efficient ways to convey the concept, but would take some research. Also, note that "D'Aerthe" simply means "of profession" or simply "professional" (as in service oriented).

That makes me curious, Drae, are you going to be bringing back the Violet Mushroom Clan?

Honestly, I don't think I will be able to right now. I am hoping to make myself useful as an OOC resource though.

I remember a while back the idea of NPC controllers and dungeon masters was brought up (for questing or some such). I might be a candidate for something along those lines.

Yes, this merchant house would be within the city but on the very edges so as to not draw any attention to itself from any houses that might wish it ill. Ah, thank you Draevir that is helpful. I assume that since no one seems to object to the idea that the merchant house is allowed then?

And can anyone recommend a decent drow translator, the one I normally rely on (House Maerdyn) has been reported as an attack site, which apparently leads Firefox to garble the results I get when I push past their irritating warning page. I have found the Chosen of Eilistraee translator site but I'm not quite sure that it is accurate.

You have my permission, Chemosh.

The Eilistraee translator is pretty good, actually.

Thank you very much Quenthal, I will take your word for it on the translator.

Just a few extra things that I would like to know. Do I need a symbol and/or insignia for my house? Would it make sense that a worshiper of Selvetarm would find residence in a house where the leader is a follower of Lolth? Does it matter that my house is ruled by a male (ilharn Eilov Rukanyyr)? And is ilharn the proper title for a male leading a non-noble house?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I want to make sure I get this right the first time through.
