I took Zantac 75 for a long time but my mom stopped buying it.. ._.;; How much is it, and is it over the counter or via doctor?

@ Miss P - Oh, the ironic thing is he quit a couple of years ago. And right after he quit was when they found the first tumor. He has really bad luck. o.o
But really, from what the doctors say bladder cancer really isn't that dangerous, unless it's just completely untreated. He has the kind that occurs in the inner lining, and that kind usually doesn't metastasize through the outer wall of the bladder because that's a different type of tissue. So basically, if you have to get cancer, this is the type you want. It's very easily treated though it does recur frequently.
...It's interesting! I do feel kind of horrible that I look at my family's health problems as learning opportunities, though. *plans to go to medical school one day*
@ Rayne - I think I got mine at Target for about $25 for a set of 42. That gives you three treatments and you're not supposed to take them closer together than a couple of months anyway, so it's not that bad a deal. It's over the counter. ^.^

It works a little differently from Zantac or others because it doesn't reduce the amount of acid currently in your stomach, but it reduces how much acid your stomach pumps out. The idea is that your stomach gets used to producing less after two weeks on the pills so you can go off of it, and then take it later on if your stomach re-adjusts to producing more acid again. ^.^

OH he quit! Phew!
I'm just worried because I know someone who have has something similar (bowel cancer) and it's not been a fun experience.
At least your dad has the best cancer! XD
No I get fascinated by the workings as well. Med school friends are really fun to talk to.

Ahh, but does it actually stop the heartburn and other issues from coming up, or does it happen (once and a while) and you still need to take something to help on the side? With Zantac, it deals with the problems right then and there, sort of like the quick Rolaids, but instead of lasting 10 minutes ( xp ) it lasts 24 hours or more, depending on said person.

I tried eating healthy by adding more fruits and veggies in my diet (which I love) but that gets VERY expensive after a while and eventually... it's just cheaper to stop buying the chips and get the vitamins. xp

...I actually took a while deciding what I wanted to do. I changed my major just about every time I took a really fun class because I always did well in them. I'm going to have to go back at the undergrad level to pick up some additional classes before I can even go to med school, though, so I'm thinking it's going to be a way off yet.
@ Rayne - It's actually stopped stuff from coming up for me. I did my last Prilosec bit in... October, I think?... and I think I've only had heartburn once since then that I can remember. I used to have it almost every day. You can still take Zantac though. I keep a stash of the generic version (ranitidine is so much cheaper without a label attached) just in case.
