I daresay I'll have te trust ye on that. *Maggie replies, smiling despite her confusion. She steps a little further into the room toward the ping-pong table, it being closest to her* But . . . if ye dinna mind me asking . . . what are all these things in here for?

*She's asking for a lot with that question.*
*Luke grabs the next slice.* Uh, which one do you wanna know about first?

Ehm . .. *Maggie smiles sheepishly* Well I really haven't the first clue about any o'it. So . .. I suppose I may as well start by asking about this . .. table . . . thing. 'Tisn't for eating, is it? Not with that net 'cross the middle.

*Luke's headache is grateful. Maggie probably chose the easiest thing to explain. He motions for her to come over to the table.*
THIS is a ping-pong table.

Right on.
*He hands her a paddle.* This is a paddle.
*He takes one and gets out a ping-pong ball.* THIS is a ping pong ball.
*grin* Observe.
*Luke bounces the ball and taps it over the net to Maggie's side.*

*Maggie looks up from inspecting the paddle as the ball bounces over. She looks baffled for a brief second, and then it clicks* Oh! *she swings the paddle, but too late, misses, and has to scoop the ball up with her hand instead* I was supposed te hit it, wasn't I? Like baseball, a bit?

Yeah. You got it. Well, I mean ... It's sort of like baseball. Except there's no bases, you don't have a bat. And there aren't $5 beers or terrible umpires.
*Luke momentarily realizes something. He could really ******** with Maggie's mind. He could make up all kinds of rules about ping pong - or hell, about anything in his time period. 'We play ping pong to decide who becomes president of the American government. It takes awhile. That's how Forrest Gump became the 42nd president of the United States of America. So if you love your kids, you'll teach them kids to play really well from a young age. The future of our nation depends on it.'*
*But Maggie's not a pledge. And Luke's not especially feeling like an b*****d.*
*Luke chuckles to himself.*

*Maggie nods* Alright then. *she looks at the ball, wondering if she should hit or just hand it back to him* Ehm, are ye . . . pitching, then?

*Luke laughs. Pitching...* Yeah, throw it back to me.
(And the answer to the long, labored debate is... Yes, Luke IS the pitcher (or there would be no ball game.))
*Maggie tosses him the ball back, and Luke serves.*
*He blinks. Then it hits him.*
Wait. How do you know about baseball?

*Maggie manages to hit the ball this time . . . but straight into the net* Oh dear. *She looks up again at Luke's question* Oh, Bard had wanted te show Will a game from his time, so he taught us how te play it when last he came back with me te see him.

*Maggie laughs a bit at Luke's response* 'Twas really rather fun, I thought. *and this time she manages to hit the ball over the net, albeit off toward one side* Oh, there, was that better, then?
